THE PROJECT In collab. with: Newport Restoration Society Rhode Island School Of Design Van Beuren Foundation The historical neighborhood in Newport, RI called Point is facing the threat of rising sea levels. There have been more frequent storm surges and extreme floods within the past few years. The Memory Trace proposal intends to protect the memory of the Point neighborhood and introduces possible ways of living within the changing conditions of the surrounding environment. I was inspired by the Henri Bergson’s idea of the separation between the memory and physical matter, “memory remains even when the matter has been destroyed”. Using the process of casting to create a physical imprint of an object, this proposal traces the houses so that they serve as a placeholder of the past for the future while simultaneously sustaining the essence of the community.

THE PROJECT In collaboration with: GA collaborative Seeds of Life Rhode Island School Of Design Total Cost of Indivisual unit: $10,000 There is a shortage of quality housing in Kenya. The local population survives in poorly constructed houses. This project creates guides for the local population to create well designed and economical housing. The studio focused on innovations in sustainable building prectices and socially responsible design interventions. As most of the residents of Kenya do not know how to read english. Efforts were made to communicate using the drawings.

APARTMENT INTERIORS, NEW DELHI, INDIA JULY 2017
Front elevation of the Apartment which is cladded with Dholpur stone- a local variety. The facade tries to achieve a harmony between the use of wood , stone and glass.
FREELANCE PROJECT
THE PROJECT Date Of Completion: March 2016 Build up Area: 750 sq ft Total Cost: $75,000 Contractors: Vanbros I won the commision of the expansion and renovation of an high end apartment in Delhi. I directly engaged with the contractors. My responsiblities included everything from concept to the final completion. However, as I was not present in the country at the time of furnitioning. The furniture was bought by the owners with inputs from me. The challenge I faced while designing was to free up as much space as possible to maximise the living area while maintaining the proper ventilation, light and circulation space.

UNDERGRADUATE THESIS
THE PROJECT Guide: A. K Gupta Date of Completion: June 2014 Type: Office Building As the economy of India grows at 10% every year. The number of people who work at the tax department have also increased. Hence, they have outgrown the space present in the old lutyen british buildings. The new tax building will combine regional and national tax departments providing a greater co-operation between the two. The site is very close to the India gate which influences the urban design of the building. The building also is constructed on a land which prohibits the cutting down of trees. So the building is also constructed saving the existing tress on the site.

The polar caps and the ice on both the poles are melting at an unprecidented rate. This is raising the sea levels globally. The city is built in the future where majority of the earth’s land is covered with water. The city uses the ability of mosquitos, which are adept both in scaling walls and walking on water. A rare ability in the animal kingdom. Mosquitoes have small grooves containing pockets of air covering their legs. The surface tension of water makes it difficult for the water to seep into the grooves, keeping the mosquitoes high and dry. A similar concept is used by the city. The competition was done with a series of quick sketches.

THE NETHER, THRUST SPACE- TRINITY REP ELECTIVE FALL 2017
Photograph of the model showing one of the scenes in the play.
RISD
THE PROJECT Rhode Island School Of Design Prof. Lee Savage Wingspace Designs The design is a part of the scenic design studio. I made several sets which also included plays like Hedda Gabler and The tempest. However this set was the one which stood apart from the old design. The nether is a play set in future where humans have discovered a way to transfer their consiousness into a virtual world by computers. The virtual place is called Nether. Most of the play takes place in the interrogation room. However there are several transitions into the virtual world of Nether. This is one of the reasons that makes the play challenging. The play was to take place in a thrust stage which is very intimate experience. The audience surround the stage from all the three sides.

The interrogation room is the place where most of the play takes place. I thought of it as having only a table with the floor underlit. There will also be light under the performers as they will move in the space.

The sunny spot is a place which takes place in the virtual world. The future also doesn’t have trees so the virtual world has them.
