GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

What an amazing month of March it was The MemberMember was one of the most fun events I have ever been a part of, especially on the staff side of the equation I have been a part of a lot of events, and say this very candidly I enjoyed the time and getting to spend quality time with our Members during the event We had some fun with "Not So Live", doing video segments during the round and talking with y'all about your rounds, all in real time (or slightly delayed) I appreciate everyone's willingness to have fun with this After the first day, even Austin Sherman lightened up and had some fun I think his back was just hurting a little bit!

#ClubChampJoke

Congrats to Caleb Geels and Chris Hill on their victory in the event It is always fun to win, but to grind as

much as you have to in a Horserace, let alone three extra playoff holes, it has to feel even better We are already looking forward to next year's event The more we (Jesse and I) get to know each of your personalities, the more fun it is for us too!

Also, a quick reminder that starting this month, if you choose to pay by credit card for your statement or any transactions at the Club, a 3% convenience fee applies. The Club does not collect this fee - it is paid directly to our third-party credit card processor.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

Did your March Madness brackets get flipped upside down like mine? I started off doing ok, having predicted the Virgina loss, but after that, bracket buster after bracket buster brought me back into another "not perfect" year of trying. That's ok though, as it is still a lot of fun to watch those games. I look forward to seeing who can pull this thing off.

After that, it's time for us to take a trip down Magnolia Lane! You know I always like a little action on sporting events and this year we are going to do Masters squares again If you recall from last year, you will purchase squares, just like you did during the Super Bowl Then you will get two golfers and their combined scores each round will determine our winners The golfers on the board will be the top in the world golf rankings that are in the field

On top of that contest, we are going to give you a chance to win my money For every square you buy, your name will be entered into a drawing If a Texas Native (born in Texas) wins the 2023 Masters, we will draw one of your names and I will pay for a $500 gift card for you (current Members only)

WIN NEIL'S MONEY!!!

For every square you buy o the Masters board, your nam will be entered into a drawin

If a Texas Native (born) in t Masters Tournament wins, w will draw a name and tha person will win a $500 gif card courtesy of Neil!

Changing the subject, I am so happy to see so many of you participating in the complimentary Member clinics Jesse is excited too, and if you have participated, you already know that. At the end of March, Jesse had over 20 people signed up for the chipping and pitching clinic. I know he has four more this month, so make sure you are signed up! You can find the links in this edition of the newsletter.

Lastly, please refer to Craig's email about updating your payment information With our switch to the new thirdparty payment processor, all Members will have 60 days to update their payment information, whether that be through wire transfer with your bank, or a credit or debit card on file If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me

We have added some great Members to the Club this year thus far, with many of them being referred by y'all I can't tell you how much we appreciate that and look forward to seeing you at the course in April

COURSE MAINTENANCE

Our maintenance team kept busy during the past month with several tasks to benefit the courses All greens were ninja tine aerified (this is the name of the aerification tine we used) that pulls a very small core to remove some material from the surface, but not enough for most players to notice or affect ball roll We use this tine during the winter months for that reason and switch to a much larger tine during the summer when we can recover from it better The greens were heavily compacted from the amount of play we had over the fall and winter and this process was much needed Following the aerification, greens were top dressed lightly to help smooth the surface We are committed to top dressing more this year to dilute organic material (this is the natural process of old growth of the turf grass breaking down into the soil structure), which can lead to a softer surface The sand also aids in ball roll and speed

We began mowing roughs on both courses to clean up some of the winter growth and provide a cleaner look to the courses Lots of work was done around the clubhouse, pavilion, and parking lot area New plants were added where needed in front of the clubhouse and pavilion, and clearing the remaining bushes and roots from the parking lot beds was just about completed This area will be ready to possibly add either mulch, rock, plants, fencing or a combination of all

Bunkers received their first fly mow and edging of the year and we will soon be checking depths of sand and adding where we can. Lots of weed eating of trees, fences, and other miscellaneous areas were completed, along with a few drainage and irrigation repairs to prepare for the summer.

Moving forward to April, both courses will receive a much needed application of granular fertilizer coated with a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent spring and early summer weeds. Our yearly mole cricket and ant insecticide applications will be made in April to prevent mole cricket activity that can damage our turf and keep ants away for the season. We will continue to top dress greens at least once, possibly twice We will forward those dates out to the pro shop so you can plan accordingly around the around those applications Plans are also in the works to sod areas around the courses, mainly fairways, tees, and collars where needed if approved Lastly, while I know things have greened up a lot, we are still not in full grass growing weather I ask you to repair ball marks, sand divots, and adhere to the blue stake rule and all stake and rope on the course It’s been a long winter with lots of play and stress on the turf without being able to heal itself, and avoiding those areas will be helpful in them recovering when we do start growing grass I know a lot of you all do this already and a giant thank you for your help

We have two new trees on the golf course If you recall, the winners of the Member-Member have for three years now, had a tree planted in their honor We have added the tree for the 2022 and 2023 champions now In 2022, Roddy Hebert and Bryan Chesnutt won and their tree has been planted behind the green on North #10 Our 2023 Champions, Caleb Geels and Chris Hill have a tree planted behind #12 green You can see both of these honorary trees pictured below Both are Live Oak trees and require little maintenance to survive They too can withstand longer periods of time without water

I will have another maintenance update at April's month end, so stay tuned My email address is dfranks@blackhorsegolfclub com and feel free to contact me with any questions Thank you for your membership and dedication to BlackHorse Golf Club

HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

I am three months in and having a lot of fun here at BlackHorse. Y'all have been very welcoming and fun to be around. I love being in the golf business, but as you know the people are what make getting up everyday worth it.

The participation at the Member Clinics has been great We have been in double digits for many of them, enough to where I am tagging Jacob in to help me I really appreciate the great response and feedback to these clinics, and I hope you can make it to this month's editions

The Member-Member was the highlight of March and boy was it a good one! It took three play-off holes in the Championship Horserace to determine a winning team Ultimately, Chris Hill and Caleb Geels were crowned the 2023 Member-Member Champions Along with the commemorative plaque, Stallion Cup points and pro shop credit, those guys have a Live Oak tree planted on property in their honor Be sure to check out all the results on page eight of this newsletter.

Each month now, we will also be featuring our Top 22 in the Race for the Stallion Cup points. This year's Stallion Cup was a lot of fun and we are already looking forward to next year. It will be interesting to follow along with the updated points all year long to see who makes the field for 2024

PowerBall is back! We did not have a winner in March, so the pot has begun building and we will see if a team can make a skin and then have some luck! This was a Member favorite last year, so be sure to sign up for the next event and join in on the fun, and possible winnings.

Ladies, don't forget our BHLGA plays on Tuesday mornings We have teamed up with BHLGA leadership to enhance the experience for our lady golfers This includes having professional scorecards for every event, online registration and an easy-to-use tournament software to help run all events moving forward We are excited about the changes and look forward to doing more with the ladies of BlackHorse in the near future!
