FITNESS&WELLNESS

Tips for the Summer Time Workouts

With late summer upon us, hot and humid 80 plus degree days can feel overwhelming. Running, biking, hiking, even walking feels harder in the heat, so here are some tips to help you get through your Summer workouts.

Be flexible about when you work out Become conscious about checking the weather, and find out when temps are going to be the lowest that day Sometimes it's early in the morning, and sometimes late in the evening, so you'll need to rearrange your schedule to fit in exercise during the coolest time of day

Invest in some wicking clothes Lightweight, breathable, wicking clothes are a must They'll pull moisture away from your skin, so you really do feel cooler

Change up the type of workout to fit the temps On super hot and humid days, choose cooler cardio activities like biking in the wind or swimming in cold water

Exercise in cooler places Hit the trails in shady woods or along a breezy beach shoreline It can be 10 or more degrees cooler than the sunny streets in your neighborhood

Exercise in the rain It's so exhilarating to feel a little sprinkle on your skin while out for a run or bike ride

Shorten or split up your workouts Summertime heat may make it a tricky time to push yourself, so if you can only handle 10 minutes at a time, do what you can, or exercise twice in one day

Slow down your pace If you're set on getting in a 30-minute workout, move with less intensity or do intervals to avoid overheating. Remember it's OK to take breaks too. Head indoors. Now is a good time to take advantage of an air-conditioned gym. Burn calories by following along with fitness DVDs, jumping rope, running up and down your stairs, or doing strength training routines at home.

Drink water all day, not just before or after your workout. Staying hydrated will help prevent some of the symptoms you may experience from exercising in heat such as dizziness, stomach cramps, and headaches. During your run, sip four to eight ounces of water every 15 to 20 minutes.

Eat foods with a high water content. We know staying hydrated is vital to a healthy, fully functioning body. After all, our bodies are more than 60 percent water, which is responsible for transporting oxygen, fat and glucose to our muscles, as well as digesting food and getting rid of waste Yet drinking the daily recommended amount of water can be a challenge Luckily there are fruits and vegetables that supply an ample amount of water, in addition to vitamins and minerals that do more than just keep you hydrated Examples are: watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, oranges, raspberries, cucumber, iceberg Lettuce, celery, green peppers & spinach

EVENTS

&

There is so much for all of us to celebrate in August

Our beloved CCN is turning 30 this month Incredible! Imagine the number of memories, events, tournaments, and celebrations that have taken place at our beloved club for the past 30 years. To all of our members who have been with us since the very first tee shot hit by Nicklaus himself, or the very first member holiday party hosted by Mr Hattori, we are so grateful and appreciative of your dedication to CCN There are no members like Country Club of the North members. We cannot wait to continue celebrating with all of our members in the coming weeks, months and years as we all witness the transformation and renovations that are in store

As Director of Private Events and Catering, I am thrilled to announce we have new package offers for corporate meetings, seminars, and events. These packages include the use and introduction of our new Promethean Smartboards The Promethean Smartboard is a game-changer for our Audio-Visual offerings at CCN The system is the combined benefits of a whiteboard, search engine, virtual meeting facilitator, and more. It combines all the benefits of a tablet, laptop or desktop computer, projector, screen, camera, and whiteboard all into one You will soon see them stationed and installed throughout the clubhouse It’s an exciting and one-of-a-kind addition for our members to take advantage of Along with the Promethean Smartboards, we have also created customized half and full-day package offerings that include food and beverage options for the ultimate professional gathering experience Please feel free to reach out to me by phone or email if you would like to receive more information on our corporate package options and availability.

A Note of Clarification:

As most of our members know, as of May of 2022, Country Club of the North announce that it will now be a Member-Only or member-sponsored venue host

There has been a bit of uncertainty amongst members, based on the feedback I have received, as to the true definition of a member-sponsored event

As a member, if you have a colleague, friend, neighbor, associate, or a friend of a friend that is interested in holding their celebration, business meeting, awards dinner, charity event, holiday party, golf tournament or outing, and you are willing to associate your name and membership with that request, that connectionregardless if it’s a direct or a few degrees of separation, they can reserve their event at CCN. The event, gathering, celebration or meeting, does not have to have the member present at the official event and the member is not responsible for the financial obligations of the booking. There is no higher compliment to the club, and its staff, than recommending our services and venue to others.

Keep an eye out for our catering platters-to-go and additional catering options for home or office coming later this month. Delivery will be available to homes within a five-mile radius of the CCN community. Looking forward to celebrating 30 years and thriving with you all this month. Cheers!
