2023 OPCEA Membership Guide

Message from the President

Iam honoured to be the 2023 – 2024 President of the Ontario Pollution Control Equipment Association (OPCEA). With the third anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are now returning to the new normal. Hybrid meetings with Teams and Zoom are still a part of our daily activities, school kids have returned to their classrooms and our industry has for the most part resumed normal operations.

Monthly OPCEA board meetings are also a mix of Zoom and in-person events, which has enabled us to keep the association running smoothly.

OPCEA held its last annual general meeting (AGM) in April via Zoom. This year’s AGM at the 2023 WEAO Technical Symposium and OPCEA Exhibition at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel in April marks the return to an in-person event.

At this technical symposium and exhibition, OPCEA is pleased to support the Operations Challenge, Totally Wasted Game Show, and the OPCEA Monday evening reception.

The 2022 OPCEA Golf Tournament was held in September and was a huge success! The 2023 OPCEA Golf Tournament will be returning to its original time slot in June. We look

forward to another great outing at this year’s tournament with continued friendships and rivalry on the course.

Membership for the year 20232024, which starts in July of this year, will enable attendance at next year’s exhibition at the first ever joint WEAO/OPCEA – OWWA conference and tradeshow in Niagara Falls, taking place in June of 2024.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank John Devlin for his service as President last year. I would also like to thank the OPCEA board members and administrative staff, who have all helped to maintain and expand our activities. All of them did their part in supporting the association.

Founded in 1970, OPCEA is dedicated to assisting member companies in the promotion of their equipment and services to the pollution control market sector of Ontario. I would like to thank all the member companies that continued their support during these strange and uncertain times.

Rapid Assessment Technology Services (RATS Inc.) has redefined the assessment process by providing municipalities with comprehensive acoustic network condition data in a fraction of the time and cost required by the old, costly CCTV methods

Our patented acoustic technology provides real-time blockage assessments and records the condition of approximately 3,000 Meters of 150-450 mm gravity sewer lines per day Using the most commonly used mapping and database platforms, Municipalities receive a whole-network map and condition report pinpointing the areas which require the more expensive and resource intensive CCTV and repair crews only where needed – usually less than 25% of the entire network!

Municipalities now can focus their high-cost resources only on the small percentage of the network that represents a potential service disruption or hazard to the community
