GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

When they say to enjoy the good times while they are here, they must mean it January started with some great weather and really good opportunities to get on the golf course As you know, it ended quite the opposite I shared a phone conversation with a member just the other day and we were talking about the movie, The Perfect Storm If you have seen it, you will understand my reference to what we experienced at the Horse this past week Mother Nature and Father Time are two undefeated forces that we learn to live with, rather than try to beat This week, Mother Nature added to the win column Just like always though, brighter days are coming, and I believe we will see some great golf weather as we progress through February Part of the reason we live where we do is so that we only have to experience the cold

winter weather for short periods of the year We will soon be reminded that we live in Houston - you know, when it's 90 degrees in the middle of March!

I am excited to join a group of Members at the Golden Nugget for the STPGA Foundation Pro-Pro-Am-Am tournament This is one of my favorite events of the year and we are going to have a lot of fun If this is something that interests you, be sure to let Jesse or me know so that we can work on a future trip with you!

I specifically want to thank so many of you for participating in the photo of the month contest Those have been a lot of fun to see what you are seeing As I said, better golf days are coming, so see you soon!

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

Neil

I believe the way to get the most out of your membership is to share it with others Weather that be with exciting members or friend/family that you bring to the Club to play occasionally But what if you don’t have a ton of friends outside of BlackHorse that play golf or maybe you don’t know any other members at Club? I’m here to help I have many different paths to get you better connected to the Club. Selfishly…That the good stuff for me. But when you see these deep sometime lifelong friendships created through the game of golf…There’s nothing better. So if you ’ re looking for a game, wanting to play in a tournament/league, or just someone to grab a beer with after a round….Please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m always happy to help.

While Mother Nature did not cooperate in January, we had planned to have some special member guest rates for you and your guests to take advantage of We will bring that back again and sprinkle more days like that in throughout the year

As you know, there has been some changes at the club in recent years That, coupled with weather and rescheduling issues, left us without a Stallion Cup last year which we were disappointed with We know the fun that event presents and are looking to elevate the prestige of qualifying and playing in this tournament That is why we made the decision this year to include qualifiers from 2021 and 2022 This year's Stallion Cup will be a little bigger, but it will be fun We are looking forward to this event on February 25th!

COURSE MAINTENANCE

As Craig mentioned, it was a tough end to the month of January with the flooding that took place on the course. I can assure you our team was doing everything we could to clear drains and ensure that our pumps were working to the best of their abilities. I thought what many of you probably did - where was all this water back in the summer? I do not anticipate any long-term damage to the turf. As you know this time of year, the grass is not growing so it takes longer for water to soak up or run off. I would please ask that when playing, just continue to fill those divots and fix ball marks.

We are very pleased with the overall performance of the extra seed with put on the range, along with the extra fertilizer we applied after the Christmas freeze. We are going to increase our range days on the turf to include Thursdays. This means our planned range days on the turf will be Thursday through Sunday.

You may have also noticed the work that we have done around the parking lot. Our team has removed the bushes and plants that once lined the perimeter. We are looking into a few different options of what gets replaced there. Please continue to use the normal cart paths to get to and from the range and courses and do not try to cut through these areas with your carts. We appreciate your help with this in advance.

With some erosion during the last few weeks, we have plans to get some bunker sand in. We will be working to get our depths back to optimum levels and improve overall playability.

I will have another maintenance update at February's month end, so stay tuned My email address is dfranks@blackhorsegolfclub com and feel free to contact me with any questions Thank you for your membership and dedication to BlackHorse Golf Club

The driving range will now be on the grass ThursdaySunday unless otherwise noted.

PHOTO OF THE MONTH

This photo was submitted by Maxine Aitkenhead in early January, you know back when we saw sunsets in the evening! We had a record number of photos submitted (over 15) for photo of the month in January It was tough to decide which one was a winner, but this photo encompassed the feeling of a nice evening on the back patio of Roper's Grill enjoying a quiet evening and sunset If that doesn't sound relaxing, we are not sure what does! Maxine has won a $25 gift card and two complimentary guest passes. Please see Neil to redeem your prize.
