GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

From all of us here at Golf Club of Houston we would like to wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season. As we begin to wrap up the 2022 year, I am very proud of what our team has accomplished to make Golf Club of Houston one of the premier clubs in town. From the addition of ArrowFit, to the clubhouse refresh, to the fun and competitive events, both golf and social, 2022 was a very successful year

We still have some great events scheduled for our membership in December We will soon be hosting the Tournament of Champions to determine the overall champion player of the year We have several other traditions we are excited about, from Brunch with Santa to Gingerbread House making, and the Ladies Ornament Exchange all to be held within the first few weeks of December As we look forward to 2023, we would like to thank you all for being a member at Golf Club of Houston

CE

I’ve told many Members, guests, and friends that I currently have the best office in Northeast Houston. It’s an honor to be the Director of Agronomy over two of the finest golf courses in the Houston area and all the practice facilities that make up Golf Club of Houston

Even though our area experienced one of the worst droughts in history, we were able to maintain quality turf with very few unsightly weed plants Willie Hoppe has done a commendable job of keeping the turf viable with limited amounts of reclaimed water

We never expect to be mowing heavy clippings on bermudagrass in November However, this year was an exception To harden off our turf in all areas of the golf courses, we applied Potassium and minor/micronutrients This helps prevent freeze damage in case a dry norther comes down We have been fortunate that both cold spells have been in conjunction with nice rainfall It is not the ideal situation for golf but is always the best for our turf

Overseeding our practice tees is a must because of the amount of practice that we experience We will continue to fill divots and apply seed until late March We use a 3 way perennial rye blend which has approximately 250,000 seed per pound Our initial rate is 650 pounds per acre We will fill divot lines weekly when possible and apply an additional 300 pounds or rye per acre

Mother Nature throws us curve balls often On Friday night of Men’s Member Guest we took a hit Four large oak trees blew down and 8 large trailer loads of small to medium sized limbs were removed in order for play to resume Our Maintenance Team rose to the occasion and the tournament was completed without a delay

We have been blessed this growing season with phenomenal playing conditions Our goal as a maintenance team is consistency and attention to detail in all areas of the golf courses and practice facilities Kudos to Willie, Brad, Jack, and our entire Maintenance Team for a growing season well done

PRIVATE EVENTS

PRIVATE EVENTS

Just in the nick of time, with the majority of the Clubhouse renovation complete, we hosted our very first Wedding Celebration in our beautiful new surroundings! Not even a day with constant rain and temperatures in the mid 40’s could dampen the enthusiasm and joy of the couple and their families. We received rave reviews on our fresh, bright and modern upgrade of wall surfaces, light fixtures and beautiful flooring in the entry hallway. Together with Chef Moses’ delicious catering selections and specialty “Marry Me Margaritas” served to the guests, a wonderful time was had by all. If a family member, neighbor or friend is searching for the perfect Wedding Venue have them visit us to learn more about our wedding services.

ARROWFIT

GET AN EDGE WITH YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

Did you know that 40% of resolutions are fitness related and 80% of all resolutions fail by February? Why is the failure rate so high? Because of our habits

Just like a computer program, our habits are programs that we follow subconsciously The longer we have them, the more momentum they have When we try to make a change cold turkey, as with a new year resolution, fighting that momentum can be difficult

Our brains are not fond of changing habits abruptly, which is why many of us sabotage ourselves with resolutions. However, there is a way to increase our success… Build a new habit EARLY.

If fitness is in your future, start now. Choose a simple activity that you can absolutely commit to completing every day. For example, you commit to performing 10 squats every day. Since it is simple and takes only 1 minute, you can commit to do these everyday no matter what you cannot end your day until you complete the squats. Mark it daily on your calendar to show your progress. Do this for the whole month of December and you have primed a new habit of fitness that will put success on your side come January 1st.
