TREND LOOKBOOK ERIN N. KELLEY SS/15
TREND:3-D EMBELISHMENT
3D-Embelishment is appearing all over the runway during Fall Fashion Week 2014. Some of the most notable moments were within Bottega Veneta, Giambattista Valli, and Marc Jacobs. These appliques are making the garments more interesting and unique. Really sparking fashion to make a statement, rather than just looking pretty. It’s a great twist on the prints adding the extra tangible texture. It seems to have been well received by the public and is a very promising candidate for the next big trend.

The very wearable creative use of buttons and embroidery were the catalyst of this trend starting within the Marc Jacobs show. Throughout the rest of NYC Fashion week there were 3d- embellishments in the form of sequins, fabric applique, jewels, and artistic embroidery. The main source of inspiration seemed to have originated from artwork. Some Designers following abstract through creating fluid

lines with the applique itself, or fine art creating their own floral prints and making some prints 3-D. This trend was also found in Milan fashion week, because the main inspiration was the seventies, so there was fringe and a lot of embroidery. This trend should be followed closely as it develops more, by the time spring 2015 comes around, it seems the public will be ready to accept it with open arms.
TREND:COLOR STORY

NUDE
There was a consistent theme of natural colors throughout the SS15 shows. It is very fitting of the spring/ summer style; the neutral light colors keeping one cool in the hot sun. The colors are very crisp and sleek, and let the silhouette really speak for itself. Some of the designers that stood out with this trend are, Hermes, Bcbg, Hiader Ackermann, and Bottega Veneta. Hermes
really kept the collection classic, with solid rich colors, and flattering of the moment silhouettes. It was one the strongest collection that showed, which should be noticed. The clean lines that have lots of layers seem to be a repetitive theme. As well as, the cinched waist was seen throughout many shows which, emphasizes the hourglass figure through the drapery and layers.
Bottega Veneta
Louis Vuitton
Hermes
Jill Sander
BLACK B&W NAVY Black and Navy were also a huge dominance of colors throughout the shows. It just shows that it is getting more and more acceptable to wear black all year long. Which is a great trend for all body shapes, because it is flattering on everyone. Navy is a similar color in that sense flattering most. The stark contrast with the lightness of the neutral color pallet in combination of
the dark blacks and blues create some interesting style lines. Some of the best examples were found in the collections of Bottega Veneta, Jill Sander, Hermes, and Louis Vuitton. Bottega Veneta really did black correctly keeping it minimal. Spring/Summer color pallet is really interchangeable between seasons. For this reason alone it will be a stand out color in everyone’s closets come 2015.
TREND:TEXTILES

TEXTILES: DENIM Denim is and up and coming trend for the spring 2015 season. It was seen throughout fashion week, and was the fashion world’s biggest surprise. It is done in a new and exciting way, not only sticking to jeans. There were all denim garments including, dresses, shirts, button downs, trousers, trenches, and collots. Some of the prominent designers who really coined this trend were,
Christophe Lemaire, Gabriele Colangelo, Hermes, and Louis Vuitton. Christophe Lemaire was able to create fluid movement with the durable material making it look light and crisp to wear for spring. Although everyday people may not take to wearing all denim outfits, but having statement denim pieces will be the wearable denim trend.
Louis Vuitton
Rebecca Minkoff
Chloe
Valentino
TEXTILES: LACE Lace seemed to be very popular within fashion week across all the different cities. Some of the collections that stood out were Valentino, Chloe, Rebecca Minkoff, and Louis Vuitton. The types of lace ranged from laser cut to hand loomed. One of the favorites is Chloe, the barley there lace that just covered the important parts were very light, airy, and whimsical. The white laces
really give the clothes some femininity, especially within the structured collection of Louis Vuitton. The lace color varied from stark white to warm creamy tones. It really played with sheer layered fabrics and over layers. It seems that there will be lots of layers in the spring due to the sheerness of most of the fabrics. It is all tastefully done despite the opacity.
TREND:SHOES
SHOES:GLADIATOR
Chloe
Chloe
The New Gladiator With thinner laces that crisscross up your legs instead of encasing them like a ribcage, the 2014 version of the gladiator sandal is much more delicate than the short lived trend in 2008.
Hermes
The new twist on the gladiator can be both short and to the knee depending how bold one wants to be. It can also be barely there encasing around the foot, or kind of heavy like a baroque shoe sole.
TREND:ACTIVE SPORTSWEAR
ACTIVE SPORTSWEAR: COLLABS Lately the most talked about fashion news has been the H&M collaboration with designer Alexander Wang. It was announced May 2014 and was just revealed October 2014. After his SS 15 show came out there was much speculation that it will have a similar active feel. His H&M line is extremely active but meant to be worn as normal street wear. This collection is very powerful, it shows strength just with the solid silhouettes and color. The theme in itself of strength within the women’s wear section is very prevalent within today’s culture, because of the recent popularity of women’s rights and feminism. With the hype of this collaboration many other companies got on the band wagon to enhance their marketing voice, as well as meet the customers’ needs of affordable

designer clothes. Some of the few designer/celebrity collaborations are, Stella McCartney with Adidas, Giselle with Under Armor, and Beyoncé with Topshop. Each of the collaborations have had an active theme, and they all have had a very different take. Alexander Wang was strong with logos. Stella McCartney had a casual work out feel, still feeling very feminine. Giselle kept with the Underarmor extreme work out feel. While Beyoncé’s 50/50 joint venture with Topshop will be active wear as street wear, which seems to be inspired by the ss 15 shows. These are not the first of the designer collaborations, it just seems to be gaining momentum. It is an important trend within the fashion world to monitor and consider as a retailer

ACTIVE SPORTSWEAR: LUX Active Sportswear is a huge trend throughout the SS 15 runway shows. It seems to be a tickle-up trend appearing from street-style blogs, and sections in magazines. It is being pushed by the consumers rather than designers because, the consumer is looking for something they can wear to the gym then go run about their daily lives. Modern day no one is slowing down, they are looking for something luxurious and comfortable for their daily lives. Although on the SS 15 runway they do not have pieces that would directly convert from gym wear to street wear, they showed many pieces that were inspired by sports and
the gym environments. For example the stand out designer for this trend is Alexander Wang, no competition. His whole collection was inspired by the running shoe, from fabrics, patterns, colors, and silhouettes it was very much accomplished. With those sleek lines, and breathable and moveable fabrics it will be a luxurious sportswear, which resembles active wear for the consumers. As creative director, Alexander Wang even translated this active feel in Balenciaga. It is seen most within the aerodynamic lines of movement, and the netting fabric.
Akris
ACTIVE SPORTSWEAR: LUX Akris also showed quite a bit of sports influences, such as the clean lines and light colors, and hemlines resemble tennis uniforms. Completed with how the looks were all styled with a visor, it was very much an active sportswear collection meant for everyday wear. Another show that took a unique take was Philip Lim. He had on design detail in particular that looked like the lacing

on baseballs. Another baseball theme was AA Antonio azzuolo, he had a unisex collection that was styled with sneakers as well as baseball hats. The picture featured has an umpire like feel to the whole outfit. This theme of active wear as street has been building up to an explosive trend. By the time spring 2015 rolls around, it is going to be huge and every smart retailer will be a part of it.
TREND: WHIMSY GOWNS
Albeta Ferretti
WHIMSY GOWNS: LONG-CHIFFON Long billowy chiffon gowns have gone in an out of style a few times throughout history, the silhouette originating from the classic tunic in roman and Greek times. It is a classic style that is fun and feminine, and when it’s a trend everyone wants to be a part of it because it feels very glamourous wearing a long swishy dress for an everyday look. During the SS15 shows this revival was done in a new and refreshing way. Alberta Ferretti added the lace trend and 70’s inspired styling that is very interesting view. It is the perfect mix of
Altuzarra
Chloe
sheer and covers all the right places for a daring women. Altuzarra focuses on movement, and has many layers of the chiffon to make the feminine floral print new and dynamic. Chloe creates a new never seen before neckline, consistent with a lot of the looks they sent down the runway. It mimics the flow of the dress as the model walks. The long maxi dresses are a very wearable trend straight off the runway and it will be important to keep this trend in the back of your mind for spring 2015 as the weather starts to defrost from the cold winter months.
TREND:CINCHED WAIST
Altuzarra
CINCHED WAIST: BELTS/TIES Belts were all over the runway cinching the waist, and creating an hourglass figure. Throughout the shows a uniform inspiration was very prevalent, and the cinched waist is just another latent example of that theme. Women in general have been wearing oversized within the past few seasons and they are starting to show off the beautiful womanly figure again with cinching the waist closer to the body. Altuzarra as depicted above has the model wearing a button down which originated in menswear, making it a dress and cinching the waist really makes it feminine and sexy in a classic way. Another play on this trend was featured in the Badgley
Badgley Mischka
BCBG Max Azaria
Mischka show, although not all looks were cinched this on in particular was belted. It seems to be a play on the “New look” created by Christina Dior in the 1950’s. Although this look is a very modern way to do it with a cropped top and a sleek belt and layers of chiffon. Within the BCBG Max Azaria show every single look was tied at the waist, resembling a robe, or the back of an apron tying together. The garments were still looser, but tied loosely which I think with be the upcoming trend to follow. A light cinching of the waist with wither a tie or a skinnier belt, so it’s still looser fitting creating a faint illusion of the hourglass figure.
