How to make DIY BARBELLS In a previous post [Visit www.LetsGetCrafty.org to get

updated posts] I discussed why I was out of shape and

overweight. Today I’m letting you in on the weight loss journey Big Daddy and I are on. Be forewarned we are fast food junkies specializing in cravings we call “sweet to eat” and this journey might be painful for us but we are focused on what this new life will bring rather than all the things we have to let go of. I want to share our actual weight (gasp!) and invite you to join us or just cheer us on. We’ll need all the motivation you can spare. This isn’t a diet. It isn’t about looking better. Although, thankfully that is a by product of this journey. This is about feeling better and living more in the time we have on this earth.

DIY BARBELLS |LETS GET CRAFTY continued… For most of my life I’d been naturally athletic and thin. I’d never had real issues with my weight, including that irritating rubbing of the inner thighs. But I was weak and I was tired. I look back at pictures of myself and I think, “Why did I ever think I wasn’t skinny enough?” (That answer will be in a later post.) Before I joined the Army, I was wearing the same shorts I wore in junior high school. My body shape and size had not made any significant changes in 15 years. And I was cool with that. Sort of. I was 140 pounds in September 2007 and by the time Big Daddy and I got married in December 2007 I was 135 pounds but with some serious muscle. I was in the best shape I’d ever been.

DIY BARBELLS |Inspire Your Body continued… You might say the honeymoon was over with regard to my weight. After “retiring” from any form of excercise for the last year, I’m faced with a number I’ve never seen…176. So, it’s time for me and Big Daddy to come out of retirement. We want our feel-good days back. Here’s the journey we began just over a week ago. Big Daddy wants to lose 100 pounds and I would like to lose 25 pounds. We’ve adjusted our calorie intake to reflect a weight loss of 2 lbs per week. This is an aggressive goal and one that should pursued with caution. You may want to begin with a goal of losing 1 lb per week. We are both using an app called my fitness pal to track our eating and exercising habits. Myfitnesspal can also be used via your computer but if you have a smartphone, I highly recommend downloading their free app. By the way, they have an app for iPhone, Android, Windows, and BlackBerry.

As you can see, my caloric intake goal per day is 1200! When I realized that I was having burgers with over 2000 calories (thanks Chilis) I really started to understand why I was gaining serious fat. There are tons of options in this app that make it easy for you to monitor all sorts of info. Some cool resources are; what I’m lacking in vitamins, and the amount of sodium in each serving of a particular food. Big Daddy was shocked at his sodium intake (thanks Campbells soup, et al.). And thanks to this new found knowledge, here’s how I fared last week.

DIY BARBELLS |LETS GET CRAFTY continued… As you can see, I went over my daily caloric goal one day but otherwise I was doing great! Just so you know, Big Daddy and I are avid movie goers and we are avid soda and candy/popcorn consumers. However, this past weekend we went to the movie armed with grapes and water (yes, we sneak food in) and for the first time avoided popcorn, goobers, and soda. THIS. WAS. HUGE. Anyways, you might be thinking, “How does your weight loss journey fit into a DIY blog?” OOOOHHH! I’m so glad you asked! Here’s where it gets totally relevant. I want to show you how you can make your own weights with only a few dollars! Although this is pretty cool for el cheapos out there, me included, there is another reason I made my own weights…

Just like when I was in high school, the Army, and even now at the gym, I feel completely intimidated by the section of the gym where the dress code is a tank top and the password to get in requires a grunting noise. The weight room is like a mens only club and if you’re a female, trying to build muscle mass, there are generally two responses (in my opinion). The first response in the mens only club is to immediately tell you what you’re doing wrong and then begin to show you how to do it right. The second, and my least favorite, response is to oogle you. Yuk. We know ya’ll are looking at our butts. So, there you have it. This DIY tutorial is cheap, easy, and you can rest assured that the oogling will be minimal. I can’t guarantee that your significant other won’t oogle. Just saying.

DIY WEIGHTS You’ll need: 2 plastic gallon milk containers, 1 metal pole or bamboo stick, Water, 1 pair of socks (not required) 12 | Be Insipred! THE Magazine

DIY BARBELLS |LETS GET CRAFTY continued… Directions:Just buy milk, drink it, rinse the jug out and fill it with water. Slide each gallon of water on either side of the pole. If you’re worried about the weight shifting, you can always tie a sock on either side of the “weights” handle to keep it in place (not pictured). That’s it. I bought a metal pole (electrical metallic tubing) from the plumbing department at Home Depot for $3.48. As you can see from the label I bought a slightly larger size at 3/4″ round x 5′ long pole. This should give you ample room for some of the exercises I recommend. And because the pole has two raw ends I bought a bag of plastic caps to put on both ends. The bag of 4 caps cost me 86 cents. These were found right next to the poles in the corresponding size. Again, I bought 3/4″. photos on the next page.

THINK BIG rejoice small… By Erica Latrice

As you develop your goals for this year and follow in your dreams I want to help you avoid making one costly mistake. I remember responding to an ad sometime ago offering coaching services from a well known business guru. I decided to take a chance and call the number. I ended up on a line with a representative that proceeded to belittle every accomplishment that I had made in the past year to convince me to spend thousands of dollars on a coaching program. I finished that call feeling defeated and like a failure. Not only because she highlighted how far away I was from my meeting my goals, but I also didn’t have the money to pay for the “solution” to my problem. That was before I snapped out of my little funk and realized that I had been duped!

23 | Be Insipred! THE Magazine

I shared with that coaching representative my aspirations for speaking to millions of women. I shared my desire for the type of income that I wanted to make. I revealed to this coaching representative that I had many dreams, some further away then others. She went on to tell me how much I needed coaching and how I was way off and if I was not willing to make the investment I would not achieve those goals.

Cont… I made one crucial mistake that I believe many of us often do….I failed to celebrate how far I had come. I was so focused on speaking to millions of women that I overlooked the fact that I was now considered a professional speaker. There was once a day when the mere thought of me being an inspirational speaker was laughable. I was so focused on the type of income that I wanted to make that I overlooked the fact that I had now been blessed to work from home. Not to mention the food in my stomach and the roof over my head. We can’t get so focused on where we are going that we forget to celebrate the provisions that God makes for us now! As a home executive no matter how big or small your headquarters may be, I want you to take the time to celebrate them.

Praise God not just for the big miracles in your life. Be thankful and mindful of even the smallest provisions. When I took my eyes off of how far away I was from my “dream” I started to realize that I was already living it. I challenge you today that while you think big you will never forget to rejoice over the small accomplishments, as well.

I was picked on by bullies from the moment I hit puberty in middle school until a couple years after I graduated with my Masters in Business Administration. No matter how hard I tried to “fit in” or “hide out” – it seemed like bullies at school, church, and on the job had special radar tuned into my location. When they found me, they would take every opportunity to pounce on my selfesteem, my accomplishments, or my uniqueness – and I’d let them. Then one day I got tired of letting bullies make me feel like there was nothing good, beautiful, or worthy about me. I decided that I would rather die fighting to protect my gifts than to just sit back and let one more person try to steal my happiness. While I might be a little battered and bruised, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been because I’m determined to fearlessly pursue my dreams despite the challenges thrown my way.->

It’s impossible for us to escape the defiant presence of bullies in our professional endeavors. Bullies come in all forms. They can be pompous people, persistent negative thoughts, or endless streams of adverse situations. It’s up to us to choose whether or not we will let them force us to quit or if we are going to dig our heels in and fight for our right to freely live our dreams.

Always remember: Your words are worthy to be heard. Your dreams are worthy to be lived. Your heart is worthy to be loved.

I decided to post the lyrics to one of my favorite songs right now. I haven't done this in about a year. This song is my go-to song when I don't know where to turn or what to do. It reminds that God will protect me and not lead me astray. All I have to do is step aside. I hope you find it inspirational. Step Aside by Tamala Mann Hold on don’t give up Don’t you worry you don’t have to cry God sees, He sees what you’re going through God is willing and He’s able This didn’t catch Him by surprise So if you would trust Him and just step, step aside And be still; don’t question it For these obstacles they were allowed And know he wants to take you Take you higher, higher you just hold on.... And know my God is willing; and he's able This didn’t catch Him by surprise So if we would trust Him and just step, step, step aside Ohh! He is faithful. My God is faithful to do what He said He would do And if He said it I believe it There is nothing He can’t do If you stand on His Word Cast your cares on Him For He knows and He loves you He did it for me and I thank Him If you would step, oh if you step aside And get out of his way My God will work in your behalf; yes, he will

If you step, step My God will do exceedingly and abundantly of everything you can ask. If you step...oh, if you step aside and lean not to your own understanding My God will work, he'll work in your behalf If you get out of his way And lean on Jesus Just cast all your cares on him My God will, he'll work it out; yes, he will If you get out of his way and lean on him If you make one step, God will make two There is no secret what he can do If you step, step, step, ohhhh...ohhh, woo If you watch God Work You can't fix it on your own You're not strong enough If you lean on Jesus Trust Jesus, You tried everything else, you tried everything, everything else Try Jesus, try Jesus, try Jesus, try Him And step, step, step...Step Aside.

Inspire Your Spirit| Monday Meditations continued

With my birthday around the corner, it has made realize that God has brought me through so much. Sometimes we need to be reminded of what He has done in order to understand what we should be doing. We often lose our focus or turn it towards someone else. We need to first be aligned with Him and His plans. There is no way we can help others if we are unable to do that. This week take the time to seek, praise, and love God before you work on yourself or anyone else. The scripture is: Psalm 101 1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, LORD, I will sing praise. 2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will conduct the affairs of my house with a blameless heart. 3 I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it. 4 The perverse of heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with what is evil.

We go through various situations for a reason, but what I have noticed is that once we feel that we have gotten it together (whatever it may be) we often become critical of others that might still be struggling. We also become critical of those that have made it through their struggles. It is almost as if we want to be the only one that is successful. It makes me wonder why another child of God would wish suffering on someone else. When we treat others like this, we close ourselves off from God and other Kingdom Relationships. We become isolated and rely only on our faulty thinking, which we all know can become our downfall.

Romans 14: 10-13 10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’ ” 12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. 13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. Sincerely, Nichelle M. Wall

Instead of becoming critical, become a servant to those that need to be served. God brings us through things in order for us to help others. We should never just hold on to our blessings. We are blessed so that we can bless others. This week take the time to get over yourself and truly, unselfishly serve others. The scripture is:

we have discussed seeking God's direction and following His leading. I have realized that many of us do well on those two tasks, but when it comes to actually having to do God's will we do the minimum. This could be due to fear, laziness, rebelling, or just not knowing where to begin. The doing is important. It is not enough to ask for what you want and be inactive. We must act on faith, believing God has the master plan. This week begin acting on God's purpose in your life and remember its not about us, but Him and His Kingdom. The scripture is: Matthew 7:7-12 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? 12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Following His lead, Nichelle M. Wall

TRUSTING GOD WITH YOUR SUCCESS By Christina Patterson Being a work-at-home mom certainly has its challenges, especially time management. You want a healthy balance between spending time with family and working towards your professional goals. Unfortunately, in today’s society we are bombarded with messages that tell us in order to be successful you must work your fingers to the bones, work a vast amount of overtime, and sleep? Who needs it?

Joshua and God’s people would need to take over the people already in the land before they could claim it for themselves and settle there. Joshua’s job was threefold. One, he would enter the promise land. Two, he would conquer the land. Three, he would divide the land among God’s people.

However, many times people do a lot of work without actually getting much accomplished. This is because many people try to follow the world’s methods of obtaining success which leads to a definite lack of balance and a cycle you do not want to start. “I do believe in the value of hard work, but my recent studies in God’s word have also made me a true believer in the value of resting in God. “ For the past few months I have been studying the book of Joshua. Joshua was called by God to lead God’s people from wondering in the wilderness into a land they would call home, their Promised Land. Although this was a land God promised to give them previously; there were still obstacles they would have to overcome before they could enter the land. Mainly the land was already occupied.

He had a great task before him, especially following in the footsteps of Moses who lead the people out of slavery and during their time in the wilderness. To prepare Joshua for this calling God tells him to do two main things. One, be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:6-7,9). And two, be careful to follow God’s law (Joshua 1:7-8). Then God tells Joshua he will have success. ->

36 | Be Insipred! THE Magazine

http://pureswisswellness.myarbonne.com/

Being obedient to these two calls from God requires a certain type of focus you will not cultivate in an environment where you are running yourself thin. Working your fingers to the bone will not give time to spend with God, to listen to Him, to glen from His strength, and it will certainly not give you the opportunity to trust God in moments of rest. In fact, overworking usually results from a lack of trust in God. But when we know that God is working behind the scenes, He is faithful to see His promises to completion, and He has our best interest in mind; we can confidently do our best, and let God do the rest. God told Joshua, “only be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:7, NIV, emphasis added).

God did not tell him to study military strategy all day and night. Instead God said meditate on my word day and night (Joshua 1:8). God did not tell Joshua how big the giants were that he would face. Instead He said only be strong (Joshua 1:7). God did not tell Joshua to worry about how difficult it would be. Instead He said only be courageous (Joshua 1:7). God does not want our efforts towards success to be out of fear, entitlement, obligation, or our own glory. Our efforts towards success should be for His glory. And He receives the most glory when we stop operating out of fear, stop controlling, stop manipulating and give Him space to work through us. We can do our part and then we can rest assured He will do His. The world may make you feel the road to success is only paved with intense levels of work leaving no room for rest. God, on the other hand, requires a healthy balance between the two. As a work-at-home mom this message took a huge load off my shoulders. Before, I felt pressure to work harder than necessary to be successful. Now, I am free knowing I am doing my part, and God is doing His. Ironically, since then I have been more productive and have accomplished more than I could have ever imagined. Glory to God alone! I hope you too find peace and balance in trusting God with your success. © 2012 Christina Patterson

Today the words, “just enough light for the step I’m on” resonates in my spirit. I am reminded of a book that I read over 10 years ago by Stormie Omartian with this same title. It was a great devotional that now gives me revelation for this season in my life. It is the beginning of a new year and like others, I am seeking God for direction and vision. Before, I thought having vision for my life, ministry, family, and etc. meant that I would see God's “big picture” for these areas. I thought having a total, clear vision for these things would mean that I would have everything completely 'figured out' or at least some clarity. However, for the past several months I have been walking with just enough light for the step I am on. God whispers something to me that draws me to the next step, but I can see no further. I have learned to have faith to step when I hear Him call. The Bible says that “my sheep know my voice”.

40 | Be Insipred! THE Magazine

I have learned to hear and discern the Shepard’s voice clearer and clearer as I draw closer to Him. I seek Him in prayer and in His mighty word and then I wait. I am desperate for His leading. It has been a difficult learning process but like many, I wanted the big picture now. I thought I needed to know all of His plans so that I would not mess up. That was my problem. I tried to figure things out instead of allowing God to direct me. You see, the word says in Hebrews 12:2, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”->

Inspire Your Spirit| Just Enough Light

The Lord spoke to me this summer and said that this is not the time or season to have peripheral vision. We can not be distracted to look at the things to the left or the right. We have to have our eyes/vision focused on HIM. The Holy Spirit spoke to me this morning and revealed that if He were to give me the whole vision for His plan in my life, then my eyes would focus on that, the plan. He knows my limitations and is faithful to lead me in His best ways to accomplish His will for my life. He draws me to each new step, leaving me dependent on Him to see any further. When I am obedient to His voice, He takes me to the next step. The Bible says that “His is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” and that “the steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord”. He has our paths laid out. Once we are desperate and hungry to seek Him in His word, then He illuminates the next step. If we walk blindly in our own ways, then we will fall and not be accomplishing all that He wants for us. As I started my 2012 fast, I heard the Lord say to fast for His grace this year. This is what I need. I need His wonderful grace to save me, lead me, keep me, and follow me in every step that I take this year.

I am desperate for Him and I refuse to take a step ahead unless He shines His light upon it and says “Come Follow Me”. He is the light of the world and I will follow that light because it is just enough for the step that I am on. Join me in declaring 2012 as a year that our vision will be fixed on Jesus and His light that shines on the path ahead. It is just enough light to lead us and keep us on His path and in His will. 2012 will be a year that our Vision is fixed and focused in on the one that is the only way, the truth, and the life. Jesus is the light of the world and our vision should be focused on HIM for each step. By: Jackie Gaskins Author of The Four Princesses www.VirtuousGirlsForGod. com

What is the definition of Sin? Answer: Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7; Joshua 1:18). Sin had its beginning with Lucifer, probably the most beautiful and powerful of the angels. Not content with his position, he desired to be higher than God, and that was his downfall, the beginning of sin (Isaiah 14:12-15). Renamed Satan, he brought sin to the human race in the Garden of Eden, where he tempted Adam and Eve with the same enticement, “you shall be like God.” Genesis 3 describes Adam and Eve’s rebellion against God and against His command. Since that time, sin has been passed down through all the generations of mankind and we, Adam’s descendants, have inherited sin from him.

Romans 5:12 tells us that through Adam sin entered the world, and so death was passed on to all men because “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Through Adam, the inherent inclination to sin entered the human race, and human beings became sinners by nature. When Adam sinned, his inner nature was transformed by his sin of rebellion, bringing to him spiritual death and depravity which would be passed on to all who came after him. We are sinners not because we sin; rather, we sin because we are sinners. This passed-on depravity is known as inherited sin. Just as we inherit physical characteristics from our parents, we inherit our sinful natures from Adam. King David lamented this condition of fallen human nature in Psalm 51:5: “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” Another type of sin is known as imputed sin. Used in both financial and legal settings, the Greek word translated “imputed” means “to take something that belongs to someone and credit it to another’s account.”

Inspire Your Spirit| GotQuestions.org Before the Law of Moses was given, sin was not imputed to man, although men were still sinners because of inherited sin. After the Law was given, sins committed in violation of the Law were imputed (accounted) to them (Romans 5:13). Even before transgressions of the law were imputed to men, the ultimate penalty for sin (death) continued to reign (Romans 5:14).

All humans, from Adam to Moses, were subject to death, not because of their sinful acts against the Mosaic Law (which they did not have), but because of their own inherited sinful nature. After Moses, humans were subject to death both because of inherited sin from Adam and imputed sin from violating the laws of God. God used the principle of imputation to benefit mankind when He imputed the sin of believers to the account of Jesus Christ, who paid the penalty for that sin—death—on the cross. Imputing our sin to Jesus, God treated Him as if He were a sinner, though He was not, and had Him die for the sins of the entire world (1 John 2:2). It is important to understand that sin was imputed to Him, but He did not inherit it from Adam. He bore the penalty for sin, but He never became a sinner. His pure and perfect nature was untouched by sin. He was treated as though He were guilty of all the sins ever committed by the human race, even though He committed none. In exchange, God imputed the righteousness of Christ to believers and credited our accounts with His righteousness, just as He had credited our sins to Christ’s account (2 Corinthians 5:21).

48 | Be Insipred! THE Magazine

A third type of sin is personal sin, that which is committed every day by every human being. Because we have inherited a sin nature from Adam, we commit individual, personal sins, everything from seemingly innocent untruths to murder. Those who have not placed their faith in Jesus Christ must pay the penalty for these personal sins, as well as inherited and imputed sin. However, believers have been freed from the eternal penalty of sin—hell and spiritual death—but now we also have the power to resist sinning. Now we can choose whether or not to commit personal sins because we have the power to resist sin through the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, sanctifying and convicting us of our sins when we do commit them (Romans 8:9-11). Once we confess our personal sins to God and ask forgiveness for them, we are restored to perfect fellowship and communion with Him. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Inspire Your Spirit| GotQuestions.org We are all three times condemned due to inherited sin, imputed sin, and personal sin. The only just penalty for this sin is death (Romans 6:23), not just physical death but eternal death (Revelation 20:11-15). Thankfully, inherited sin, imputed sin, and personal sin have all been crucified on the cross of Jesus, and now by faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior “we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7).

THE FAITH TEST Do You Have The Faith To Trust GOD?By Ebony Harper

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Sometimes we work inside of a box for so long we don't know how to get out of it or how to function outside of it. We have to want it bad enough, push forward, and press on to the goal. How can you want out of a situation that you don't push forward to get out of? How can you get out of it if you do not step out on faith? Press, push, do whatever you have to. Remember that sometimes GOD wants to see how far we are going to go to reach out and touch Him! He wants to know if we are going to put down all the things that we desire, even our hopes and our dreams, for Him. He wants to know that even though these things mean the world to you that you will place it in His hands.

Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. In my life it was always hard for me to set aside my feelings, not my desires, but the feelings for people I cared about. Not too long ago I did some more reading on the woman and the alabaster box. That woman took all she had and gave it up for the LORD. She took something so expensive and broke it and set it aside for the LORD. Is there anything that you feel you need to give to GOD, something that may be important to you? It could even be something that you have been trying to fix in your own strength. Proverbs 3:5-10 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. Is your struggle finances, is it your family member that seems to go in their own direction, or maybe like me it could be some old or strained relationship? What are the things you hold so precious in your alabaster box? What is that thing that needs to be mixed with a whole lot faith to overcome? ->

Inspire Your Spirit| faith test cont. How much of you does GOD have right now at this moment? Have you put Him in every situation? Have you put Him in every one of your affairs? I know I have been neglecting giving Him my all. Think about Peter and Jesus walking on water. You may say okay what does this have to do with anything? Matthew 14:28-33 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Meditate on this story for a moment and think about this: Going back to when I began writing this; how many times to we ask for GOD's help in a situation and still don't have enough faith that He can do it. How many times does He have to save us or do we drown before we realize,

How many times does He have to save us or do we drown before we realize, "YES YOU TRULY ARE WHO YOU SAY YOU ARE!" How many times does He have to save us or do we drown before we realize, "YES YOU TRULY ARE WHO YOU SAY YOU ARE!" This wasn't even the first time Jesus asked one of his disciples why did he doubt Him. In fact earlier in the scriptures Jesus had saved the disciples from drowning before. Matthew 8:23-27 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him! Even the first disciples were questioned about their faith. They were questioned about being afraid. Think about how scared you get when GOD asks to give up that one thing that means the world to you, that thing that you hold so dearly in your alabaster box. What about Abraham ready to sacrifice his own Son for the Father's will? I'm sure his son was part his alabaster box. Do you have the faith to press on just a little further? Even though we sometimes don't feel that GOD will do what he said He is going to do, he still has mercy on when we doubt Him. He will still saves us from drowning, but He still is calling us to step out on faith and break down walls to get to Him.->

Faith Test Do you have the faith to Trust God ? continued.. The woman with the alabaster box did everything and anything she could to get to Jesus, which included giving up the only thing she had left. That box held her finances and her only source of income. Abraham was willing to sacrifice his own son, even after GOD said that he would have as many offspring as the stars. How could he possibly sacrifice the future that GOD promised Him? If you remember it actually took Abraham a while to have so much faith in GOD that He would do what He promised. We all know that Abraham had a child with Hagar because he thought Sarah was too old to bear a child and attempted to get those promised children using his own understanding! He didn't understand how GOD was going to do what he promised, but if He did it with Abraham what makes us think that He would not do it for us. I know I am glad GOD revealed these things to me so that I will continue to practice this in my own life because I feel like it gets so hard for us as believers to believe in something that seems so far-fetched and something that we can’t possibly see or imagine. Sometimes need to encourage ourselves. We have to learn that we if we don’t have faith when it comes to what GOD wants to do in our lives, we will begin to put Him and what He wants to do in

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Mark 9:23 "If you can?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes." Jesus has already told us in the scriptures that nothing will be impossible and that everything is possible for him who believes. How amazing is that really? He tells us that with faith the size of a mustard seed that we will be able to move mountains. I know I’m ready to move a few mountains and I want to press further in my faith to get what GOD has for me! Do you?

You now know that anything and everything is possible for the believer. I pray that as you read this your eyes will be open and you will no longer place GOD or what He is able to do in a small box. He wants to do more than just what you desire in your life. Trust GOD and let Him show you what He wants to do with you and in you! As my pastor Dr. Jeffery Chapman Sr. says, “He will come see about you. And He will show up, and show out.” But remember this will only happen when you let Him. Have faith. He is going to work it all out for you just because He loves you. He just needs you to trust in Him. Ebony DiÓndra Harper

By Rhonda Ferebee Hammond Yesterday I had a conversation with one of the editors of our publishing division who said to me “God told me to worry about the jars and let him worry about the oil wow!!! Today I am still in awe at that statement, and how it pertains to my life, and I am reminded of 3 years ago when we were faced with one of the coldest winters ever. It was around this time and it was so cold, and in the months ahead it snowed and snowed and snowed some more. That was also the winter my kids lost my car keys in the snow because it was so thick it, was hard to walk through.

As we prepared for our women’s conference that year we had planned to take things up a notch in our program, since we had invited an exceptionally remarkable woman to be our keynote speaker that year. We did all of our advertisement, filled the registration, met with so many people who helped us in the planning of the event and now it was the night before. I remember sitting in the car pretty down because an event that we had planned for a year in advance was about to get snowed out because the weather had called for a blizzard the night before. Can you believe it? I sat in the car with our speaker, and we had said that if by a certain time the news report had not changed that we would have to move the event. What would I do I thought? We sold all those tickets? What would happen now if we moved the event out a month away to get out of this horrible snow weather? What would the venue say about moving the event? And my stomach hurt to think about all of the advertising we had done online and offline and had to pull it down?

Inspire Your Spirit| have a little faith cont. I sat in the car with my son and we called the keynote and agreed that we would make an announcement that the event had to be rescheduled because of inclement weather. She then said, “ Rhonda I am going to pray for you and your son that God gives you the wisdom you need to help you in rearranging the plans”.My son and I closed our eyes and she prayed. Boy did she pray! It was such an eloquent prayer that I know reached the heavens, and because we were all on one accord I know God had His ear to my car window listening to our request. The next day I went over the list of all the places we advertised, called the venue, called our PR rep, sent emails, contacted the website to let them all know that because of the weather we now were scheduled to have the event in one month. Everyone was so accommodating, and all that I was worried about went out the door that night in March, because the room was beautiful, our keynote gave a breathtaking piece about living your purpose, all the women showed up, and because the date changed it seemed that more women came out that year, and my bestie did her first fashion show and ripped the runway. We still laugh about her putting down her fears and just doing it. It was a day in February when we started in my home with 10 women and started with mustard seed faith because we knew there was a need.

And as we continued we had no idea that the event would grow to what it has today, that we would encourage women to go after their dreams, that we would help women have their first: their first ballroom experience, their first debut of their clothing line or even our staffs first time in a fashion show. And just like our editor said, “God told me to worry about the jars, and let Him worry about the oil.” That story focuses about the widow, her son, and her need for money to clear her debt. When I reflect of the blizzard or any instance in my life I am reminded to keep the faith, that what God starts He will be right there to see it through and that when I try to work out my own strength that he is always working in the background, and when I worry about the oil for the jars, He reminds us that as you are empty that He is working to fill us up as He promised to keep our jars filled and just because things have to be rescheduled, God has a plan, and it will work out just fine. Just Worship Him By Shade Brunson Job 1:20 “Then Job arose and rent his robe and shaved his head and fell down upon the ground and worshipped” (AMP). As I read this verse one word stands out to me “worshipped”. Job has just begun to experience a few of the many trials he would go through. In this chapter, he lost many of his animals, servants, and young people from fires, winds, and other causes. As Job hears of all the losses, the first thing he does is reverences God and worships Him.

Wow, he worships Him. How many of us can say we do this when calamity comes our way? I know for myself, I am convicted of not worshipping God at times but instead complain and immediately think “What about me”. God is trying to teach us something in this message. I don’t know what you may be experiencing right now. Maybe you are having financial difficulties, relationship conflicts, got a bad phone call or doctor’s report, anxious about how you are going to make it, etc. I encourage you to just worship God. Worship God and trust Him in all your situations. ->

98 | Be Insipred! THE Magazine

Don’t just worship Him when God gives you a solution to your problem. Worship Him before you get the breakthrough you need. As you do this, God will show up and show out like never before. I don’t know when, but He will come through. His timing is not our own, but it is perfect. Throughout the book of Job, Job continued to worship God in the midst of adversity. As a result, he was blessed with double for all his trouble. I believe that if you just hold on, God is going to do the same for you, in due season. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for this Word. I pray for all the people who may be having a tough time right now. I pray that your Spirit will guide them and comfort them wherever they are. Please show them that you are right there in the midst of the storm. I pray that they will lift up their eyes and just worship you. I thank you for opening doors and for new opportunities. I thank you that you are a restorer of all things which are lost. Please Father, keep and protect your children from harm. May they be blessed in all things they do. In Jesus’s Name, Amen. After graduating in May 2011, I was unable to find a job so I moved back home with my parents. So far I have saved $300 from babysitting but I now have an opportunity to work full-time starting in March. I would like to open my first bank accounts but I don’t know what type of checking and savings accounts make sense for me. With so many options, how do I compare bank accounts? After opening my accounts, I want to rent my first apartment or share an apartment with a roommate by January 2013. If I remain home with my parents I should be able to save $400 each month, does this amount seem reasonable to save? R. Jackson- Centreville, V.A.

Inspire Your mind | Improve Your Finances. First, let me congratulate you on landing your first job! I image you are anxious to start your first day of work and to move out your parents’ house. As you prepare for this new phase understand that it is equally important to build your professional and financial skillset. Too often, I see professionals make poor financial decisions and this prevents them from experiencing a comfortable lifestyle. Before you start your bank hunt, take some time and think about what checking and savings account features are necessary for you to best manage your money.

 Is there a minimum balance you must maintain to avoid a fee?  Will you earn interest daily or monthly on your average balance?  Are there charges for making purchases using your debit card?  How many free checks can you write each month? Will you be charged a service fee for each additional check processed?  Does the institution offer a bill payment service? Is this service free of charge or will you need to pay for each transaction?  Is there a monthly fee for each account you have?  Can your monthly statements be downloaded online or will they be mailed to you?  Does the institution offer a convenient automated system to verify transactions, report lost / stolen cards or process other request?  Are checking and savings accounts NCUA federally insured?

 Is there convenient access to ATM and branch locations?  What options are available for overdraft protection? Will this be a line of credit, or will funds be transferred from another deposit account? There is much to consider before making a decision. Remember, you don’t want to settle for any checking and savings account; you will be working hard for your money and you want to avoid outrageous fees and inconvenient features. As a recommendation you can make a spreadsheet or a simple chart to help you compare your options. Sometimes too many options can make the process overwhelming; therefore, select five or less financial institutions to review. You are welcome to use the above mentioned features as a guide for creating your spreadsheet / chart. Once you have made your selection it’s time to think about how you will divide your current $300 savings. Consider these questions before heading to your local branch:  Will you need to purchase a few personal items prior to your first day of work, reducing your $300 savings?  Do you plan to deposit only the minimum to establish your savings and use your future income to make routine deposits? The next task is to consider how you will manage your money once your account has been opened. Will you use a check register to track your expenses? Or, do you plan to use online banking tools? There is no right or wrong answer to how you will manage your money. Sometimes, you may find that it takes some trial and error to find the method that works best for you. Keep in mind that you don’t want your errors to result in costly fees and penalties. If you work best with technology, you may want to consider online banking, a smart phone app or a personalized spreadsheet/software. If you feel you are losing sight of where your cash is going, consider using cash only or a check registry system. These methods instill discipline by limiting your expenses to the available cash on hand. A final consideration is to take $20 of your current $300 savings and conduct a test run. Were you able to track how you spent the $20 or did it disappear in a matter of days? Without a proper handle on your money it is easy to fall prey to tempting credit card offers and other financial traps. ->

102 | Be Insipred! THE Magazine

Your final task before opening your accounts is to determine your monthly budget when renting an apartment. With the acceptance of your new position you may have some insight on your monthly income. Based on this amount you will need to determine the following expenses:  Rent  Electricity  Water  Television (optional)  Cell Phone  Groceries

By JonNisha Evans

As an example, let’s say the above expenses total $600 each month. Although your goal is to save roughly $400 each month, you should commit to saving $600. Over the next ten months you could save nearly $6,000 which is more than enough to cover your deposit, utilities and moving expenses! If you are experiencing difficulties with saving $600 each month you will likely struggle with covering your routine monthly expenses. You have plenty of time to review and adjust your budget while living with your parents. Stay focused on what is important to you financially to avoid distractions such as shopping and dining out which may delay your anticipated move. Best wishes on your exciting transition! Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 I am sitting in my office as I type this article with more than enough things on my to do list. I have tackled my kitchen with hopes of getting my living room and kid’s room in order before a conference call that I have scheduled this evening. At this point I have a few options:  

Option 1: Get frazzled and overwhelmed ending in no productivity. Option 2: Start cleaning my living room but with a lack of vision only to look up hours from now with only bits and pieces of each room in order. Option 3:Or I can do what has consistently worked for me in the past. That is the Power of One.

Had you visited me earlier today you would know that my kitchen was a hot mess! However, it could now be featured in the next edition of a Home and Garden magazine. I was able to accomplish this by using this tool that I am going to share with you. You may even use it without even knowing it. I have learned the power of focusing on one task at a time and not moving on until it is completed. I did not touch my living room, kids room or any other project until I finished the kitchen.
