Spokesman Steve Hawkins from Barker Storey Matthews told ESP – “It’s good to see such positive developments in Peterborough. We’re still going through the planning process and the city council is being very helpful. There’s a real demand in this part of the city which at the moment is under supplied.”

NANDOS FOR CITY CENTRE

And so are we as it’ll not only provide another welcome addition to the dining out scene but will also create more than 30 new jobs. Nando's is the home of legendary, Portuguese flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken served in a warm, fun and vibrant atmosphere. Each of their restaurants are individually designed with unique features and this one will be on Cathedral Square with seating for 100 diners.

NEW HEALTH CLUB FOR HAMPTON Forget the doom and gloom it’s all happening here in Peterborough! Plans for a new health club in Hampton are said to be advancing well with an operator already lined up. Designs for the club which will include a 25m swimming pool are being finalised and if everything’s approved building work could start by the summer.

HUBS PLACE Whittlesey’s not missing out on new developments either with the new bar and restaurant Hubs Place now open for business on the Market Place. If you haven’t taken a peek yet it’s looking good! This month is an ideal time to give the restaurant a try as they’re offering a special Valentine’s menu including tasty sounding dishes such as duck and plum terrine, rump steak, tuna, chicken stuffed with asparagus, desserts to share and a free bottle of wine all for just £20 per head!

Fans of Nandos restaurants will be pleased to hear the famous chain looks set to open in the city centre this summer! In fact they’ve had their eye on Peterborough for around five years now but have been waiting for the right spot. A Nandos spokesman told ESP – “We’re in negotiations at present and it’s all looking very positive. We like to go where there’s a demand for Nandos and its clear people in the area are right behind us. We’re very excited.”

Planning consent’s been given to extend the former Baccara building on Broadway and a new bar operator has made a formal offer on the site. Spokesman Steve Hawkins from Barker Storey Matthews wouldn’t reveal who exactly, but told ESP it was a long term investment from a national name making an investment of around £3.25m in the new venue. The conservatory area will be replaced with a two storey extension including an upstairs terrace area so watch this space for more details as we get them!

BROADWAY OPENS AT LAST! Get ready for the big opening night of the Broadway Theatre on Saturday February 12 with top dance group Flawless the opening act. The waiting’s finally over as the city’s biggest theatre re-opens with a bang so expect a red carpet affair. Some of the other shows already lined up include Joseph, Blood Brothers, the Chippendales, Abbamania, Spirit of the Dance, Elvis on Tour, Neil Morrissey and Jim Davidson among many, many more. Flawless have the sharpest new moves, the slickest routines and the hottest beats around, their breathtaking show Chase the Dream will start The Broadway Theatre’s new season in style!

NEW CENTRE @ HEMPSTED We could see work starting on some great new shops and a new neighbourhood centre at Hempsted within the next few months if the city council backs the plans this month. The £3million neighbourhood centre is part of a new housing estate between London Road and Drake Avenue. It includes plans for seven retail units in all, as well as 15 residential apartments above. Ben Sheppard of Sheppard Developments which has bought the site told ESP – “This is truly a mixed use scheme, and the neighbourhood centre represents a good mix of retail and

THE IRREPRESIBLE REPLICAS One of Peterborough’s favourite covers band, the Replicas, are playing a special gig at the Cherry Tree, Oundle Road on

Fans of the hit TV series Sharpe will instantly recognise actor Daragh O’Malley who’s best known as Sgt Pat Harper in the show. Well now you can see him live in the city when he appears at the Key Theatre as part of the national tour of Brian Friel’s critically acclaimed Dancing at Lughnasa, on February 14-16. The story’s set in the summer of 1936 and follows the story of the Mundy sisters, five brave Irish women facing the loss of love and opportunity played out against the echoes of the twentieth century with a dark humour, raw energy and tenderness. The show’s previously been produced in the West End and on Broadway, winning an Olivier Award and three Tony Awards and is an awardwinning film starring Meryl Streep and Michael Gambon. Now Daragh will bring it to life on the Peterborough stage.

LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE Here’s a fundraiser with a difference – Peterborough Rugby Football Club are hosting a Snail Race on January 29 for the U14 team’s European tour. The costumes are stunning as is the huge spaceship that comes down from the stars to take Ein & Stein on their journey of discovery. The spaceship alone is a huge feat of engineering, dominating the stage, almost completely covering the ice. The costumes are very inventive and children will love the bright colours and the many animal characters portrayed. The Producers

The fabulous performing arts students from Peterborough Regional College are performing the film hit The Producers, which is based on the original classic. It became a huge Broadway and West End musical hit and the students are ready to bring you a superb showbiz sensation. The story follows two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop, and complications start to arise when it all unexpectedly becomes a hit! BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

The Westwood Musical Society is returning to the Key Theatre with a new and exciting show. They’re bringing the much loved Disney classic Beauty and the Beast to the stage, with extraordinary dance routines and fantastic visual production. There’ll be all the famous characters: Lumiere, Cogsworth, Gaston and Mrs Potts, plus all the well-known songs including Human Again, Be Our Guest, and Beauty And The Beast. MERCURY RISING The ultimate Queen tribute band, Mercury, are ready to rock you at the Stamford Corn Exchange. They’ve been touring for over a decade now, and have firmly established themselves as one of the world’s most authentic tributes to the legends themselves – Queen. Lead vocalist Joseph Lee Jackson has extraordinary vocals and is backed by a superb band. They’ve even been asked by Freddie Mercury’s family to perform live at the UK’s first memorial to the work of Freddie Mercury – so don’t miss out on this brilliant show. LILIES ON THE LAND A delightful and deeply touching play is coming to the Key Theatre later this month. Lilies On The Land takes audiences back to an extraordinary episode in Britain’s history – World War Two. The story follows the journeys of four women who sign up to become Land Girls, who are determined to work endless hours on farms across the country in a bid to do their best for the war effort. It’s based on real Land Girls’ memories, accompanied by period songs it’s touching theatre. It’s on from February 28 - March 2, nightly at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on Wednesday. PRECIOUS LITTLE SLEEP Dance legend Wayne Sleep is performing in his own choreographed show – Precious Little Sleep. The show is a celebration of the life and career of Wayne, with amazing dance routines created by the man himself. He started off with a scholarship at the Royal Ballet School in 1961, followed by dancing for the Royal Ballet Company in 1966. MOVIES @ PETERBOROUGH ARTS CINEMA There’s another great line up of films at the John Clare Theatre this Feb. Made In Dagenham is the first, which will be shown on February 10 at 7.30pm. An ordinary working mum finds herself elevated to the position of striker-spokeswoman, battling against the bosses, whilst employers and smug chaps get ready to stitch up a dodgy compromise behind her back. On February 17 at 7.30pm, Winter’s Bone will be on the screen. This film takes place in the Ozark mountains of Missouri, where teenager Ree is the only normal adult in her household. Her mother’s become very depressed, her father’s absent, and her siblings need looking after. Dangerous secrets unfold as she tries to find her father. The Illusionist will be on the screen on February 24 at 7.30pm. Follow a stage entertainer whose thunder is being stolen by emerging rock stars. Forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments in fringe theatres, garden parties and bars, he meets a young fan who changes his life forever. DOUBLE TAKE DANCE Contemporary dance lovers should enjoy this exuberant double bill called Double Take. African Vocalist Tsungai Tsikirai will accompany the show with her amazing voice, as the dancers tell the story of the impact of black dance and choreographer and musician Bawren Tavaziva on the dance scene in Britain. WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS THE PLOUGHMAN WINS CAMRA PUB OF THE YEAR! Congrats to the Ploughman in Werrington for winning CAMRA’s Pub Of The Year! You can help Andy the landlord and his regulars celebrate on February 23 when the guys from CAMRA will present them with their award. Andy and his brother Stuart have transformed the place from a keg-only pub into a hub for the community offering a great range of real ales. Several pubs in the area had received CAMRA Gold Awards, all for brewing the best local ales which have been brewed within 30 miles, and LocAle officer John Price told ESP the Werrington pub’s a deserving overall winner – “They’ve done a grand job, and we want people to recognise the pub as the great place it is today, and not what it was in 2009.”

WERE YOU THERE FOR THE BEAR? This year’s Straw Bear Festival in Whittlesey was another big success, with hundreds turning out to follow the bear. The weekend is an ancient tradition revived in Whittlesey and alongside the dancing straw bear there was live music, traditional molly and morris dancing and of course, plenty of drinking – ESP was there to catch the best of the action.

DEFINITELY NO LICENCE TO THRILL FLAMAS MAKES WAY FOR NEW ITALIAN My thanks to Harlequin fancy dress and party shop in Fengate for telling me I look ‘great’ dressed as James Bond in his Moonraker space suit. I don’t remember 007 having to tuck his outfit into a pair of River Island boots or him ever sporting a Christmas hat.

This month will see a new contemporary-looking Italian restaurant open for business in Hampton Vale where South American eatery Flamas once was. The same owners are at the helm so expect the same good food and attention to detail.

Nor do I remember Bond villain Blofeld wearing a giant condom on his head or stroking a back-to-front Westie. Maybe the guys at Harlequin meant I looked ‘great’… for a laugh. But isn’t that what fancy dress is all about (I keep telling myself)?

LEARN TO BIKESAFE AT BALDERSTON Here’s one for the bikers. There’s a free introductory talk by BikeSafe at the Balderston Motorcycle showroom in Hampton on February 16 at 6.30pm. BikeSafe is a police-led motorcycle road safety initiative that focuses on how to avoid collisions. THE PLAICE TO BE When I was invited down to Appy Feet in Queen sgate for a pedicure, I thought – ‘why not, I could do with a bit of pampering’ – so imagine how I felt when I turned up and found out that my ‘treatment’ was to stick my size sixes into a fish tank, complete with over 100 fish swimming about! I nearly had heart failure! “No, honestly”, said Vanessa, from Appy Feet in a reassuring tone, “it’s incredibly therapeutic, not only will the fish gently nibble away at your dead skin but it’ll be a bit of a reflexology massage as the fish stimulate the foot’s acupuncture points.” I wasn’t convinced but with lots of curious looks from the numerous passers by, I decided I’d better be brave and take the plunge – literally! Tentatively I lowered my toes into the tank (after a quick foot wash – apparently I had dangerous levels of sock fluff and could have caused fish genocide, who needs that on their conscience? !) but I had visions of big, scary, hungry fish taking lumps out of me. I hones tly expected to have nothing left but bloody stumps below my knee when I lifted them out again whilst the fish swam around with expressions of ‘we’ll get the rest of you later’ on their fishy faces. But actually, nothing could be further from the truth. Once you get your head around the fact that your feet are being nibbled by fish, which should be wrong on every level, it’s actually quite pleasant as the fish are actually toothless. It feels ‘bubbly’, as one lady described it, like ‘putting your feet in a bucket of champagne’, or in my case, a bucket of Lambrini. Treatment over, my feet felt softer than they had in ages and, as promised, I felt really relaxed. “You often sleep really well after a treatment,” said Vanessa but having a 6-mon th-old with reflux, I knew there was fat chance of that! Actually, there’s a thought, maybe I should bring her with me next time – not that I’m desperate but anything that could make her sleep has got to be worth a go! Appy Feet is now open in Queen sgate, down near Michael John. Be brave and pop in next time you’re shopp ing, I dare you!

You may remember me from such TV network specials as The Simpsons's 138th Episode Spectacular, and the one where I married Marge's chain smoking sister Selma – but tonight we're here to honour Greater Peterborough's favourite A4-shaped publication. So join me, won't you, for the ESP 138th Issue Spectacular! Right about now, you're probably saying – "Troy, I've seen every ESP issue there is. You can't possibly show me anything new." Well, you got some attitude, Mister. Besides, you're wrong! Because over the 12 years the magazine's been in circulation they've received dozens of letters from fans wanting to know more about the magazine – so tonight for the very first time, I'll answer some of your unanswered questions. Professor George Michael Clarke of the University of East Anglia writes – ‘I think Steve Gonzalez gets funnier every year.’ That's not a question, Professor, but we'll let the readers judge for themselves.

Meanwhile Cameron David has emailed wanting to know if the rumour about Anne Widdicombe appearing on next month’s front cover is true? Oh Cameron, you are funny. THE LAST MAN HOWLING For the third time in his career, Deeping darts ace Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams came away with the BDO World Championship at Lakeside last month. The oldest darts slinger in town rolled back the years to beat Dean Winstanley 7-5 in a thrilling final that was watched by an enthusiastic crowd and millions of viewers at home… including me! Wolfie's third world title also prompted some great stories in the newspapers. Matty Speaks Well the dust from the Christmas period has finally settled, and now we move on to February, and of course it’s the month of romance with the 14th being Valentine’s night! My top three places to go for a nice romantic meal would be – if you’re really feeling special – the George of Stamford (always a winner), I had a meal there between Christmas and New Year and I can honestly say it was one of the best I’ve ever had! Another winner for a lovely night in Stamford is of course Cloisters Italian Bistro on St Mary’s Hill, and my last, but in no way least, would be the Tobie Norris with their beautiful stone-baked pizzas.

7 Sins Bar & Club I popped my head round the door of the newly revamped Hole In The Wall and it’s looking very special, the new restaurant and bar offer a great new menu plus they have a special set one for Valentine’s night this month. The new venue is spilt into a beautiful restaurant and a newly designed night club upstairs called 7 Sins. The club offers free entry before midnight, £3 after, and their DJs are playing club classics until 3am including 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. The club is also being let out for hire for private parties and functions. The new licensees Shaun and Fiona Hurrell are looking forward to seeing the next year get busier and to continue to provide the great service they’ve started! Stamford’s newest night out has been kicking into gear recently and I’ll be there with the Paparazzi girls next month to snap a few photos of the new venue and the new clientele!

This year’s Stamford Race For Life is going to be held at Burghley Park in Stamford on May 14 and 15 and the website goes live on February 17 so you can start getting your entries in. The Race For Life events are fantastic fun for women of all ages and fitness levels and my family regularly take part. It comes as a great shame for me to hear that there’ll be no Riverside Festival in 2011 as the organisers say they can't comply with what the Town Council has asked of them and consequently haven't been granted permission to run it. They're still hoping to resurrect the Riverside Festival but may be forced to move it out of the town centre from its usual location on the Meadows. They're making enquiries to see if they can find a new site nearby and are looking at several options. We'd prefer to keep it Stamford based if possible. We had footfall of 65,000 throughout the weekend last year with around 15,500 there at its peak on the Saturday and although there are always one or two things you can try and improve the feedback was really positive that people had really enjoyed it and there were no major problems. "If anyone has any suggestions for a new site we could use to hold the festival in the future or can offer help in any way we would love to hear from them." ESP HITS THE TOWN AND FOLLOWS THE BEAR TO WHITTLESEY ESP’s Paparazzi photographers Mike Harris and Pep Cipriano have been out an about catching you all in the act of having a good time and here’s the evidence! The drinks were certainly flowing when we dropped by the Straw Bear Festival in Whittlesey – the pubs were packed! Everyone seemed to be having a great time at the likes of The Black Bull following the bear through the town and stopping off for a bevie or even a sing song at The Boat. The Beehive pub at Rivergate is fast building a reputation as a great place for a pint (try their Castor Ales, they’re gorgeous!) and for some particularly good pub food – but then it is run by the team behind Jim’s Yard in Stamford and Jim’s Bistro in Peterborough – and this crowd were certainly having a good time. It’s not just great live music the Cherry Tree’s famous for, karaoke night with Mighty Mouth Trevor is always a winner. This Oundle Road pub always has a great atmosphere thanks to landlords Ann and Jess and they’re such good sports they even bashed out a few tunes themselves!

When it comes to the heart let’s look more at your physical heart as Italian cuisine uses foods that have several benefits particularly as many of them are the typical healthy Mediterranean foods such as:

Italian

Garlic – may provide protection against heart disease due to its blood pressure and cholesterol lowering abilities, it contains many good nutrients too such as B6. Olive oil – fresh, cold pressed olive oil drizzled over your salad may offer health benefits due to its ability to help lower inflammation, and its cholesterol lowering abilities (notice I said a drizzle – don’t have your food swimming in it!) Tomatoes – contain lycopene which has many benefits but one is to help protect the heart by blocking harmful chemicals called free-radicals that can damage cells and tissues. Red wine – packed full of substances called flavanoids that may help prevent heart disease by protecting the heart against cholesterol deposits. We’re not talking bottles but a glass or two with a nice Italian meal. Oregano – the herb used in most Italian dishes, it’s high in antioxidants which may help protect the heart, so get sprinkling! The Italians also love fresh, seasonal foods which of course are particularly rich in a huge supply of vitamins, minerals and enzymes (if eaten raw).

My first trip has to be Italy. Why? Because St Valentine’s Day itself emerged from Rome. The symbol of Valentine’s Day is the heart which relates to love. Is it true that the Italians are meant to be the most romantic? Hmmm, I think I should stick to food and not open a huge debate here, but there’s certainly plenty to love about the Italian diet! Italian food includes many fresh, seasonal foods that can be good for us. Of course there are some elements that are fat-laden and not so good such as the fatty sausages, cheese and creams but if these are occasional foods then enjoy, but these should definitely be treats and not daily meals. If you’re like me and try to avoid eating too much pasta and bread then you might find that a good Italian restaurant will offer some wheat-free options such as Topo Gigio on Cowgate, Fratellis in Castor, Riva on the Embankment, Amici in Spalding and Cloisters in Stamford to name just a few although probably best to give them the heads up in advance. You can also ask for a mix of pasta and roasted veg so you don’t overload on the gluten too, plus you get the additional nutritional benefits of the veg. I should be put in stocks and have hot Bovril, cabbages and gravel thrown at me for missing this heavily British-influenced gem from last month’s guide – I’ll blame it on release date confusion – as Colin Firth steals the show as stammering King George VI with his Golden Globewinning Best Actor in a drama performance. An Oscar win should be a cert – but I said the same about Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler a couple of years ago – in this rousing period drama from The Damned United director Tom Hooper, which boasts fantastic support from Geoffrey Rush as George’s eccentric speech therapist during his 1936-52 reign.

DC UNIVERSE ONLINE (PS3/PC) Out now Finally the wait is over as comic-book fans finally get to fight alongside the likes of Superman, Batman, the Flash and Wonder Woman. Or if villainy is your poison, then the Joker and Lex Luthor as your allies works equally as well in this massively multiplayer online (MMO as it’s known) world – which is the most anticipated to ever hit a home console. Travel to legendary places such as Gotham City and Metropolis, as you enter this expansive universe with your own created superhero after Brainiac sweeps down from the skies to take over earth. As with all MMOs (or even great games like Fallout 3) it is nigh on impossible to make it glitch-free – which proves to be its Kryptonite – and this monthly subscription game will undoubtedly receive constant patching as it strives for perfection. With a great combat system and state-of-the-art physics engine, Universe is more action-paced than your average MMO, but it’s undoubtedly the whole DC Comics package that makes this a must-have for fanboys. GRAN TURISMO 5 (PS3) Out now This undoubtedly takes the chequered flag when it comes to the best racing package on Playstation’s premier console. It tags itself as ‘The Real Driving Simulator’, and with more than 800 car models and sixty track layouts the attention to detail from developers Polyphony makes it worthy of the slogan – with jaw-droppingly photo realistic (and intermittently sub-standard) graphics thrown in. But it isn’t quite the benchmark title for the PS3 that Forza 3 was for the 360 last year – it doesn’t quite drive as well with surprisingly long loading times – but with its sheer depth it’s an encyclopaedic dream for motorsports fans that oozes quality.

But though it doesn’t quite compete with the likes of Super Mario Galaxy this is a delightfully innovative 2D and 3D experience as Mickey paints his way through an imaginatively Disneyinfluenced world that encompasses famous animation films and shorts. Sadly it is woefully let down by technical problems – mainly camera related – that will make you say “oh, boy!” – and leaves Walt’s most famous creation just short of ‘epic’ despite getting so much right.

FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS – DEAD MONEY (360/PS3/PC) Out now The massively expansive five-star New Vegas still took my game of the year award despite being an intermittently glitchy game – but sadly the first DLC isn’t a high-roller. It deserves plaudits for offering something different – and Fallout fans will love the high difficulty curve – as you’re stripped of your weapons and bottle caps, and dragged by an explosive collar to a mysterious town. But its slow-paced survivalist story, coupled with a rushed feel, leaves this more like Operation: Anchorage than Broken Steel – but your level cap being raised by five (to 35) still makes this a worthy purchase.

After chatting to some of the city’s more mature musicians and being delighted by their stories of backache, stair-lifts and Viagra (only teasing lads...) I had an opportunity to sit and have a chat with a guy of less advanced years. John Quinn is a 26-year-old who it seems has been around far longer than his formative years suggest. I can remember John from the Met Lounge circa 2002 in his Beatles jacket and peaked cap and he seems to have been around and about ever since.

“Yeah that was probably when I did an acoustic set supporting the up-and-coming Snow Patrol,” he tells me, “or around that time anyway.” A time when guitar bands were coming out of bedrooms and into the national spotlight thick and fast.“I don’t think we have had that for a while now, guitar bands have sort of disappeared. The last wave were like Kasabian and The Pigeon Detectives but they were a few years ago, it seems all a bit synthy now.” A point I personally agree with. There doesn’t seem to be the next wave on the horizon, the next Libertines or Razorlight. Where is the next fresh sounding band to inspire the 13-year-olds to wanna be a rock star…? The Fidds, the Met, the Solstice, schools, local pubs – all had battle of the bands competitions, you don’t see it so much now. “It gave me an apprenticeship all that kinda stuff, I won a competition at the Solstice,” which funnily enough is where his life in a covers band started. “I was playing there and Smithy (Colin) was doing the sound. Big Paul and Blanty came to see Smithy and we got chatting.” Out of this chat came what was to be one of the most popular covers bands of the last three years – The Mighty Quinn. To be fair it was destined to be good, Paul Allen and Paul Blant are serious musicians, the rhythm section that has driven Peterborough’s pub scene for the last 15 years. The Loan Sharks, The Setting Sons, Smithy and then The Mighty Quinn, they’ve stirred up some cool beats and grooves in just about every venue in the area. Put John’s indie, Beatles-esque, soulful voice on top, a bit of guitar and you’re onto a winner. “It was only meant to be once a month,” he explains, “but we were asked to play more and more.”

However after three years of gigging the band have called it a day to allow John’s talent for songwriting to flourish more in The Fleeting Minds which includes, Paul Blant on drums, Louis Speed on bass and John Dalton on guitar. “I think I’ve matured as a songwriter, I sing from the heart and hope the songs have meaning. I can write a song and know how Blanty will interpret it, it’s great working with him we’re just on the same wavelength.” Again, testament to the talent and perception of Paul Blant and to their friendship which not only sees them play and socialise together but work together at the Live Music Shop. Referring back to earlier there was a time when lots of bands sounded very much like Oasis or Blur with a bit of Beatles thrown in, some hoped they’d make it but you kind of knew they’d missed the boat by five years. John is aware of and embraces his influences but puts his own take on that influence which means you can’t really pin his music down to one band or even an era. EAST COAST HIT THE STUDIO

Local purveyors of ‘simmerin' blues & cookin' country rock’ East Coast have been building up quite a buzz with a number of live shows recently and now plan to follow up with some studio time. During February the band, which consists of Nigel Lavender, Nick Thorpe, Chris Thompson and David Block plan to record two versions of their own song Hillbilly Rose, one at Rock Star Studios near Corby and another at Confetti in Nottingham. Couple that with appearances at the Grand Ole Oprey in Nashville and winning the UK's best country duo for seven years then you know you have something special.

The Brothers’ on stage humour is as revered as their banjo, mandolin, guitar and fiddle playing and you can catch them doing the whole caboodle at Mama Liz's in Stamford on Wednesday February 23 at 8pm. On stage helping the guys out will be bassist and Lin Griffin who some of you will recognise as the accordion player from the Dead Rabbits and the ceilidh band Claddagh. It’s considered highly unlikely that we’ll ever see again all members of Pink Floyd performing together on stage. The last time they got together was for the mammoth Live 8 gig in Hyde Park. But if you are a fan of the music of the band then Think Floyd are undoubtedly the nearest you’ll get to the experience. Think Floyd, dubbed "the definitive Pink Floyd experience," are renowned for their stunning celebration of the band’s music. They’re not lookalikes – that’s not a requirement to appeal to Pink Floyd fans – but they are quality musicians and they’ve managed to faithfully recreate the atmosphere and musical genius of one of the world's most legendary rock phenomena. I’ve seen Think Floyd a few times and in particular a memorable appearance at the Peterborough Beer Festival a few years ago made an impact. The four members of Think Floyd are based in different parts of the UK, but there’s a local connection with bassist Lewis Hall coming from Peterborough. He’s been with the band for 10 years and has always been a fan of the Floyd. His favourite track: Echoes. Great taste!

FROM YEE-HA TO ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK! Never let it be said that this area doesn’t cater for a wide range of musical tastes. So a brief mention for some shows coming to the area in February. First of all The Wilders visit Spalding’s South Holland Centre for an evening of old-time Americana, consisting of hillbilly, bluegrass, ho-down and good-time music.

They spend an increasing amount of time together as there’s an understandable demand for their services in this country and also Belgium, Holland and Greece. This year they travel back to the Greek island of Rhodes, where they play at Rhodes Rocks. Purely by coincidence, this giant festival takes place on land adjoining the house of Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour. I wonder if he’s seen Think Floyd but Lewis told me there have been no ‘official’ sightings of Mr Gilmour at the gig.

Kansas based The Wilders write and perform classic honky-tonk, old-time country and fiddle tunes with engaging energy and spirit that’s won them a reputation as one of the most mesmerising country acts coming out of the US. In the UK for a short tour they’re headlining at the Celtic Connections festival before taking the road south to Spalding! It’s on February 9 and the box office at the South Holland Centre is on 01775 764777. Yeeee-ha!

Before that they’re about to start their 2011 tour of the UK and we have the chance to see the band in this area when they return to Bourne Corn Exchange on February 4. Box office 0782 803 2241.

Secondly, get out of that kitchen and rattle those pots and pans at Bourne Corn Exchange on February 5. Rock ‘n’ roll fans can see Phil Hayley & His Comments. The gig will feature the whole range of classic Pink Floyd from Syd Barrett, through Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here, to The Division Bell. With exhilarating visual lighting effects and great sound this is a 'must-see' evening for all Floyd fans and lovers of live music!

Then there’s American outlaw country legend, Bob Wayne dropping by at Mama Liz’s in Stamford. He’s only doing four dates in the UK, all at big city venues, apart from lucky Mama’s who’ve clinched his appearance in Stamford on February 22. Good going guys! I managed to catch Aladdinsane frontman Paul Henderson on the One Show on BBC the other night. He was in a feature on the Ziggy Stardust hairstyle. Paul revealed that he has to have the styling about five times a year – and I always thought it was natural!
