SELLING 30 PUREBRED YEARLING ANGUS BULLS
This is a great time to say thank you to all our past customers. It is because of your faith in our breeding program that keeps us striving to produce a bull that will fulfill your needs. This offering of bulls is the most consistent group we have ever offered. This is in part due to the fact that every bull is out of an AI mating. This milestone has been a goal we’ve been chasing since we started the purebred herd. We strive to keep consistency in our patterns of production. This year the only major change from last year was the bulls were not brought up to a 52 mcal ration, but rather left on a 48 from weaning. We hoped this would mean more pounds on more roughage. We invite you to come see what raising these animals means to us, and celebrate INDOORS in our new sale facility. Statement from “The Cattle Team” at Northwest Veterinary and Supply: All sale bulls offered by Assmus Angus have met the rigorous health criteria set by the Assmus Family and raised in an excellent animal husbandry practice setting. Northwest Veterinary and Supply has done a thorough breeding soundness exam and semen evaluation on each bull for sale. Bulls have received their first pre-breeding vaccination, as well as being vaccinated for anthrax and footrot. All sale bulls have a negative BVD blood test. Health papers for interstate travel are available for any animals purchased and being taken to another state. Additional testing may be required prior to export depending on state of destination. Carcass ultrasound data was obtained by Jeff Schoenfelder of Northwest Veterinary and Supply and certified by CUPS (Centralized Ultrasound Processing). —Erik Holum, DVM

Calving ase Direct (C D), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. irth Weight PD ( W), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Weaning Weight PD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. earling Weight PD ( W), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Maternal Milk PD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf s weaning weight a ributed to milk and mothering ability. Cow nergy Value ( N), expressed in dollar savings per cow per year, assesses differences in cow energy requirements as an expected dollar savings difference in daughters of sires. A larger value is more favorable when comparing two animals (more dollars saved on feed energy expenses). Components for computing the cow $EN savings difference include lactation energy requirements and energy costs associated with differences in mature cow size. Carcass Weight PD (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Ribeye Area PD (R ), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Marbling PD (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Weaned Calf Value ( W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk and mature cow size. eef Value ( ), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. (As defined by the American Angus Association.)
