GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

We certainly ended February better than we started it Those heavy rains were not good for golf, but it was nice to have some fantastic spring weather in the month of February One of the highlights of the month was the 2023 Stallion Cup! We were very excited to reintroduce this event to the membership and really look forward to the season-long Race to the Stallion Cup 2024!

Remember, playing in events earns you participation points, plus playing well can earn you additional participation points The top 22 in points at the end of the year qualify for next year's event It was great to see some fun, friendly competition during this year's event I also enjoyed seeing Jesse flip into Jesse's Pond (newly renamed) after being announced as the losing captain He was a good sport!

March kicks off with the Member-Member, which is three straight weekends of member event golf at the club! That is exciting We look forward to another great event full of nail-biting competition

I am excited to announce we have hired a new chef. On March 6, Chef Edgar Concepcion will join our team. Chef Edgar previously served in rolls at the Clubs of Kingwood and Federal Grill. I got to taste some of his food recently and was very impressed. I know once he gets his feet wet, he is excited to bring some new offerings to our club and continue to help enhancing the member experience

Lastly, a few of our members joined Jesse and me at the Golden Nugget for a Pro-Pro-Am-Am event We had a great time and would love to do more of these if you are ever interested! Just let us know

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

I know February is the shortest month of the year, but that was still a super-fast month! It was great to see everyone out for Angels and Demons, and the Stallion Cup.

It is nice to have the Stallion Cup back on the schedule. The Ryder Cup is so fun to watch and when we can have a club level event with similar feel, I think that gets everyone excited.

March is every golfer's favorite month I think because the time changes back, offering us an extra hour to play golf in the afternoon With that comes the return of our MGA events and a new Club favorite, PowerBall! For our new members out there, both of these events feature nine-hole formats in the evenings and foster and environment of fun competition and camaraderie Be sure to look out for more communication from Jesse and his team on those events

I am so glad that members are taking advantage of Jesse's complimentary clinics! These are designed with you in mind and we want you to be there If you have not figured it out yet, Jesse is full of energy and a lot of fun to be around That alone is worth your time, plus he is going to show you some tips to help your golf game at no cost to you!

You know I am a big sports fan, and now that football is over, my attention shifts to college basketball. This year, BlackHorse is going to host our own bracket challenge! We are going to take something many of you do every year anyway and let you have some stake in the game and have a chance to earn some gift cards to the club

Be on the lookout for all the details surrounding this challenge and make sure to get in on the action

If you are not following us on our social media channels, you are missing out on some great member content We are on Facebook and Instagram and feature a lot of what's going on at the Club each week If you are personally posting while out at the Club, be sure to tag us so we can stay connected!

Thank you everyone for a great February and we look forward to more of this great spring weather in March

COURSE MAINTENANCE

While the month did not start the way we would have liked, it certainly ended that way You don't have to look hard to see that grass is growing and as a superintendent that grows grass for a living, this is a welcomed sight

We still have a little room to go before we get to the magic 150 degree mark, where the high and low temperature combined equals 150, but we are getting close and have had a few of those days sprinkled in already I would certainly be in favor of an early spring, and would really be ok with an elongated spring that keeps us out of the 90's for weeks to come

Our team did some training during the month of February that I believe is going to continue helping with overall course conditions and playability Most notably is our tee placement Our team was guilty of only using the middle of the tee box and moving forward and back

Now we are utilizing the left and right sides

The tee markers may be a little closer together, but overall, this is going to help us manage turf and conditions on those boxes better I have received feedback from many of you that our tees did better this winter than many before and I am glad we were able to make those improvements

Also in the month of February, we battled a fungal disease on some of the greens that were targeting the root systems They are continuing to heal nicely and will trend in the right direction moving forward Another February project we are still working on is the landscape around the parking lot We have some options on how to proceed but will first come in and smooth over all the areas we removed roots Please refrain from driving here and continue to use cart paths to navigate to the range and parking lot

I will have another maintenance update at March's month end, so stay tuned My email address is dfranks@blackhorsegolfclub com and feel free to contact me with any questions Thank you for your membership and dedication to BlackHorse Golf Club

HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

We are having such a great time at the Member Golf Clinics! Please, if you have not already, make some time to come join me for some complimentary instruction. I'd love to spend some time with you and help your golf game a little too!

I can't believe I have already been here for two months They certainly went by quick but hopefully we have had a chance to meet If not, please stop by and see me Names are never the easiest to remember so don't hesitate to remind me that we have met if you are seeing me again!

I think everyone would like to think that something would be named after them one day I didn't think I would have that opportunity this early in my career, but as the losing Stallion Cup Captain, we know have "Jesse's Pond" behind the club house In case anyone wants to know, when you get out to the middle, that pond is way deeper than you might think Hopefully I can send Jacob for a swim in next year's event The Stallion Cup is one of the more fun events I have ever been a part of. I love team golf and really appreciate the fight out of all my guys. I want to congratulate Jacob and his team for some great play and even better sportsmanship. We had a lot of fun out there and I heard that from many of you.

The Race to the Stallion Cup 2024 is already underway

Make sure you are playing in events and if you are not scoring position points, come join me for the complimentary member clinics!

To all of our ladies, our BlackHorse Ladies Golf Association is as strong as ever If you or someone you know is looking for a fun group of ladies to play with for fun, friendly competition (or not), look no further than the BHLGA! Congrats to our February Ace of Aces Qualifier, Kimberly Kim Also, congrats to Jennifer Greengrass for winning the Mardi Gras Play Day last month For more information, contact BHLGA Tournament/Play Day Chair, Sarah Pyles at BHLGA2011@gmail com

Let's have a great March and I look forward to seeing you on the course!
