We say goodbye and good luck to our Plantation Course Professional, Miles Chapman, on December 9. We know Miles will be a wildly successful professional and wish him nothing but the best as he moves on toward a professional teaching career He did a great job at Kingsmill
December is a great time of year around the Club It's great to see the holiday cheer around the recreational outlets with decorations, trees, and lights. Jillian’s artwork at The Sports Club is incredible! We have a great month of holiday events, including the Member holiday sale, glow golf, and carriage rides. We hope you can relax and enjoy the festivities with your family
Happy Holidays!
James
Gabel | Director of AgronomyThe leaves continue to fall and so our leaf removal processes continue through December Low temperatures and consistent morning frost will push our warm season bermudagrass into winter dormancy. Our cool season bentgrass greens slow in growth but don’t go dormant in the winter. It's important to always check with the Golf Shop for frost delays During a frost, the water inside the grass blades freezes, causing the expansion of the cell walls. Walking or stepping on the frosted grass can break the cells and severely damage the plant tissue. Therefore, we always wait for the frost to thaw before opening the courses for play
Winter projects are also in full swing in December. All dead trees and stumps will be removed and any broken or hanging branches that could be a possible danger will also be removed Pond banks and native grass areas will also be trimmed down for the winter months. Thank you for your continued support!
GabelAnd before you know it, winter is here! The most important part about playing golf during the winter season is keeping warm. And one of the best ways to keep your entire body warm on the golf course is to keep your hands and head warm first. Winter golf gloves and beany caps are your best option for these frigid months along with hot coffee or tea at the turn Another way to keep warm on the course is to walk instead of riding a cart. The more movement that is created, the more heat is produced.
This will be my last Golf Rules & Tips as I have embarked on a new golf journey but do not fret, the golf department is in the best of hands with our amazing professional staff. I thank you for the memories and all the well wishes and hope to see you down the road.
Best, Miles Chapman, PGA
