Econ® actuators The Econ® scotch yoke actuators are designed for use in quarter-turn applications and are ideal for the on/off or continuous operation of plug, butterfly and ball valves, as well as dampers and other 90° turn devices. Product offerings include scotch yoke pneumatic and hydraulic actuators with torque values up to 250,000 Nm (2.2 million in-lb). Econ® actuators are engineered and build to withstand most severe applications and environmental conditions. The precision design and quality of our actuators provide long and safe performance for valve control. Econ® engineers and recognized distributors are happy to help you with your automation demands.

Scotch Yoke actuators Efficiency and long life Every Econ® Scotch Yoke actuator is built to provide long end Endefficient Start service with minimum maintenance. The design, engineering and End Start materials used in their construction ensure optimum performance even in the harshest environments.
The center body’s chromium plated alloy steel guide bar minimizes the transverse forces of the Scotch Yoke mechanism and ensures proper alignment of the piston rod. The enclosed weatherproof center body and end caps are sealed with O-Rings, which protect the actuator against water ingress.
Econ® Scotch Yoke actuators are available with symmetric yokes. Running A symmetric yoke provides torque throughout 0˚ more constant 90˚ - at both Running the break points and end positions.0˚ 90˚
Econ®’s Scotch Yoke actuators have bidirectional pinion travel stops. Bidirectional travel stops allow for ±10° travel adjustment between 80° to 100°. These travel stops help absorb impact loads associated with recommended travels speeds and prolong valve seat integrity.

Flexible configurations Econ® Scotch Yoke actuators are manufactured in many different combinations of sizes, cylinder diameters, and designs. Both the double acting Fig. 7992 and spring return Fig. 7991 designs are available for installation on quarter turn valves such as ball, butterfly and plug valves. Scotch Yoke actuators are designed for use over a wide range of pressures or temperatures.
Econ® Scotch Yoke actuators are of modular design. A pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder can be attached to either side or both sides. With a large stock of finished and semi-finished components always available, actuators can be assembled and supplied with very fast and reliable deliveries.

Control panels/cabinets Econ® actuators can be provided with various control systems ranging from a simple setup, comprising a mounting plate with a filter-regulator and solenoid valve, up to complex modulating control systems and full PLC controlled hydraulic power units (HPU).

Performance specifications
Manual overrides The manual override is an important requirement for many valve/actuator applications. In case that air fails, the user will be able to open or close the valve manually.
Maximum allowable working pressure • Hydraulic pressure: up to 135 bar (1,960 psi) • Pneumatic pressure: up to 8 bar (120 psi)
Econ® has a variety of override options available to meet any requirement. Available options include jackscrew or hydraulic manual override. We also offer solutions in Tank Reservoir Systems and Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs.) Jackscrew manual overrride (HW)
Torque output • Double acting (Fig. 7992): Up to 250,000 nm (2.2 million in-lb) • Spring return (Fig. 7991): Up to 71,000 nm (628,000 in-lb) Working temperatures Standard construction: -20°C to 80°C (-4°F to 176°F) • Low temperature version: -50°C to 80°C (-58°F to 176°F) • Extreme low temperature version: -60°C to 80°C (-76°F to 176°F) • High temperature version: -20°C to 120°C (-4°F to 248°F) •
Approvals and standards ISO 9001:2008 quality assurance In accordance with pressure equipment directive (PED) 2014/68/EU, Econ® Scotch Yoke actuators are classified as follows: - F10-150 up to F14-200 - Category SEP - F14-250 up to F16-350 - Category I - F25-350 up to F40-600 - Category II - F40-700 up to F60-900 - Category III - F60-1000 up to F60-1100 - Category IV • Classified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres as Group II Category 2, suitable for Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 in accordance with Annex VIII of Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX) • Safety integrity rating IEC 61508 SIL 2 or SIL 3 in a redundant setup. • •
Hydraulic manual overrride (HY)

They are able to understand the unique need of our clients to create specific automated valve packages that are fit for the purpose. Passive fire protection Passive fire protection is a key issue in the safety of hydrocarbon process plants. It is considered a reliable method to reduce plant fire risks. For this matter, Econ® actuators can be customized to withstand exposure to fire and very high temperatures. A full range of fire proof systems are available, including protective jackets, intumescent coatings and stainless steel enclosure systems. Meets UL 1709 requirements.

Valve Automation Centre The ERIKS Flow Control Valve Automation Centre in the Netherlands has a state of the art workshop in which well trained technicians mount pneumatic, hydraulic and electric actuators on valves. Valves and actuators can be modified according to customer specifications and be equipped with options such as valve positioners, limit switches, pilot valves and more. Five pressure test benches allow testing of valves up to DN1200/48”. The applicable standards are API 598 and EN 12266 and any other customer specified protocols can additionally be performed.
