Autumn’s here: MEET ME IN PARIS! says our Parisian based Francophile Margaret Kemp

QUOI de NEUF?

“Good cooking is when things taste of what they are.” Maurice Edmond Saillard, known as “Curnonsky” 1872-1956 LES 110 DE TAILLEVENT Did you know that Taillevent, one of the world’s top gastronomic addresses, has a little brother? Le 110 de Taillevent, a chic designer bistro with a unique concept, has 110 excellent wines, by the glass, to match each dish. Did you also know that Le 110 launched in London, at 16 Cavendish Square, this September? Interior architect Pierre-Yves Rochon, who created the decor at the Paris 110, and redesigned The Savoy, London, has converted the listed building, formerly a branch of Coutts & Co., into a bottlelined brasserie with room for 70 or 80 diners and a small terrace. To celebrate the opening, the Parisian address backed Britain from June 3rd until August 2nd when chef Emile Cotte and his team served their spin on: Scotch eggs, Fish & Chips, lamb chops with mint sauce, blue stilton and pastry chef Kimiko Kinoshita’s light and lovely Shropshire pudding, matched, of course, with an exciting selection of wines from England and the Commonwealth. GET A ROOM: LA RESERVE, PARIS After Geneva, Ramatuelle, Mama Shelter and ten chic apartments on Place Trocadero, here’s La Reserve, Paris, the concept of Swiss-based entrepreneur Michel Reybier, also owner of Château Cos d’Estournel, Bordeaux. Located between the Champs Élysées and Faubourg Saint-Honoré, La Reserve’s 26 suites (book No. 502) and 14 rooms have handsome interior décor by architect Jacques Garcia. Built in 1854 for the Duc de Morny, La Reserve’s previous owner was couturier Pierre Cardin. The heavy red wooden doors opened last January following two years of costly transformations, and the addition of a subterranean NESCENS Swiss spa, Hamman, fitness room and 16-metre pool.

Rooms and suites have white marble, black veined bathrooms with rows of fluffy towels, mini wine cellars, private butlers, pillow menus, automatic Japanese loos, and TV screen integrated mirrors, I never want to leave! Ever! Le Gabriel, La Reserve’s gold and black restaurant, is where young chef Jerôme Banctel serves traditional, French cuisine with a nod and a wink to Japan. And, if the wine card is heavily into Reybier’s Cos d’Estournel, it doesn’t neglect great world vintages. For Michel Reybier, La Reserve, Paris, is mission accomplished.
