Why this programme?

W

ithin the framework of the school’s Corporate Research Centre (CEREN), faculty members produce top-rate research in different areas of expertise. On the basis of one of these research areas, «innovation, clustering and entrepreneurship», in Spring 2012 Burgundy School of Business launched a short-term programme in Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation in which creativity, art and entrepreneurship are closely intertwined through various experiences within different fields.

The Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation two-week course is based on the following fundamental principles: • Entrepreneurship is defined by the close interaction that connects one or more people with an economic, social or cultural project that creates value: the action taken by the entrepreneur changes the project and, conversely, the evolution of the project contributes to the change of the entrepreneur. • The entrepreneur must continuously adapt to change due to unstable business environments and uncertainty.

• Entrepreneurship is not only genetic: it can also be taught and nurtured. • Entrepreneurship is a unique and complex activity that is developed in real life and therefore cannot be entirely taught in the classroom. • Learning entrepreneurship requires experiences that help us link who we are (our experience, our knowledge, emotional functioning) with the project we are undertaking.

The next edition of the programme will take place from January 11th to January 22nd 2016. This course has definitely redefined my initial understanding of Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation. Shane

Academic Content • 70 hours contact time: classes, workshops, company and cultural visits • 10 hours personal/group work and journey diary-keeping • 8 ECTS / 4 US credit • Issuance of a completion certificate Over the two-week period you will discover the three main components of the entrepreneurial process and how they are closely linked. As entrepreneurship is strongly linked with creativity, you will learn how to convert creativity into innovation. It is important that we consider innovation not just as a technical process however as a major adaptable process abut as a process of adaptation, affecting entrepreneurial activity in an ever changing business environment, both at an internal and external level right up to the stakeholders. To help you reflect on the programme you will be asked to keep a journey diary in which you will write down your thoughts on the course. This diary will help you through the process of discovery, whereby the main elements that link creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship will become clear by the end of the two weeks.

Entrepreneurship and Creativity My time spent here during the creativity sessions I feel nurtured and helped my creative side to come back to the surface.

What is it? You will be encouraged to reflect on yourselves and the way in which you look at one another. An artist will help you create a self-portrait and then ask you to describe your portrait to the rest of the group. It is the latter which helps you to reflect on the links between yourself, your project and the environment in which you act – a process of reflection that most entrepreneurs go through. Do they know themselves well? In addition, do they know how and why people and social groups interact with their business?

How is this done? 2 days of art-based creativity with a local artist in conjunction with the innovation class. You will be asked to establish a link between art and entrepreneurship and develop a creative outlook on business practices.

What are the results? Through this creative process the learning objectives are to develop personal awareness and more understanding of yourself and how you interact with others in different situations with ever changing circumstances.

Entrepreneurial activity

MIME®: 2.5 days Problem Based Learning What is this?

The M.I.M.E simulation helped me to experience first-hand what it’s like to be an entrepreneurial manager, thus improving my knowledge of entrepreneurship. Janeczka

Through the MIME© method, you will discover the functioning of the company and the role of the manager-entrepreneur. This business simulation will allow you to synthesize your knowledge on the subject and put it into practice. You will develop critical thinking through problem-based learning.

The activity directly reflected the real-life problems individuals face when starting up a business and the challenges and obstacles they must overcome to succeed.

How is this done? Firstly, you immerse yourselves into the world of business and business entrepreneurship taking on a managerial role in your own start-up. You will have to make decisions, be organized, deal with uncertainty and adapt to the economic and social environment to which you belong. This first experiment is designed to help you identify key knowledge of company operations and find your way through the joys and difficulties of the entrepreneur’s daily life.

What are the results? To develop your business management skills through this thorough business simulation, where you will have to interact with your ‘business partners’ in the team and quickly adapt to the ever changing environment around you. Also to recognize the importance of roles, leadership and efficiency in the running of your business.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation I think that the company visits were a great way to show us examples of how different types of companies with different growth strategies can both still able to reap profits.

What is it? You will examine what innovation means from an entrepreneur’s perspective. What is an innovative mind? How do we innovate? What role is played by the entrepreneur in order to be innovative? Senior experts will help answer these questions through discussion and analysis of case studies. You will also meet innovative entrepreneurs through scheduled business visits.

How is this done? 12 hours of seminars with constant immersion in the corporate world. You will visit 3 companies and have the opportunity to exchange views and perceptions on business concepts with the entrepreneurs / company managers.

What are the results? To understand innovation’s invaluable role in contributing to the success of entrepreneurial activities. This includes the importance of adaptation - to learn how best to explore and even exploit an opportunity that presents itself in the context of organizational change. This part of the course enables you to pin theory to practice in real-life businesses. This part of the course is worth 25 % of the overall mark.

It was great to test the knowledge that we had recently gained on entrepreneurship and innovation by meeting innovative French entrepreneurs.

The centre of Dijon, France’s third largest historical area of national heritage, covers an area of over 100 hectares (more than 250 acres) of churches, built between medieval times and present days, stately town houses dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, and medieval half-timbered houses.
