Engine 3066 Now Home at OTC
Engine 3066, an Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) SD40, was recently donated to the OTC Foundation by Progress Rail Services to serve as a training aid for OTC rail programs. Relocating the locomotive from Patterson to OTC required team work. The relocation team included Progress Rail Services, CSX Transportation, Utilco Railroad Services, the OTC Foundation, the City of Waycross, Mediastream, Georgia Power Company, and AT&T. Significant contributions by CSX and Utilco enabled the project to move forward. The locomotive was relocated July 1 - 2. So how many cranes does it take to move a 390,000 lb. locomotive?
(Answer)…six 85-ton cranes, a backhoe, and other pieces of heavy equipment. The locomotive is fully operational, so why didn’t Utilco drive it down the track? (Answer)…better control and safety. At the first opportunity, after the locomotive was in place, Thomas Wesley of OTC cranked it to demonstrate the engine is ready for business. OTC officials would like to thank everyone involved for their contributions and support. Photos and additional information can be found on the OTC Web site and Facebook page.

The current version of the GED test will expire at the end of 2013. The current version, known as the 2002 Series GED test, will be replaced with the new 2014 GED test on January 2, 2014. Those who have taken the 2002 Series GED test, but not passed all five parts, have until the end of 2013 to pass, or they will need to start over again in 2014 with the new GED test. “The GED test opens doors to college, jobs, and the satisfaction of earning a diploma,” said Dr. Glenn Deibert, president of OTC. “So we want to be sure that everyone is aware of this deadline. GED test-takers must act now to finish and pass before the current test expires.” “Support is available, right here at OTC,” said Dr. Steve Pearce, Executive Director of Adult Education. “We can help adult learners get prepared to take the parts of the GED test they still need to pass." “To anyone who has already started the GED test, your future is calling. By passing the GED test, you can answer that call,” said Randy Trask, president and CEO of GED Testing Service. “You owe it to yourself. Don’t miss the chance to turn one small step into your next big opportunity in life.” The GED test has opened doors to better jobs and college programs for more than 18 million graduates since 1942. Last year nearly 800,000 adults sat for the GED test, which is accepted by virtually all U.S. colleges and employers.
