COACHES CAMP ANDOVERVIEW PLAYERS

LEARN FROM THE BEST

As a camper at Union Soccer Schools, you will receive unrivaled on-field instruction. Our coaching staff features top college and high school coaches, collegiate athletes, and appearances from Philadelphia Union players and coaches.

PROS Meet and learn from members and coaches of the Philadelphia Union. Here are a few of the coaches and players that have made guest appearances in the past.*

UNION PLAYERS KEEGAN ROSENBERRY #12, DEFENDER In 2017, Rosenberry made 14 appearances (11 starts) at rightback in his second professional campaign, registering one assist. He made two appearances (two starts) in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. For Bethlehem Steel FC, Rosenberry made one regularseason appearance (one start) at rightback. Rosenberry joined the Union as the third overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft and immediately put together a strong rookie season, playing every minute of every regular-season match, the only field player to achieve that in 2016 and the first rookie to do it as part of a 34-match regular season. He was runner-up in the MLS Rookie of the Year voting and won the MLS Individual Fair Play Award after not receiving a single booking throughout the campaign. He scored two goals throughout his rookie year, including the game-winner against Columbus on August 25, 2016, and started the Union’s postseason contest at Toronto FC. In 2015 at Georgetown, Rosenberry was named first Team NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region. Over his four years with the Hoyas, he made 90 appearances and scored four times.

ANDRE BLAKE

#18, GOALKEEPER In 2017, Blake made 26 appearances (all starts) for the Union, compiling a 9-10-7 record with a career-best nine shutouts. He was named a finalist for the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the second straight season. He was called-up by Jamaica to represent the Reggae Boyz in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, leading the team to the final and winning the tournament’s Golden Gloves award as well as a Best XI nomination. The first overall selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by the Union, Blake broke out in 2016, starting 32 matches for Philadelphia en route to being named the 2016 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. Also named an MLS All-Star that season, Blake totaled 99 saves, six shutouts, and a 1.56 goals-against average.

UNION COACHES JIM CURTIN

HEAD COACH Initially serving as Interim Team Manager in 2014 Curtin led the Union to its first U.S. Open Cup finals in franchise history. Following an impressive first year in charge, he was named Head Coach of Philadelphia Union on November 7, 2014. Curtin attended Villanova University where he was named Big East Rookie of the Year in 1997 and two-time first team All-Big East. Additionally, he was a 2004 MLS All-Star and won two U.S. Open Cup Championships as a defender with the Chicago Fire. In 2016 he led Union back to the playoffs for the second time in franchise history.

RICHIE MARQUEZ #16, DEFENDER

A defender entering his fourth season with the Union in 2017, Richie Marquez emerged as a steady presence on the backline following a 2016 campaign that saw him play in 33 out of 34 MLS regular-season matches. Selected in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Redlands, Marquez made 15 appearances (13 starts) at centerback in 2017, scoring one goal. During a start vs. Portland (April 8), he scored his first goal of the season via a header following a corner kick from Haris Medunjanin. Marquez made four regular-season appearances (four starts) at centerback for Bethlehem Steel FC.

Please note: Each week will feature one member and coach of the Philadelphia Union including staff and players not listed above

CAMP OVERVIEW

8 VIRTUES: GROWING CHARACTER MUSCLES! We believe building muscles of character is similar to building physical muscles. Investing energy in each muscle stimulates growth. We thread opportunities throughout the camp day to strengthen these muscles, thereby making character development a key differentiator of the Union Soccer Schools Experience. It is our goal throughout the summer to provide campers with a personalized “tool belt” for individual success by engaging them in a wide variety of activities, rituals and traditions. As a result, Union Soccer School campers become stronger, healthier, and more resilient. We build upon family values and continue to shape the “Character Muscles” of our campers through our 8 Virtues of Character. >> GRATITUDE

>> TRUSTWORTHINESS

>> RESPECT

>> EFFORT

>> KINDNESS

>> RESILIENCY

>> POSITIVITY

>> COMMUNITY

We RECOGNIZE and EXPRESS thanks for the wonderful things in our life. This “Attitude of Gratitude” along with a “Good Morning” handshake and smile is how we start each day. It is what we refer to as “Going BIG” (Being In Gratitude).

RESPECT YOURSELF, RESPECT OTHERS AND RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT! This mantra, also known as The 3 Agreements, sets the expectation for developing behaviors that are conducive to facilitating learning, forming friendships and promoting a fun and safe camp environment! Sport teaches us about more than just winning and losing, it teaches us about life. There are moments when confronted with difficult situations that athletes in the limelight have to rise above everything, even the game, to show great SPORTSMAN SHIP. Kindness takes its rightful place when compassion and empathy provide more magic than a victory. This is the mark of a true athlete! We design and deliver experiences that fuel OPTIMISM and HAPPINESS in our campers! We practice and foster positive language and interactions which actively encourage a mindset of “positive focus” each day!

6

“ Building character drives higher achievement and greater fulfillment in sport, business and life.”

We develop LEADERS! Leadership opportunities are abundant for campers who demonstrate honesty, reliability, integrity and teamwork. They are entrusted with unique responsibilities at camp.

We celebrate the amazing talents, accomplishments and efforts of our campers. There are multiple awards and opportunities for recognition. We always explain the “WHY” so that campers appreciate and understand what each award represents.

We encourage athletes to think in terms of their own inner strengths. We believe in teachable moments and provide campers with the tools to become stronger with each endeavor. We help them to develop the courage and the fortitude to try new experiences, take healthy risks and learn from their mistakes.

We celebrate and build community while encouraging FRIENDSHIP, TEAMWORK and SPORTSMANSHIP! We commit to common goals and encourage our players to rally and support each other in both victory and defeat.
