MESSAGE FROM THE PRO SHOP

Billy Van Arsdale

We have had great weather for late May! Low humidity, mild temperatures, and light breezes but we all know it will end soon! Its Hydrate season. The first step in daily hydration is always water. Popular sports drinks are great and necessary but they should be the second half of proper hydration If you are only drinking a sports drink before your round the electrolytes will be used up by your body. You want electrolyte replenishment during and most importantly after a round of golf. Water is the main source for hydration! Load up on water first!!

Ladies 9 Hole Golf League

The LGL hosted an invitational tournament, Run for the Roses on May 1 We had 84 players from 18 different clubs for the scramble and luncheon Our theme was Run for the Roses. The weather was wonderful and everyone enjoyed the event. Special thanks to Maureen Pellegrini and her committee for making this day a success.

Women's Golf Association

On May 18, the LGL had their closing day for the 20222023 season Karen Villanova and her committee did a great job with the theme “Take a Shot” as we celebrated our golfing triumphs. In addition to the prizes for the closing day scramble, prizes for the ringers were awarded – most improved, best ringers score, most pars, most birdies and best attendance Some of the winners are pictured here

Although the season has formally closed, the LGL continues to meet every Thursday at 8:30 for golf and brunch. We’d love to have you join us.

May 16 saw the members of the WGA enjoying a special lunch to celebrate the end of an awesome season. Before golf a lucky foursome received some gifts celebrating our fantastic season and the upcoming Memorial Day Following golf a meeting was held during which President Margaret Subers cited the many highlights of the season. She noted that this year ’ s officers would remain in place for next year ’ s season They are: President-Margaret Subers, Vice-president-Diane Olbrys, Secretary-Heidi Fitzgerald, and Treasurer-Linda Kantakevicius. An earlier audit by Virginia Nowakowski determined that the treasurer’s records indicated that all accounts were accurate and up to date. Margaret thanked all the committee chairs for the conscientious work of each of their groups. Some new faces will be seen heading committees next season: Barrett Anders-Social, Gayle Hey-Membership, and Karen Villanova Angel Tree. After the meeting prizes were distributed for Ringers, Birdies, and the efforts of the winning Purple Stableford team members! We bid farewell to our league members who will spend their summers in the North and wish them a happy and healthy summer!

Men's Golf Association

Congratulations to Rich Kawa, winner of the MGA’s 2023 Spring Shootout in a chip-off on the 18th hole, defeating the ageless wonder, Jerry Chiddister in one of the closest shootouts ever MGA Shootouts are similar to the FedEx Cup (minus the $15M championship bonus!). Players earn points based on their finish in the weekly games and the top 10 in the points standings meet in a Shootout three times a year Play starts on the 10th hole, with one participant eliminated on each hole, by chip-off if necessary, until only two remain on the 18th. Rich and Jerry survived the controlled chaos that is the first few holes and made it all the way through. When they tied the 18th hole with net bogeys, it went to the chip-off, where Rich emerged victorious

Many thanks to Billy Van Arsdale, who did his usual stellar job overseeing this hectic event. Thanks also to MGA Tournament Director Gary Biermann and a cast of volunteers, who did a great job marshalling the players around the course It is certainly an experience watching 10 golfers and their caddies work their way down the 10th fairway under the particular brand of championship pressure that the Shootouts entail.

We are just starting our summer season so if you ’ re looking for a great group of guys to play golf with every Wednesday, come join us Contact the pro shop or email the Men’s Association (ghmgafl@gmail.com) to be added to the game any week.
