NASHVILLE, TN: In a city known primarily for its „hot chicken“ and „meat and three sides,“ chefs are helping to transform Nashville into a new culinary powerhouse, along the lines of Charleston, with all the requisite James Beard nominations and placements on top American restaurant lists. On the other end of the spectrum, buzzy food trucks are hitting the streets of hip neighborhoods like East Nashville and The Gulch, the first LEED-certified green neighborhood in the South. WHEN TO GO: Gourmet restaurants and architecture aside, Nashville is still the capital of the country music world. From June 6 through 9, the city will play host to the CMA Music Festival, which attracts a who‘s who of country stars, including Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, and Miranda Lambert. WHERE TO STAY: Don‘t be fooled by its location near the airport: Hotel Preston is much cooler and more refined than an airport hotel has any right to be. Think complimentary pet goldfish, lava lamps on request, and a „spiritual menu“--in lieu of Bibles in the nightstand, you can request any number of holy texts, including the Koran, the Torah, the Book of Mormon, or the Bhagavad Gita. 7. NORTHERN IRELAND: The 6th-century walled city beat out finalists Birmingham, Norwich, and Sheffield, and will spend $25 million in new cultural programs designed to bring in tourism, including performances from the Royal Ballet and the London Symphony Orchestra, a new punk musical, and the premiere of a Sam Shepard play. WHEN TO GO: The U.K. City of Culture program will run throughout 2013, but late March is a particularly rich period. WHEN TO GO: Capital of Culture events are scheduled throughout 2013, but one that shouldn‘t be missed is the Biela Noc, or White Night, on October 5, 2013. The program, which started in Paris in 2002 and has since spread across Europe, brings musical performances and art installations out into the streets of Košice well past sunset. WHERE TO STAY: Part of the Historic Hotels of Slovakia association, the Hotel Bankov dates back to 1869, making it the country‘s oldest surviving hotel. The onsite restaurant serves Slovak specialties, such as roasted quail with leek fondue. 9. BORACAY ISLAND, THE PHILIPPINES: As tourism from east Asia and the United States grows each year, the white-sand beaches of this southeast Asian archipelago should move from your bucket list to your see-it-before-it‘s-overrun list--especially since Royal Caribbean made its first call to Boracay in October. WHEN TO GO: January to May is typically the best weather, but unless you‘re keen to celebrate Easter with thousands of other tourists, skip Holy Week (March 24 to 31 in 2013), when major cities are packed with visitors. While heavy rain is always possible here, the second half of the year is typhoon season and best to avoid. WHERE TO STAY: Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center in Boracay offers upscale rooms with kitchenettes, a pool, onsite restaurants, and easy beach access. 10. THE BAHAMAS: The Bahamas remain a favorite “stylish steal” for savvy travelers--just take a look at hotel prices, which fell 2.5 percent from 2011 to 2012 according to the Bahamas Hotels Association. WHEN TO GO: Mild trade winds keep the average temperatures in the 70s and 80s pretty much yearround, but rainy season is May through October, making the islands most hospitable in late fall, winter, and early spring. WHERE TO STAY: Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino, with gorgeous Cable Beach just outside, is a good home base for exploring Nassau and New Providence Island. Three bars and four restaurants (including the Black Angus Grille, serving steaks and seafood) are onsite, and the casino offers table games and slots. Suites with balconies are available but you‘re probably going to be happier hitting the sand and surf.

In The Fast Lane With Twista By: Ozze Brown
“I try to switch up my rap
patterns and not put too much of the same patterns in one song.
Ozzie: Good afternoon, my name is Ozzie and I will be conducting your interview for Erbane Galore Magazine. How are you doing today? Twista: It’s a nice day in my city, so I feel good. Ozzie: Great! We‘re going to just jump right into this; Tell me how did it feel when you made music history as becoming the first rapper from the “Windy City” to sink a major label deal? Twista: Really, to be honest it was a new feeling, a new foreign feeling. I was excited about it and I really didn’t recognize what I had accomplished as far as being the first major artist to come out of the city until like a few years later. So when I look back at it I realize what I did and was proud of it. But I definitely felt like I was before my time a little bit though. Ozzie: On your official website Twista.com, you say “you’re more than just a hip hop star,” when you say that what do you mean? Twista: I would probably have to hear more of the conversation of what I was talking about. What I think off top as far as a hip hop star, I don’t know what subject I was talking about. I don’t know if I was talking about lyrics or I don’t know if I was talking about me as a person. Ozzie: It was more on the terms of as a whole. Do you consider yourself tied to just that lane or do you see yourself as a brand or a business? Twista: I definitely see myself as more of a brand of that sort. You know, I was coming out doing my thing doing then everybody was like man he got that style. Then people indentified Twista with a fast rapping style. The songs I make for the ladies and the things I do in that fashion. So as far as me becoming more of a brand things like that; I think it’s me dabbling a little more into the fashion. My whole look that would bring a little more of that on. Ozzie: Rappers in today‘s world talk mostly about the same thing such as money, cars,
clothes, and women. How would you say you stand out from the rest? Twista: Well to me even though a lot of artists talk about the same thing, I read a quote from Will.i.am one day and he was talking about how some rappers talk get stuck with lyrics and he was like it’s not really about trying to find something new to say all the time. It’s about how you say it, that‘s different from the way somebody else said it. So I’m with you if everybody wants to rap about it, I mean just because somebody else rapped about a fast car or nice chain, man, I might want to rap about mines too! So for me it’s all about the swag you put on it and the way you express it. I think in that aspect it makes you sound different in that way. Like going a little further I believe the deal with me is my rap patterns, I try to switch up my rap patterns and not put too much of the same patterns in one song; The certain things I talk about, I use a few wacky words, a little terminology that a lot of people don’t use. I think people can hear it when they listen to it (rapping a verse from a previous song) you know with my whole lil swang and twang I put on it. So I think I got a little original vibe when it comes to rappers being out there. Ozzie: Twista, you’ve been in the game for awhile now and with these young rap artists coming into the industry today taking it over by storm with just one hit, would you say that a lot of talent today is overrated? Twista: Mmmm, that’s a good question! I wouldn’t say overrated because I think talent is hard to define sometimes and I think when a person is lyrically gifted they do something that is a little over the top. I believe when that when people have that lyricism they tend to think that a person doesn’t have as much talent. But how do you know that persons talent isn‘t swag itself? Like, it’s other things that would be considered as talent and to me, how you come off to people is apart of having a talent. Sometimes that will stand out over lyricism. I think people judge people unfairly when they talk about that. When I look at the young cats do it, maybe its not a lot of word
play in what they’re doing and how they’re doing it but it’s a lot of people loving them. I try to look for what it is about that artist that makes people want to gravitate towards them. and when I find it, I always say “now that’s the talent right there! So basically to make a long story short, no I’m not a hater. Ozzie: In 2009 you launched a record label called Get Money Gang (GMG), do you have any artist that the viewers should be on the lookout for? Twista: Definitely, definitely I‘m working with a few people. I‘ve been telling people a lot about my homie Mello coming out of the city of Chicago on the Southside, I got my man Showtime, he’s coming out with a bunch of records that he’s doing. We’ve got the other company called “We Mean Business Entertainment,” that’s under GMG headed by my man DJ Victorious out of Chicago. DJ Victorious is one of the top DJs for all of the new artists you hear coming out of Chicago. He’s definitely one of the guys I see doing his thing pretty soon and launching his label, it’s going to be big GMG is going to be big. You’re going to see a lot of things happening in a couple of years. Ozzie: What kinds of things are do look for in an artist? Twista: The ability to carry themselves, not just be so dependent on the label. A lot of times you have guys who expect to develop ranks from the bottom to the top. Like in the way that Jermaine Durpi did when he grabbed Kris Kross. At this stage of my career everything is moving so fast I think I’m more of a business man when it comes to the label in that aspect. I‘m looking for an artist that has some type of self-containment, someone that’s at that midpoint where they‘re doing things themselves to the point that it’s gotten them to a certain extent where everybody is paying attention but they just need that extra step to get over the hump. That’s when GMG and Twista come in. So basically you’ve got to be on your business a little bit and be able to carry yourself somewhat before I even think about touching you or getting it in with you.
Ozzie: Also I saw on your website that you want to show everyone that you’re not just a rapper but a businessman as well. Would you say that you’re excelling in that profession? Twista: Yes definitely, definitely. I’m getting into a lot of different things. It hard to keep up with business and the rap side because sometimes you try to concentrate on the music. You’ve got to deal with demos, contracts, phone calls and stuff like that so it’s hard but at the same time I love it. I love the whole idea of sitting down at the desk writing names on checks. Ozzie: Known for once holding the title of fastest rapper in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records in 1992. Would you say you still hold the title? Twista: Probably not in the book, I would say it just the natural way I do it. Jordan doesn’t hold that title of dunking any more but when you think about art of dunking Michael Jordan is the first name that comes up. So when it comes to the fast rap style that’s how I look at myself, like a Michael Jordan. Ozzie: You’re known for collaborations with R&B and rap heavyweights such as Yo Gotti, Raekwon, Lloyd, and Chris Brown. Are you planning on working with more world known artist in the future as well as the ones I’ve named? Twista: Yes, definitely, I’m always working with and talking to some of the guys about doing music when we run across each other. We always have that mutual respect for each other so definitely, I know I will be doing music with some people in the future. You never know who it may be so it’s crazy like that but I definitely look forward to different things and kind of stepping out of the box a little from the norm. Look for me to do music with people you definitely wouldn’t expect. Ozzie: I saw that you also have an official online store from your website as well that carries apparel, merchandise and music all under one roof how is that going for you?
Twista: It’s going pretty good, the family is doing pretty well. One of my homies like I said earlier, DJ Victorious his guy DJ Bam got a whole clothing line that he’s putting with his campaign and I’m trying to link up with him. I’ve got my man DJ Shawn Mac, he’s got his clothing line called Casket. I want to see him progress as well, it’s not just about me coming out with the clothing line it’s also about me linking up with the people that I have around me that are going into that direction. I like all the fly stuff and the name brand stuff but if it was up to me, I’d wear clothes from the people around me all year ‘round. That’s what it’s about for me. Ozzie: In your bio on your website, you say you answer to no one but your fans and your instincts. So would you say that a lot of your success comes from your fans? Twista: Definitely, it comes from all around. It comes from my hard work and dedication, everything that the label does; but it starts with the fans. I think that we kind of get away from that a lot but we gotta realize that at the end of the day the fans are the most important part of what you’re doing to become big. Ozzie: Being that you’ve been in the game for 16+ years do you have anything to say to the young artists that are trying to make a name for themselves in the industry? Twista: Man, if I was to tell another artist anything I’d say take it and ride it to the end. Things are so different like the artist are able to do what they want to do now because of computers and technology. They’re able to promote and able to push themselves a lot easier. I’d also say take advantage of what they’ve already been taking advantage of because it’s the fact that they don’t need to beg anybody anymore to put their video out or put their interviews out or to do anything in that matter because of how technologyis today. Lastly, I’d say take advantage of how the way the industry is now opposed to the way it was when I was getting in the game because the doors are wide open. You can do you, be you, and feed your family and do what you gotta do to make a positive impact in it. Just
ride the wave out to the fullest, that’s what I would say. Ozzie: You have a new single out right now called A.D.I.D.A.S., is that correct? Twista: Yes Ozzie: What was the inspiration for the song and title? Twista: It was really just about me loving fly shoes and loving things that’s fly around me. It started with us being in the studio chillin’ out one day and one of my homies Big Heavy was like, “Man Twista you wearing some fly Adidas and he started helping me come up with the hook for my A.D.I.D.A.S. joint. We just started going in, talking about stepping out the phantom in my Adidas, things like that. It instantly made me think about Run DMC because I’m always listening to my old hip hop. I’m like man it’s like the reincarnation of the Run DMC guys, I just wanted to bring that Twista vibe to the whole mentality that Run DMC had when they came out. Ozzie: You’re preparing for the release of your next album that drops this year called The Dark Horse, what should your fans be looking forward to when it drops? Twista: New Twista music, you know that’s the main thing I would say it’s new Twista music. Like understanding a fan is important to me so I dabble in it a little just to let them hear how I sound doing it but for the most part people just want to hear new Twista music spit that fast sh*t, talk about smoking, talk about those females, talk about that hood sh*t, spit that Twista sh*t, chiming the way we did when we was riding bumping to that screwed. I know exactly what the fans want to hear from me so I’ma give them so new Twista sh*t. I’ma have some good features, good music, legendary Trackstar Productions everything that you are use to and everything that you want to hear from Twista will be on the album. Ozzie: What was it like working with
R.Kelly, being that the both of you are Chicago natives. Twista: I always feel like Im working with a genius. That’s the thing I say when I work with Kelz because it’s always scary when working with him. When I work with other artists, I feel like I’m on their level but when I work with Kelz it feels like I‘m working with a legend. So with that being said, I always try to bring my A game and give it my best, he’s real cool. He’s always just like real natural, laid back cool just that regular Chicago vibe. It’s nothing real out of the box when we are in the studio, it’s like the studio is all about having fun and making music but for me it’s like watching a genius at work. So that’s how the vibe is with the big homie. Ozzie: Do you have any other upcoming events for 2013 that the viewers should know about? Twista: Dark Horse album is going to be coming out this summer so I’m going to be out touring a lot letting the people get to see me. It’s not about touring to make money, it‘s about promotion and making everybody aware of the GMG movement and how we rolling in Chicago. Really the biggest thing I would say is lookout for the tours on the Dark Horse project, also make sure to look out for my man Victorious with his “We Mean Business” thing. Checkout Gutta the Gutta Man with his “Gutta Mob” whole and my man B Hype, Showtime, my singers on the label, my man Chris, my man Dre. Overall just look forward to everybody I got coming out on the label. Everybody is raw and we gone have fun with it! Ozzie: Will your tour dates be on your website? Twista: Yep, you’ll be able to see where I’m going, log on to Twista.com.

It is clear that the star is more than just an actress, a singer and beautiful, she is also an entrepreneur and her ultimate goal is to live out her passion in film directing and to land a major role with NBC, ABC and to even have her own network. “Then,” she says “I will have arrived.” Check out more of Ms. Karlie Redd on the upcoming season of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, beginning April 22nd.

arlie Redd is one of the cast members of the reality show “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta”. Karli Redd is not only a cast member but suggests there is a lot more to her than her fans truly know. When asked “who is Karli Redd?” She replied, “Karli Redd is not only the girl you see in Love and Hip Hop, but I have been in the industry for years.” Karli has appeared in movies, television shows, radio and commercials, to include Dark and Lovely and at least 3 other reality shows where she was the only “black actress”. Karli appreciates that she has more of a “black” fan base and states “I love my fan base”. She boasts at her love for talking to her fans and she is proud that she is “supporting her own”. While Karlie is lighting up the stage in Atlanta, it’s no secret that she spent most of her childhood in Trinidad. As a matter of fact she exclaims, “I just came back in February!” She explains, “When I go to Trinidad, it’s like, look at me, and I love that!” Karlie further states “I love my country and I am not ashamed”. To add to the many endeavors of The Love and Hip Hop Star, she has also been a part of Trinidad’s “Queen of the Nile” and “Carnival” to name a few. Karlie loves the idea of connecting with her audience and fans. Although she seems like your fantasy “best friend” from Love and Hip Hop, she wants her fans to know that “I have industry time, and I graduated with my degree in film making”. She is proud of her accomplishments and wants to encourage her fans to “Go get it!” When asked what did she mean by this she replied “Go to school, you can do both, I did!” She states “While I was in school, I would still go to auditions”. “Never give up, don’t stop, always have a plan B and EXECUTE” are all words of encouragement Karlie offers to her followers. Love and Hip Hop fans know that Karlie Redd is no stranger to beauty. Her butterscotch skins, long beautiful hair, not to mention her “bad” shape is all eye catchers. However, the male Love and Hip Hop fans of Karli Redd would be pleased to know that when asked, “Are you single?” Karlie replied “Yes, I am single”. Whew! Men, hold on to your hats, because I sure was blown away at her answer. Karlie goes on to say, “Guys try to hit on me, but I don’t just go after any person who may hit on me, I want to settle down and have a serious relationship”. This may come as a shock to her fans but Karlie is just like the rest of us, she is a normal girl, with reasonable expectations and extraordinary dreams. wThis leads us to ask a “big question” because being a part of “Love and Hip Hop” we know that music is an important quality and characteristic of Karlie Redd. When asked, “Are you working on a CD and when will it drop?” She replied, “Yes, my cd will drop soon; music is in my blood”. Karlie states she is currently working with Diamond Lane Music and the Group Fellas Label and music is what keeps her inspired. She states, “right now, I just need a hit”. Rapping and Caribbean Music is where it all started for the Love and Hip Hop star. She later branched off to Hip Hop and R&B, while she was being raised in the Bronx. On her current CD you can expect work with artist/producers such as T-Pane and Shawn Kingston to name a few. Finally, while watching Love and Hip Hop is hardly impossible to notice this stars beautiful, long hair as she switches in and out during the premiere. Fans are dying to know about Ms. Redds’ hairline, if it’s still active and where can her fans find her products. While Ms. Redd is confident about her hair line she replies “my hair is naturally long and beautiful, but I have no problem using my own products, and no one can tell the difference”. However, if

“Never give up, don’t stop, always have a plan B and EXECUTE!”
In a scandal-prone culture ripe with selfinterested publicists, bipolar stylists, and stage moms disguised as agents and managers, it‘s especially refreshing to meet a pair of entrepreneurs poised to conquer the fashion and entertainment industries with as much humility and hospitality as they have style and ambition. At first glance, you‘d never imagine that friends Demarcus Thomas and Jessica Harris, the magnetic duo behind D&J Entertainment, have barely known each other for a full year. Despite meeting at a hectic job they shared with dozens of additional coworkers, the chemistry between the two business partners is electric and infectious. It‘s a brother-andsister-like energy that hints at a relationship deeper than mere business. Their ability to combine their unique tastes and personalities shows in a professional body of work that is expanding at a forceful pace. In just a matter of months, D&J have made accomplishments that people twice their age are just getting started on. While working together in a role far less chal-
lenging (or glamorous) than they would prefer, Demarcus and Jessica discovered they had much more in common than their Dallas, Texas roots. Both are former students of Fashion, have a love affair with music and culture, and were feeling a nagging discomfort for having their creative capabilities hoarded by a 9-to-5. Though they‘re just old enough to drink legally, they have a collective knowledge and outlook that has garnered the attention of a diverse talent roster, from young R&B prodigy David Le Prince
and L2 Boyz, the Pop/R&B duo Le Prince forms with his younger brother, to up-and-coming artists like Corbin Corona, and Deek ‚Da Greedy Boy,“ whose music is a piece of a larger movement dubbed “New Generation,” a style more in line with the social and political messages of Tupac‘s work.
It‘s clear from talking to the young CEOs that D&J Entertainment doesn‘t actually place a priority on evolving its own business — as their web address witnesstheevolution.com might lead us to believe — but instead on helping clients evolve in fashion and music to achieve great success regardless
4. Try out vibrant color. Just as you‘re probably more likely to wear a vivid top or carry a bright bag this season, now‘s the perfect time to play up your makeup palette. Besides looking summery, livelier colors brighten the face and bring a youthful glow to skin. If you tend to stick with neutrals, experiment with just one area of your face. 5. Switch out thick lipsticks. Since heavy lip colors often feel like overkill once the weather warms up, many women opt for clear balm or skip their lips altogether. 8 SUMMER MAKEUP TIPS
1. Make time for primer. You won‘t regret the few seconds it will take to smooth on a primer, which goes on after moisturizer but before face makeup. Like house-paint primer, it provides a smooth base for whatever goes on next. 2. Lighten your face makeup. Just as you switch to breezy skirts and linen blouses, dress your face with lighter makeup. First step: Swap foundation for tinted moisturizer. These sheer formulas look and feel airier on skin and are less likely to turn cakey on steamy days. 3. Bronze believably. Bronzer makes your eyes look brighter, your teeth whiter — everyone looks better with a little warmth added to their skin. To keep the results looking fresh and natural, apply bronzer just to the high points of your face, where the sun naturally hits you: forehead, cheekbones, chin, and nose.
