A Christmas Carol: Characters Scrooge
Scrooge owns a ‘counting house’ or mini bank in London. He started this business with Jacob Marley, who died seven years before the start of the story. Scrooge is rich but ‘cold’, ‘mean’ and ‘miserly’. He has no friends.
Bob Cratchit
Scrooge’s clerk. A kind, very poor man with a large family and a very sick son.
Jacob Marley
Scrooge’s former business partner. Died on Christmas Eve seven years before. Returns as ghost to warn Scrooge to change his life
Fred
The nephew of Scrooge and the son of his sister, Fan. Fred is the opposite of Scrooge: kind, happy, friendly, interested in people
Fan
The sister of Scrooge and one of only two people he has ever been close to. Fan rescued Scrooge from his awful school and is the only person to show him kindness in his childhood. Her tragic early death clearly marked Scrooge,
Bella
The fiancee of Scrooge who leaves him because she feels he loves money more than her
Fezziwig
The first employer of Scrooge and a wonderful rolemodel. Scrooge admired Fezziwig but did not follow his example
