What brings us together will always be more powerful than what keeps us apart.

As the 2024 election is just days away, I thought I'd take this opportunity to share some thoughts I have about the current political climate that I have witnessed in my day to day life.

I live in central Arizona, north of Phoenix a couple of hours, where I can find at least one democrat and one republican in any group of five. I directly work with many small businesses in my community and in non-election years, which side of the aisle you support rarely comes up. But in the past few months I have had multiple conversations about how things might change depending on who becomes the next president.

I'm grateful to be able to have open conversations with people who have different views than mine. That's how we learn. It's how we are able to stretch our minds and see beyond our own perspectives.

And although some extreme viewpoints were brought up in those conversations, I believe regardless of who becomes the next president, we will survive the next four years. Remember what brings us together will always be more powerful than what keeps us apart.

Please exercise your right to vote.

10 Entry-Level IT Jobs and What You Need to Get Started

1.Help Desk Technician

Median annual US salary: $59,660

Job out look:  5% annual growth

Requirements: Knowledge of computer systems and troubleshooting. Certifications, associate degrees, or bachelor’s degrees may be requested.

When a computer user or employee is having problems with hardware, software, or a network, they call on a help desk specialist to assist. A help desk technician might maintain, install, or troubleshoot hardware and software, resolve networking issues, or help resolve other problems for other company employees. The title for this role might vary. Help desk technicians can also be called help desk analysts, desktop support technicians, service desk technicians, and computer support specialists, among several other titles. These positions collectively are sometimes referred to as help desk positions.

Many IT professionals start their careers in help desk roles. If you don’t know where to start in IT, this may be a good role to consider because it’ll expose you to other areas of IT. As you gain experience, it’s possible to move into other jobs, like system or network administrator, cloud engineer, or information security analyst.

2.IT Technician

Average annual US salary: $49,223

Job out look: 5% annual growth

Requirements:  Knowledge of computer systems and troubleshooting. Certifications, associate degrees, or bachelor’s degrees may be requested.

Like help desk technicians, IT technicians work to support the technical issues within an organization’s computer system. But while help desk technicians might spend more time resolving user issues, IT technicians are more likely to spend time doing the actual technical work to resolve the

issue. An IT technician should be able to troubleshoot, know how to use several operating systems, and understand the basics of IT networks.

IT technicians can also be called IT associates, IT analysts, or IT specialists. Some companies may have IT technicians do help desk work as well.

Looking to break into the field? Consider learning job-ready skills with a recognized tech name by enrolling in IBM’s IT Support Professional Certificate program. In just 3 months, you’ll get hands-on experience with IT fundamentals such as network architecture, troubleshooting, cybersecurity, and databases.

3.Web Developer

Median annual US salary: $80,730

Job out look: 16% annual growth

Requirements: Ability to program. Associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degrees may be requested.

Web developers create websites that businesses use to operate and interact with their customers. This field breaks down into three main areas: front-end, back-end, and full-stack developers. Front-end developers design the parts of a website that users interact with. Back-end developers build and maintain the server, application, and database that power a website. Full-stack developers do both.

Requirements for entry-level candidates will vary by company and industry. It’s possible to get a job with a high school diploma or an associate’s degree, especially if you’ve done some web development on your own. Front-end programming languages you’ll want to learn include HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Back-end programming languages might include Python, Ruby, or PHP.

4.Systems Administrator

Median annual US salary: $90,520

Job out look:  2% annual growth (as fast as average)

Requirements: Experience with computer systems. Certifications, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience may be requested.

System administrators , also called computer administrators, install, configure, and maintain operation of multi-user computer systems and servers. A successful sysadmin uses their knowledge of software, hardware, and networks to keep businesses running smoothly. Their roles can overlap heavily with network administrators

Develop your skill set through an entry-level information security certification like the CompTIA Security+. Many infor mation security analysts have a bachelor’s degree in information assurance or computer science. If you can’t land an information security analyst position immediately, try getting your foot in the door with a help desk or IT technician position, and build experience from there.

10.Cloud Engineer

Average base US salary: $114,917 [ 11 ] Requirements:  Knowledge of cloud platforms. Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or equivalent experience are typically preferred.

Cloud engineers help businesses migrate applications, functions, and processes to the cloud. They typically oversee the design, configuration, and monitoring of cloud-based services like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and the Google Cloud Platform. As more companies move their IT infrastructure to the cloud, the demand for cloud engineers continues to rise.

Many companies look for entry-level candidates with at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. That said, having relevant experience can set you up to be competitive for the job as well. If you’re working your way up to become a cloud engineer, try starting in positions like system or network administration that’ll expose you to some work with the cloud. As you gain experience, you can advance to become a cloud developer, cloud administrator, or cloud architect.

Ways to Celebrate NDEAM

What is NDEAM?

NDEAM, also known as "Disability Awareness Month" or "Disabilities Awareness Month," acknowledges, celebrates and commemorates the contributions of employees with disabilities. It also raises awareness of employment-related issues unique to people with disabilities.

NDEAM was for malized by Congress in 1988 and is celebrated throughout October. The United States Department of Labor (DOL) selects the NDEAM theme, which, for 2024, is "Access to Good Jobs for All."

List of National Disability Employment Awareness Month ideas

Here is a list of the best ways to celebrate National Disability Awareness Month at work.

1.Hold a Lunch and Learn

Lunch and learns are one of the best National Disability Awareness Month events. During these sessions, employees gather to share a meal and hear information about a topic. Example subjects might include history on the disability movement, challenges disabled workers face in the professional world, and how to be a good ally to disabled peers. Be

sure to leave time at the end for answering questions from the audience.

2.Screen a Documentary

Movie screenings are one of the easiest National Disability Employment Awareness Month activities for work. To watch a movie, you only need a film, large screen and projector or AV setup, and a room big enough to fit the audience, or, streaming software that allows the group to watch together remotely. There are many documentaries that are both educational and entertaining and make for an informative and engaging team movie night. Suggestions: Crip Camp •Creating the Spectacle Unrest • Right Footed • When I Walk • Born for Business

3. Review Company Policies and Accommodations

Reviewing and revising policies is one of the most practical Disability Awareness Month ideas. While celebration and recognition is nice, these gestures are less meaningful if the workplace is not accessible and empowering to disabled professionals. You can seek feedback from staff, hire a consultant, and review stan -

dards with leadership to search for more opportunities to better support workers facing physical or mental adversity. Use this month as a catalyst to ask “what more could we do?” and identify immediate and longer-term steps you can take to make the workplace more inclusive to workers with different needs.

4.Host a Contest

Employees are often an organization’s best resource. By holding a contest, you can tap your staff to make the work environment more amenable for disabled colleagues. Simply put a call out for ideas to make the office more accessible. You can give brainstormers a budget, and have a panel of judges review the ideas and pick the most helpful option. The winning idea gets implemented, and the team or team member behind the idea earns a gift card. This approach sparks employee creativity while encouraging all employees to take responsibility for designing more inclusive work settings.

5.Invite Guest Speakers

time for questions and answers at the end.

6.Put Together a Care Package

One of the most fun Disability Awareness Employment Month ideas is to create a care package of products from disabled entrepreneurs. Many disabled professionals start their own business or run shops online to supplement income, and there are also organizations that exist to provide more employment opportunities for folks with severe disabilities. By purchasing from these organizations, you can directly support the disabled community and treat your employees at the same time.

The gifts can include brochures and learning materials to help educate recipients along with general goodies like snacks and swag. You can also include items that support different disabilities yet have widespread appeal, such as fidget gadgets, journals, and keyboard rests. If handing out care packages, then be sure to hand out goodies to all employees rather than singling out disabled team members.

7.Support a Disability Charity

Many advocates and motivational speakers dedicate their careers to speaking about disability issues. You can book a speaker to visit the office or call in via Zoom to give a talk to staff. Speech subjects might include the history of the disability movement, the realities the community currently faces, or an account of firsthand experiences with a condition. These events could be a standalone lunch and learn, part of a special event series, a feature of a celebration, or part of a meeting. For best results, these talks should be interactive and have

Supporting a disability philanthropy is one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate National Disability Awareness Month at work. The team can volunteer for an organization that supports folks with disabilities, for instance helping the vision impaired run errands via an app or helping to install accommodations like handrails or ramps. The team can also raise money for such organizations.

Interview with a Journey-Level Ironworker

What Do You Do?

As a journey-level ironworker, I work on a variety of large projects involving iron and steel. There are different types of ironworking, depending on the job.

For example, I may do ornamental ironwork that covers areas such as railing and fencing, structural ironworking to erect and connect large iron beams, and welding to connect and secure ironwork. Other projects include rigging, which requires moving heavy loads and operating or directing machinery, and rebar, which is the reinforcement aspect of ironwork and helps keep concrete strong.

How Did You Become Interested in This Occupation?

I lost my job in another field due to drug addiction. Once I got into recovery, I met someone who was willing to help me, and

he happened to be an ironworker. He told me about his career and the ironworkers apprenticeship program. I went to the union training facility and was hired the next day.

I didn’t grow up wanting to be an ironworker, and I got a late start in the apprenticeship program. I was older than most other apprentices, but I was at a place in my life where I wanted to provide. I needed something to stabilize my life and provide structure. This happened to be the right path.

How is Ironworker Training Organized?

It’s a 4-year apprenticeship program. It really dialed me in to being a successful ironworker. I went from not knowing anything about the trade to learning so much, and all in a 4-year window. It’s incredible, a great program.

And the on-the-job training?

In on-the-job training, you're put to work. It involves a lot of watching and asking questions. I was paired with an experienced ironworker. If he was looking at blueprints for a job, I would be looking over his shoulder. You start with basic tasks, such as gathering tools, drilling holes, marking beams, and setting up the work area. As you learn more and the supervisor sees your capabilities, you get assigned more complex tasks. But you have to earn their trust.

What skills does someone need to be an ironworker?

Some math skills are important: basic algebra and adding and subtracting fractions. Also, communication skills are important, both verbal and nonverbal. We work on construction sites that are normally loud, so you need to be able to speak clearly or have some line-of-sight communication.

You also need a willingness to do physically taxing work that can be dirty, and you need to be somewhat strong because there’s a lot of lifting involved. It’s also helpful to have common sense related to staying safe.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Working around other tradespeople’s schedules can be logistically challenging. One trade may be either behind or ahead of another, and you can’t complete your work until they do. You do something else, and then jump back to your original assignment. It’s a lot of back and forth.

What do you like best?

I enjoy the building aspect of ironworking: seeing how something is going to fit or come together. I have moments of doubt between the beginning of a project and the end, when the job doesn’t seem like it’s going to work. But eventually it does, and that’s a beautiful thing.

Projects often seem like they’re never going to end or there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Then you see it happen piece by piece, day by day. It’s pretty amazing. It’s rewarding. There’s pride and satisfaction that come with starting something and finishing it. That’s true even with daily tasks.

What advice do you have for someone interested in this occupation?

Don’t let age determine when you start again or try something new. You don’t need prior experience or a degree. The apprenticeship will train you. Our union is an open door, and you don’t need to know an existing member to join. I recommend just showing up.

And, like in any job, show up on time and show up every day. Put your best foot forward, and do the best that you can. That goes a long way toward having a successful career.

Getting a Job with The Federal Government

Federal Job Application: Eligible Candidates

There are several hiring paths to explore in detail, depending on your background experience. There are several nuances to consider to match the target position, but these are the categories of potential employees that are eligible to get a government job in the federal sector:

• veterans and military spouses (special bonuses and advantages with Preference Programs);

• for mer or current federal workers;

• students or graduates without experience in the field;

• Alaskan Native or American Indian Americans with extra benefits;

• senior executives, and so on

Although there are thousands of federal government jobs available for interested parties, including unique positions such as training specialists in the Transportation Security Administration, recreation fee clerks, and administrative support assistants, your recruitment path may be full of hidden pitfalls.

How to Get a Job with the Federal Government

Whether you are a newbie or completed government job applications before, it is crucial to ensure your level of preparedness isn’t based on outdated information and practices. Here are a few things you will have to bear in mind whenever pursuing your goals in the federal professional environment: Ensure you have access to vacancy announcements from reliable sources. USAJOBS is the most popular platform to find infrastructure jobs here and now, but several employment

If you are enthusiastic about the public sector, customer service, and seek a team environment where everyone’s ideas are valued, we want to meet

offers are also available on websites like Indeed, Glassdoor, and LinkedIn.

On average, the recruitment process takes at least fourteen days. Even if the federal government job offer was posted several days ago, don’t hesitate to send your application.

Creating a resume and passing through interviews doesn’t mean the challenge is over. One of the crucial things in u \nderstanding how to get into government jobs lies in your preparedness to work hard and showcase your soft and hard skills during a trial or probationary period.

Both temporary and permanent employees in the market will have to deal with a security background investigation.

If your relatives already work in the target office/organization you wouldn’t mind joining, it might be better to consider another recruitment plan. As a rule, the employment of relatives, be they half-siblings, cousins, or in-laws won’t be appropriate.

How to Get a Government Job as a Civilian

Applying for federal jobs means you have certain qualifications that correspond with the target position and its requirements. While it is clear that jobs like ISRO scientists, accountants, and civil engineers won’t have the same list of skills to adhere to, some widespread performances and professional traits are still popular across markets:

Strong Reputation  — for beginners with no experience in the industry, their academic performance can be self-explanatory. In general, though, employees with no criminal history are preferred. Even if you had such issues in the past, it is better not to try to make fools of due diligence experts;

November 2024 equal opportunity employment journal

Veterans’ Preference Program for transitioning military employees and veterans, this service is a chance to enhance the likelihood of being hired for a federal government job. To ensure your eligibility, you are welcome to consult with the professional advisor in the federal market;

Enhanced Noncompetitive Eligibility — this program enables federal government agencies to recruit specialists outside the traditional hiring procedure and lets enthusiasts to compete for specific roles in the federal government that are solely available to feder al workers. Highlight your NCE status in your federal resume. The best strategy is to attach a corresponding certificate to your application for the government position.

Here are some crucial soft skills that will be a great bonus for people with a strong federal resume who want to apply for a government job:

Attention to Detail take your time to analyze the position and see whether your skills and knowledge will work for it. No matter how good your resume is, it won’t work if it doesn’t match the position’s qualifications;

Responsiveness and Adaptability showcase your skills in quickly adapting to ever-changing professional environments and stable performance that fulfills the expectations and demands of superiors;

Punctuality — otherwise, you may lose your job easily. Being late regularly signifies a lack of time management and disrupts

the work of colleagues, which negatively influences the team’s capacity to finish a project beneficially and before the predetermined deadline.

How to Apply for a Federal Job

Let’s specify the step-by-step instructions on how to land a government job:

• Search for current positions provided by federal employment organizations like ETA, MSHA, EBSA, BLS, and others.

• Complete a resume and apply for the position at USAJobs.gov, Indeed, or other platforms.

• In the case of the exam approach, find job opportunities from IBPS, SSC, and UPSC and be ready for a multi-level interview. Score the best way possible by solving papers on current affairs, general intelligence, and other topics.

• Wait for the recruitment campaign’s final and check your results.

• For most jobs in the United States gover nment, you must be a US citizen. In many cases, green card holders are not eligible for these positions.

• To simplify the challenge, let’s sum up some crucial tips for anyone seeking government jobs:

• On top of your general knowledge, improving your analytical, communication, and logical skills will always be a good idea.

• Check your eligibility for government exams. Aside from its overall efficiency, it may influence what government sector you would like to join.

• Staying focused will help you answer the interviewer’s questions properly. Think about your reasons for being the best candidate for the role and applying for it overall.

• Don’t forget to prepare some questions to deepen your understanding of the potential workforce to cooperate with and specific job duties and tasks.

• Consider the exam structure and pattern while paying close attention to the syllabus and eligibility criteria.

Whatever federal government market you are interested in, your writing skills and tactics for creating a federal resume will advance thanks to these suggestions:

• Aside from providing valid contact details, you will have to properly outline your professional profile. It isn’t as simple as in the public sector, where a single table-like format may be enough. The more specific yet precise you are, the better. List your professional achievements and prove your worth as a successful candidate by linking your skills to the target job requirements through examples of former positions.

Obtaining a federal job is a demanding task, taking into account you will have to experience several checks, tests, exams, and interviews.

• Target your federal resume to the job announcement. If you want to make it past the initial brief review, your federal cover letter and resume must clearly match your qualifications to the ones listed in the announcement.

Educational and Experience Requirements for Federal Service Jobs

Start by checking where you fit in the GS rating. It will help you define what professional offers your skills and experiences may be sufficient for. If you apply for federal jobs at GS-1, no formal education is required. The higher the level, the more peculiar demands you will have to fulfill. For instance, jobs rated at GS-9 and beyond will be out of your range unless you have a Master’s degree in certain fields (appropriate for the industry).

To navigate through these levels, remember the typical standard for the position and GS correlation:

• GS13 through GS-15 jobs are preserved for doctorates and include supervisory positions at top levels;

• GS-8 through GS-12 are usually mid-level job openings;

• GS-5, GS-6, and GS-7 are typically nice deals for enthusiasts of any background — their entry-levels aren’t Mission Impossible to reach for beginners;

• GS-4 and GS-3 employment opportunities, accordingly, are the selection of student jobs and internships.

Resume-Building Tips to Land Your Dream Government Job

Federal employment applications are extremely appealing — they hook potential members of the community with an enhanced societal status, travel and housing allowance, competitive salaries, retirement benefits, and other perks.

• Feel free to mention your volunteer experience. Although it is optional, it might be a nice factor to distinguish your professional profile from other candidates for the same position.

• Your training is crucial — any online courses and other kinds of learning curves will be sufficient to highlight in your resume.

• If there are any academic publications, awards, and honors to mention, don’t be shy to be a bit boastful.

• Must-have pieces of information include your language proficiency, security checkups ( SSC and ERC with valid until dates), and citizenship details.

• Try to keep your resume as consistent as possible. By thinking about how employers will view your work, it may be easier to adjust your tone of voice and style of writing.

Government Job Interview Process

For those applicants that are referred, the hiring committee conducts another more thorough review. From here, some applicants will be contacted directly to schedule a panel, inperson, video or phone interview. Typically, only one round of interviews takes place although certain positions may require multiple rounds.

Unlike civilian positions, government job interview process are highly structured with all questions directly related to the specific job role. All candidates are asked the exact same questions following the same order. There is typically little to no room to deviate from these questions to expand on an answer, so interviewees must be certain that their answers genuinely and accurately reflect their qualifications and skills.

In general, most interviews, whether in-person or via the

phone or video, last between half an hour to one hour. Once the interview process ends, candidates most likely to be offered the position will have references checked.

Demonstrate how you added value to your previous employers. Federal employers want to be confident that their employees will be efficient, profitable, complete projects under budget and in general add value to the team and company.

Is it Hard to Get a Government Job?

Obtaining a federal job is a demanding task, taking into account you will have to experience several checks, tests, exams, and interviews. Why is it so hard to get a government job overall? One of the most common reasons is that people don’t understand how things work here:

• Your resumes have to be customized for every application you make.

• It is a myth that all the candidate review processes are done by automated systems or AI tools. Although the latter can simplify the procedure, human resource specialists will certainly take a look at your resume.

• You stick to the general resume-building rules. It won’t be easy to get government jobs if you don’t shift your paradigm — four to six pages of text with detailed descriptions and keyword-enriched insights, info rmation about your computer software skills, education, additional training, employment history, and so on.

• Your application has to include a minimum of three references to make it eligible.

Are Government Jobs Easy?

Compared to public sector jobs, federal vacancies aren’t necessarily simpler to apply for and handle. They offer more benefits yet come with a wider range of responsibilities to satisfy. A lot depends on what GS-level career you pursue. Data entry clerks, library assistants, administrative assistants, and subway operators — these are a few examples of easy government jobs to get.

Key Takeaways on How to Become a Federal Government Employee

Taking a closer look at how to enrich your resume with proper keywords and structure it in the best way are all valuable recommendations for enthusiasts. Nonetheless, your strategy on how to get government jobs in USA has to remain flexible yet based on facts.

Consider the agency’s information and application specifications to see whether you have a chance to succeed in the target field. Not every job requires special education or expertise, but if it does and you don’t meet the requirements, others might be more talented and seasoned for the position.

To boost your chances, opt for the largest federal agencies with the most employment — the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and so on. At the end of the day, you will need to be specific about your past experiences and understand job requirements and their correlation with your GS level. Good luck!

Process Engineers are “ Chemical Engineers” who work in Process or Continuous Manufacturing – takes a formulation or recipe of ingredients and blends them together using a chemical reaction, heat, cold, fermentation, etc continuously or in a batch into a final product which is usually a liquid, powder, gas or solid.

Think tur ning milk into baby formula, oil refining, gasoline, plastic, shampoo, washing powder, toothpaste, casein, cheese, butter, beer, wine, whiskey, paint, drug or vaccine manufacturing, etc.

In a process manufacturing factory, you typically find, piping, pumps, tanks, flow valves, steam valves, temperature gauges, boilers, vessels, reactor vessels, crackers, distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, steam pipes, autoclaves, clarifiers, decanters, fluidised dryers, Program Logic Controllers (PLCs) PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) Controllers, etc,

In summary, if what you are making involves, cutting metal and welding or bolting something together like a washing machine, it’s probably manufacturing engineering. If it needs chemistry like making washing powder, it’s process or chemical engineering.

What Does a Manufacturing Engineer do?

Manufacturing Engineers use (non-chemical or nonbiochemical) processes such as:

• machining – milling, turning (on a lathe), cutting (laser, plasma, abrasive water jet), grinding. electrical discharge machining (EDM)

• assembling (by hand or robot) – bolting, screwing, welding, (MIG, TIG, spot, friction), soldering, glueing, riveting

• injection moulding, 3D printing

• melting, casting, extruding, rolling, forging

• machine pressing, stamping, shearing, punching, folding, drawing (for making wire)

• precision measurement – using micrometres, vernier callipers, slip gauges, dial gauges, coordinate-measuring machines, etc

• heat treatment (to alter the properties of the material) –annealing, normalising. hardening, tempering, carburisation, etc

They use these processes to tur n materials or individual parts into a final product often on an assembly line. They are responsible for ensuring that this is carried out in the most time-efficient and cost-effective way while still maintaining overall product quality.

They choose the best technologies and processes to manufacture it, plan and design the factory that will produce the product, and manage the running, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the manufacturing process. They may also be responsible for inventory control, quality management, quality control, material flow, cost analysis, procurement and supply chain management.

For a new factory or product, they would figure out the optimal manufacturing process, break out the individual process steps, design and layout the production line, choose the MFG/ENG continued on page 33

7 Reasons Why You Should Pursue a Career in Healthcare

One of the first steps to choosing a career path is deciding what industry you’d like to work within. The healthcare industry offers many career options in both direct and indirect patient care. Working within the healthcare field can offer many benefits. Here are seven to consider, which can ultimately help you decide whether a healthcare could align with your career goals. If you’re considering a job in health services or the healthcare field in general, here are some reasons why they might be a good fit for you.

1. Increasing Demand Means Potentially Greater Job Security

Job security is defined as “being able to expect continued employment, generally at the same job or company.”1 This means that the employer would need to retain a certain number of jobs for a particular position or increase the available openings. Both of these situations would provide employees with potentially greater job security by minimizing the risk of lay-offs or position eliminations.

Healthcare jobs offer this opportunity as they are projected to increase 16% between 2020 and 2030 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).2 This equates to about 2.6 million new jobs for healthcare professionals in the years ahead, and in a variety of roles. Among the roles included in these statistics are dental assistant, nursing assistant, medical records and health information management

2. You Can Make a Positive

2. Impact in Your Community

If you have a desire to help people in your community, working in healthcare can help you satisfy this goal. Some positions enable you to do this on a one-on-one basis. If you work with patients as a pharmacy technician , for example, you can help ensure that each patient’s medications are correct and in the proper dose.

Healthcare workers in more indirect roles, such as healthcare accountants , can help businesses in this industry keep an accurate record of their finances. This enables healthcare organizations and facilities to understand their financial standing when making important decisions, which can also help them to create a more resilient business that offers services to local patients for years to come.

If you have a desire to help even larger populations, you can do that in healthcare too. Health and human services offers this ability, particularly when in a role focused on promoting public health.

3. Flexible Work Hours

People can have healthcare issues any time of the day or night. To help meet these needs, many healthcare facilities are open outside of regular business hours. They serve patients at night, over weekends, and on holidays. Depending on where you work, this means the ability to have more flexible work hours. Maybe you’d prefer to work nights so you can be home with your children during the day. Or you like the idea of working weekends and having a day off during the week to take care of your personal errands. Several healthcare jobs offer this ability, providing more balance between your work life and home life.

4. Continued Education and Growth

As technology and medical treatments continually advance, so too does healthcare education. Professionals in the healthcare industry never stop learning and growing. That makes this a good field for people who like to continuously pursue a higher level of education and achieve greater professional growth.

For example, medical billing and coding requires the use of the most current coding systems. If old, outdated codes are used, it can hold up the reimbursement process. Staying educated about health coding changes helps ensure that health insurance companies are billed using the proper codes.

5. Diverse Work Settings

Careers in the healthcare field also offer the ability to work in diverse settings. If you like the idea of working at the front desk in a doctor’s office, for instance, you can do this as a medical administrative assistant. Prefer to be in the exam or treatment room instead? Becoming a medical assistant could fulfill that interest. Some healthcare fields even offer the opportunity to work remotely. Medical billing and coding is one. Health information management ) is another. As long as you have a computer – and your employer allows it – you can perform your healthcare work duties from the comfort of your own home.

6. Readily Available Education & Training

Numerous educational institutions are prepared to help individuals interested in pursuing healthcare careers. Enrolling in one can help you gain the knowledge and skills needed to fill a healthcare position.

For instance, at Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA), we offer a number of healthcare programs and degrees . Some of them are available online3, others are provided at our Clearwater campus. Clearwater campus programs are a blended training option, which means that part of the program is taken online with a certain number of pre-designated trips to campus for labs and on-site externships at a healthcare facility.

UMA also doesn’t stop at providing the education needed to work in a particular healthcare role. Our Career Services team is dedicated to assisting UMA graduates as they prepare to enter the healthcare job market. Whether our students need help with their resumes or want to practice for an upcoming interview, our team can help.

If you’re concerned about the cost of education or training, financial aid may be an option for you, if you qualify for it.

7. Upward Mobility

Another reason to consider health careers is that some may offer the ability to move up within these organizations. Depending on the position you want to move into, additional education and training may be required.

For instance, you could start as a medical assistant , helping healthcare providers by collecting and recording patients’ vital information or assisting with an exam. Then you might decide to move into a nursing role, so you go back to school and obtain the education and training necessary to become a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse.4

Of course, if you enjoy the position you’re in, you don’t have to pursue advancing to a higher-level healthcare role. Working in this industry may simply offer this option if you ever decide

As technology and medical treatments continually advance, so too does healthcare education.

that you want to move up. Whether you decide to pursue this option is entirely up to you.

These are just seven reasons why pursuing a career in healthcare might be a good decision for you. And if you decide that it is, Ultimate Medical Academy is here to help!

How to Become an Ultrasound Technician: Steps to Take

There will always be a high demand for jobs in the medical field. Especially in the U.S., where the healthcare industry is the largest employer in the country.

There are many careers in the healthcare field that are in demand that don’t require a person to become a nurse or a doctor. These careers also don’t require many years of education compared to nursing and physician careers.

An ultrasound technician is one of those careers in the medical field with great potential. According to U.S. News, diagnostic medical sonographers are ranked #6 in best healthcare support jobs and #64 in best jobs.

Keep reading if you’re curious about this fantastic career and want to learn more about it!

What Does an Ultrasound Technician Do?

An ultrasound technician conducts sonography using specialized equipment to examine parts of the human body, including the abdomen, reproductive systems, prostate, heart, and blood vessels.

The equipment that ultrasound technicians use is a cameralike probe that is placed directly on the patient’s skin, where it records images and videos. The ultrasound technician then sends the images and recordings to the physician who ordered the test.

Sonography uses sound waves instead of radiation to create an image of the internal organs. It provides physicians with a clear view of a patient’s organs so that they can find and diagnose any problems they might be experiencing.

How Hard Is it to Become an Ultrasound Technician?

How hard it is to enter the field of ultrasound tech really depends on your starting point and how much time you’re willing to invest.

If you’re already in a related healthcare field like nursing or radiologic technology, you can opt for a shorter certificate program that takes around 1-2 years. On the other hand, if you’re starting from scratch, you might go for an associate’s degree, which usually takes about 2-3 years, or even a bachelor’s degree, which is a 4-year commitment.

The coursework can be a bit tough, especially the technical stuff like anatomy, physiology, and ultrasound physics. You’ll need to wrap your head around some complex medical and tech concepts, but it’s all part of the learning process.

One thing to keep in mind is that these programs don’t

just involve hitting the books. They also include hands-on clinical training where you’ll work with real patients and get your hands on ultrasound equipment under the guidance of experienced professionals. This part of the training is crucial because it’s where you put your knowledge into practice.

Once you’ve completed your program, you’ll likely need to pass a certification exam, such as the one offered by the ARDMS , to become a registered diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS). Certification requirements can vary by state, so be sure to check what’s needed where you plan to work.

In summary, an ultrasound tech is a rewarding career in the healthcare field that offers the opportunity to make a real difference in patient care.
