Black Women Nonprofit Leaders Forum

MAY 25, 2023

WELCOME!

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural EmpowHer Institute Black Women Nonprofit Leaders Forum!

As EmpowHer embarks on our 20th Anniversary, this forum is so uniquely special and crucial to nurturing and developing leaders in California. The idea for this forum grew out of multiple conversations with impactful Black women executives who were desperately seeking a safe space to convene, network, grow professionally, and heal from the trauma of misogynoir. As a Black women executive myself, I know far too well what this trauma can do to both our mental and physical health as well as our economic stability and advancement.

The day will have much to offer. You will hear from amazing Black women and influencers while also having the opportunity to voice your expertise and knowledge as an equal and valued partner at the table.

We hope you will see the importance of this forum and why it MUST happen right now, at this particular time in Los Angeles. And we hope that you will bravely walk with us as we support one another through this impactful and emotional work. Your voice is crucial to making this forum a success and to building pathways for real change to take place for ourselves and for the many generations that will follow.

Enjoy the forum!

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

APRIL RYAN

Longest-Serving African American Female White House Correspondent in History, White House Correspondent for The Grio, and CNN Political Analyst

In an era of unparalleled polarization in politics and society, April Ryan represents an increasingly rare middle ground committed to upholding the integrity of fact-based journalism. With more than 25 years as a seasoned White House correspondent and political analyst, Ryan has the unique vantage point as the only Black female reporter covering urban issues from the White House — a position she has held since the Clinton era and spanning five presidential administrations. Her historic tenure as the longestserving Black female White House correspondent has afforded her with incredible familiarity with the racial sensitivities, issues, and attendant political struggles of our nation’s past presidents.

Exclusively represented by Leading Authorities speakers bureau, Ryan brings the often-overlooked dynamic of underrepresented groups to the forefront of the conversation as she dissects transformative issues in politics and the news of the day.
