Arrival A fast speed train (TGV) links Paris to Dijon in approximately one hour forty minutes. Assuming that the students provide information related to their arrival schedule,pick up service can be arranged at the railway station in Dijon.

Immediately after arrival, students participate in an orientation session which introduces them to academic and student life in Dijon.

In order to benefit from the overall study abroad and cultural experience, students are housed with local families throughout the city. Most housing is within walking distance of Burgundy School of Business and the center of Dijon. Every student has a private room and only one student is placed with each host family. The host family provides breakfast and three evening meals per week. Students can have lunch at the Burgundy School of Business cafeteria for less than 6 euros per meal from Monday through Friday. Although living with a family is recommended, the option of staying in a student hall of residence can also be offered to a limited number ofVstudents.Students registered on the internship option of the program and who will be placed too far from Dijon to be housed in Dijon during the internship period of time will benefit from on-site housing.

Optional activities and cultural events In addition to the field trips organized by the "French Culture and Society" faculty members, optional cultural activities such as outings to the various museums and parks of the town, the Opera House, to music festivals in Dijon and Beaune, to wine tasting sessions or cooking classes can be organized. Financial participation will be required from the students.

A powerful economic region, Burgundy lies within the European “Northern capital cities” area which accounts for almost half (47 %) of the income generated in the European Union and represents a third of the European population.

It is ideally situated, in the heart of Europe, within easy reach of 6 European capital cities, and less than 2 hours away from Paris. Burgundy is a region which invests in the future, pioneering research in sectors such as pharmaceutics chemistry, materials science, food and taste science, virtual reality, the environment, biology and health.

Burgundy School of Business is located in Dijon, the capital of Burgundy. One of the best preserved historic centres in France, Dijon artfully combines tradition and modernity, and is one on the most desirable towns in France in terms of quality of life.

French Culture and Society (3 Credit Hours) Students will be able to better understand how French society works by studying French beliefs and values, idiosyncrasies, and cultural differences between French society and theirs.

Background to Burgundy History Burgundy and France Field trips in Burgundy will be associated with the lectures.

Welcome to Burgundy, known in France as “the land of great art and good living”,a region rich in cultural heritage, famous for its historic architecture, gastronomy, wine and viticulture.

French as a Foreign Language (3 Credit Hours) Students will take a 6-week immersion course in French at Burgundy School of Business. The course content is based on an intermediate level but a similar course may be offered to beginners or advanced students according to demand and total number of students. The general objective is to develop listening practice and oral expression. Listening, speaking and writing aim at giving students the opportunity to communicate in French in an effective way.

This class is divided into thirty 90-minute sessions. The themes are illustrated by examples from French and international, social, political and economic life. Media used: press, video.The acquisition of know-how is carried out according to the capacity and needs of the students.

Optional Internship (3 credit Hours) June 28th to July 16th 2010

Students approved for an internship are assigned to a local, regional or national organization for 3 weeks (35 hours a week). A minimum of an intermediate level of French is required to apply for an internship.

Required work and form of assessment Internship and weekly journal (25 %), evaluation by internship sponsor (25 %), final report (50 %).

Guidelines A pre-screening interview is conducted on the phone to evaluate the student's goals and level of French.

The student will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae and cover letter which in turn is presented to the sponsor for consideration prior to the first 6 weeks of the program in Dijon. Once the student is accepted for a position, the sponsor clearly outlines the content of the internship and an academic tutor is assigned.

The sponsor is required to provide continual updates on the student’s progress throughout the assignment.

At the end of the assignment, the sponsor evaluates the student's performance and contribution to the firm. The student is expected to write a conclusive report analyzing the position held, the work performed, the knowledge gained through the experience and the role of the firm in the local economy. Academic guidance is provided throughout the internship.

Content Placements can mainly be found in organizations related to tourism and cultural events (e.g. public offices, hotels, wineries, music festivals), in services (e.g. banks) as well as in public administration offices (e.g. Chamber of Commerce, Regional Council). Internships can also be offered in other economic sectors according to students' specific areas of interest but it cannot be guaranteed. Internships can be located in Dijon or elsewhere in Burgundy. If the work placement is not in Dijon, on-site housing will be provided.
