I
consider myself to be a fairly easy-going person. Overall, I have a life that is less stressful than many people I know, I have a loving partner, slightly more than a handful of friends I adore, a great, supportive family, and I am grateful. I am not yet disciplined enough to write down the things I’m grateful for every day, like “they” say you “should” do, but I am thoughtfully and intentionally grateful every day. Most recently, I’ve been tested on my intentional gratitude—I very unexpectedly lost a close friend. He was young, healthy, vibrant, kind, and the type of person anyone would be proud to call a friend. Since then, I haven’t felt very grateful. I have been angry, even furious to be expected to continue my life as before, but now without my very good friend. After some real thought, I came to realize that the reality is that he was a blessing and a gift to me. A gift I am grateful for. For however long, I was blessed to learn from him, to laugh with him, to share wonderful moments with him. I feel peace when I think about every grateful moment we shared together. I have not been not robbed of anything. I was gifted both time and part of a journey with a wonderful man. It’s important we realize that each person that comes into our life brings a gift and a blessing. Gratitude has the power to help us rise above loss. Gratitude is life affirming and provide hope. Perhaps most importantly, it can help us let go of the past and focus on the abundance that surrounds us now, and be grateful for the day.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month
T

his month we are eager to share our endorsement of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM); to educate people about disability employment issues, and to celebrate the many and diverse contributions made by those with disabilities. We would like to honor two disabled individuals and one able bodied young man who have made and are making powerful contributions to better the lives of disabled persons throughout the world.
Abraham Nemeth (October 16, 1918 – October 2, 2013)
Abraham Nemeth, mathematician and inventor, was born in Manhattan to a large family of Jewish immigrants. Abraham was congenitally blind from a combination of macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. Abraham went to a public school –despite being fully blind– and later received a master’s degree in psychology from Columbia University. Abraham was most known for developing a system for the blind to read and write mathematics. Called Nemeth Code, it was designed for Mathematics and Science Notation. In addition, he created MathSpeak, which is a standard system of reading mathematical formulas aloud. Not only did Abraham overcome the challenges of his disability, he also made a monumental impact on the lives of many blind people, whether they are aspiring mathematicians or not!
Paul Longmore
(July 10, 1946 – August 9, 2010)
Paul Longmore was a professor of history, author, and a noted disability activist who taught at San Francisco State University. Paul was also the leading historian in disability publishing and wrote about disability history prior to disability studies becoming a popular subject on college campuses. At the young age of seven years old, he contracted polio and lost the use of his hands. Paul required breathing assistance from a ventilator at night and for part of the day, which was paid for by federal funding. However, federal law had a restriction on how much money a person with a disability can earn and still receive assistance. Ultimately, the Social Security Administration released what is now called the Longmore Amendment, which has changed the rules on how the disabled receive

We would also like to profile Alexander Knoll who, though able bodied, is making great efforts to improve the lives of the disabled via his app, “Ability App.” Alexander, who is 12 years old, has created an app that will “help people with disabilities and their caregivers navigate public spaces and find safe, reliable services and employment opportunities.” Alex has been a guest on shows such as Ellen and the T.D. Jakes show, has received numerous awards, and has been featured in many national and international publications. Alex is still developing his app. On his GoFundMe page (https://www. gofundme.com/abilityapp) he explains that he was inspired when he saw an older gentleman in a wheelchair trying to open a heavy door unsuccessfully. Alex wrote, “As the man struggled to get through the door, I wondered if there was an app that could have told him, before he left his house, about the features available at this and other stores around the area.” The app is expected to have tons of disability friendly features and currently Alex is over a quarter of the way to reaching his $25k goal. Go Alex! Whether disabled or able bodied, we can see from these profiles, that we can all contribute to making our local and national community a more diverse, welcoming, and inclusive place. At a recent NDEAM ribbon cutting ceremony at the Omni Center in Council Bluffs, IA, Sam Comfort stated, “We all have things we can contribute.” Sam, who is the Work Experience Coordinator at Goodwill Industries continued, “We try to focus on the ability, not the disability.” We all need to focus on the ability—as Alex has with his app, as Paul and Abraham have through their work and the life changing contributions they’ve made. Everyone can make a difference. With the right perspective we can encourage future generations to be understanding, courageous, and inventive—contributing to our communities and promoting inclusion. DISABILITY STATISTICS Provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics
In 2015, there were about 5.2 million people with disabilities employed in the United States. While the largest share of employed people with disabilities worked in management, professional, and related occupations (31.3 percent), this was smaller than the share of people with no disabilities employed in these same occupations (39.2 percent). Employed people with disabilities were more heavily concentrated in service occupations and in production, transportation, and material moving occupations than their counterparts with no disabilities. The proportion of people with a disability in 2013 who did not graduate from high school, about 22 percent, was more than twice that of people without a disability. In 2013, labor force participation rates were higher among people with greater educational attainment regardless of disability status. People with a disability had lower labor force participation rates at all levels of educational attainment than did people with no disability. • People with disabilities were about 3 times more likely than those without a disability to be age 65 and over. • For all age groups, the employment—population ratio was much lower for people with a disability than for those without a disability. • Unemployment rates were higher for people with a disability than for those without a disability among all educational attainment groups. • 32 percent of workers with a disability were employed part time, compared with 18 percent of workers without a disability. • Workers with a disability were more likely to be self-employed than those with no disability.

4 Simple Ways to Conquer Your To-Do List
D
id you know that in an average week, 75 percent of Americans skip doing something for themselves because they didn’t adequately plan or allow enough time for it? Does looking at your to-do list feel so daunting that it discourages you from making any progress at all? You’re not alone. A new Postit Brand productivity study found that more than 1 in 4 Americans feel completing everything in their weekly to-do list is harder than running a marathon. Juggling multiple tasks at one time, along with a never-ending to-do list, is a common challenge for everyone - even those at the top of their game. Two professionals in the culinary and fitness industries share some of their tips to help you take control of your to-do list and increase your productivity.
The ‘Write’ Way
You’re 42 percent more likely to get something done if you write it down, according to research from the Dominican University of California. Creating a to-do list is an efficient way to visualize and prioritize your tasks, both shortterm and long-term. Celebrity chef Russell Jackson is always looking for ways to be more productive and stay inspired. “Writing items down helps me feel that I’ve taken the first step in conquering the task,” he says. “I like to think of lists as a roadmap to help me visualize what I need to achieve.” Post-it Super Sticky Notes, 4 inches x 6 inches, are a perfect tool for jotting down tasks, goals and to-dos, and when paired with flags and tabs, it’s easy to keep important information at your fingertips, stay organized and take your to-do list wherever you go!
Break it Down
Too often people attempt to improve their productivity by tackling large projects in a single session. The results may be disappointing and, in many cases, the project is left unfinished. Instead of getting bogged down in the entire scope
of a project, take time to break down to-dos into digestible actions, and goals into specific, manageable categories and tasks. This allows you to focus on handling each of these smaller objectives so you can transition some goals from to-do to done.
Toss Your Tech
“Technology isn’t always the answer to checking things off your to-do list,” says Jackson, adding that even a tech lover such as himself needs a tactile method to spark creativity. Without a screen limiting you to seeing only the small tasks at hand, take advantage of a large surface and use Easel Pads to move big ideas around so you can see everything you are trying to accomplish. Seeing how fluid tasks can be can relieve some stress.
BUILD A BETTER PHILADELPHIA

Clear your Mind
If you find your current strategy isn’t working, don’t be afraid to switch it up. Go for a walk or clear your head by taking 15 minutes to do something you enjoy. For worldrenowned fitness artist and celebrity trainer Nicole Winhoffer, even a 10-minute jog can help bring fresh ideas. She uses Post-it List Notes to write down her post-workout inspirational thoughts. “When you come back to your task after that quick sweat session, write down the first things that come to mind - those can spark ideas that you might never have thought of.” Post-it Brand created a quiz to help you learn more about your listmaking style and to find solutions and tools to help you be productive, tackle your to-do lists and achieve your goals. The Job Boom in Big Data by Eva Kurilova
What sorts of jobs are associated with big data?
ig data is booming and along with it the need for skilled professionals. It is forecasted that by 2015 big data will have created 2 million jobs in the U.S. alone and 4.4 million jobs worldwide. With these enticing prospects, now is a great time to learn what big data is and what a big data scientist does.
Big data is essentially an inflated version of what is known as business intelligence. Business intelligence is the attempt to sift through available data and identify ways of increasing profit, and so it can be found in just about every type of for-profit company. Big data jobs are therefore available in many diverse areas. Some good examples of up-and-coming big data opportunities are in financial firms, customer service, consulting firms, e-learning businesses, defense contractors, and even online dating sites.
What is big data?
Big data refers to the staggering amount of data that is produced by humanity on a daily basis. Data collection and analysis has been around for a very long time, but the large amount of data currently being created goes beyond the processing power of traditional collection and analytical methods. To put this in perspective, think about that fact that in just the last two years we have created 90% of all the data that currently exists today. Where does all of this data come from? A lot of it comes from the things that you do every single day, such as the purchases you make, the websites you visit, the pictures you send and receive, the GPS signal on your phone, and all of your activity on social media sites.
Big data refers to the staggering amount of data that is produced by humanity on a daily basis.
requires a combination of both analytical and creative skills that aren’t usually taught side-byside in either business or statistical programs. The specific skillset needed by anyone working in big data is also largely going to depend on the field they work in and company they work for. They must be able to understand the company, the clients, and the business model. Why is there such a job boom? Because the sheer volume of big data is so It is fairly new to demand all of these skills and new, it is something that not too many experts attributes from one person, and so there are not have ever seen or dealt with in the past. Big data enough people yet to fill in the available jobs.
How can you get into big data?
In a response to the coming job boom universities are beginning to offer more courses and even entire programs geared towards big data. The foundation of a big data education is in statistics, as a big data scientist needs to be able to organize large amounts of information. Students are often taught how to use the latest data technology and important programs such as Python and Hadoop. However, students are also trained in the business and economic side of things. They are encouraged to grow, keep learning, and stay on top of new technology and data collection methods. Article provided by Constant-Content.com

How to Become A Software Developer
Page 7
by Justin Vict
Technology increases exponentially, making software developers an in-demand career. In fact, the demand is calculated to increase by 32 percent by 2018. Below are a few ways to become hired as a software developer. Without A Degree
Unlike most other white collar professions, the software industry doesn’t require formal educational accreditation or degrees and certificates. However, you still need to have the same level of competency in coding in the various popular programming languages as those with college degrees. How can you separate yourself from applicants with degrees? Employers would rather hire an enthusiastic candidate over an overqualified one. Show your enthusiasm by showcasing projects you’ve completed at your leisure. Showing your potential employer that you like to code on a professional level in your spare time will score you points. If you’re unfortunate enough not to get the jobs you’ve applied for, you can still earn a sizable income doing freelance work. The nature of software engineering allows you to create programs and market them on Google Play and other sites.
Mathematics, for example. With a degree in Math you can use statistics and historical data to make demand forecasts concerning future user software needs. You might even get away with becoming a software developer with a B.A. in English. With this degree, you can craft dialogue and stories for video games. A graphic arts degree can land you a software developer position in the video gaming industry as well. You’d be designing characters and other visual aspects of the software. #3. Mobile Development Skills
Being mobile friendly is essential for modern businesses, and workers who know their way around smartphones and tablets are in increasingly high demand. Whether you are seeking work as a freelance web developer or looking for opportunities in the corporate world, brushing up on your mobile skills is a smart move. Be sure to stress your skills with mobile devices when crafting your resume. Employers are increasingly looking for mobile-savvy employees, both in the IT suite and throughout the organization.
#4. Strong Troubleshooting Abilities
The ability to keep your cool and think logically when things are collapsing all around you is a critical skill in life, and at the office. Strong troubleshooting skills are highly sought after in the modern office, and those troubleshooting abilities extend far beyond the IT field. If you have a logical mind and the ability to stay calm and keep going, those skills could help you land a great job or move forward in your career. No matter how large and overwhelming the problem might appear, breaking it down into smaller and more manageable chunks is a great way to effectively troubleshoot the issue.
#5. Spreadsheet Savvy
It does not matter whether you are looking for a job in finance or just trying to break into the corporate world - being great with numbers could put you head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. Knowing your way around a spreadsheet has never been more important, so fire up your copy of Microsoft Excel and start learning. If you do not have your own copy of Microsoft Office, you can always use free alternatives like Open Office. The Open Office spreadsheet is very similar to Excel, so most of the skills you learn will transfer well. The job market is highly competitive even in the best of times, and when the economy takes a downturn the fight for jobs gets even more intense. No matter where you are in your career or what kind of background you come from, brushing up on the five tech skills listed above can help you get the job you want and need. Every organization needs structure and rules to prevent chaos and eventual breakdown. This is especially true in the military, which is why individuals in the service are trained to follow specific rules in their work environment. Policies and procedures ensure safety, stability, and productivity. Veterans have an understanding of the value of accountability, and perform their work from this unique perspective. They have learned to demonstrate loyalty to their leaders and units.

Veterans are given government-paid relocation when leaving active duty. The exact amount of this assistance varies by individual, but it can still help lower your company’s expenses when hiring. With relocation assistance paid, your employee search doesn’t need to be limited to the local prospects; you can seek talent anywhere you like.
14. Tax Breaks
One of the biggest benefits of hiring veterans is the number of tax credits available to employers. Tax credits run between $1500 to $8000.00 per veteran hire, and are counted as a one-for-one dollar credit against the employer’s payable income taxes.
15. Background and Security Clearance
Hire a vet, and you can gain greater peace of mind knowing you’ve employed a safe, drug-free individual. Over 90 percent of military members have had extensive background checks run for various security clearance levels. Hiring a veteran reduces the chance your company will be put at risk due to illegal behavior. If security clearance is a requirement of your company, a veteran can be transferred in status. This will save you a good deal in background investigation costs. If you’re seeking employees to fill some vacancies at your company, consider hiring a veteran. Vets bring a unique skill and mindset to your organization. They offer a level of skill, professionalism, and work ethic that is rare in today’s workforce. When you hire someone who has been employed in the military, you can be sure you’re working with someone who has a desire to do the best job possible. Hiring veterans is an economical solution that will strengthen your work team and give you a clear edge on your competition. Article provided by Constant-Content.com

The Role of a Peer Support Specialist
B
Page 13
by Allen Chen
aren Berg was leading a group therapy session when a veteran of the Vietnam conflict discussed, for the first time, trauma that he’d experienced decades earlier. “The only reason he opened up was because of my presence,” says Baren, a Marine combat veteran in recovery from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) himself. “He trusted me.” Trust gained through similar experiences is at the core of Baren’s work as a peer support specialist. He helps fellow veterans transition from the battlefield back into society. Living with PTSD means that Baren can relate to his peers, like the Vietnam veteran, as they overcome their own challenges.
What peer support specialists do
Peer support specialists are mental health workers who have had experience with a psychiatric disorder—such as PTSD, depression, or addiction—and have been trained to counsel or assist others with that condition. Familiar with the disorder themselves, these specialists act as role models for clients facing similar difficulties. On clients’ first visit, a peer support specialist talks to them to assess their needs: what they struggle with and what they want to accomplish. The specialist then uses that information to help his or her clients set goals. These goals may include finding stable housing or becoming more independent in daily activities. Next, the peer support specialist schedules sessions to discuss strategies for achieving those goals. These strategies form a support plan, which varies with the client and may include group counseling, employment assistance, or peer-to-peer mentoring. “If they’re agoraphobic, you help them go out into society,” says Baren. “If they have health problems, you accompany them to their doctor.” Peer support specialists offer encouragement throughout clients’ recovery. How long specialists work with each client depends on a number of variables, such as how complex the client’s challenges are and the rate of progress toward reaching his or her goals. Baren says that he typically works with a client for at least 8 weeks. Specialists may have a caseload of 10 to 20 clients at a time, as participants in either group or one-on-one sessions.

helps specialists build a rapport with clients. Through their own recovery, specialists who have managed the disorder become a role model for their clients. Although being empathic is essential, it has limits. “You’re reliving traumatic experiences with your clients, and it’s important to know the boundaries,” says Baren. “Otherwise, you can become emotionally drained.”

There are no specific requirements for becoming a peer support specialist. But these workers typically need at least a high school diploma or its equivalent, a history of a mental health disorder that they are comfortable discussing, and certification from a peer support specialist program that includes experiential training. Certification is available through state agencies and support organizations, such as those focusing on mental health or recovery from addiction. Credential requirements vary but may include having paid or volunteer experience in peer support services, completing an approved training program, and receiving a passing score on a written exam. Baren has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in organizational leadership, and certification as a peer support specialist. While working for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Baren noticed a gap between the VA and peer support communities. He put his education to work by starting a business that provides counseling services to veterans. “As a peer support specialist,” he says, “you are able to use your disability as a source of strength.”

Peer support specialists may work part time. They may travel to serve their clients at primary care offices, emergency rooms, inpatient facilities, and recovery centers, or they may communicate with clients over the phone or online. And they may be part of a support team of counselors that also includes psychologists and social workers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics does not collect data specifically on peer support specialists. Instead, it counts them among community health workers, of which 51,900 were employed in May 2016. The median annual wage for these workers was $37,330 in May 2016, about the same as the median annual wage of $37,040 for all workers. As a peer support specialist, Baren feels gratified about improving the lives of others. “Being a positive influence in the world is very meaningful,” he says. “It’s not about the life you live; it’s about the legacy you leave behind.” Allen Chen is an economist in the Office of Occupational Statistics and Employment Projections, BLS. Same-day surgeries are scheduled Monday through Friday and do not include weekends or holidays. A day surgery nurse will most likely be required to have some degree of previous OR experience, as monitoring the vital signs and respiratory function of recovering patients is a large part of the job. As well, day surgery nurses regularly provide patient education as they are discharged the same day that they arrive. Nursing is a fantastic career that offers such a variety of workplace settings that a lifelong career as a nurse is possible. Changing workplace environments can be a daunting thought, however, if one is at a point in their career where 12-hour shifts are no longer right for them, then consider a career change within the field rather than outside of nursing. Skills Needed for A Manufacturing Career
M
anufacturing has opportunities for workers with a range of backgrounds. Some qualities and skills are often required. Workers also need a combination of education and training, which varies by occupation. For example, electrical and electronic equipment assemblers typically need a high school diploma or the equivalent plus on-the-job training of 1 month or less. Jobs that require the least preparation have been affected most by technological changes in manufacturing. “Through the 2000s, most of the unskilled jobs got taken out of existence, because manufacturers could program machines to do those things,” says Carrick. “But people need to maintain or fix the machines. So manufacturers need fewer workers, but the workers they do need require higher level skills.” Preparing for a manufacturing career also may include getting experience, earning licenses or certifications, and networking.
Qualities and Skills
Manufacturing workers need to be able to cooperate as part of a team. They also need to be detail oriented, dependable, and adept at problem solving. Dexterity and mechanical or technical ability are important, too. Manufacturing employers look for workers who are reliable and willing to take on multiple tasks. For many entry-level positions, requirements are even more basic. “It’s the simple stuff,” says Tulkoff, “like having the right attitude and being consistent about things like showing up for work on time.” A willingness to learn and to be flexible about job tasks is also important. “Manufacturers are looking for people who take an interest in learning computer operation, quality control, and how to operate computer-based machinery,” says Sweeney. “Jobs today are not always ‘I do this every day.’ A lot of workers are expected to do different things in the plant.” Workers may need some skills—such as basic math and computer aptitude—before starting in manufacturing. But they learn other skills in school or on the job.
Education
Manufacturing occupations are available for people at all education levels, from less than a high school diploma to a college degree.
Manufacturing Extra Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts at KSC, Inc. Mail Code DNPS Kennedy Space Center, FL 32899
Taking technical courses in high school is often a good way to start preparing for a career in manufacturing. “My high school tech classes really inspired me,”
says O’Gorman. “When I went to apply for my first manufacturing job, I brought in all of the projects I had worked on in class. I could showcase some of the technical skills I had learned, and I think that helped me to get the job.” You also may consider earning a certificate or a degree from a community college or technical school. But keep in mind that employers may focus less on your credentials and more on what you can do. “In some cases, a degree or certificate is helpful, but in others employers are looking more for applied skills,” says Sweeney. “Get in the workforce and learn what an employer is looking for.” Career options in manufacturing span a range of education levels--from less than a high school diploma to a doctoral degree. BLS designates occupations as typically requiring one of several levels of education for entry. Specific occupational requirements may vary, even from one job or employer to another. The BLS designation is for what is most typical according to qualitative and quantitative research.
Experience and more
To qualify for an entry-level position in some occupations, you may need either work experience in a related occupation, a professional credential, or both. In other occupations, experience is useful even if it isn’t required. And networking is helpful for getting a foot in the factory door. BLS designates whether occupations typically require work experience in a related occupation. For example, industrial production managers typically need 5 or more years of work experience in a related supervisory occupation. Regardless of whether it is required, however, having manufacturing experience is often helpful before entering these occupations. Summer or part-time jobs and internships are ways to discover what you like about working in manufacturing—or whether it’s for you. Article provided by Career Outlook, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

college degree lets employers know that you’ve learned skills in a specific field. And with a degree in liberal arts, the skills you’ve honed include those that employers want in their workers. According to studies from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers often rank skills such as critical thinking and communication—hallmarks of liberal arts training—above technical aptitude as essential for career readiness. “Liberal arts study helps students develop strong foundational competencies,” says Paul Timmins, director of career services for the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. “It gives them tools to succeed beyond their first job.” Robert Vega, director of liberal arts career services at the University of Texas at Austin, agrees. “Regardless of the industry, we need people who can solve problems, write well, speak well, bring multiple perspectives to decision-making; we need people who are good managers, who are cross-culturally competent,” he says. “All of that is liberal arts.” Keep reading to learn more about liberal arts fields and how majoring in these subjects can help you in the job market. We also highlight data from the U.S. Census Bureau to show employment and wages of workers with bachelor’s degrees in some liberal arts fields.
What are the “liberal arts”?
Definitions of liberal arts vary. Some limit the designation to literature and the arts. But others, including liberal arts colleges, expand the definition to encompass the social and natural sciences as well. In the broadest sense, a liberal arts education is an approach to learning that involves diverse coursework so students develop a range of knowledge. Generally speaking, it’s designed to prepare students for a variety of career options, rather than for a specific occupation. Subject areas. Liberal arts majors are often organized by subject, such as social sciences. Within the subjects, students may focus on a particular discipline, such as geography. But some schools offer a major in liberal arts or liberal studies, which provides an overview of many subjects instead of a single one.

Whether majors are identified as liberal arts may vary by academic institution. For example, some universities house the mathematics department in the college of liberal arts and sciences; others may offer math through the college of engineering. Interest in a career. Your personal interests may relate to career options in ways that aren’t immediately apparent. If you enjoy self-expression, for example, majoring in theater studies could help you develop the speaking ability and creativity that are important in public relations. Other interests relate more directly to occupations. If you like researching topics and writing papers, for example, you might decide to major in English with a goal of working as a writer.

“Liberal arts study helps students develop strong foundational competencies...It gives them tools to succeed beyond their first job.” Descriptions of each field are adapted from National Center for Education Statistics Classification of Instructional Programs information. Preparing for a career
As the data show, liberal arts graduates enter a range of career fields. And that’s because, some experts say, the skills they develop are applicable to nearly any job. But students who major in liberal arts may increase their career options by getting additional education—and by taking steps while still in school to prepare for the labor force. Core skills. As a liberal arts student, you’ll typically take courses that involve research, analysis, and writing and that span several subject areas. In these courses, you develop both core skills and a range of knowledge that can serve you throughout your work life. “The basis of liberal arts education is a broad, multidisciplinary foundation,” says Vega. “Liberal arts majors are able to look at questions from many different perspectives and create unique approaches to answering them. We’re graduating thinkers who will solve problems of the future that we don’t even know are problems today.” Liberal arts courses that integrate technical instruction may help you gain technical competence. “The liberal

A good way to gain workplace skills is through experiential learning. Some colleges and universities offer programs or encourage internships to help students get a glimpse of careers, gauge work preferences, and boost confidence. “You have to get out there and build those skills that may lead to a career,” says Timmins. “Sometimes, you may realize from an experience that it’s not what you want to do, and that’s fine. You’ve learned something really important.” With the right attitude and preparation, say experts, your liberal arts degree can take you in as many directions as your career goals allow. “When people ask, ‘What are you going to do with that liberal arts degree?’ the answer is: ‘Whatever I want,’” says Pasquerella. “It’s your capacity to see how the skills you acquired can be transferred that’s important.”
For More Information
The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) has additional information about occupations that relate to liberal arts. This resource describes hundreds of occupations, including their job duties, typical education and training requirements, pay, and job prospects. In addition, to help you look for jobs with occupational titles that are relevant to your major, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the National Center for Education Statistics link hundreds of instructional programs, including liberal arts majors, to standard occupational titles.
