GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

Welcome to September and cooler days ahead Last month set and tied some summertime records in our area and we are glad to put August in the rearview mirror I hope everybody enjoyed their travels during the month of August, hopefully somewhere cooler The course has some recovering to do even with the agronomy team working extremely hard last month with a focus on plant health during our extended drought Some timely rain and cooler weather will certainly help our turf as we move toward fall Capital course projects are complete except for some landscape work and finishing up the gate projects Shadow Hawk has several great events coming up this month and we hope that you join us for member appreciation on Saturday September 2nd and our Labor Day festivities to kick off the month Please continue reading as the department heads have included some nice updates for you. We look forward to seeing you around the club and if there’s anything I can do to be of assistance please let me know.

TURF TALK

September, the back side of summer, and what a summer it has been so far Record-setting heat accompanied by record-challenging and breaking drought

The month of September is a month when most cultural practices are behind us, and it is a time to recover from the many stressors endured over the past couple of months Cooler weather and some needed rainfall will also help us get the course dialed back in Projects are coming to an end, and we are pleased with the SOX lake bank erosion and bridge projects Moving forward we will focus on details and returning to premium playing conditions Our plan is to continue with our nutritional, soil, and PGR (plant growth regulator) programs, making slight seasonal adjustments when necessary The next scheduled pre and post-emergent herbicide application will also take place this month

It is great to have a complete Agronomy Senior team in place as we move toward fall We are thrilled to have Mike Anderson as our new Shadow Hawk Golf Club Superintendent Mike performed double duty in July and August before moving over full-time from Black Hawk Chris Teafatiller has settled in nicely as the new Superintendent at Black Hawk and Jose Tostado is hard at work and enjoying his new role as our Equipment & Facilities Manager

September usually means those of you who had the opportunity to escape to more favorable climates are slowly returning Club events and the Fall golf season are getting underway, and the Agronomy team is energized and committed to making it a memorable time for all

Couples Nine, Wine, and Dine - September 9th

We would like to invite our couples to participate in this event on Saturday, September 9th The event will be a 3:00 p m shotgun The format will be two-person teams playing a net best ball followed by dinner and wine in the clubhouse We hope that you can make it out for this fun event! Ladies Fall Guest Day – September 19th

We would like to invite our ladies out to participate in our Ladies Fall Guest Day. The event will be held on Wednesday, September 19th with a 9:00 am shotgun. The format of play will be four-person teams playing a 1-2-3 ball with 1 ball counting on the par 5’s, 2 balls counting on the par 4’s, and 3 balls counting on the par 3’s. Teams may be comprised of two members and two guests or three members and one guest. All teams must have at least one guest participating. The event will include breakfast, lunch, and prizes. The entry fee for members is $50 and the entry fee for guests is $100. Please sign up by using the Golf Genius app or by contacting the pro shop at (281) 340-7205.

A-B-C-D Scramble – September 30th

Our first-ever A-B-C-D scramble has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 30th at 9:00 a.m. The event will be a four-person team scramble. Members will sign up individually for the event and then will be flighted by handicap. The pro shop will then form teams. This will be a great opportunity to meet new members of the club. Following play, we will have our Oktoberfest festivities being held at the club. Hopefully, you will be able to make it out for this fun day of activities at the club. The entry fee for the event is $75 per player. If you would like to sign up, please contact the golf shop at (281) 340-7205 or by emailing Adam Creed at acreed@shadowhawkgolfclub.com.
