Sharing Your Testimony by Pastor John Pooler, III
hen God began to reveal Himself to the world, He did not send down files, jump drives and logs with outlines, or lectures. He began with an oral story. He went even further and created a huge visual picture of His love (creation), and then placed a man and a woman inside that picture. Adam and Eve were the first recipients of God’s revelation verbally and visually as a personal testament! Until Moses, due to the decline in man’s ability and the innate evil of society to cramp, alter, and subvert this essential testimony, God told moses to “write it down”(Exodus 17:14 Numbers 33:2) so that the testimony of love could be shared. The Bible is more than a book of
stories about God; it’s who He is to us. It isn’t just a storybook! It’s God’s testimony to each of us. And by Him sharing with us, now we are apart of God’s story of the oral and written tradition
God’s love to others who need to hear of our personal interactions with our Saviour, how He’s made a way out of no way. People need to hear about the one true God, JEHOVAH, from our neighbors to the nations and how He is still relevant, prevalent and powerful to save. God saved us so that we can share of His goodness and marvelous works! Your testimony has great value in passing the heritage that God is still able to overcome evil. Scripture in 1 John 1:2-3 says, “For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us, that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly

our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.” In this passage we find that John, who walked with Jesus, was now testifying, announcing the good news of Jesus to those who would listen. It’s important to note that not everyone will want to hear your testimony. But for the person who is seeking to overcome; every time someone stands to give a word about what the Lord has done; you are given an invitation to trust that God can still impact the maladies and myriads of mess we now face. Simply put, “Testimonies help to ensure you know that God can and God will overcome the enemy!” There is something else we need to understand about our testimony. It should be about what we know to be the truth, not what we think or what we have heard. It is all about what we know! That’s exactly what God expects from each of His followers; to simply share what we know, to testify to others of what God has done in us; to what we have seen Him do for us, and what we have accomplished by Him. We don’t have to have the Bible memorized but it must be memorialized, taken to heart and meted out in our everyday existence to prove what is true. We don’t have to be able to quote the exact dates as to when we first came into contact with the all-powerful God. But we can share our two-fold testimony verbally and visually about how and what Jesus did in us, for us and through us. We have to be
willing to share the story of what God did in our lives! I don’t know about you but rocks don’t have to cry out for me. I want to get to the point where this quote is true of me, “Preach the Gospel to everyone and, if necessary, use words!” This is an undeniable visual and verbal marketing strategy for God! Simply share you story! When Jesus healed the blind man, he shared: (John 9:24-25) “Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” When Jesus forgave the Samaritan woman, she shared: (John 4:29) “Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” (John 4:42) “And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.” The disciples were simply ordinary men who told people the extraordinary story of Jesus working in their lives. That was what Jesus wanted of them, and wants us, to do as well! Pass on the faith, pass on the truth open your life and your mouth and SHARE HIM!

“Miracles. We’ve probably seen them on TV shows, heard about them and seen them on occasion, but to be the recipient of a miracle is truly an experience that will never be forgotten. I am reminded of this song, “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I am found, was blind but now I see.” These familiar words from the old, but never outdated, hymn resonated true in my life today because of my miraculous journey that begin on Monday, December 22, 2014. That Monday began as any other day but would soon be one I would never forget. My trip to the emergency room was unexpected and shocking. The diagnosis I received, type 2 diabetes, was even more unexpected and it left me stunned. I could not walk, eat or see clearly. I was told I had a blood sugar level of 1300, an astronomical reading that was unheard of in the history of the hospital. My numbers were so elevated until they could no longer accurately get a reading. I was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit where I slipped into a deep diabetic coma. My oxygen level had climbed to an astonishing 83% (at 100% you
are deceased). The doctors quickly started me on life support to help sustain my breathing so I would not tap out. My temperature remained at 104 degrees for more than three days. All of my organs began failing and shutting down daily. On day three, the nurse informed my loved ones to get in touch with my other family members because I would not make it through the night! But GOD had the last Word! Pastor Pooler, the faithful elders, church members, family and friends prayed with me and for me day and night. I was in a coma and unaware of all the prayers that were sent up on my behalf, but tears were streaming down my face. Pastor Pooler left the hospital room informing my mom that “she is going to be fine” because “God’s got her”! The power of prayer! God is good all of the time! After nearly three weeks I walked out of Lexington Medical Center healthier and stronger than I came in. God saved a sinner like me and I cannot help but give Him honor and glory each morning before I start my day. God gave me a second chance and each day I share my testimony with someone that there is hope in any situation or circumstance. God has the final answers over doctors, nurses, hospital staff, specialists, and scientists. I am proof that when people pray a merciful prayer, there is hope. God will set you free! What a great God we serve! God is still performing miracles daily and I am living proof. God forgive me when I whine I am blessed indeed the world is Thine.” 6
Robert Scott “My parents were living in Columbia, S.C. I was attending Booker T. Washington High School. After my parents moved back to Eastover, S.C., where we were originally from, I enrolled at Webber High School in March 1954. My cousin Queenie Mae Goodwin, who will always be in my memory and my love, introduced me to my future wife, then Yvonne Henry, at school one day. After we were introduced, we talked every chance we got.
I eventually met her family. She had lots of younger brothers and sisters, and when I would visit every Sunday afternoon, I would bring a bag of candy for them all. They loved it. After graduateion, Yvonne went to train for nursing at Waverly Good Samaritan Hospital. After graduation, she was employwed at Columbia Hospital, now called the Palmetto Richland Hospital. She retired in 1994 after 32 years of service. After I graduated, I worked for a year and was drafted in the Army. When I came home on leave I asked Miss Henry for her hand in marriage. She said yes! After assuring her parents that I would take good care of their daughter, they approved. That’s how I met and married my wife.”
Paul Bell “Where I work, I’m a security guard, and a lady that works on the fourth floor came down to my desk and gave me an envelope with my name on it. That day just happened to be my birthday, so I was wondering if she was giving me something for my birthday. When I opened
the envelope, there was $50 in it, so I wondered why she gave it to me. I went to the fourth floor and asked the receptionist about the lady who gave me the money. She got the lady for me, and I asked her, ‘What’s this about?’ She said, ‘Come here, come here!’ So I walked up to her, and the told me that the Holy Spirit impressed upon her to give me that $50. I just thanked her for it. I was surprised. Nothing like that has ever happened to me, especially on my birthday.”

“I just want to say that in spite of the trials of life, if we hold on to God’s hand, He will bring us through every time. I just lost a brother, who was year older than me, and I lost my baby sister about 14 months ago.
Sometimes we have questions that have no answers, and either we can walk away from God or draw closer to Him, allowing Him to wrap us in His arms. And if we allow God to do that, we will, in due season, recieve a blessing. So I want to encourage everybody to hold on to God, no matter what you’re going through. Whatever challenges, problems or questions you might face, we serve a God who can answer them all, and He can bless us in due season.”

Leslie O’Neal “I thought I needed to have surgery again like last year. The doctor said my ovaries were twisted and that I needed to have emergency surgery. So they put me in an ambulance and rushed me to another hospital for the surgery. Turns that out that someone had read the
CAT scan incorrectly and I really didn’t need the surgery after all. Eventually, I got bills from the ER and the hospital. On top of that, I also owe the government money. At first, I started to freak out, complain and worry about my financial situation. Then I thought, ‘Wait, I have a job. I have gas in my car. I have a house, and I have food to eat.’ I realize that in spite of all the bills I have to pay, God is keeping me from sinking. He has sustained me through it all.”
Ganisha Gibson “On October 31, 1998, I was in a car accident. I fractured five bones. I was on life support and was hospitalized for several months. The only thing I remember from the accident was being ejected from the sunroof of my car and calling on the name of Jesus. After calling out His name, it felt as if an angel came to me, wrapped his arms around me safely and managed to let me land on the side of the interstate instead of the middle. Even though I did suffer a lot of major injuries,
God sustained me, kept me strong through my mother’s prayers, and managed to restore my faith and turn my eyes back on Him. At that time in my life, I wasn’t walking with God, even though I was raised in the church. I was far from Him, and I thought my life was fine. But through that accident, God made me realize that even though I thought I didn’t need Him, He was always there with me. I was reminded of Romans 8:28, ‘All things work together for good to them that love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.’ That Scripture spoke volumes to me after reading it. It was as though God was speaking directly to me. What the enemy meant for my destruction, God allowed because He saw that it would work for my good. I am thakful to be alive and able to be with my two beautiful children.”
Ryan Nelson “Sometimes, we take simple things in life for granted. I just want to thank God for health and strength. In the past eight or nine years, I have not taken off even one day of work off because of illness.
The past few medical checkups I’ve done, everything was good, so I want to thank God for the way He has kept me healthy these several years so I can spend my time and energy focusing on church work and work at school.”

“I am forever thanking God for the for the privilege of being alive today. Were it not for our heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, who is the Savior of my soul, and the Holy Spirit, I would not be making this testimony today. I thank Jesus for interceeding for me when it
comes to my health. I’ve had heart failure and several other illnesses, but because of God’s mercy and grace, He continues to make me whole in Him. And despite all of my failures, God still keeps and maintains me. And because of this, I know that God is real and is able to save our souls through Jesus Christ. God is there in the dark times. He is the God of the living and the creator of the world. So I thank the Lord for saving me from death to the hope of eternal salvation with Him. ”
Raphael Williams “First of all, I want to give God thanks for being alive. This year marks one year and one month when the doctor said that he can no longer keep me comfortable. I said, ‘I don’t want to be comfortable.’ So I stopped going to the doctor and I wouldn’t take anymore treatments. I give God thanks that I’m still here. I don’t
know why He’s kept me here, but I’m here to tell others that they can trust God because He is worthy and never fails. I have a lot of brothers and sisters in Christ who are going through a lot right now, and I want to tell them to just keep holding on, take one day at a time, and put everything in God’s hands. And no matter which way you go, you’re still a winner because God is a winner. So I want to tell my church family to continue praying for me while I pray for them. I know God is coming back soon, so I pray that I meet everyone I know in Heaven when He comes because I know that my Redeemer lives.”
Melvin Reed “I had a stroke a month ago that was due to hypertension, diabetes and not taking care of myself. It was a wake-up call for me to be in tune to my body and to listen to what God was telling me to do. As of today, the doctors still can’t believe that I’m walking. When I went to see a physical thereapist, they said that I was fully recovered and didn’t need it. I would have been wasting my money if I kept going there. So I thank God for that. I also
thank God for my church family and immediate family. I weighed 265 and now I weigh 240, and I’m trying to get down to 220. Besides everything else, I found out that words are powerful and that encouraging words can always help someone who’s going through. I say to those who are going through things to be encouraged and to always look to God because He’ll show you what you need to do. Also, don’t give up. The devil wants you to give up, and he was expecting me to give up, but I was really determined. Every day, I was at my house moving my left side because it was temporarily paralyzed. To say all of that, I know that God restore me and continues to restore me. My purpose on this earth is to encourage and share my story.” 9
Talking Taxes with

Is there anything this year that we need to be aware of when it comes to filing our taxes? There is, of course, the Affordable Care Act. It is the first year that penalties can be imposed, so we ask taxpayers if they had insurance for the entire year. If they didn’t, they will be subject to a penalty for a portion of those months without insurance. Are there any misconceptions about filing taxes? The biggest question I get is, “My friend made the same amount money that I did, but she got a bigger refund. Why is that?” But you can’t compare your situation with someone else’s without knowing all the details. What I normally tell people is, “Bring your friend in and let’s compare the two returns to see
why,” but, of course, people don’t want to do that. There is a rumor going around that our law doesn’t even require us to file income taxes. Is that true? Taxes have been around since 1823. We call those people Tax Protestors, and they are of the opinion that the Consitution does not grant the IRS permission to collect taxes. Those who’ve had that mentality who owe a substantial amount of taxes are in jail. There are plenty of celebrities who refused to pay taxes and had to do time for it. So just pay the taxes and move on. The common thing that I ran into when I worked at the Department of Revenue is when people first started their employment, they would take their W-4 and say, “exempt,” but employers know now 10
that no one is exempt. I’ve heard that there was a way to pay more taxes per month so, so when a person files for his or her yearly income tax, that person will receive little to no tax return. How does that process go? By completing a W-4, you can determine how much tax can be witheld. I’ve heard of some people who have a whole lot of money taken out for half of the year, and then have less money taken out the remainder of the year. You can do that. What I would encourage is to determine the right amount of allowance that you could claim on your W-4 and stick with it.

3A Father God Addressing Israel, Moses referred to God as their Father, who had redeemed them: “Is He not your Father, who bought you?” (Deut. 32:6). Through redemption, God adopted Israel as His child. Isaiah wrote, “O Lord, you are our Father” (Isa. 64:8; cf 63:16). Through Malachi, God affirmed, “I am the Father” (Mal. 1:6) Elsewhere, Malachi relates God’s fatherhood to His role as Creator: Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? (Mal. 2;10) God is our Father through both Creation and redemption. What a glorious truth! The Father of All Creation Paul Identifies the Father, distinguishing Him from Jesus Christ: “There is only on God, the Father, of whom are all things, . . .and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live” (1 Cor. 8:6; cf. Heb. 12:9; John 1:17). He testifies “I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named” (Eph. 3:14, 15) Jesus Reveals the Father Jesus, God the Son, provided the most profound view of God the Father when He, as God’s self-revelation, came in human flesh (John 1:1, 14). John states, “No one has seen the God at any time. The only begotten Son. . .has declared Him” (John 1:18). Jesus said, “’I have come down form heaven”’ (John 6:38); “’He who has seen Me has seen the Father”’ (john 14:9). To know Jesus is to know the Father. The Two Natures of Jesus Christ In stating, “The word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14) John set forth a profound truth. The incarnation of God the Son is a mystery. Scripture calls God’s being manifested in the flesh “the mystery of godliness” (1 Tim. 3:16). The Creator of worlds, He in whom was the fullness of the Godhead, became the helpless babe in the manager. Far superior to any of the angels, equal with the Father in dignity and glory, and yet He condescended to wear the garb of humanity! Jesus Christ is Truly God Christ possesses divine attributes. He is omnipotent. He said the Father has given Him “’all authority. . .in heaven and on earth”’ (Matt. 28:18; John 17:2)

He is omniscient. In Him, Paul said, “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (col. 2:3). Jesus asserted His omnipresence with the assurances “’Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”’ (Matt. 28:20) and “’Where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them”’ (Matt. 18:20). Although His divinity has the natural ability of omnipresence, the incarnate Christ has voluntarily limited Himself in this respect. Ha has chosen to be omnipresent through the ministry of the Holy Spirit (john 14:1618). Who is the Holy Spirit? The Bible reveals that the Holy Spirit is a person, not an impersonal force. Statements such as “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us” (Acts 15:28) reveal that the early believers viewed Him as a person. Christ also spoke of Him as a distinct person. “He will glorify Me,” He said, “for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:14) Scriptures referring to the triune God describe the Spirit as a person (Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14) The Holy Spirit has personality. He strives (Gen. 6:3), teaches (Luke 12:12), convicts (John 16:8), directs church affairs (Acts 13:2), helps and intercedes (Rom. 8:26), inspires (2 Peter 1:21), and sanctifies (1 Peter 1:2). These activities cannot be performed by a mere power, influence, or attribute of God. Only a person can do them. The Holy Spirit is Truly God Scripture views the Holy Spirit as God. Peter to Ananias that, in lying to the Holy Spirit, He had lied not “to men but to God” (Acts 5:3,4) The Holy Spirit is omnipotent. He distributes spiritual gifts “to each one individually as He wills (1 Cor. 12:11). He is omnipresent. He will “abide” with His people “forever” (John 14:16). None can escape His influence (Ps. 139:7-10). He also is omniscient, because “the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God” and “no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God” (1 cor. 2:10,11)

Bible Bowl Comes to Ephesus On Sabbath, February 28, 2015, Alisha Butler, the South Atlantic Conference Bible Bowl coordinator, visited Ephesus. She gave the players strategies on how to improve as a Bible Bowl team. Butler emphasized learning the Bible stories as a means to learning the material the teams study. Our evening began by having a fun game with the pastor,
Elder Spencer Wade, and various willing church members who played against one another. Once a winner was declared, the senior Bible Bowl team played a friendly game against the junior Bible Bowl team. Game questions came from the books of Matthews, Lamentations, Joshua and 1 Corinthians. A good time was had by all. The Juniors, ages 10-15,
were Kaleb Barnes, Kayla Barnes, Jaylen Golston and Jordan Jones. The Senior team consisted of Felicia Paxton, Jackie Rennie, Olive Sease, and Sarah Wade. Everyone was a winner! DIFFERENT WAYS TO CONTROL YOUR Submitted by Sam Paschal, Stewardship department leader
The publisher, Vie et Santé, broadcasts a program on stress control conceived by Dr Roland Fayard. We, however, would like to propose some attitudes below that encourage this restraint. A good knowledge of oneself and his/her limits is an important factor of stress control. In the case of a serious situation, it is essential to consult one’s physician.
• Don’t work more than ten hours per day
look at what you doing daily and will change your habits. • Congratulate yourself when you do a good job or when you have finished a task on time. Allow yourself to pause a little for a hot drink and a cookie, for some fresh air or stretching. • Help your colleagues and accept their help. Participating in a common task is important. • Accept the fact that you cannot change your character. In the same way, don’t get irritated when the behavior of others doesn’t please you. • Forget the past. Live in the present, the future will flow. Concentrate your efforts in this sense. • Make it your habit to smile. It is contagious! • Relax for 10 minutes in the morning and do the same in the afternoon. Go for a walk, or find a quiet place to sit for a while. Close your eyes, listen to music, if it is possible. Do something that calms you. Replenish yourself. • Take a half-hour to eat lunch. Take your time to eat and to drink. Avoid talking about your work. Relax! • Don’t forget that God himself set aside one day for “recreation.” Profit from it!

Ela Samuels Ela Samuels is proud to graduate from basic training at the South Carolina Department of Corrections justice academy. She currently works as a correctional officer and deals with inmates who come in from different walks of life. Even though she is not allowed to fully express her religious beliefs at work, Samuels, through prayer and wisdom, shares the gospel with her inmates and coworkers by her actions. Her goal is to continue using her career to help individuals who don’t know the Lord.

BAPTISM
On March 28, 2015, Tykeem Reed (top) and Evan Brown-Modeste (bottom) were baptized at the South Atlantic Conference Tri-State Youth Convocation that was held in Orangeburg, S.C. More than 40 people, mostly youth, were baptized that day.
