We establish our basic guidelines for the season plus discuss any changes to current events and what new events we may want to consider. If you can't attend the meeting, your comments and suggestions are still welcome; expect to see an email in the beginning of October asking for your input. We've had great success in implementing some of those responses, so please think about what you would like to see for 2025! Oh, and, as always, if you would like to join the Committee to help out on those events, we're always looking for new faces!!!!

COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Fall is here even though summer wanted to hang on in September Drought conditions, warm weather and fall agronomic practices kept us on our toes this month Projects coming to completion and fall work beginning we are excited to reflect on accomplishments this month

With the challenging drought conditions, we worked very hard this month with turf recovery on tees and tee surrounds Running roller bases around greens and spot watering areas our irrigation system has shown deficiencies has been our focus to get us through this tough month At the end of September we focused on seeding areas that struggled to survive through the drought We also made fertilizer applications and aerified many areas throughout the course to get our course back in great shape before winter.

Fall agronomic practices were completed to greens and tees in the month of September We 3/8" core tined our greens, followed up with a heavy top-dress and brushed the sand in The next week we were able to verticut and top-dress our greens as well We aerified our tees with a 5/8" core tine busted up the cores and drug the sand back in the holes and removed the thatch We have also been spot topdressing and seeding struggling areas on our tees after their aerification Unfortunately, our tees took a hit from the heat and drought conditions after aerification but after syringing, seeding and multiple fertilizer applications they are recovering very well We will begin fairway aerification at the end of September and beginning of October We will be coring the fairways with a 3/4" core tine with our brand new Toro 1298 aerifier Following aerification we will be cleaning up the cores, verticutting and topdressing with 10 ton to the acre of topdressing sand.

Oheil Site Solutions has completed the final waterfall! Our waterfalls have turned out amazing and are a beautiful enhancement to our course The trickling water on our revamped water features creates a beautiful and relaxing feeling to your round Oheil also dredged and redefined our creek on hole 16 as well which makes the maintenance much easier and more playable for seasons to come With the waterfall complete, the creek redefined and seeded we will begin building new walk bridges for holes 3,8,10,11 and 16

The 2024 season here at CCN has been extremely busy with many projects, course enhancements and improved course conditions We are excited to keep moving the needle forward for our membership and will continue into the fall season with excitement to complete more agronomic practices to improve our course as well as some in house projects.

If you have any questions or concerns pertaining to the golf course or grounds, please feel free to reach out to me at kbutts@ccothenorth com

GOLF

FROM YOUR MGA

By the time you ’ re reading this October CCN newsletter, the thrilling Ryder Cup competition will have concluded, and a champion team will be crowned! This much-anticipated year-end MGA event has its roots in the club's early days, thanks to the visionary efforts of Bob “Polo” Miller and Don McNamee, the original masterminds behind both the MGA and the Ryder Cup format.

This year's competition will be led by our dynamic Hattori Cup and Men's Member-Member champions, Dave Pendry and Roger Wentworth Stay tuned for the results, which will be featured in the November CCN edition!

Thanks to the successful completion of the bunker project, our course is now in pristine condition no more temporary tees or greens! While this summer presented its challenges, we managed to keep the MGA daily games rolling, making necessary adjustments as conditions evolved We also paused the weekly low gross and low net games to build a fantastic year-end payout fund

One important topic discussed by our MGA committee earlier this year was the posting of scores during the bunker project After careful consideration, we decided to post all MGA scores, making adjustments for holes affected by temporary greens or tees to ensure fair play With the project now complete, we ’ re back to our regular score posting If you play at CCN, or even at other courses, remember to post your scores in the GHIN system Looking ahead to 2025, the MGA committee will continue discussions on how to maintain accurate handicaps that reflect each golfer’s skill level

Mark your calendars for our club championships on the weekend of October 5th and 6th! We’ll feature competitions from the gold tees, including net, senior, and super senior categories A portion of the MGA funds from our weekly low net and low gross games will be awarded to top finishers as shop credit, just like our MGA payouts. Keep an eye out for Matt Fraser’s email with online registration details for all competitions and expect updates on the MGA payout right before the event.

Lastly, due to the bunker project, the MGA committee decided to forgo the CCN Invitational typically held in July. However, we ’ re excited to announce a one-day Super Stag Day in October, providing you a perfect opportunity to host guests and showcase the stunning bunker renovations. This special event will take place on Friday, October 11th, so stay tuned for more details from Matt!

Get ready for an exhilarating fall at CCN!
