BRYAN PINCKNEY ’98 Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy
“As a student and still today, Episcopal surrounded me with peers and faculty that I could rely on when faced with difficult moral decisions. I am incredibly fortunate and honored to have a network to fall back on when I need a sense of grounding or a sounding board. My senior year, at times, was not easy. It was the first time in my life that I realized that decisions I made could have serious consequences for others. My experience working through those decisions and leaning on peers and faculty has stayed with me. It is those lessons and relationships that foster moral courage. It is those experiences I often reflect upon as a Naval Officer.”

ROYSWORTH GRANT ’17
Head of Service Council, Head of the Discipline Committee, Monitor, Actor, and Track Captain “I have a purpose at Episcopal. I want to make this school, and the world, better than before I came. I think of Joachim Prinz’s speech from the March on Washington in 1963 – ‘Being a neighbor is not a geographic term. It is a moral concept.’ I try to be an ally to all people. I want to be a neighbor and create a community where everybody is included.”
At Episcopal, learning and character are intertwined. Through the Leadership & Ethics Program, service learning opportunities, and the Washington Program. In the classroom, on the field, and across the stage. By embracing challenges and opportunities unique to them as members of a 100 percent residential community, students develop the intellectual and moral courage to lead meaningful lives, on and off the Hill.

YOUR GIFT TO THE ROLL CALL SHAPES LEADERS WHO WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.
Chaplain, Theology Teacher, Evans Dorm Team, and Service Learning Coordinator “When a student comes to me, ready to engage with the world outside these gates, my question is always, ‘What interests you? What do you like?’ Because if you’re able to connect a passion with service – if you’re able to bring that passion to someone else – it will catch fire for you. When your passion connects with the needs of the world, that is when amazing things happen. Not only for you, but also for those with whom you cross paths.”

EHS Parent (Sutton ’11, Ali ’13, and Camden ’17) and Trustee “When Mike and I thought about what we wanted for our children, a lot of it had to do with their values and morals. Yes, we wanted them to get a good education; but we wanted them to be good people with a good education. We could not be more pleased. All three of our children are tolerant and accepting of others, but at the same time, they know what their personal values are. They don’t have a problem expressing themselves and standing up for what they believe in, but in a way that is respectful of other people. I think they’ve probably made us better people because of their learning to do that, and I attribute that to Episcopal.”
