It has been a tough stretch, but as a Member of the Club, I want to share some stories you can be proud of When the hurricane hit just a few short weeks ago, staff Members from every department were reaching out to me asking what they could do to help the Club They wanted to get the courses back ready for play as quick as possible to get you back on course We certainly could not have done it without them
With new leadership in the Agronomy department, we saw an amazing response The efforts that team put in after the hurricane made all the difference in getting the course back open I also want to circle back to some communication from Members that I have received The gratitude and overall concern for the well-being of our Club, course and staff has been overwhelming. It was a true example of the selfless mentality our Members have toward our continuous goal to make BlackHorse better and better.
As we transition to August, I think back to a word I have used a lot in the month of July - temporary. This is a temporary moment and challenge that is out of our control, but soon we will be on the other side and advancing our goals and objectives with Godspeed. I can tell you the work going on behind the scenes are unlike anything I have seen here.
To be more specific, Alex (new Super) is reshaping his team to truly set us up for long term success You could call it a rebuild, while still using some of the good bricks we already have here It has me more energized than ever and I look forward to better days ahead, starting with some great weather in August - fingers crossed!

Thank you to everyone that came out and joined us at the All-Member Party We always enjoy getting everyone together and celebrating the good times It was like Christmas in July and it really has me excited for the Member Christmas Party this year I don’t think it is ever too early to start thinking about that event This year, we will host that party on Wednesday, December 4th Mark your calendars now and make plans to be a part of the fun
While we are talking about things to come, it is a good time to update everyone on some big upcoming events at the Club. For those of you gearing up for the Club Championship, those dates will be September 1415. Just like last year, all divisions will be contested on the same weekend. You can find the registration link in this newsletter. Also, you can expect information on the BlackHorse Derby, the Member-Guest Tournament which will take place on October 25-27 We are excited and looking forward to both of these marquee events
I have had some time to spend with Alex (new Super) and I am really encouraged by his knowledge and commitment This is something you probably don’t know, but he has been here for about 45 days and has not missed a day of work yet He is passionate about what he does and takes it very personally I tell that story because I think it is important to everyone to know what is truly happening on the course It has been a tough stretch with weather and we have been playing a lot of catch up given the resulting conditions, but good things are coming I can’t tell you how excited I am to have that guy on our team!
The Stable Member referral program has gotten off to a great start Thank you to those of you that have referred a new Member If you don’t know the perks of referring, please stop by and chat with me. I would love to learn about who you think could be a great addition to the Club and let you know how we can thank you for bringing them into the BlackHorse family.
I also hope many of you will join us for BlackHorse Night Out! Last year, we incorporated Member trips into the calendar. Many of those were overnights. This night out is local here in Houston at East River 9 (pictured right) You may remember Julian, a former Assistant Pro here He is now the Head Pro as East River, which is a nine-hole, par-3 golf course He has arranged a night of fun for our Members Spots are limited so sign up quickly if you have not already August 7th at 8 p m is shotgun time!

It has been a tough couple of months for this Club as it relates to weather. I came in right in the middle of the tornado and Hurricane Beryl and the heavy rains to follow Early indications make August look like a much better month, but we will see We are certainly hoping that we are on the better end of the forecast for the rest of the year!
Prior to my arrival, the Club made an investment in two tri-max mowers These are the red pull behind mowers you may have seen in tow behind the tractors These not only do a great job in the rough, but also helped us during these challenging times with the fairways With all the rain and extremely damp conditions, we were not able to get out and mow fairways on the regular, like we would like and normally do We were able to lower these mowers down to fairway height very easily as we began stepping the turf back down to the condition we expect We are also spraying our fairways with the next round of growth regulator Because of the weather, this too comes delayed but will help in promoting the lateral growth we like to encourage with Bermuda while limiting the vertical growth
When challenges come, you have to make plans to keep moving forward as best as possible We were not able to execute our July aerifications, so we will be adding those processes to our August DryJect schedule We will start on the North course with core aerification on August 6th and wrap up with DryJect on August 7th We will do the same to the South on August 13-14 respectively Believe it or not, Bermuda likes to be beat up and will improve the overall quality of the greens
As we continue to catch up on mowing, we turn our attention to September and the Club Championship. We are excited to keep improving the course in anticipation for that event.

The Beer Crawl was one of my favorites all year We hope you had a great time We had another fun Trivia Night to wrap up the month of July “Rip the Sip Its” took home the title in a close battle during the final category This month we have a lot of social action, including the Chef’s Tasting on August 5th, Family Feud on August 14th and the Sip & Paint on August 21st
A message from Chef: The Chef's tasting on August 5th will be a great opportunity for members to try some items for the next updated menu It is hosted in the pavilion with six (6) bite sized food stations The stations will have a description of the items offered and Chef will be available to answer any questions members may have about the food, as they move from station to station, we will have the bar open, and drinks will be available.
