URBAN SECTIONS: A STORY FOR CHATTANOOGA This is a short representational story exhibiting how urban sections helped expose a swath of Downtown Chattanooga. This territory held potential for continuing the growth and development of Chattanooga’s waterfront considering the site is directly adjacent to the Tennessee River, AT&T Field, the Tennessee Aquariums, and the existing riverfront amenities. The major goals of the design include: connectivity, river engagement, accessibility, wellness, and recreation.
AQUATIC RAMBLE ALCOVE As The Ramble crosses into the site, an unique experience awaits wandering pedestrians. Burrowing out an intimate cave-like environment, users can engage with the newly created recreational facility without having to enter the building. Locker rooms and weight training facilities are also immediately adjacent to The Ramble.

PEDESTRIAN POOL PROMENADE As one of the main drivers of our program, recreation had to be further emphasized within the site. embedding an Olympic size pool provides a positive environment that promotes longevity and wellness. To supplement the competition pool, a strand of trees buffer the northern pathway from Riverfront Pkwy.

RECREATIONAL RETAIL PLAZA Using a pond ribbon to buffer the urban roadway, this plaza is just the beginning of new urban amenities to build on the success of Chattanooga’s Riverfront. The recreational retail building also serves as a watercraft rental service for Chattanoogan’s and out of town adventurers looking for easy ways to engage with the Tennessee River.

RIVERWALK APRON This concrete apron serves as a launch for watercraft vessels into the river as well indexing the river levels throughout the day. This launch apron connects to the lower level of the recreational retail that also serves as storage for M.F.P’s and other watercraft vessels.

AT&T FIELD | PEDESTRIAN TRACK [ALTERNATIVE] Replacing the tall obstructive outfield barrier, a new glass wall along AT&T Field’s perimeter creates opportunities for the public to engage with urban baseball. This track is connected to The Ramble by several vertical circulation nodes along the north edge of the hillside.

GREEN PIER At the northern edge of The Ramble, this green pier seeks to dissociate users from the downtown context to a more sublime connection with the Tennessee River. The top surface of this pier consists of soft scape in the form of grass, plants, flowers, and trees that provide an abundance of shade.

RIVERSIDE CAFÉ Directly adjacent to the recreation retail is a café that admires the Tennessee River. Here, one of the northern legs of The Ramble runs along the outdoor patio. The café boasts a full kitchen separated from the indoor seating that fosters a formal, intimate setting. If you find yourself near the café, you’ll also find outdoor seating before being engulfed on the Green Pier.

RAMBLE STAGE When first analyzing this territory, we understood that this site served as a multi-functional surface lot that complimented many downtown events such as: triathlons, Little Debbie Ironman, The Riverbend Concert Series, and more. Designing a stage for performing arts and entertainment on the territory only seemed proper. This stage can be used for a myriad of events, gatherings, and competitions.
