Diagonal 0 | Barcelona, Spain Paris, France Study Abroad Studio Odile Decq Fifth year Fall 2016 “You have to adapt the risk-taking to the client, but you must always take him or her further than they imagined. The client’s limits are those of his or her imagination, while the architect’s role widens the field of possibilities, and therefore you need to educate the client in order to take him or her further. It’s the same as with teaching, when you get students to see that they can go much further than they thought they were capable of.And that’s a great joy! Everything in life is like that — discovering that nothing’s impossible.”
Vitra Stool Competition
While interning at Studio Odile Decq, I was able to work on many projects at many different scales. This included industrial design projects that I was assigned individually, like the Vitra Stool Competition, Alessi Wall Clock and Project Watch. As well as designing, producing renderings and working on schematic and preliminary design on portions of larger projects on Diagonal 0, in Barcelona, Twist, in Paris, and upcoming competition projects. The interniship gave me great insight on how a small, yet high profile firm works. I found it very valuable to be surrounded by many different international employees, that could give a multitude of new perspectives to design.

THE DIAGRAMS AND SECTIONS SHOW TWO DIFFERENT TIMES, THE FIRST AT 12:00:00 AND THE SECOND AT 3:44:56. SECTION CUT “A” HAPPENS AT 9 AND 3. SECTION CUT “B” HAPPENS AT 12 AND 6. THESE SHOW THE DISKS ROTATING ON A FLAT PLANE, AND THE VARIATION IN THE THICKNESS OF THE DISKS PRODUCE THE EFFECT OF AN INCLINED PLANE. THIS CREATES AN UNEVEN SURFACE WHERE IT ONLY BEOMES SMOOTH TWICE A DAY.
