A Visitors Centre contains areas for exhibitions related to the Castle Devin, a small amphitheater for performances, an information center, a restaurant, a sports field and their facilities so that the building functions 24 hours a day for all age groups and provides comfort for tourists who visit the castle. The Information Center design is based on a stone structure of the castle wall. In this way it is as if the Information Center becomes part of the castle itself since its existence is inseparably bound to the castle towering over it. location: Devín/Bratislava/SK type: public building author: Erik Blaho supervisor: doc.Ing.arch.Zuzana Tóthová,PhD. year: 2011

A Universal Production Hall designed for light industry contains everything that a regular company needs (production facilities, office spaces, laboratories/workshops, staff facilities and a showroom). The most important part of the building – the production hall is highlighted by material used for its façade which differs from the rest of the building. A glassed façade was used on the front side of the production hall so that a passerby can see the production process. lokalita: Dúbravka/Bratislava/SK druh: production buildings autor: Erik Blaho vedúci práce: Ing.arch.Katarína Kujanová,PhD. rok: 2012

The synagogue is located in Senec on the southern edge of the main square. The building was made in 1825 and renovated in 1904 in a Secession style with oriental elements. In 1948 the synagogue was closed and through 1950-1957 it was used as a granary. This kind of usage caused a great damage to the building and today it is closed and abandoned. Our goal was to restore the synagogue to its original appearance in 1904 whereas interiors were adapted for the purpose of cultural events (concerts, exhibitions, lectures ...) by creating a flexible space, constructing toilets in the basement and attic offices. Furnishing of the synagogue was designed to make a clear contrast between the new and old. location: Senec/SK type: monument restoration authors: Erik Blaho, Matej Brondoš supervisor: doc.Ing.arch.Jana Pohaničová,PhD. year: 2012

A designed ending of Petržalka district consists of 4 parts. The first two that are closer to the housing estate are built on the plateau which contains facilities and garages. The buildings of the other two parts in close neighbourhood to the forest are already built on the surface while the fourth part contains a bus depot which is part of the shopping center. A large recreation axis which links the original settlement of Petržalka with the future city district Slnečnice passes through the center of the proposal . location: Petržalka/Bratislava/SK type: urban design authors: Erik Blaho, Andrej Barinka supervisor: doc.Ing.arch.Ľubica Vitková,PhD. consultant: Ing.arch.Ondrej Chybik, Ing.arch.Michal Krištof year: 2012

An apartment of a well-known writer of short stories and novels Mort Rainy. He has remarried, and now he lives with his wife and a son from his first marriage who is entrusted to his care during the weekends. For Mr. Rainy it was important to create a peaceful environment without any disturbances since he works at home. As he needs to feel free and not cramped, it was necessary to create an open space by combining a kitchen, a living room and an entrance. Since he needs silence for his work, there arose the need to make a study as well. Due to the fact that the writer spends weekends with his son and the flat does not pocess enough space to create another room, the study should be variable, so it can be changed into a room available for his son over the weekends. location: Apartment house Vtáčnik /Nové mesto/Bratislava/SK type: interior author: Erik Blaho supervisor: Mgr.art.Katarína Baťalíková year: 2012

EXHIBITION architeCTURE FOR nitrA Seniors deserve contemporary architecture! 3DS is a Seniors home or rather space for seniors to live their “autumn of life” with dignity. It is a complex of three buildings located on the hill next to the Calvary. The three main buildings provide four types of housing that can flexibly be customized so that every resident is able to create his new home. The three main buildings complement each other in the facilities (a swimming pool, a chapel, a dining room, a hairdresser...) so that movable seniors have a reason to move, visit other buildings and meet each other. Each building is composed of two materials, firstly glazed parts that signify those parts of the building that are common and public and secondly those that envelope the first to represent the areas of housing and provide privacy. The volumes are also orientated according to the view and cardinal points orientation. The 3DS complex is complemented by 15 houses on the south side of the hill and by public buildings on the west side of the hill. location: Nitra/SK type: senior housing author: Erik Blaho supervisor: doc.Ing.arch.Andrea Bacová,PhD. year: 2013 exhibition: Architecture for Nitra

The site is located in the Austrian village Zurndorf and forms a narrow strip connecting two parallel streets. The proposal consists of two houses: a building for temporary housing with space for workshops, and a Community Center with a square, which is the center of the village. The Community Center and the square make up a single unit so that they can provide a variety of events for the whole village, thus being its true center. In order to make the square reach its high potential, the building of the Community Center must be adjusted by a system of openable roof and ground floors. A podium or a roof terrace can easily be created by opening the roof. The open ground floor can provide great public space (a square + a Community Center + a small amphitheater). The objective was to create a complex of buildings that do not only threaten a rural character of the community but at the same time will be recreated by contemporary architecture. location: Zurndorf/AT type: urban design, public building, housing author: Erik Blaho supervisor: Ing.arch.Dušan Ferianc,PhD. year: 2014 traveling exhibition: Neue Funktionen für alte Baustrukturen (Zurndorf, Gols, Bratislava, Eisenstadt, Vienna) exhibition: pavilion STU FA at CONECO 2015

NEW PUBLIC SPACES FOR RUŽINOV UN.DEATH CITY

Urban Interventions bratislava 2015

Naše mestské priestory sú vymreté už dnes. Kam smerujeme?

STRATÉGIA PRE OŽIVENIE VEREJNÝCH PRIESTOROV

formovanie nových bodových verejných priestorov : doplnenie zvyšných nevyužitých plôch o priestory v zmysle námestí, športovísk a zelených plôch, ktoré by dotvárali okolité funkcie : podporenie vzniku nových lokálnych pulzujúcich centier a záujmových bodov

Projekt navrhuje univerzálnu stratégiu piatich krokov potrebných pre postupnú revitalizáciu mestských priestorov Bratislavy, ktoré vídame často ľudoprázdne a bez temperamentu. Pracuje s ťažiskovým verejným priestorom a identifikáciou existujúcich bariér v ňom. Medzi existujúce bariéry staviame automobilovú dopravu nepriateľskú ku chodcom, priestranné nekvalitné plochy zelene a iných spevnených plôch, nekvalitnú a schátralú chaotickú zástavbu, nedostatok bodových verejných priestorov v dochádzkovej vzdialenosti, absenciu hodnotných peších prepojení podporujúcich orientáciu a identifikáciu sa s priestorom, slabú spolupatričnosť a ľahostajnosť obyvateľov.

riešenie dopravých bariér : odstránenie prevahy automobilovej dopravy nepriateľskej ku chodcom vo verejnom priestore zmiernením a dehierarchizáciou hlavných ťahov, vznikom integrovaných zastávok medzimestskej a mestskej hromadnej dopravy a odstavných parkovísk, posilnením siete a komfortu mhd, vybudovaním cyklistickej siete : ide to aj inak ako autom a rovnako pohodlne!

formovanie peších prepojení : vytvorenie hierarchie peších prepojení medzi jednotlivými centrami a záujmovými bodmi : hierarchia určuje intenzitu užívania a tým potrebu funkčného a estetického stvárnenia, pričom profily komunikácií môžu formovať bulvár, mestskú triedu, lokálne komunikácie s potrebnými funkciami či intímne zelené pešie prepojenia

This diploma thesis is an urbanistic project of city districts Mlynské nivy, Pálenisko, Zimný prístav. The project is based on current trends in building a “future city”, it respects and tries to complement the character of the locality. Main ideas of the project are diversity of urbanistic structure, multifunctionality, flexibility, self-sufficiency, public space and rail transport, rich in public spaces, greenery, art and entertainment. Inhabitants should be able to reach all important institutions on foot, by bicycle or by public transport. Designated area contains several national cultural heritages as well as plenty other historical elements which by their preservation and new utilization ascend the area to “physical memory” and intensify genius loci. Designated area with its structure and functions may become extension of city centre. Italians are flexible! The conversion of two prefabricated apartment towers located in the heart of the Detmerode housing estate in Wolfsburg (in which people lost interest to reside) into apartment buildings which meet current needs for housing using a flexible convertible layouts and facades, as required (perhaps even in the future) by tenants. A very important part of this proposal is its proceeding of stages of recovery. workshop: Reworking the Boom Years theme: Reworking the Detmerode location: Detmerode/Wolfsburg/DE type: restoration authors: Erik Blaho, Natalie Dillon, Ibrahim El Laham year: 2014 http://reworking-the-energies-of-momo.org/index.php/group-f2-wolfsburg

VALUE ASSESSMENT Spirit and feeling: The naming of the two towers was used as a homage to the Italian workers of the factory. It refers to the physique of the two characters, the priest being tall and slender, the mayor being short ant stout that resembles the forms of the two towers. The naming though has also a symbolic meaning.

In the city center of Bratislava, the typical urban environment, we may encounter houses consisting of two to three floors that are located in the areas comprised of newer multi-storey buildings. Whereas efficiency of land use is significantly lower than in their surroundings. Therefore, hardly anyone is interested in these buildings which means they are at risk of demolition. The main issue of aforementioned houses is an inefficient use of land. Therefore, we try to come up with solutions to save these houses and continue the tradition of the original townhouses. Building a house above the original one is a mean of retaining the house with its original untouched expression while improving utilization of land, thus increasing effectiveness and profitability of use. The 1st floor of townhouses was generally used for craft, trade and work, 2nd and higher floors were reserved for housing. In our proposal we return to this principle. The upper house is for housing and the lower house could be used for work. The area reserved for work will be separated from the housing, while remaining in close proximity. competition: Contemporary single house through the eyes of young architects theme: Contemporary single house in urban area location: StarĂŠ mesto/Bratislava/SK type: family house authors: Erik Blaho, Matej BrondoĹĄ year: 2015 publication: magazine ARCH 6/2015
