It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon,

I had spent the morning romping with my dog at Egypt Beach in East Hampton and finalizing the flatplan for this issue when my phone chimed. It was that time of year to dust off my vintage Belstaff jacket, don my Ray-Ban Wayfarers and join fellow guests at one of the Hamptons’ most fun season-closing events.

Of course, I’m talking about The Bridge a bespoke garden party and my favorite attendees roll in before the event even begins. Walking the course, I paid my respects to my favorite classic car the Ferrari 250 SBW, an Aston Martin Valhalla supercar, and the rarely glimpsed Porsche Half11, designed by California-based Oilstainlab in the style of the late 1960’s Porsches that raced at The Bridge. The afternoon was an utter delight, serving as the perfect capping piece for this issue, which caters to our love of things that go fast!

This issue we explored the track-resplendent McLaren Senna GTR, which McLaren North Jersey graciously provided to us for an exclusive look. This lightweight carbon-fi ber hypercar has some serious racing stats. We also review the Pagani C-10, now the Pagani Utopia, and the not-an-SUV Ferrari Purosangue.

One of our writers caught up with Luxsport’s Lance Yudkin on the way to Nest Seekers’ James Giugliano’s listing, the “Swans Crossing” Estate, in the Hamptons. The car, company, and contemporary home did not disappoint.

Slowing things down, we feature two perpetual calendar watches by Audemars Piguet and De Bethune, both styled in blue. Lastly, we sneak a peek at The Strand’s new development at Turks & Caicos, a tropical escape that styles itself as a hotel and potential home-away-from-home, and one of NYC’s latest crown jewels in its hotel portfolio, Aman, which promises to offer unrivaled luxury accommodations and residences.

As always, check out EQ Magazine on Instagram @eqmagazine_ and on our website www.equicapmag.com for additional content and sneak peeks of our upcoming projects. Stay warm in these coming months as we get our Yachting Issue underway.

CHRONOS in blue ceramic (Ref. 26579CS. OO.1225CS.01) AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK PERPETUAL CALENDAR AUDEMARS PIGUET RELEASES THE ROYAL OAK PERPETUAL CALENDAR IN AN ALL-NEW CERAMIC TURNING BLUE EQ. FALL 2022 equicapmag.com6

The new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar is water-resistant to a depth of 20m.

Among the most important and iconic collections in watchmaking, Audemars Piguet has built a bonafide legacy upon the Royal Oak. This year, in-line with the provocative spirit of the historical design, the manufacturer is working to push the collection a step further, introducing a new color palette into the sports watch family via its latest novelty.

Dubbed the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in blue ceramic, the model merges classic, long-established design elements of the series with particularly modernist veins via color and material, altogether resulting in one of the most interesting launches of the year from the watchmaker. Importantly, the watch makes use of a new blue ceramic material for its case and bracelet, marking the fi rst time Audemars Piguet has opted for the bright hue in its catalog.

On the wrist, the model measures 41mm in diameter, with its octagonal case, bezel, and integrated bracelet each constructed of the intense blue ceramic. Eight metal screws along the bezel's edge serve as the only material contrast to the ceramic on the case, with meticulous brushed and polished fi nishing throughout working in tandem for an elevated textural break-up of the aesthetic. Measuring only 9.5mm in height, the watch is particularly slender on the wrist, the sporty aesthetic remaining in-line with the "extra thin" historical ethos of the larger Royal Oak family.

Echoing the color of the ceramic case, the dial is composed of nearly allblue detailing save for its white detailing, resulting in a general monochromaticstyle for the timepiece. Like many previous Royal Oak watches, the dial opts for a “Grande Tapisserie” style, its large pattern of squares reflecting different hues of the cool

look against shifting light. Four sub-dials indicating the month/leap year, day, date, and moon phase rest upon the surface, with each featuring white printed indices against their otherwise blue backgrounds, with exception to a small detail of red for the "31" indication for the analog date. An outer curved ring showcasing the week of the year surrounds the confi guration, while applied hour indices in white gold with matching hands complete the look.

Powering the uncommon ceramic model is the Audemars Piguet caliber 5134, with the incredibly thin 4.5mm mechanism being seen in a number of previous iterations of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar. True to its name, the 40-hour automatic movement ensures a perpetual calendar functionality for the watch, which together with the dial, showcases the current week, day, date, astronomical moon, month, leap year, hours, and minutes continuously.

The new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in blue ceramic (reference 26579CS.OO.1225CS.01) is available now via appointment only at one of the brand's in-person boutiques. The model will be, technically, available on a non-limited basis, though will likely be highly-limited in production. Pricing is currently only available by request, but will likely follow the 2019-launched white ceramic iteration of the model, with retail likely to hover around $100,000. EQ.

wiss watchmaker De Bethune is a champion of design novelty, often utilizing experimental case shapes, unusual dial styles, and rich jewel tones as stylistic trademarks. Recent models like the De Bethune Dream Watch 5 “Season 1” and DB25 Starry Varius Aérolite among many others highlight this signature design ethos, with the brand having built a renown around its provocative, often futurist aesthetics.

Leading into the fall, De Bethune introduced its latest in the DB25 Perpetual Calendar.

Presenting a more subdued version of the brand's uncommon creativity in aestheticism, the timepiece nonetheless serves as the latest embodiment of the avantgarde watchmaker. The model is also the latest update to the brand's established DB25 collection and furthers its DB25 Perpetual Calendar line, introducing to it an updated colorway and movement.

Like previous DB25 models, the general style of the model takes its inspiration from the shape of drums, with the titanium case featuring a 40mm diameter with

open-worked lugs signature to the collection, and measuring 11.3mm tall. A feeling of lightness from the hollowed-out design and case material adds to its charm, with it at once as sporty in its use of titanium as it is elegant in its execution and sleekness.

Within the titanium case sits the gray and blue hand-guilloché patterned dial. Approachable in its configuration, yet expertly executed by its many textures and curves the display follows previous DB25 models in its style while demonstrating a De Bethune suave specific to the new colorway.

As for the particulars, the dial features a blue outer ring with gray Roman numeral

indices, gray-metallic hands, and sub-dials towards the 12 and 6 o’clock positions. The 12 o’clock subdial showcases a leap year and spherical moon phase indication made from palladium and blued steel, while the 6 o’clock subdial indicates the date. Then at the 9 o’clock position there is a window for the day, while on the opposite side an indicator for the month is at work.

Powering the perpetual calendar is De Bethune caliber DB2324V2. Being the “V2” version of the original DB2324 caliber, the self-winding mechanism offers a 5-day power reserve and boasts the “physics

and mathematically-driven” approach that De Bethune has applied to improve its mechanics as the brand has matured. The exhibition caseback displays a titanium balance equipped with fine white gold weights around its rims, the feature helping better ensure an updated, precise performance of the movement in comparison to preceding calibers.

The new De Bethune DB25 Perpetual Calendar (ref. DB25QPARS1) is limited in production to fi fteen units per year, with the pricing marked at CHF 125,000, or about $129,300 USD. EQ.

The calibre DB2324V2 contains 423 parts and 49 jewels.

The DB25 operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

PUROSANGUE THE MARQUE’S

SUV

FERRARI’S
FIRST EVER
FOUR DOORS, FOUR SEATS, AND MASSIVE V12 POWER. WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE? EQ. FALL 2022 equicapmag.com10

After 75 years of research, Ferrari has created a vehicle that exists exactly at the intersection of Prancing Horse performance and lavish comfort.

t seems only months ago that Ferrari was swearing on Mother Teresa’s grave that it would never, ever build an SUV. Yet here, in all its four-door, four-seats-withcupholders glory, is the Ferrari Purosangue, Maranello’s first sport utility vehicle.

Of course, with a customary, oh-so-Italian shrug of the shoulders, the folks at Ferrari are dismissing the notion that the Purosangue could ever be an SUV. It’s a sports car, pure and simple, they say.

WHEELS
EQ.FALL 2022equicapmag.com 11follow us on @eqmagazine_

Yet this is the first Ferrari in Maranello’s 75-year history to offer this much utility, this many doors. And it comes with four-wheel drive (of sorts), seating for four in relative comfort, and a tailgate with space in the back for “stuff.”

But first, a word about that name. You actually pronounce it rather inelegantly as Poor-oh-sang-way. We mistakenly thought it might have something to do with “pure” and “sangue,” as in pure blood. No, it seems Poor-oh-sang-way is Italian for “thoroughbred.”

See it in the metal though, and it is 100 per cent thoroughbred. Second only perhaps to Aston Martin’s DBX, this could be the sexiestlooking SUV out there, with its mile-long clamshell hood, sensuous side curves, muscular haunches over its rear wheels, and a gorgeous, swooping roofl ine.

It’s also big. Nose to tail, it stretches over 16 feet with most of it seemingly made up of that front-hinged clamshell hood and well over five feet wide. Yet it doesn’t necessarily look overly large, courtesy of 22-inch rims at the front, and 23s at the rear – the biggest ever fitted to a Ferrari.

Interestingly, Ferrari seems to have taken

a leaf out of the Rolls-Royce style book by equipping the Purosangue with rear-hinged “suicide” back doors. Pull on a teeny, fin-like latch on the shoulder line and the rear doors power open with a near 90-degree swing.

In the back there’s a pair of well-bolstered bucket seats. And no, there’s not a threeacross, bench-seat option, or heaven-forbid, an available third row. Here is the successor to Ferrari’s outgoing GT4C Lusso four-seat “shooting brake,” but with back seats that people can actually sit in without having their knees up by their ears.

When it came to powering their newest Prancing Horse, Ferrari definitely went old school. Casually ignoring the current hybrid or all-electric trend, they gave the Purosangue a massive, naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Boasting the highest output of any Ferrari GT ever, it packs an impressive 715 horsepower and 528 lb-ft of torque.

Ferrari engineers rightly focused on giving the V12 lots of flexibility and low-end power delivery to suit that family-friendly SUV character; the engine produces 80 per cent of its torque at just 2,100rpm.

One of Ferrari’s key considerations in designing the Purosangue was sustainability 85 percent of the car’s launch trim was sustainably produced.

WHEELS EQ. FALL 2022 equicapmag.com12

That said, the Purosangue should deliver astonishing performance. Maranello claims standstill to 62mph acceleration in 3.3 seconds, 0-to-124mph acceleration in just 10.6 seconds, and a top speed of 193mph. Those are proper supercar numbers.

Like the GTC4 Lusso, the Purosangue can send some drive to the front wheels, though it’s essentially a rear-wheel driver. At any gear above fourth, or at speeds over 125mph, the front-drive unit disengages.

While Ferrari does talk about some off-road capability, don’t plan any trips to the Rubicon Trail. There’s no off-road setting on the five-position steering wheel “manettino,” and no height

adjustment to the suspension. And forget about towing your ATV a tow hitch isn’t even offered.

If all this is prompting you to pull-out your AMEX Centurion Black card, the price tag of this new Purosangue is expected to start at over $400,000. That’s almost twice the price of an Aston DBX, Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga Speed.

But don’t expect your local Ferrari dealer to have Purosangues lined-up on the lot when production kicks-off mid-2023; Maranello has already stated that it’ll cap sales at 20 per cent of total output.

Like any Ferrari, it will always be super-rare, super-exclusive. Even if it is an SUV. EQ.

Eco-friendly materials including recycled polyester, polyamide reprocessed from salvaged fishing nets, and newly formulated Alcantara® derived from restored polyester are incorporated into the Purosangue’s interior.

“IF ALL THIS IS PROMPTING YOU TO PULL-OUT YOUR AMEX CENTURION BLACK CARD, THE PRICE TAG OF THIS NEW PUROSANGUE IS EXPECTED TO START AT OVER $400,000.”

PAGANI IS NOT YET SHIFTING TO ELECTRIC WITH ITS LATEST SUPERCAR
WHEELS

f you asked most folks in the automotive space whether or not we would see the launch of a V12 supercar with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive in 2022, the answers would not be especially optimistic. After all, electrification is the new name of the game for the industry at large, and the percentage of the population able and willing to drive stick is a dwindling minority at best.

That said, the auction market has proven that there’s still room in the market for this kind of analog experience especially in the upper echelon and with a name like Pagani, that analog experience is just the start. The new Pagani Utopia, originally code-named C-10, is Pagani’s third generation of supercar. Its predecessors, the Zonda and Huayra, firmly hold their respective pages in automotive lore for delivering incredible poise and power, alongside bespoke interiors only matched by the likes of Rolls-Royce. For the Utopia, the trilogy of internal combustion is complete. Once again, a specially built V12 engine with six liters of displacement from Mercedes-AMG provides power, mated to either a six-speed manual or an XTRAC seven-speed transversal automated manual gearbox for those who love shifting via paddles. The newest mill delivers 864 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque, which comes up a notch from the outgoing Huayra R, with which this powerplant’s base is shared.

With a dry weight of 2,822 pounds, the power-toweight ratio in the Pagani Utopia is right where it should be in between the Huayra BC and track-only Huayra R. Considering this is the “standard version” of the new model (if you could call such a thing “standard”), this certainly bodes well for what’s to come of the next decade of Pagani. These details also speak to why we aren’t seeing electrification from Pagani just yet.

When in the development process, Mercedes-AMG offered

up two different powertrain options. Alongside the monster V12, AMG put forth the idea of the V8 and electric motor package currently used in the AMG GT 63 S E. Though the latter is exciting and new, Pagani still isn’t entirely sold on electrification. Using simulations, Horacio’s R&D team was able to determine that the Utopia would be several seconds slower around the Nürburgring should they go that route. Though the all-wheel drive of the hybrid pack would have its advantages, in the end the weight burden would not be overcome on the track.

In a recent interview with Top Gear, Horacio Pagani effectively clarifies the brand’s position on their moves toward electrifi cation. “We’ve had a team only focusing on full electric, but at the same time they’re also evaluating all the other options that could be also hybridization. I own a Porsche 918 and I love it on electric driving from my house to Modena which is probably 15 kilometres, [but then] the battery’s gone. So when I’m driving back home, I carry all the weight of things that are completely discharged.”

So for now, the 99 examples of the Pagani Utopia will rely on fossil fuels, as will the subsequent variants of the model that will follow most likely. When speaking of the pinnacle of automotive performance and exclusivity, this is not the place in which to start eco-shaming. The consumption of less than a hundred supercars will not change our climate, so we might as well let those with the 2,170,000 Euros to spare enjoy this last ode to petrol-fueled tire shredding. EQ.

THE HAMPTONS’ BEST GARDEN PARTY…

If you listened closely, between the chinking of Champagne flutes, the sound of laughter and merriment, and the rockin’ vibes of a local band, you might have just heard the faint rolling thunder of racers past, blasting around the dearly departed Bridgehampton Race Circuit.

The hugely successful The Bridge car show celebrated, as it has for the past six years, this once-legendary Hamptons track, with a display of more than 300 spectacular classic cars that either raced, or might have been eligible to race, at Bridgehampton.

Today the circuit, which motorsport legend Stirling Moss once called the “most challenging

course in America,” is now mostly grassedover after its transformation into the superexclusive, members-only Bridge Golf Club.

But for one Saturday a year, the manicured fairway plays center stage to one of the most remarkable, hand-picked gatherings of vintage and contemporary machinery ever assembled in one place.

This is not, however, some stuffy concours d’elegance where blue-blazer’d judges toting clipboards award the “Best in Show.” Instead, The Bridge is all about celebrating history and the automobile and, for the reported 2,000-orso invited guests, simply having fun.

Founded in 2016 by Bridge Golf Club owner and car collector Robert Rubin, in partnership with ultra-luxury communications specialist Shamin Abas, and Manhattan attorney and car enthusiast Jeffrey Einhorn, the event has grown from a display of just 60 cars to the most recent’s 300-plus.

The specially curated gathering of jawdropping machines, most of them from ultraprivate local collections, was up to its usual sky-high standard. This year’s headline feature included a gathering of vintage prototypes and show cars that have, for years, been hidden away from public view.

Cars like the stunning 1967 Monteverdi 375L with one-off coachwork by Frua. This was the car once-owned by German industrialist-cum-playboy Gunther Sachs and used to transport his wife at the time, Brigitte Bardot, around the streets of St. Tropez.

Paying tribute to the Bridgehampton racing legacy were cars like the earth-shaking 1962 Holman Moody Challenger III. This newly restored racer, with its unique chopped and sectioned body, was an early, preMustang, concept for Ford to squeeze a big V8 into a small-bodied coupe to go racing.

In addition to vintage machinery, The Bridge was also brimming with some of the world’s newest supercars and luxury rides.

Lamborghini brought no fewer than 20 cars from a Miura to the latest Aventador to display on the field. Also grabbing selfie attention was California-based Czinger, who showed-off its latest 1,233hp longtail 21C V Max hypercar. Top speed? That would be an insane 281mph.

Also on hand was the sensational Aston Martin Valhalla plug-in hybrid rocketship, along with a McLaren Senna GTR and the Brit car maker’s latest Artura, while Bugatti wowed the crowd with its Chiron Pur Sport and a one-of-30, $5 million Chiron SuperSport 300+.

But it wasn’t all car action at The Bridge. Long-time event sponsor Richard Mille pulled the wraps off its new, limited-edition RM UP-01 Ferrari timepiece, the first watch from its partnership with Maranello. Claimed to be the thinnest watch in the world, its case measures a wafer-like 1.75mm. Just 150 will be offered, each costing an eye-watering $1.88 million.

For those not lucky enough to be on the exclusive invite-only guest list, the action continued Sunday with a Cars & Coffee hosted by the Bridgehampton Historical Society. This open-to-all event featured many of the cars shown the previous day at The Bridge.

And for the first time, The Bridge organizers hosted a fund-raising Sunday garden party brunch at the historic Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton. Along with a specially curated car display, globally-renowned French chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, was on hand to rustle-up some of his favorite dishes from his restaurant locations around the world.

“It’s been an incredible ride watching this event grow from an informal gathering of vehicular tribes, to a beautifully-executed afternoon with hundreds of incredible cars and thousands of enthusiasts,” explains co-founder Bob Rubin. “This year was, without doubt, our most exciting event yet.” EQ.

With its last major professional race in 1970, by 1981 the race circuit was in a state of disrepair. Bob Rubin in collaboration with The Friends of Bridgehampton began caring for and maintaining the racecourse despite its waining use.

Allan Greenfield, McLaren North Jersey’s sales manager, spoke with EQ about his dealership’s participation at The Bridge, saying that they were “invited by the founders… and this year they were interested in having our McLaren Senna GTR there.”

It comes as no surprise that the dealership’s coveted car was a hot commodity at the event “it’s an extremely limited track-only variant of the McLaren Senna, their fastest track-focused road hyper car ever built,” explains Greenfield.

The 25th unit of a limited production run of 75 cars, McLaren’s Senna GTR is as rare as it is remarkable. Finished in sleek Marlboro Racing livery, this capable supercar is ready to race, though it has yet to ever take on the asphalt. Yes, it is only track legal, but that feeling you’ll get when you’re hurtling down the speedway with just over 2,200 lbs of down-force allowing you to power through any turns will feel exhilarating.

This stylish Berlinetta was designed by famed Italian car designer, Pininfarina S.p.A., and was one of the most successful releases from Ferrari…ever, with nearly 20,000 models produced. Part of the appeal of this car is its easy maintenance, since the 328 GTS is fuel injected with a gated manual transmission.

On the way to James’ south-of-the-highway listing, always interested in hearing of Lance’s latest acquisitions and clients, no names of course, he told me of this one client who recently took out a 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera for the weekend, then proceeded to take it to the track and put it through its paces. No issue for LuxSport, their array of maintenance and detailing services had the car ready to go for a photoshoot two days later. (They also offer restoration, photography and consignment services.) Acquisitionswise, he’s always on the lookout for in-demand rare autos with a particular push towards collectables, so his stock is fl uid and I typically fi nd myself itching to jump into his latest and put the pedal to the metal.

As with all go-fast cars, the journey was over too quick, and we turned down the picturesque drive. This contemporary 6-bedroom, 6.5-bath, 6,188 SF home that’s perched on 5.53 well-manicured acres overlooks Halsey Neck Pond and is steps from Coopers Beach. The har-tru

tennis court beckoned, and the pool would be a wonderful way to cool off after a good match, but it was not to be. A tour of 359 Meadow Lane, “Swans Crossing Estate” as it is called, and the rest of the property included a spa, pool house, numerous outdoor terraces and even a staff quarters. Between those amenities, the views of Halsey Neck Pond, and the benefit of supreme gated privacy within this paradisical property, I was envying the next homeowners.

We positioned LuxSport Motor Group’s Ferrari’s 328 GTS on the cobblestoned motorcourt, while the Swans Crossing Estate provided an ideal backdrop to capture EQ’s appreciation for things that go fast whether it’s a luxury listing shifting into escrow, or a supercar sprinting across the fi nish line. Turks and Caicos’ THE STRAND

HOSPITALITY
LUXURIOUSLY LIVING THE ISLAND LIFE EQ. FALL 2022 equicapmag.com32

The Strand offers lavish and flexible resort-style living, ideal for owners with young families.

alling all those interested in permanently residing on island time, did you know Turks and Caicos offers tax advantaged living? Though moving to the Caribbean may seem like a big jump, buyers purchasing a second home there can qualify to obtain permanent resident status. Residency is notably touted as being a worthwhile investment, as buyers are guaranteed the title to their property and the U.S. dollar is denominated. Moreover, once the property is paid, no further taxes are associated with ownership.

With so many benefits of living in Turks and Caicos, it’s a no-brainer as to why so many are flocking down south. For those considering making the move, The Strand’s residential resort community offers 46 beachfront villas, custom residences, and homesites. This permanent high-end hospitality lifestyle means that your dream vacation never has to end with full resort amenities and services available to residents as an everyday way of life.

“The Caribbean, and Turks and Caicos in particular, now more than ever is seeing an influx of interest from a younger demographic who are craving a special legacy home that can be passed down through generations,” said John Fair, managing director and developer of The Strand, in a press statement. “The Strand is appealing to these active families due to the collection of shared sport and socializing amenities, such as access to the Beach and Racquet Club, a concept which does not currently exist in Turks and Caicos and further creates opportunity for connectivity among owners and guests.”

Although it may seem too good to be true, The Strand’s high-end amenities, services, and opportunities for turn-key living come at a less expensive price tag than other properties in the

near vicinity. How is this possible, you ask? “The Strand is its own brand, just not tied to a ‘fl ag,’” Fair explains to EQ, speaking of his luxury, nonbranded property. “It will have its own unique experience and personality, much of which emanates from the Strand being organized as a private club. Hospitality guests will be guests of the Club. Service will be more personal than a typical 5-star hotel and there will be a strong emphasis on activities and adventure.”

With an unspoiled stretch of swimmable shoreline, a slew of beach toys, and owners-exclusive invitations to club parties and weekly events, where is certainly adventure abound. Fair continues, “The Strand will operate as an ultra-exclusive resort with one-bedroom suites and two- to eight-bedroom villas. Every suite and bedroom on the property is directly beachfront.” With all permits and approvals in place, the developers are currently working to build the single-family homes, marina, and beach club.

Residents will always be glad to return to home sweet home, as homeowner’s amenities at The Strand will include access to club boats catamarans which come sumptuously stocked with a private captain kayaks, and paddleboards, along with tennis and pickleball courts, a fitness center, and a secluded yoga deck. Boat owners can dive into enjoying their serene slip in the full, private marina. Or make a splash with the bone fishing, deep sea fishing, and scuba diving activities hosted in select slips.

While The Strand chiefly provides permanent residency, some rental opportunities are also available. Fair explains, “Owners at The Strand will have the ability to put their homes

into a rental pool managed by The Strand. The new three-bedroom villas are great for owners looking to maximize rental income. Each villa is capable of renting as three separate lock-off suites each complete with three oceanfront bedroom suites directly overlooking the ocean with magnificent views.” Renters will have access to all the same resort amenities as residents, excluding access to the club boats.

After a day of fun in the sun, residents can return to their luxe abodes and enjoy a la carte club services including in-home spa sessions, housekeeping, shopping services, a private chef and catering, airport transport, landscaping maintenance, and security. For those who travel to the island and find themselves particularly struck with artistic inspiration, The Strand even has its own, unique artist-in-residence program.

This residential resort further distinguishes itself from other developments on the island as it is the fi rst ultra-luxury community with such an unprecedented level of sustainability. The Strand, in collaboration with solar and energy integration company Renu Energy TCI, offers solar packages on all their villas. As The Strand resides on an undeveloped stretch of protected coastline, the property looks preserve the land for generations to come. Fair caps, “Emphasizing sustainability is critical to good stewardship of this magnificent property. As a legacy development, we have that responsibility for the next hundred years or so.”

The Strand expects to make its first homesites available mid 2023, and the project is slated for completion by 2025. EQ.

A press statement reported “$45 million in reservations and constracts,” evidence that many are leaping at the idea of owning the picturesque views on The Strand’s Cooper Jack Bay.

Imagine the design, engineering, and décor hurdles that confronted the team of visionaries crafting Aman New York. Tasked with the nearinsurmountable challenge of bringing the Aman brand’s iconic peace and tranquility to one of earth’s most electric cities was the superblygifted partnership of the Aman brand and Denniston Architects’ Jean-Michel Gathy. Along with seamlessly melding vibrancy with serenity, the partners were empowered with balancing an array of additional countervailing forces.

From the start, it was agreed Aman New York would need to be ancient, yet at the same time modern. Its design needed to meld elements both historic and contemporary. The hotel was required to be able to showcase not just the natural, but the man-made. Influences both countrified and urban, and at once Asian and Western, were also to co-exist within the exquisite confines that would be Aman New York.

The partners’ ability to successfully pull off this design legerdemain stands among the hospitality industry’s most stunning achievements of recent years. That’s especially so when one considers Aman New York’s setting within one of Manhattan’s most storied early 20th century edifices, the iconic Crown Building at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue.

Designed by Warren & Wetmore and erected 101 years ago, the Crown Building combines a neo-Classical exterior with French Renaissance detailing to render it one of North America’s most stupendous exemplars of BeauxArts architecture.

GLIMMERING FINIAL

Years of painstaking craftsmanship by Aman and Gathy have produced a quicksilver metamorphosis of the Crown Building, a renewal that leaves not the smallest detail untouched. Beneath its eponymous golden fi nial, the Crown Building is transformed into an extraordinary hostelry showcasing 83 hotel suites and 22 branded residences. Perhaps most remarkably, a 25,000-square-foot Aman Spa confers the peacefulness of its Sanskrit-derived name, yet paradoxically does so within “the city that never sleeps.”

Nowhere are the charming contrasts of Aman New York more evident than in the 14th floor’s sprawling double-height atrium.

A pillared place of soaring spaciousness, the atrium actually manages to imbue its smaller, clubby confines with an inimitable intimacy. Cozy fireplaces beckon imbibers into the bar lounge for creatively-concocted cocktails. From there, it’s mere steps to the adjacent garden terrace, a 7,000-square-foot outdoor space that extends to the structure’s 57th Street and Fifth Avenue façade’s edge, and whose retractable glass roof helps make al fresco dining a yearround enjoyment.

ORIGIN SOURCED

What might be termed the crowning achievement of the Crown Building’s remarkable transmutation may be the unveiling of Aman New York’s signature restaurant concept.

In either of its restaurants, Arva and Nama, enthralled diners savor a culinary experience founded on ingredients sourced at their origins, along with flavors that transport one’s sense of taste to an entirely different place and time.

“Following the success of the multiaward-winning Aman Tokyo, our strategy to bring the coveted Aman lifestyle to urban destinations continues apace,” said Vlad Doronin, chairman and CEO of Aman. “A milestone opening, Aman New York marks our greatest investment into a single destination to date. The hotel introduces an entirely new concept to the city through expansive and unmatched amenities, which propels the brand forward, delivering a guest experience like no other.”

Aman New York has been said by some to be “simultaneously an escape and a gathering place.” It’s a fitting encomium for this phenomenal auberge, which manages in a singular setting to combine a seemingly infi nite number of splendid contrasts. EQ.
