JURNI RAYNE J

urni Rayne is not your average Adult Contemporary vocalist/artist. This Dallas, Texas native has a great sound and unique flair. Do not judge a book by its cover because this anomaly of a diva will have you melting over the the sultry sounds of her voice and the depth of her lyrics. Jurni Rayne is well versed in guitar piano and flute, however, it is the voice that pulls everything together.Jurni Rayne’s father, Louis

James Butler is a renowned blues guitarist who introduced her to music at the tender age of 4. She developed an early love for music as a result of her father’s influence. Jurni Rayne’s mother, Eugenia Butler, started a strong foundation by getting her involved in the arts at a young age. Beginning with tap, ballet and jazz dance classes at the age of 4 and piano lessons at the age of 10. Eugenia has been Jurni’s moral support for everything that she was involved in and continues to nurture her talents by being the backbone of her support system. Jurni Rayne’s brother, Andre Butler, also known as Dre Emcee, is in entertainment management and has featured Jurni Rayne on a couple of collaborations. Jurni Rayne studied Spanish and Hospitality and became a restaurant manager. She did what she felt society deemed right,

which was go to school, get a degree and a career. She sings in the title song. Finding My Way, “Got my degree/And a career for me/But deep down I wasn’t happy/Then suddenly/I couldn’t breathe/ And I just had to leave.” She continued her “hobby” of music, until her passion for it was too much to bear. She then realized that music was her true calling and hospitality was her “hobby.” While music is important to Jurni Rayne, it is equally important for her for her to be an OUT lesbian artist. Jurni Rayne feels that your race socioeconomic background, “hood“ sexual prefe-rence does not define the person or the talent.

Because Rayne fem-

Jurni is a inine identified lesbian, it would be easy for her to pretend to be heterosexual or, from the advice of many, just keep silent and let people make whatever assumptions they would like to make. Jurni Rayne is taking a stand against “hiding” by intertwining her lyrics and her lifestyle without fear or regret. From “Con versations with Love,” a song about loving a woman to “Genderf***,” which was writ ten for masculine identified lesbians and feminine gay men, Jurni Rayne stands up for justice in all forms. Jurni Rayne’s ultimate goal is to become an acclaimed LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) lyricist/vocalist.

The movie Pastor Brown was filmed in Atlanta in 2009 and stars Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Nicole Ari Parker, Ernie Hudson, Tisha CampbellMartin, and Grammy award winning singers Monica, and Angie Stone. Pastor Brown, written by Rhonda F. Baraka and directed by Rockmond Dunbar, finally made its television debut on the Lifetime movie network Saturday, February 16, 2013. Pastor Brown’s starring character Jessica (Jessie) played by Salli RichardsonWhitfield, is an exotic dancer, who decides to return back home for the first time in over a decade after receiving news of her fathers unexpected terminal illness. Her father’s wish is that Jessica takes over as head pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church, which is their family’s church. Despite her numerous critics who are familiar with her non-approvable past and current lifestyle as an exotic dancer, Jessie decides to accept her father’s request. Eventually not only does Jessie embark upon a course that changes her entire world, but she is also able to reconnect with her family and her teenage son who is being raised by her sister Tonya, who is played by Nicole Ari-Parker. Film writer Rhonda F. Baraka has been in the film industry since 2008. She began with her first film production on her film Pastor Brown. Baraka, a mother of two (12 year old daughter and 10 year old son) is beyond elated that her film, Pastor Brown is being played on the air waves. “This has been a long time in the making,” Baraka states. Baraka was also able to get her son some face time in the film, by playing a child of a homeless woman in the movie Pastor Brown. Baraka states that it only took two weeks to write the original script. “I

became so immersed in the story,” Baraka states. Baraka has the ideas of being creative and inspiring all at once. Baraka’s creative ways of thinking goes back to childhood. “As a child, I was always creating things, and if I didn’t understand something, I would imagine how it worked.” “I think that as artists we are extremely gifted and diverse in many ways.” Baraka states that the movie Pastor Brown is about reconnecting with that part of you that is pure and good and also having the courage to let that person shine through. While writing this story, Baraka tried to strip the words of the bible down to their simplest form so that people could see that words have a major meaning. Baraka also stated that she enjoyed working with Director Rockmond. “He was very respectful of me and my work and I am so proud and grateful to him for the job he did on this film.” Baraka is also very much pleased with the chosen actors and actresses and feels that each individual was able to live through their roles while acting out their assigned roles. Baraka’s next project in the making is “Looking for Jimmy Lee” which will star Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari-Parker.

My left arm is my favorite because it‘s a sleeve dedicated to my granny who battled cancer and survived. The left side of my arm is a cover up of a tiger that represents strength, endurance, & courage! My right arm reads „defend your heart,“ I believe a person should always keep their guard up, you don‘t wanna just let every and anybody in. Some people are not who they say they are... My wrist reads Philippians 4:13, my favorite scripture and everyday motivation!

The Star on my left & right outside legs, are the most meaningful tattoos on my whole body. Star Life means the life I live with my family... We live life with a certain air about ourselves. We see ourselves as Kings and Superstars living the Star Life.

The tattoo on my ear is a True Religion tatt and means stay true. Any and everything I do I‘m committed to it. The rose with the script says one life to live. It symbolizes life because life is beautiful and so is a rose.

The green cross with Rip Unc means alot to me because I got it when my closest uncle passed away a few years ago.

The basketball with the heart around it is my favorite because it shows the love that I have for basketball.

The Sit Down With Ms. Georgia Peach “Rasheeda” By: Tonya Richardson

“Understand that a lot of doors are gonna close and doors are going to open, focus on being you, don’t focus on trying to be somebody else because we already got them, you know we cool on them, we’re looking for the new. “

Atlanta hip hop rapper, Rasheeda began her career as an adolescent when two of her friends along with herself formed a hip-hop girl group Da Kaperz. A year later, Rasheeda began her solo career and soon dropped her album Dirty South through D-Lo and Motown Records. Along with her rapping career, she is also featured on the VH1 reality show Love and Hip Hop Atlanta. I had the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Georgia Peach’s finest, and her fans are in for a treat. How did you come into your career as a rapper and did you know rapping was your thing? “When I was young, I just loved music and I started off in this rap group called Da Kaperz.” “We were three girls who just loved to rap and did it as a hobby and danced around and just be crazy, but after a while we started to take it seriously and really started going in and making records and eventually we caught the attention of a few labels.” “We caught the attention of Frost who I’m still signed with today (he’s my husband), who was starting his label and we ended up dropping an album back in the day and after we did that for a couple of years, everyone started going in there different directions and I wanted to be a solo artist so I just kept it moving and came out with my first single “Do It” Featuring Pastor Troy back in 2000 and I’ve just been going ever since.” How did your family feel about your career? “They were supportive because they knew that I was dedicated to it, they’ve always been supportive about things that they know I take seriously and never would try to defer me to do anything different, just to follow my goals and dreams and it’s a blessing for them to continue to support me like they do.”

So who are your music Icons? “I have a couple, musically I’m a super humongous Kanye West fan, Jay Z fan, Beyonce fan, Andre 3000 is dope to me, I know he hasn’t put anything out in a long time but you can do that when you‘re dope like that.” “I think Neyo is an amazing writer, he comes out with great records.” “I like The Weeknd, I think his voice is just stupid crazy, like I can’t wait for him to drop an album. Rihanna’s dope and her new album is dope, this is the first time I’ve listened to Rihanna like I am, the whole album, she did that!” Besides being a rapper, Rasheeda is also a mother of one birthed son, and four step children. “Everybody’s supportive and they see how hard I work and I try to instill that into them, nothing’s ever been given to me, it’s all about working hard and going after your goals and dreams and staying focused and staying determined and the one thing that I love about myself is that I’m driven and very motivated and persistent and that’s what as a parent you should want to instill in your kids; to go hard and not be lazy and play with stuff and expect to get a bunch of money and to be rich and to do all the things and not work hard for it, so that’s more of a lesson that I want them to see and they see that and say “hey you’ve done this for a certain amount of years.” This is how we live; we’re able to live like this because of what my husband and I do so it’s a great thing.” We all know that being a woman in the rap game, there will always be comparisons, and hypocrites, but Rasheeda is lucky to not have received a whole lot of comparisons. Instead she states that some people might say that Nicki Minaj is mainstream and she‘s not, but you got to understand that her path is hers and Rahseeda’s path is Rahseeda’s so that’s how it is and people need to understand that there are struggles of being a woman.

“Just because a person sits on television and tells a story doesn’t mean they’re telling the truth and everybody wanted to be like “oh Rasheeda you’re wrong, you’re fake.” No, I’m real....

For those upcoming rappers, Rasheeda knows that it‘s difficult for beginners because they will make mistakes, “because every move damn sure ain’t gonna be the right move.” She gives the advice that the most important thing that individuals need to do is try to surround themselves around a good team. “Staying true to yourself and understanding that it’s the music “business” like understanding the “business,” if you need to read a book, if you need to go buy a DVD, do something so that you can understand the business part of it because that’s where a lot of the problems come in.” Being able to take corrective criticism but understand that there will be haters, at the same time don’t let anybody stop you from going after your goals and your dreams, just stay focused is another piece of advice she likes to give to the up and coming rappers. “Understand that a lot of doors are gonna close and doors are going to open, focus on being you, don’t focus on trying to be somebody else because we already got them, you know we cool on them, we’re looking for the new. “ How did you become a part of the Love and Hip Hop series? “The show was coming to Atlanta and decided that they wanted to make Atlanta the next spot and my name came up and a few people actually reached out to them.” “Missy was like “ y‘all doing Atlanta, y‘all need to holla at Rasheeda,” and even my friend Kandi did the same thing and of course I was like “how y‘all gonna come to Atlanta and not holla at the Georgia Peach?” “What the hell’s up, come on now it’s Love & Hip Hop, that’s me and I’m married.” “Some people didn’t even know that and that’s one of the reasons that I got the opportunity because there is no married couple on Love & Hip Hop period and my life is exactly that.” “I’m a female Hip Hop artist who’s in love, who’s managed by her husband who lives that life; it was a perfect fit.” On one of the segments, it displayed you

confronting K. Michelle about your friend Memphitz. Why did you feel so eager to confront her? “Well I didn’t feel eager to confront her because I didn’t even confront her about it until later on down the line and the total bottom line about it was that I didn’t initially want to be the type of person to be like” “Well I’m not messing with you because of what you said.” Because I felt like that’s not fair because nobody really knows the real situation but I do know that she’s crazy as hell! That I do know, so at the end of the day I felt like let me build my own relationship. My thing was she knew where I was coming from, she understood my relationship with them so I was feeling like I don’t want to talk about this all the time and don’t pressure the issue keep it pushing because I’m already dealing with you out of I’m trying to be cool so let’s not keep talking about it all the time. You know let it be what it is, it’s about 4 or 5 years old move on, he has, keep it pushing. I mean go sing, you’ve got a great voice, do your thing. But I guess the fact that I did say something and wasn’t a person that was saying “oh I feel so bad for you” because that’s a serious issue and for somebody like her and her mind set and her mind state, she knows that; she knows that that’s automatic sympathy so I felt like, if you’re going to try to rip somebody apart like that, be truthful about what you’re saying but at the end of the day I didn’t even say anything, I said “maybe he ain’t apologizing because it’s something he didn’t do, it’s a possibility. Just because a person sits on television and tells a story doesn’t mean they’re telling the truth and everybody wanted to be like “oh Rasheeda you’re wrong, you’re fake.” No, I’m real because I know a lot of things that doesn‘t make any sense, that girl done did and that girl done said and because I’m the one that said something, I gotta be fake; No, everybody needs to understand

that a person can lie in a heartbeat, there was no proof out there for us to say he lying or she lying, whatever. So I’m just the person who said “ok who’s to say you‘re telling the truth, who’s to say he’s not telling the truth?” So that’s really the scenario with it and she got mad and lashed out and I feel like as a woman, if you’re a victim, how you gone get mad at everybody that don’t agree with you? And if you’re a victim, how you gonna want to fight everybody on the show? In real life, like for real. But we done, that chapter is over with and she just need to get a life. In her spare time, she likes going out to dinner or catching a movie, however the last movie that she saw in a movie theatre was Men in Black. “I just like to relax, if I can just chill, maybe go get a massage, manicure and pedicure, and have a little me time always works.” Rasheeda is still grinding and making things happen. Currently she is still doing shows and pushing the Boss Chick music album that was dropped in 2012. She is also working on new material that will drop in the middle of 2013. Rasheeda is in different cities frequently performing, promoting, and hosting all the time. In addition to rapping, and filming Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, she is also working on a hair line, being a motherwww and a wife and continuing to grow. She does have a website www.imbossy.com, which has various apparel and accessories available.

Obama, Chinese President Discuss North Korea & Hacking

North Korea Planning on Launching A Forth Nuclear Test

President Obama spoke by phone Thursday with new Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, a discussion that apparently touched on allegations of hacking by the Chinese against U.S. businesses. In a discussion of expanded trade, Obama cited “protection of intellectual property rights,“ said a White House readout of the phone call with Xi. “In this context, the president highlighted the importance of addressing cybersecurity threats, which represent a shared challenge.“ Said the readout. Xinhua, a Chinese government-run new agency, also said the two leaders discussed cybersecurity as well as the dispute between North and South Korea, economic cooperation and other issues.

North Korea appears to be preparing a fourth nuclear test, but South Korean officials have played down earlier reports the tests were imminent. A top South Korean official says he misspoke in mentioning “indication“ of North Korea nuclearsite work following reports reports of stepped up activity at its main atomic test site. Earlier, Ryoo Kihl-Jae told a parliamentary committee hearing there were “signs“ of an upcoming nuclear test. A South Korean government source had earlier tipped off the Joong Ang Daily newpaper that the North was preparing the site.

“Xi expressed China‘s principles and positions on those issues,“ Xinhua reported. China has denied American allegations of computer hacking. As for Korea, the White House said Obama “highlighted the threat to the United States, its allies, and the region from North Korea‘s nuclear and missile programs and stressed the need for close coordination with China to ensure North Korea meets its de-nuclearization commitments.“ The phone call took place shortly after Xi -- already the head of China‘s Communist Party and of its military -took the largely ceremonial title of president. “This is a very important relationship,“ said White House spokesman Jay Carney. The White House readout said that Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew would visit China next week and that Secretary of State John Kerry would travel there in the coming weeks.

This comes on the heels of the South’s defence ministry reports that Pyongyang could perform a mid-range missile test-launch by Wednesday – also the deadline it has given to foreign diplomats to evacuate, as their safety would reportedly no longer be guaranteed by the government. “We have detected increased activity of labor forces and vehicles at the southern tunnel of the test site in Punggye-ri, where the regime has worked on maintenance for facilities since its third nuclear test in February,” a high-ranking South Korean government official said. “The activities appear to be similar to those before the third test, so we are closely monitoring the site.“ Japan will shoot down any missile. Meanwhile, Japan has ordered its armed forces to shoot down any North Korean missile headed towards its territory, a defence ministry spokesman said Monday as speculation grows Pyongyang may fire one this week.

First Lady Michelle Obama plans a trip back home to Chicago to speak against Youth Violence. “The greatest thing we can do as a city is give our children the support they need to build a successful life. There are proven and successful programs that are creating a brighter future for some of our most vulnerable children in every neighborhood, and people from all corners of our city are stepping up to invest in them,” said Mayor Emanuel in a release. “We are honored to have the First Lady’s support in this effort. I will work tirelessly to provide safe alternatives that reduce the risk of our kids getting involved with drugs, gangs, and violence.”

Victim or Offender? On March 15th, the house of a black Minister from Chesterfield, Virginia was painted over with racial statements and then found in a blaze. The police are now certain that the 41year old minister, Olander D. Cuthrell, is the offender of painting the racial insults onto his home and then setting it on fire. He is now being charged with two separate counts of arson to his home and a car. Sexual Assualt Case COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Condemned killer Steven Smith‘s argument for mercy isn‘t an easy one. Smith acknowledges he intended to sexually assault his girlfriend‘s 6-monthold daughter but says he never intended to kill the baby. The girl, Autumn Carter, of Mansfield, died because Smith was too drunk to realize his sexual assault was killing the child, Smith‘s attorneys planned to tell the Ohio Parole Board on Tuesday. And Ohio law is clear, they say: a death sentence requires an intent to kill the victim. The evidence suggests that Autumn‘s death was a horrible accident,“ his attorneys, Joseph Wilhelm and Tyson Fleming, said in a written argument prepared for the board. They continued: “Despite the shocking nature of this crime, Steve‘s death sentence should be commuted because genuine doubts exist whether he even committed a capital offense.“ Smith, 46, was never charged with sexual assault, meaning the jury‘s only choice was to convict or acquit him of aggravated murder, his attorneys say. The attack happened early in the morning of Sept. 29, 1998, in the Mansfield apartment of the girl‘s mother, Kaysha Frye, a woman Smith had been dating about six months.

Frye was awakened after 3 a.m. by a naked Smith, who placed Autumn beside her in bed, according to records prepared for the parole board hearing. Frye realized the girl wasn‘t breathing, told Smith he‘d killed her, then ran to a neighbor‘s house for help. Smith, known to consume as many as 12 beers a day, had had several beers earlier in the evening and had a blood-alcohol content of .123 — well above the legal limit — when he was tested almost eight hours later, at 11 a.m., records show. Smith had unsuccessfully tried to have sex with his girlfriend the evening before the attack, according to records. The prosecutor argued that Smith‘s assault of the girl was revenge for Smith‘s failure to perform with Frye. Mark Cuban Comments About Drafting Brittney Griner onto the Dallas Mavericks The NBA has been inclusive of the WNBA for years, featuring stars from the women’s league in the All-Star events. However, an NBA team drafting Griner could break down barriers and open up chances for women in all sports, especially if she makes it. The NFL recently made headlines by working out a woman, Lauren Silberman but that ended in failure when Silberman failed to impress scouts and injured herself after only a couple of kicks. Griner, however, is a legitimate prospect. She has the size and ability to play inside the paint that could lead to some success in the NBA. Even if Cuban is looking at this purely from a business standpoint it could open the door to bigger and better things for women in other sports. I think it is fitting that in the year a major motion picture about Jackie Robinson comes out a woman is knocking on the door of the NBA. Griner should be given a chance to play in the NBA if she wants to. The only real hurdle would be a separate dressing room and a private room on the road. Other than that we are advanced enough as a society to accept women, homosexuals, and everyone in between in the sports we watch and most athletes would be accepting of those individuals within the clubhouse. Why not start with Griner and see what she can do on the court. This is a smart move, in both a business and social sense, by Cuban. I just hope he follows through with it.
