WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Well June was one of the hottest and driest months I can remember in a long time. It rained for two minutes on June 20th and besides that we just ran the irrigation system a lot! June is a great month that I am partial to. My son celebrated his second birthday on the 27th and being with my two kids on Father's Day is an awesome experience. It was great to see many of our members and guests on the course celebrating Father's Day with their dads and kids. Being a father myself has given me a greater appreciation for what that day is all about. As a fan of the game, the U.S. Open was fun to watch. It was one of those events that you just didn't know who was going to win until the very end. The fairway bunker shot that Matthew Fitzpatrick hit on the last hole was amazing. Graham offers a great tip on page six on how to hit better fairway bunker shots, which was the key to Fitzpatrick's par on the last hole to win the toughest test of the year in golf. This month we are looking forward to more Member-To-Go Dinners, more Couples' Golf and the introduction to Play with the Pro (read more about it on page nine).

MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR Neil Sherrod

I know I say this a lot, but the membership at BlackHorse is as strong as ever, and it is certainly a good time to be a part of the Club. As we continue to become a more member-centric club, you the member will benefit from more offerings and the continued effort we make to bring a country club feel to a semi-private facility. With Graham onboard now, we are ready to get to work on different golf programs that give you more opportunities to play golf, compete, socialize and have fun around the Club. I encourage you to get involved as these programs begin to come to fruition. On that note, we are going to introduce new ideas with a methodical approach to make sure we can get them off the ground successfully, but trust me when I tell you new and exciting ideas are being tossed around our offices that will soon benefit our membership and I am excited about that.

I think it is safe to say that the launch of Couple's Golf in May and June has been a huge success. We are excited to continue this in July with the idea that this becomes a monthly staple program here at BlackHorse. I am also looking forward to Play with the Pro and think this is something you are going to want to be a part of! Got Friends??? Do you have friends or family that you enjoy playing golf with that you believe would be a great addition to our Club? Our member referral program is in place to thank you for introducing me to your personal contacts. If they join the club, you get rewarded. Simply stop by my office, email me or shoot me a text to help me make the connection and I will take care of the rest. Thank you for your continued support of the Club and we look forward to the fun and exciting things coming to the Horse!

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE David Franks Before we discuss what’s going on around the course, I’d like to offer a friendly reminder to adhere to all cart rules, ropes and stakes on the course. Also, please continue filling divots and repairing ball marks on the greens. To say that we could use some rain is an understatement. Our last measurable rainfall occurred on May 25th. U.S. drought monitor has our area in the D1 or moderate drought and current conditions along with forecast have us trending towards a D2 or severe drought. I would ask you keep carts on the paths as much as possible, and to stay away from visibly dry areas to keep any unnecessary stress off the grass for the time being. We are monitoring and giving all dry areas extra water in the mornings and again in the afternoons when possible. Wetting agents, which aid in the penetration of water into the soil profile, are applied weekly to greens, and every 3 -4 weeks on fairways, approaches, collars, and tees. We will begin supplementing more wetting agents to dry spot in those areas as well as immediate roughs. Our greens aerification on the North course went extremely well. We verticut, brushed and mowed all greens and then performed a small hollow tine aerification that removed some material from the upper three inches of the grass and soil profile. We then top dressed with sand which was allowed to dry and dragged in. The process was finished off by rolling the greens and watering them in. The greens also received a granular fertilizer application to help recover. We completed this same process on the South at the end of June. My email address is dfranks@blackhorsegolfclub.com and feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your membership and continued support of BlackHorse Golf Club.

GOLF PRO SHOP JUNE RESULTS & MORE Taylor Mingen I want to highlight one of our members, Janice Hawk, for a unique accomplishment this month. Janice made her first ever hole-in-one on North #14 back in May. On June 28, she made another ace on the same hole, with the same club! Janice has asked if her group can play the back nine of the North every day! With all kidding aside, congrats Janice!

GOLF WHAT'S NEW IN GOLF? Graham Brannon First, I want to take a moment to thank the Membership for the warm welcome to the Horse. I have not been here for a month yet, but am already feeling right at home. I look forward to getting to know more of you in the near future, hopefully many of you at our new golf event, Play with the Pro on July 8th! This is going to be a mildly competitive event centered around having a good time with fellow members and your golf professionals at BlackHorse. When we send out the link to sign up, be sure to join - you won't want to miss it. If you have not been to the range recently, we have introduced some new range toys that we think you are going to like. The first additions to hit the range were the new ball crates. These have replaced the old (ugly) den caddies that were ready to retire! The second is the new FLAGD golf system. This provides you with digital yardages to the six main colored flags on the range. No matter where we move the tee, the yardages will adjust and reflect an accurate distance. Lastly, we added new flags in different locations on the range.

Golf Tip of the Month If you watched the U.S. Open, specifically the last hole of the championship, you saw one of the greatest fairway bunker shots I have seen in a long time. Matthew Fitzpatrick had to avoid a lip, cut the ball and generate enough spin to hold the green. And oh by the way - do it all with the pressure of a one shot lead on the final hole of the U.S. Open! Next time you are in the fairway bunker, there are two key takeaways from his shot that you can apply to your game. Number one is stability. If you go back and watch his shot again, you will see how stable he keeps his lower body. This helps to ensure clean and consistent contact, which leads into the second part: ball first contact. In greenside bunkers, you want to avoid contact with the ball, but in fairway bunkers you want to strike the ball first and then take a divot in the sand as if you were in the fairway.

We have also added some new menu items so be sure to come check them out and enjoy. Our team had a great team building exercise last month, dining together followed by some very competitive bowling. Holly (pictured right) was the champion of the evening so be sure to congratulate her the next time you see her at the Club!
