Whether you are a new or seasoned member and need to be connected socially, our staff will assist you in finding social clubs and groups that may fit your network. GOLF RULES & TIPS
Grip Pressure Impacts Distance
The grip pressure that you apply on your golf club affects more than how quickly the grip will wear down and need to be replaced Here are few reasons why you want to have an awareness on how tightly you hold the golf club:
A softer grip will allow a better “feel“ for the weight of the golf club When the golf club feels heavier due to a softer grip pressure, distance potential increases
A softer grip, combined with more spine tilt towards the ball, increases the players ability for “lag," which also produces more potential distance Some of you might not have learned that the golf club is designed to rotate at the bottom of the swing A softer grip will increase the chances for wrist and club rotation, reducing glancing blows and sliced shots to the right for a right-handed golfer and will produce more shots going toward your target with more distance
The most important and least understood concept of grip pressure is the realization that holding the club with a softer grip pressure when starting the backswing is not the key and is seldom effective
In order to gain the listed benefits above, grip pressure needs to be reduced during the downswing, which is usually when golfers naturally tighten the grip Loosening your grip pressure during the downswing is the opposite of what your body wants to do! Hence, it takes training; you can start the process around the chipping green and work your way to longer swings.

LINDAMAHER
Linda Maher is from from Mullica Hill, NJ (or as New Jersey people say Exit 2 on the Turnpike). She has recently retired from a position as the Assistant DeanStem division and Assistant Golf Coach at Rowan College of South Jersey; however, Linda is still teaching Biology classes part time online. Linda has a daughter who is working at Pfizer in research and a son working as a risk analysis in the energy industry in NJ, so now it is my turn to go back to playing like she did in her 20’s. She enjoys golf, hiking, gym, biking, investing, and anything food related – being Italian it is in the genes. Linda loves the neighborhood and appreciates everyone being welcoming and helpful.
A few fun facts about Linda is she attended the Presidents Cup this year, the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews last year, the 2016 PGA, the 2009 Players, and three Women’s US Open. (Anyone need a plus one for the Masters?) Linda also went to the New York Stock Exchange. Guess who photo bombed.

FITNESS UPDATE
Caroline Boyd-Castelly
Happy March from CTCC Fitness! How often are you training your core muscles? Strengthening the core stabilizes the whole body, which ultimately can improve balance, decrease back pain, help prevent injuries or falls, improve posture, and support athletic or physical performance. Bonus is, we don’t need to be doing crunches, sit-ups or boring exercises to get stronger. There are a number of ways we can target core strength, including yoga, cable exercises, stability & balance training, and resistance training.
Give these exercises a try to strengthen core (option to include a dumbbell):
Dead-bugs
Bird-dog (repetitions & holding)
Bridge hold
Superhero hold
Plank (forearm or straight arm hold)
Modified plank
Single leg balance
Kneeling wood chops
Lateral steps
Getting stronger requires consistency, exercise efficiency, and patience Take your time performing core strength, that way we prevent injury or pain, and localize the correct muscles. Not sure how to perform the movement safely and effectively? Come receive guidance in a CTCC Fitness Class or send an email to fitness@carolinatracecc.com.
