THE PRECINCT Design Studio Fire, 2018 University High School, Parkville Studio Fire is the final design studio within the undergraduate program. The brief calls for a new VCE study centre and stadium to be added to UHS. My project is founded upon the idea of a constructed landform, where the students engage with the community and sports to stimulate learning and activity. The building focuses on recylcing land occupied by its footprint as high-quality green spaces with optimised Northern sun exposure.

newOrder Design Studio Air, 2018 Northcote Town Hall, Northcote Studio Air was a third year design studio focusing on parametric design. The brief was to generate a new facade and order for the Northcote Town Hall. Both column and facade were inspired by the Prostrate Blue Devil - a native shrub. The column form is symbolic of the role of the town hall as a unifying centre for the community. Meanwhile the facade builds on the spikiness of the seed, reflecting the hardiness of the Northcote community.

AXOMETRIC STUDY Construction Design, 2018 EBSS, Parkville Construction Design is the final undergraduate construction unit. Our primary project was to recreate a section of the EBSS through 1:20 drawings and models. The first stage involved interpreting documentation drawings and drafting an axometric view of the construction details. From this we produced scale models complete with cut-aways. This exercise was a test for drafting skills, construction knowledge as well as physical modelling.

FLIPBOOK SECTION Construction Analysis, 2017 House in Mout Martha Construction Analysis was the 2nd year construction unit. The lectures focused on all construction types while the tutorials revolved around residential case-studies. After being assigned a specific project, we thoroughly examined its construction through a series of assignments. These exercises focused on the progression of construction and fostered proper documentation and drafting.

PROLOGUES to what is possible Architecture Association Visiting School Melbourne, 2018 Prologues to what is possible was a studio within the 2018 AAVS program which focused on exploring architecture through the medium of avant-garde postdramatic cinema. Under the tuterlage of Spanish filmmaker à lvaro F. Pulpeiro, we were exposed to a range of radical films which went beyond mere storytelling. To complete our experimental films, we spent one week meeting and interviewing strangers. The week was capped with a filming trip to Lake Tyrell. The finished product encapsulates a belief that architecture doesn’t need to be physical, that one can inhabit an immaterial, emotional space.

BOATHOUSE Design Studio Water, 2017 Studley Park Boathouse, Kew Studio Water was a second year design studio in which we studied master architects. My master was Tadao Ando and our brief was to redesign the Studley Park Boathouse. The steep and wooded site is similar to many of Ando’s. Relying upon platonic geometries, my proposal orchestrates a journey unique to the site. By inserting the built form into this landscape, I sought not to control nature but to create contrast and enhance its presence.
