Erika Lindsay is an interdisciplinary artist-designer-researcher who explores memory, culture, and heritage in relation to the more-than-human world. She holds a BFA from the College for Creative Studies, and an M.Arch. and MSci in Conservation from Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. As an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Detroit Mercy, she teaches graduate seminars on memory, building reuse, and ecological justice, guiding students to recognize their agency in shaping the built environment. Her creative practice, IS/WAS, combines field recording, video, and photography to document and critically reframe disused and forgotten sites, expanding the heritage narrative for a broader public. She creates work inspired by the natural world, including forest-based installations that explore connections between place, deep listening, and ecology. Through her work, Lindsay advocates for socially conscious and environmentally responsible spatial practices.
