Page 1

This is a Sicilian legend. Colapesce was the son of a fisherman of Punta, near Messina. He loved the sea and spent most of his time swimming into the sea. Cursed by his mum for his behavior, he was transformed into a fish. Colapesce became a good adviser for the sailors.

One day , Frederick II, king of Sicily, heard about Colapesce and wanted to meet him. He threw a gold cup into the sea and Colapesce found it.

The king again threw his crown into the sea and after two days and two nights Colapesce found it.

Again, the king threw a ring into the sea and then asked Colapesce to bring it back. The ring came up, but Colapesce never went back.

Colapesce had discovered that one of the three columns that supported Sicily was damaged. So he decided to sacrifice his life and support Sicily as the third column.
