It was the first time the Sue Ryder charity had organised a sponsored Firewalk, giving supporters the chance to take on a once in a lifetime challenge to walk on hot coals. It was held at the Greyhound Stadium, in Fengate, and all the money raised through the Firewalk will go towards the Thorpe Hall Capital Appeal, raising £6 million to fund the building of a new state-of-the-art hospice at Thorpe Hall in Peterborough.

REDUCED SHAKESPEARE ARE BACK Following the success of their UK tour in 2013, the Reduced Shakespeare Company are returning to the stage for 2014 and will be coming to the Stamford Arts Centre on Tuesday June 17. ARTS CINEMA This month’s Peterborough Arts Cinema screenings at the John Clare Theare (Central Library) is Blue Is The Warmest Colour (18) on Thursday June 5. Adèle is struggling to come to terms with her sexuality amid a culture of homophobic abuse until she meets bluehaired Emma, an artist with a forthright sense of self. After the inevitable culture clashes their relationship grows, changes, falters and reawakens. Next up on Thursday June 12 it’s The Broken Circle Breakdown (15), Belgium's submission for the 2014 foreign language film Oscar category. This is a powerful and haunting tale of love, death and bluegrass adaptation of Johan Heldenbergh and Mieke Dobbels's play. On Thursday June 19 it’s the marvellous Dame Judi Dench in Philomena (12A) with Steve Coogan in the story of a tough-minded, elderly Irish woman, who battles to find out what happened to the baby boy taken away from her in the 1950s. Finally for June it’s Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) in Kill Your Darlings on Thursday June 26 (15). This film about the beat generation by John Krokidas sees Daniel Radcliffe giving an intelligent and considered performance as the young Allen Ginsberg and is revealing about the role played by violence, shame and denial at the birth of beat and of Ginsberg's career.

Peterborough Voices have enjoyed huge success since their formation in 2011, winning competition prizes, touring internationally and recording their first CD, Invitation to Eternity. This year sees the launch of their third Sing for Life project, in association with Sue Ryder’s Thorpe Hall Hospice Appeal. They return to Stamford Arts Centre for their annual summer concert on Saturday June 14 with highlights including choral favourites, ballads and songs from the shows. D-DAY DARLINGS @ THE KEY Peterborough, prepare to air your sirens – the D-Day Darlings will soon be landing! Despite bombs dropping all over the town, Peterborough stood strong through World War II. Paying tribute to this significant era, the D-Day Darlings will be singing ‘The Songs That Won The War’ with two performances on Saturday June 7 at the Key Theatre. Set in the heart of wartime Britain, the show tells a story of a vocal-harmony trio seeking to get their big break in the heart of WW2. STAMFORD FESTIVAL Once again the streets of Stamford will be buzzing on Saturday June 21 when the annual Festival Parade of Floats takes to the streets.

When the parade returns to the Recreation Ground at about 3.30pm the fun continues with the fairground rides, exhibits by the RAF and others, a flypast and displays and entertainment by local groups in the arena. Refreshments and the famous Kiwanis Pimms Stall will be there for those who feel the strain of the day before the judges announce the winners at about 4.45pm. On Sunday June 22 it’s the Family Fun Day on the Recreation Ground from 10am to 4pm.

CHARITY WEEKEND OF CASINO FUN AND SKA NIGHT
A colourful procession is promised to the theme of ‘Books and Movies’ and up to 20 floats will wind their way through the centre of the town bringing traffic to a halt. Each float will be judged as it passes in front of Browne’s Hospital by the judging panel of local dignitaries and prizes for the best floats will be awarded. Many reigning champions will be there to defend the trophies they’ve won in the past and a number of new entrants promise to make it an exciting competition to be the best.
The UK’s largest floating real ale emporium under the Town Bridge has the city centre’s largest beer garden and will host acts outside in the marquee every Sunday throughout the summer, with a great line-up of the finest bands and artists from across Peterborough and surrounding areas. It’s what Sundays are made for!
There’ll be story telling with Top Hat ‘n Tales, Thai massage, Owls from Raptor Rescue, Rutland Ferrets, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Three Counties Rescues, Judo, Zumba, games for all ages, ice cream, funfair, hog roast and guaranteed fun for everyone. The team at the North Street Bar have two great charity nights planned in aid of Friday June 20 and Saturday June 21 in the Courtyard Room. On the Friday evening there’s a chance to dress to the nines for the Charity Fun Casino Night, tickets priced at £25 include Champagne and canapé reception, and £10 of Childline credits at the casino tables. There’ll be prizes on the night with proceeds going to NSPCC Childline. Tickets are available from the bar. On the Saturday evening there’ll be a night for SKA fans featuring top local band The Gangsters. NOTOWN WITHOUT MOTOWN CHARITY NIGHT Motown fans can help support the Thorpe Hall Capital Appeal and enjoy a great night of tunes early next month. BOTOLPH GREEN FESTIVAL Festival season is here at last and if you’re looking for a family day out the one over at Botolph Green is well worth a look. This lively local festival is in its eighth year and offers fun activities for families and kids, live music, displays from local groups, and many stalls to browse and enjoy over the weekend. There’s a wide choice of fabulous food on offer and the marquee just north of the Dovecote on the Green is the centre of activities, with its ‘pop up beer garden’ and regular Festival bar. The Green will be humming from the evening of Friday June 13 when the Festival kicks off with a children’s disco in the marquee, followed by Snail Race Night – fun and laughter on the big screen with cartoon snails – anything can happen! Throughout Saturday and Sunday you can browse high quality craft and food stalls, enjoy live music and watch demonstrations and displays from fantastic local groups and clubs including Indian dancing and Taekwondo. Have a go at putting, rowing, cycling and fencing, all supervised by expert coaches. Children of all ages can enjoy a Family Dog Show and Dog Agility Competition, a play area, games and fun activities, including donkey rides and steam train rides for children. Make like Mary Berry and take
along your best baking for their Great Botolph Bake-Off cake competition, judged by local experts including Trevor Charlton from Orton’s Ramblewood Inn. On Saturday evening there’s a disco and live music from local band, Electric Warriors. TIME TO LEAP IN @ THE LIDO The Peterborough Lido, the popular outdoor swimming pool on Bishop’s Road, is now open for the summer season! Most of us have some great memories of time spent down at the fantastic outdoor pool in the city centre and it’s still proving a great place to spend some (hopefully) hot summer days.
Families can relax on the large sunbathing terraces, play in the three heated pools and park area and enjoy hot and cold food at the Lido café. With fun music for all the family they

DRAGON BOATS RACE TO THE ROWING LAKE The hugely popular Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival takes place at the new venue of Peterborough Rowing Club, Thorpe Meadows on Saturday June 14 and there’s still time to get a team together and be part of it! One of our favourite events is here once again and if you haven’t been along to the Peterborough Heritage Festival before make sure you don’t miss out this time! It really is a fantastic day out right in the heart of the city and it’s completely free! You can come face to face with a tank, a falcon, a Roman or a World War II pilot – you never know who or what you’ll bump into as you wander round the displays and this year there’s a new Food Fayre too. It’s back, even bigger and better than before, on Saturday June 21 and Sunday June 22, with several fringe events running from June 13 – 29. Arranged in association with Vivacity, Peterborough Cathedral and Peterborough City Council, the Festival is set in the historic Cathedral Precincts, Cathedral Square, Bridge Street, St John’s Square and Peterborough Museum. This is a unique chance to experience 3,500 years of heritage in the UK’s only city centre multi-period living history festival. A POETIC JOURNEY – THE LIFE & WRITINGS OF JOHN CLARE If you haven’t been along to the revamped Peterborough Museum yet you’re missing out as the improvements are amazing! As well as some great new features the Museum frequently hosts short term special exhibitions and this month to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of the poet John Clare, there’s a unique and extraordinary exhibition on show until Sunday June 22. Offering a once-in-a-generation chance to see incredibly rare, fragile and beautiful manuscripts written by John Clare, discover the largest collection of the poet’s works shown in one place since 1893. This exhibition has been developed in collaboration with the Centre for John Clare Studies at the University of Cambridge. Green Meadows Festival, the annual charity music festival near Oundle, has announced this year's line up. The Festival, which is held on the weekend of July 4-6, features three stages and free children's area. On the main stage, sponsored by Brewsters Brewery, The Wonderstuff's Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls are joined by Glastonbury Festival regulars By The Rivers, Irish chart act The Raglans as well as local bands and artists. The Bentwood Stage, which mainly hosts acoustic acts, features former The Bluetones front man Mark Morriss as well as a host of other singer songwriters. The DJ stage, called The Beats Boutique, features international producers Pimpsoul and Mooqee, Ministry of Sound regular Martin Holden and Where's North? who
was nominated in Breakspolls DJ of the year competition. The Festival, which supports the Teenage Cancer Trust, also features a free children's activities area with inflatables, yoga and face painting. Organiser Ollie Sharp told ESP – "We are delighted to have such a wide range of quality acts this year as the Festival goes from strength to strength. There is something for everyone and we hope to raise more money for such an important cause." Back in 2011 Dereck and Edna Brown decided it was time for the last waltz and after more than 40 years of teaching us how to dance they closed their beloved Brown’s Dance Centre on Lincoln Road. four decades and I wish I could say I’ve picked up where my folks left off but I’m making a real good go of it thanks to my girlfriend. Despite being born from dancing parents I’ve never considered it as a pastime and admittedly don’t get over excited when our weekly dance class comes around. Dancing isn’t something that comes naturally to me and perhaps I’ve been left a little scared from my first taste of dancing five years ago, which was Salsa.
LENNY’S ITALIAN JOB IN BRAZIL! It’s World Cup month and I have to admit to being a little bit jealous of my mate Lenny Barletta who’s only gone and bagged tickets for Italy’s group matches!

Going to watch Italy in the World Cup in the Mecca of football that is Brazil is a lifelong dream of Lenny’s and he’s confident the Azzurri will be 2-0 winners thanks to a Mario Balotelli brace. As a fellow Italia supporter I wish I could share Lenny’s confidence but I see the contest finishing as a draw, if not as a win for England. England go into the game with far less expectations than four times World Cup winners Italy and this’ll mean there’s less
Add to the mix that Italy are notoriously slow starters and you can start to see circumstances favouring the Three Lions. One thing’s for sure, it’ll be a cracking match with one of the largest television audiences in this World Cup. As much as I love watching Salsa I found it frustratingly difficult to master but if I was to take it up again today I’d probably find it a little easier. That’s because my girlfriend convinced me I should give dancing another go and my condition was that it would have to be at Brown’s – the best there is. The dancing husband and wife team spent a lifetime teaching generations to dance ballroom and Latin. When they first started 100 pupils were at every class and they taught almost 2,000 people a week, all day and every day.
We danced at Brown’s for two years right up until that last emotional day when Dereck and Edna closed their doors for good. We were taught by Edna and her daughter Jo and my second stab at dancing was much more fruitful.
Dereck and Edna also enjoyed the company of some major figures in the dance world over the years including BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman who is a friend of the Browns.
I’m never going to light up the dance floor but I’m so grateful for the patience the Browns had with me in those early days, which has resulted in me being moderately competent in most forms of Latin and in particular ballroom. I’m now progressing at TuDanse studios in Fengate, taught by owner Anita Winter who herself had lessons at the famous Brown’s.
There are certain Peterborough people that make us proud and are a pleasure to know. Dereck and Edna are two of them and that’s why I’m including them in my heroes wall of fame. I was first made aware of Brown’s when I was in my early teens. My mum and I were sorting through some old photos and it was at this point that I realised how good my folks were at dancing. We came across photos of them being presented with medals at Brown’s during the early 1970’s when it seemed like the whole country was dancing all the time. Mum said she and dad danced to a high standard but it stopped when mum fell pregnant to me. It was all my fault as usual. Fast forward
I saw Dereck recently and he was so happy to hear I was still keeping my dancing up. I told him I still bitch and moan and that probably the main reason I stick with it is because it makes my girlfriend happy. He replied with: “That’s just it, that’s what dancing’s all about. You’re doing something together and surely that’s everything.” He was right. With that he’s given me reason to continue and I’ve since booked into weekly private lessons so that one day I can give Louis Smith a run for his money.

BACK IN THE DAY...
PIMPED OUT FOR SUMMER Riding a motorbike in full leathers with temperatures of more than 20 degrees makes me just want to strip them all off and luckily for me I know just the girl to give me a hand… Michelle White is clothing and accessory advisor at Balderston and she recommends this hi-visibility textile jacket made by BMW called the AirShell. It’s one of those jackets that looks better on than hanging on the rail and it offers practically all the protection of a leather without sweating buckets. The AirShell has large ventilation areas that gives you lots of air circulation. It’s waterproof, reflective for those late summer evenings and comes with removable protectors on your shoulders and elbows. At the front there are two zip pockets and you can adjust the waist and cuffs. There’s also a pocket to fit a back protector and you can remove the lining on the inside for even more air flow.
It was the late 1990’s and the city centre’s nightclub offering was more than adequate with plenty of tastes catered for, so we thought. Then L’Aristos came along and it should’ve challenged the status quo – but the venue was in Fengate. And being in Newark Road was essentially the club’s downfall. L’Aristos was supposed to be the venue that changed everything. Its presence (had it been in the city centre) would’ve intimidated other clubs and forced them to rethink their strategies, but instead L’Aristos will be remembered by me at least as a slice of London’s West End meets Peterborough’s primary industrial estate. The club’s owner Frank L’Aristo looked like the kind of guy who owned a downtown casino in Las Vegas. He was all gold bracelet and suntan but he knew how to bring a bit of class to Peterborough. I was never much of a drinker so being designated driver had its perks while L’Aristos was open. It meant I could charge strangers a few quid to get back into town to hit the other clubs if they wanted to. Driving was also the perfect introduction to girls who’d be getting a chill up their miniskirts waiting for a taxi back to the city centre. The fact that so many of us would rarely stay the duration in L’Aristos in fear of missing out in town is a massive shame. I seldom saw the club packed to the rafters and even with a shuttle service eventually deployed, revellers still needed to get their end of night kicks in the city centre. L’Aristos did sharpen our up clobber though. The club oozed style,
sophistication and class. It was a big venue and probably the best the city has seen in terms of its layout – the dance floor was central and huge. I remember thinking I’d have to smarten up when going to L’Aristos. It put a bit of pride and effort back into the appearance of the otherwise bordering on scruffy 1990’s clubber. I’m guilty of not supporting L’Aristos as much as I should have on Friday and Saturday nights. For me it was part of a chat up line in Rinaldo’s to say I’d popped into L’Aristos earlier that night. But on a Sunday I was there without fail. Clubbing on a Sunday night was for the die hard and the elite. It was made especially easier by being in your early 20’s, which meant comfortably coping with burning the candle at both ends. It was also a blessing that Sunday entry fees were considerably cheaper. The Sunday routine always began at The Granary where practically the pub’s entire clientele would move onto L’Aristos. For reasons which I can’t figure out, Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ is the song I most associate with L’Aristos during that time and like Whitney that excellent venue is now gone but never forgotten.

PIZZA EXPRESSED IN BOIZOT BOOK People who know me understand that I don’t read fiction although I’ve been accused of writing it from time to time in my 20 years as a columnist. I’m an absolute autobiography man and have a stack of them ranging from Richard Prior to Aryton Senna still to read but a new autobiography of Peter Boizot has gone straight to the top of my priority reading pile. It’s been penned by former Peterborough Telegraph reporter Matthew Reville and I remember being pleasantly surprised when he told me he’d embarked on what I’m sure was a challenging but satisfying project.
I always pray for good weather in time for BMF weekend and get a downpour but this year my prayers were answered for a change. The sun was beaming and so was I when I got to meet World Superbike legend Carl Fogarty.
Peter was chairman of Posh when I worked there and I always used to say I could write a few stories about this experience. Credit to Matt for choosing to write about one of Peterborough’s most famous people (me aside of course) and well done for the book being sold out of its first print run at Peterborough Waterstones in four days!

Coming on the tail end of several cycling events in and around the city, Vivacity has launched a great indoor cycling programme, fantastic for people who love indoor or outdoor cycling. The event saw round three of Britain’s leading men's cycle race series and the Women's Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series, featuring top-class riders competing on a 1.1 kilometre circuit at speeds reaching more than 30mph. They started and finished in Cathedral Square with the circuit taking in Church Street, Cowgate, Bourges Boulevard and Bridge Street. It’s all great promotion for the city and Annette Joyce, Head of Commercial Operations for Peterborough City Council, told us she was delighted to see it return – “The Pearl Izumi Tour Series always enjoys coming to Peterborough and spectators line the course giving the riders fantastic encouragement. “The race last visited our city in 2012 when it was Olympic year and cycling became the country’s fastest take up sport. This meant our appetite for the race has

GET ON YOUR BIKE AND RIDE FOR RYDER Cycling’s seen a real spike in interest and if you’re feeling inspired you don’t necessarily need to don the Lycra or splash out on a flashy bike. An event is great motivation to get you back in the saddle so why not Ride for Ryder? ESP is backing Thorpe Hall’s Capital Appeal for a new hospice and their latest fundraiser is their bi-annual bike ride. It has three different course lengths so there’s something for everyone, from the Sunday afternoon pleasure riders to the seasoned Lycra-clad bikers. Ride for Ryder is taking place on Sunday June 29. All three routes will start and finish at Thorpe Hall Hospice, giving everyone taking part the opportunity to see just why they’re aiming to raise £6 million to build a new hospice. There’s a 25 mile route, a 55 mile route and an 85 mile route which takes in five counties. All three have been carefully chosen to avoid main roads where possible and to take in some of the stunning scenery in the countryside around Peterborough. The courses will be marshalled and there’ll be plenty of toilet stops and refreshments on all routes so don’t wrorry! You can just turn up and take part but if you’d like to raise sponsorship money, it will all go straight to the Thorpe Hall Capital Appeal. Registration costs just £15 and there’s a medal for everyone who finishes. HE’S ONLY GONE & DONE IT! The Route 92 Cycle Challenge saw them cycle a massive total of 2369.5 miles, averaging over 130 miles a day. That’s more than the Tour de France, which is 2284 miles, and they took 21 days, averaging 108 miles a day!
We have to say a huge congratulations to a Peterborough dentist who’s really proved his metal successfully completing the Route 92 Cycle Challenge – bigger than the Tour De France and all in aid of charity. Peterborough Dentist Dr. Phil Johns and members of The Smile Boutique Dental Practice cycled to all 92 English League Football Clubs in aid of Stamford based charity Anna’s Hope which supports children and young people with brain tumours.
Phil Johns told ESP – “It was extremely challenging and long hours but the thought of knowing where the donations were going, motivated us to keep going over the 18 days.” The challenge started on Friday April 18 at Peterborough United, with Phil Johns leading the way, returning on Monday May 5. Way back in 1974 when I was 5, I sat on the lounge carpet at my house in Burns Close, Peterborough all set to watch the World Cup final between Holland and West Germany on an old Adrian Durham black & white TV and I was so excited I threw up everywhere. I did exactly the same in exactly the same spot four years later just as the final between Argentina and Holland kicked off in Buenos Aires. I love this tournament and so I'm blessed to have a job which means I will be attending my third successive World Cup for talkSPORT. I will be working out in Brazil for five weeks and if the protests and social disorder are conveniently ignored, it should be a spectacular tournament. Last summer I was in Rio when the host nation swept all opponents away in the Confederations Cup, a World Cup warm up tournament. If Neymar recovers from a poor season by his standards at Barcelona, Brazil will be expected to go all the way.

Can Spain win back-to-back World Cups? It would be a stunning achievement but I just can't see it. Brazilianborn striker Diego Costa has been ‘converted’ into a Spaniard, which tells you the ‘golden generation’ is possibly past its best: defender Carles Puyol has quit, Fernando Torres isn't the player he was, Xavi's older, Casillas hasn't been Real Madrid's team in La Liga this season. You can't write Spain off, but Brazil thrashed them last summer in Rio.
If Argentina can build a team to play to Messi's strengths then they are my favourites. But the manager's refusal to pick Carlos Tevez despite his goals for Italian champions Juventus this season is baffling and could be their downfall.
Of the rest, Belgium's friendly results have been poor but they have the players to compete, Italy were European Championship finalists two years ago so will be confident, Germany haven't won a World Cup for 24 years so it's about time they delivered. Ronaldo could do for Portugal what Maradona did for Argentina in 1986 but it's unlikely. History says that because it's in South America, a South American team will win the World Cup. Expectation could work for or against Brazil. But there is always the possibility one individual could shine and take this World Cup by storm.

England? No chance. But I am excited to see players like Ross Barkley and Raheem Sterling out there. We won't win it, but we surely have to be better than the pathetic mess we were four years ago. England stunk the place out so badly they had to fumigate South Africa after the squad came home. What I know is this: I will be in Brazil longer than the England squad. I also know Steven Gerrard will be playing his last games for England and the captain will be desperate to make the most of it. And Wayne Rooney has never had a good World Cup – he hasn't scored at the two World Cups he's played in. His reputation as a world class player is very much on the line this summer. He scored for England in a friendly in Brazil last year, and Rooney needs to go back and have a great tournament. If he does, I'll be happy to eat my words about England's chances of winning the World Cup! “I’ve always wanted to hit people in the face with my music, rather than tickle them,” says Ella. Fierce and fearless, with a number 1 feature on Rudimental’s ‘Waiting All Night’ to her name, her new breed of soul is here. With an ear for the past and a foot in the future, led by a voice exploding with power and passion, brawling and bawling, Ella’s songs speak to us while we dance. Already tipped as the artist to watch by media across the board the voice of 2014 is sure to have a spectacular year. Appearing on Naughty Boy singles, laying down tracks with TinieTempah, Wiz Khalifa and Bastille, it’s obvious Ella Eyre waits for nothing. Born an April Fools baby to a Rastafari father and a knitwear designer mother, music was always the driving force in this Londoner’s life. You might even say she was a born performer – or, at least, “I was always a show-off,” she laughs. Named after the First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald, she’s drawn to powerful women and soulful men with something to say, like the music she grew up around, Lauryn Hill and Gil Scott Heron. “I’ve always been into punchy, loud songs – passionate, with a message. And I’ve always been really lyrical – I love the idea that someone has felt the same as me. I love honesty, brutality and rawness.” A dancer from the age of two and a drummer at school, she’s always had a physical and lyrical need to express herself through music. Singing backing vocals in a band when she was 14 uncovered a voice of such raw power and potential her path was laid before her. She started writing songs and quickly found what she was looking for. Her music teacher tipped off a few music execs on the ‘best voice in her school’ and soon they were clamouring for her; she was signed to Virgin on the back of two incredible songs she’d written and she was still only 17. Brought into the studio with a thenunknown Rudimental, she laid down the vocals on the track that would really introduce her to the world and following its success toured the world with the quartet, playing prolific festival slots as well as support shows for both Bastille and Naughty Boy. Song-writing was something that came naturally to her. “I wanted to share my experiences in a way that when someone hears it in a car they go, ‘That’s exactly how I’m feeling!’ So they feel they’re not alone.” She knows what she wants: “To empower people. As an artist it’s my job to hit people emotionally.”

Her debut EP is led by title track ‘Deeper’, a collaboration with ubercool producer Two Inch Punch, an incredible marriage of northern soul and dance. It’s got stomp and it’s got swing, her performance hinting at all she’s capable of. “If I was to describe my music as a colour, it would be red – it’s loud, energetic, brutal, brutally honest at some points, and vulnerable, too.” She’s searched the experiences she’s had because, “I want to affect people. Make them happy, sad, ultimately empower them by the end of listening to the album and making them strong. Almost as if someone has been listening to you, but really you’ve been listening.” Looking like a mini Beyoncé, with the power of Aretha and the sophistication of Jessie Ware, she proves the new cool is the new truth: big songs by a big singer saying big things. As the voice that became the soundtrack to many people’s nights out last summer, Ella starts a national tour this month and will once again be wowing the crowds at several festivals.

One of the best original animations over the past few years gets the inevitable sequel treatment. It’s been five years since Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his trusty dragon Toothless, successfully united the inhabitants of the Island of Berk – led by Gerard Butler’s Stoick the Vast.
They uncover a home to hundreds of wild dragons and the mysterious dragon rider that threatens to change the new-found peace and stability on the island forever. Cate Blanchett, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill and Pompeii’s Kit Harington round off a star-studded voice cast in a movie that is currently the bookies’ favourite to be the biggest blockbuster of the summer.

He stars as a youngster who decides to better himself after feeling ‘something in the air’ on the last day of 2008 – crossing friends, family and enemies in the process.

Microsoft builds on the success of the original Kinect Sports game – by providing an expanded multiplayer experience with lots to enjoy. Again, the Kinect controls are sometimes hit-and-miss – particularly poorly implemented in the soccer offering of this new package – but new games like wave racing and rock climbing work pretty well, and are welcome additions. Throw in improved ten-pin bowling and tennis, which both (most of the time) prove engaging, then this definitely advances your Kinect peripheral on the Xbox One – even though the motionsensor still isn’t perfect.

Released: June 6 Nicole Kidman stars as legendary Hollywood star Grace Kelly in this story focused on her marriage and identity crisis during the backdrop of a political dispute between Monaco’s Prince Rainer III and France’s Charles De Gaulle over tax laws in the early 60s. Unfortunately the early reviews of this drama – which co-stars Reservoir Dogs’ Tim Roth – aren’t particularly glowing.

There’s no denying the production values and carnival atmosphere that ooze through every pore of FIFA’s World Cup version of their hit football game. The game itself has only been slightly tweaked since the last FIFA ’14 incarnation, with 100 new animations providing better passing mechanics, a new set-piece tactics system, and the addition of Brazilian-inspired dribbling flicks and tricks, being the only barely notable refinements. Of course this is arguably another footballing cash-in – but this offers just about enough to be Rio Grande.

Released: June 13 Reviews from the States have been favourable of this possible new horror franchise – with its clever use of spine-tingling dread ahead of the usual gore. When Kaylie’s (Karen Gillan) brother Tim (Brenton Thwaites) is released from prison after being convicted of the brutal murder of their parents – she’s convinced it was a malevolent force unleashed through an antique mirror that really killed them.

Spider-man games are a frustrating experience – historically taking one step forward then two steps back. This latest web-slinging experience frustratingly fits into that category as the right moves made a few years back in Shattered Dimensions haven’t stuck – despite this having the best swinging mechanics ever seen in a Spidey game, and some great production values. But sadly when Peter Parker’s alter-ego is on the ground it really offers little that’s amazing, with combat that simply doesn’t have the same bite as Batman’s Arkham series – and all the hallmarks of a rushed movie tie-in.

SALOON CAR REVVING CHAMPIONSHIP UP FOR DREAM FOR ROSS SUMMER! Former King’s School pupil Ross Elliott is living the dream competing in the Toyo Tires Saloon Car Championship across the UK. At just 19 he’s racing in grids of up to 35 cars after securing vital sponsorship from some leading businesses all with links to Peterborough – QUADRIGA, Astle BMW and local service and repair garage, FRM Automotive. Driving a BMW 328 he built himself in the family garage, Ross has made the next step to achieving his long-term goal to drive in the British Touring Car Championship after learning his craft and the skills of wheel-to-wheel racing in karts from the age of eight. Ross told ESP – “We built the car last year, spending over 400 hours, taking the BMW from a road car to full race spec. It took longer to build and more of our savings than we’d expected, but it’s been an incredible experience. We finished the car in time to enter the last two races of the 2013 season and were delighted to win third place in the car’s first race on the Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone. “Like all motorsports, it’s incredibly challenging to keep the costs under control and we are largely funded from the family budget. CLASSICS AT THE YAXLEY FESTIVAL It was a case of being at two events in one day for me last month and as soon as I was done drooling over bikes at the BMF I raced over to the Yaxley Festival to check out their classic car display. Like last year there was plenty of chrome on show ranging from big American muscle cars to Mini’s and this delightful Fiat 500. There are more local classic car shows lined up this summer including ones I regularly attend in Maxey,

Bourne and Stamford. But the one I’m looking forward to because it’s a new event on the classic and vintage calendar will be held in the city on The Embankment on September 13 and 14. The Peterborough Classic and Vintage Vehicle Show is being organised by Peterborough City Council and I’m told more than 200 cars have already registered to attend. The event’s open to anything old that has wheels so expect to see motorbikes, busses, steam engines and caravans too.
IRON HORSE GOT ME IN A BMF GALLOP Last month’s BMF show at Peterborough Arena was one of the best I’ve been to in recent years and credit to the organisers for making it more of an interactive experience for everyone. I got to meet World Superbike legend Carl Fogarty, which was brill and just missed out (I had to shoot to the Yaxley Festival!) on seeing TV presenter of the World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides – Henry Cole. My highlights were meeting Foggy, seeing an exhibition of Mike Hailwood’s bikes in the excellent Classic & Vintage area and falling in love with the motorbike I’m pictured sitting on. It’s a Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 833 and I’m tempted, but the problem is I love my current bike. Still, a test ride wouldn’t hurt would it? I was in the same predicament four years ago and ended up buying my Triumph when I thought my whole world revolved around the Honda I owned at the time. This is the beauty of going to the BMF. You get to broaden your motorcycle horizons by talking to people in the know and get the confidence to try out new bikes. ROB’s 2CV TRIBUTE TO SISTER She was after a low cost and economical car and settled for a red 2CV6 special, which she absolutely adored. Rosalyn soon became an avid enthusiast of the 2CV and joined the 2CV GB club, joining fellow owners at events around the country. This led to Rosalyn replacing her first 2CV with a Dolly model, which Robert has today.
The Citroen 2CV is a special car. It’s one of my favourite classics because of its uniqueness and quirkiness, which is so typically Citroen. Part of today’s appeal for these wonderful cars is their distinctive sounding 602cc engine and group one insurance. Robert Hayes owns three of these head-turning motors and his passion for them started after he lost his sister Rosalyn to cancer in 1990. Rosalyn had moved away to train as a nurse at St. George’s and St. James’ hospital in London.
The car is called ‘Ros’ and it keeps the spirit of Rob’s sister alive. Rob’s wife and children never met his sister but the car helps make a connection that’s been strengthened by his two children who’ve developed a deep passion for the cars too. They’ve learnt to weld and strip down 2CV’s of their own and accumulated more than 1,000 parts that’ll
see them good for spares and making improvements. Low running costs and fun factor will enable them to enjoy driving these characterful cars whilst remembering their aunt. Along with Ros, Fiona is the green and white Dolly and the blue van is Bob. The van and Fiona are in use daily with Ros being brought out in the summer only. Rob’s children are rebuilding Jodie and Domino. I love all three of Rob’s Citroens but the 1978 AK400van is my favourite. It makes you want to drive it to a farm in France, pick up a couple of straw bales and park up for a spot of crusty bread, cheese and wine lunch. There’s nothing Rob and his son don’t know about these delightful cars, as I found out during an hour in their company. I have no doubt Rosalyn is extremely proud. We want to hear about more of your Pride and Joy stories, so please keep them coming in. Good vibrations…
time to tune into your mood and find the positive vibes. W hat kind of mood are you in right now? Take a few seconds to ponder that question, then ask what mood you have been in all week, month and year. When we think about that question we normally say we are either in a good mood or a bad one. The mood you’re in right in this moment is sending out a signal or energy pulse, electromagnetic frequency – whatever you like to call it – you are sending it out there. Think about the mood you are in right now, are the feelings that are underneath it supportive or destructive? Positive feelings such as optimism, excitement, love, generosity, happiness, hope, abundance (this is not just boiling down to how many £££’s you have in the bank but of abundant love, friendships etc), can all elevate our mood. Negative feelings such as anxiety, anger, worry, hopelessness, hurt, disappointment, revenge and the like dampens our mood or should I say our spirit. We think about a mood as good or bad but if you go into the question a little deeper you can generally find out what is the dominant feeling. Feelings count, feelings are everything, the feelings we emit are those that are sent out to the vast energy field around us, drawing and pulling equal energy towards us which can draw in or attract something of equal energy, this could be the nasty comment, moody shop assistant, unhelpful boss and other irritable people. Whereas when we have a feeling of love, optimism, happiness, peace – yes you’ve guessed it, we draw to ourselves that equal energy. Or at least what you will see is evidence of this as you go through the day. Our feelings can go up and down the scale quite quickly, and it’s our job to be able to ‘check in’ with how we are feeling during the day before we get to the place of the heavier energies that pull more of the stuff we don’t want. Make no mistake, this takes time to get a

handle on, we have so much outside stimulation from people, technology, what we listen to on the radio, watch on TV, read on social media and the like. In every given moment we have the choice to allow feelings to stick to us. When you start to allow your feelings to be your guidance you will know instantly if you are going up or down on the energy/feeling scale and from there you can adjust them. It can be as simple as removing yourself from company that is pulling you down, or taking a moment on your own to regroup your thoughts. Or getting a good therapist to help you with issues that are affecting you right now.
Sometimes though, we need some solid props to get our feelings back up the scale, here are a few suggestions… • Spending healthy time alone – being alone is not the same as being lonely! • Eating foods that offer nourishment rather than fake stimulants. • Getting out in the sunshine
• Earthing – getting your bare feet into some grass/sand • Taking a walk on the beach or in nature. • Listening to music that uplifts you. • Journaling, writing down all the feelings good and bad – get them down, get them out! • Watching a film that inspires and/or uplifts you • Take a cyber space detox – yes turn off social media, computer etc • Turn off the TV and avoid the hypnotic way in which media can over stimulate our minds • Surround yourself with people that elevate you or make you laugh . Feelings matter, they are your own internal sat nav so tune in and let them guide you. Nothing is more important than finding the good feelings for health and happiness.

IT’S GOING TO BE A GREAT EASTERN RUN! The Perkins Great Eastern Run is on its way and is already on course to be a record breaker.
Ron had this advice for first time entrants – “A lot of people won’t train enough or do enough running to get round, and the biggest mistake is starting off too fast. Then you get into oxygen debt you get tired and despondent. It’s better to go more slowly at the start and have something left at the end for a last couple of miles sprint.” New to 2014 is the introduction of race pacers who’ll help runners to achieve their best possible time on race day. Seven pacers will lead different target times ranging from one and a half hours finish time to two hours and forty five minutes. Annette Joyce, Head of Commercial Operations at Peterborough City Council and Race Director, told ESP she has high aspirations for the event – “It’s to grow the race and make it the best it can possibly be. We grew it by 20% last year and if we can keep doing that year on year we really will have one of the top half marathons in the country. “It puts us on the map for something really positive. Iit encourages local people to take up running and gives a sense of well being for the city. There’s nothing more inspirational than seeing thousands of people running through the city perhaps raising money for charity or their own personal goals and getting fit.” There’s also a chance for local bands and solo artists to apply to perform on the running route and on The Embankment where the race starts and finishes so if you fancy it you should get in touch with the organsiers. “I’ve run this twice,” said Annette, “and one of the things I’ve noticed that’s fantastic is the resident’s support, they are phenomenal they really cheer the runners on and we need to give them something back. If they’ve got their street party going on, wouldn’t it be great to put a local band on or something punctuating that road with entertainment and the by product of that is it makes it so much easier for the runner to keep them going.” Stamford based charity Anna's Hope is the official charity of the fun run but runners in either race can fundraise for any charity they like. This year's Perkins Great Eastern Run takes place on Sunday October 12 and the route will remained unchanged, starting and finishing on the city's Embankment.

The race is gathering pace in reputation and size amongst runners and has now attracted national attention securing the BBC’s Children in Need as its official charity partner. In 2013 the half marathon attracted its highest number of runners with almost 5,200 people entering the race and more than 1,700 signed up for the Anna's Hope fun run. The race was launched and endorsed by none other than Doctor Ron Hill MBE who’s competed in more than 100 marathons and raced in 100 different countries. He told ESP – “There’s lots of advice in magazines and so on but there’s nothing better than consistency in training, getting out four or five times a week if they can, and some longer runs to get used to time on feet. I do encourage people to race too because a race situation is a lot different to doing a long run with a group or on your own. A Saturday morning 5K – anything, just try and get something in before and then you’ll have a better idea.

MIKEY’S MONSTER TRAINING SESSION ESP’s Mikey Clarke is taking part and is being trained by the best of the beasts…
When thinking of local sporting legends, certain names are likely to spring to mind. These include Wolfie (yes, Darts is a sport!), Louis Smith and Dinomite. Dinomite needs no introduction… but as I have a page to fill, he’s going to get one. The Perkins Great Eastern Run mascot is one of the fastest athletes in the city. Many argue that he has a huge advantage over fellow competitors due to the fact he’s a seven foot dinosaur. But nobody can deny that he’s at the peak of fitness.
Throughout the next few months, Dinomite and I will be keeping you up-to-date on how our training is going. We’ll be sharing what’s worked best for us and what hasn’t. If you would also like to be trained by a pro, fear not – it’s not just Dinomite in the know. Runners of all abilities are welcome to attend free training sessions that take place at the Peterborough Embankment Athletics Track. The training sessions have been organised by Advance Performance and are held in conjunction with experienced runners and coaches from local running clubs, who will lead the runs.
Each training session begins at 7pm on every other Wednesday from July. For those who don’t have time to participate in regular training sessions, again – don’t worry. Dinomite’s first tip for us is to run everywhere we can. Most people think they don’t have time to squeeze in a regular run. You might have more opportunities than you think. When taking the kids to school, why not then run back home. When nipping to the shop for a pint of milk, why not leave the car at home and run there and back instead. By the end of the week you might be pleasantly surprised how many hours of training you’ve snuck in. There’s still plenty of time to take part in the Perkins Great Eastern Run and Fun Run. YAXLEY FESTIVAL The second Yaxley Festival proved itself another success story. The ESP team popped down at various times over the weekend and whether it was day or night the festival was packed and it was great to see how itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s grown into a major regional entertainment event in just 24 months. Opening the show was TV and Hollywood star Warwick Davis accompanied by Shailesh Vara MP, who led the village's parade and took part in Yaxley's ancient ceremony to invoke Turf Law. Flanked by English civil war era soldiers from the Sealed Knot, the procession of 300 was led by the village's peculiar leafy mascot Jack-in-the-Green through the village. Visitors were treated to a huge selection of attractions, which bridged the gap between the traditional Medieval village fayre, which dates back to 1227, and a thrilling 21st century rock concert. Twenty-two acts lit up the spectacular main stage whilst Stanground Academy showcased the enormous talents of their students on a second stage built around a temporary village green, complete with Maypole. "We were absolutely staggered by the numbers this year," explained Festival Founder Stewart Howe, adding "and this is just the beginning; this event is still in an embryonic stage and will continue to evolve as Cambridgeshire's most ambitious and unique annual family entertainment spectacle." The music stage was impressive with bands including Groove Cartel and Sons of Kal-El seeing festival goers rock into the evening. We thought it was a great weekend so hereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s to next year!

he beers are in the fridge, the snacks are in the cupboard and the 2014 Football World Cup in Brazil is about to begin, which means finally the BBC can stop showing their ruddy advert for it with Thierry Henry! Since Easter, they've shown the promo of him spouting off footballing clichés about memorable moments from past World Cups so frequently, I'm sure I even spotted Ian Beale watching it during an episode of Eastenders. The reason being, the Beeb is getting him to provide analysis in Brazil alongside Gary Lineker & co (Thierry Henry I mean, not Ian Beale). It's a nice idea intercutting clips of the time Henry lifted the World Cup in France '98 with when Bobby Moore, Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto lifted the trophy, but a bit misleading to imply he's also one of the World Cup greats. When they lifted the trophy they were captains of their country, but when France won the 1998 World Cup not only was Thierry not the French captain, he didn't even play in the final! He was an unused substitute. In fact the only thing I can remember about Thierry Henry playing in the World Cup is the cheating I felt he committed. First in 2006 when he pretended he'd been elbowed by Carlos Puyol (he hadn't), and rolled around clutching his face. The free kick he got for it led to the goal that knocked Spain out, and then in a World Cup qualifier play-off match against Ireland for 2010 he handled the ball twice to set up the winner! Arguably the worst piece of footballing cheating in my opinion since Maradona's 'hand of God' goal against England in 1986.
"I never thought about what I could get out of football, I just wanted to play," says Henry inbetween clips of Pele and Cryuff. A noble sentiment, but not very believable coming from someone who seems to have spent his entire career thinking about what he could get out of football! From turning his back on Arsenal to join Barcelona in 2007 because they offered him a more lucrative contract (a reported £6.7m a year) to wearing Nike, Reebok and then Puma football boots (depending on who was willing to pay him the most I assume) or signing a sponsorship deal to flog people the latest Gillette razor that trousered him an estimated £5m a year, marrying, and later divorcing the 'va-va voom' model he starred alongside in the Renault car adverts. Then there’s that celebration for the best ever goal of his career in October 2000 by running to the touchline, holding an imaginary phone to his ear and yelling 'Wasssup' – the annoying catchphrase from that year’s Budweiser advert. Still, with that sort of commitment to football when he was playing, he's bound to have some tricks up his sleeve now he's a pundit. Maybe he'll roll around the studio floor claiming Gary Lineker has elbowed him in the face, or try and pull Gabby Logan and she'll react by putting him in a headlock saying, "I'll tell you wassup pal!" Of course I doubt any of that will happen, and all we'll get is a story Robbie Savage tells about how 'Le hand of God' took an extra croissant from the hotel breakfast buffet. Meanwhile Roy Keane's on the ITV pundit team and he always looks like he's only an ad break away from telling Adrian Chiles to shut the feck up, so that could be worth looking out for.
The Key Monty Python Live Encore Meanwhile following unprecedented demand, the Key Theatre's live screening of Monty Python Live (Mostly) sold out in 72 hours. As a result an encore performance will take place on Saturday August 2 at 7pm. The Python reunion has been one of the most eagerly awaited shows for years and unless you managed to get a ticket for one of the 10 shows at the 02 Arena, this is the next best thing. The Key's live screening equipment means you'll able to see the show in HD and being in a theatre setting with like minded fans promises to be one of the funniest comedy experiences in the Key's 40 year history. LOCAL COUPLE REVIVE THE HERON A Peterborough couple who wanted to see their local survive have taken it on themselves! Meri and Rob Hyde are now hoping to get The Heron at Stanground back to its former glory and have invested in sprucing up the place. They’ve recently opened after having extensive works done but have done much of it themselves along with valuable help from friends, family and the local community demonstrating their dedication to the pub’s survival. Meri told ESP – “What started as an idea in a pub, wondering what was going to happen to our local when it got shut down, has morphed into the most important project I think I’ve ever undertaken! We are passionate about saving our local pub and making it a local’s local, where everyone is welcome. “Myself and my husband are both advocates for Real Ale and are CAMRA members, and as such, we have introduced a range of local ales to the pub from such brewers as Tydd Steam, Castor Ales, Digfield, Oakham and Star Brewing Company to name a few!” They have both Sky Sports and BT Sport available and will also be showing ALL the World Cup games. They have a huge, enclosed beer garden where dogs are welcome, and children are welcome from 12 – 7pm daily as long as they’re properly supervised. There is also a competition ready pool table. Church starting the event on Friday June 20 featuring Tourdion bringing French dance music played on a wide range of instruments like the hurdy gurdy. They promise great music and also the chance to try some traditional Breton dances. This is followed on Saturday by the Liam Robinson Band bringing traditional music from Lincolnshire and surrounding area. It’s disappointing to learn that the very popular Stamford Riverside Festival isn’t happening again this year. Two years ago it was hit by excessive flooding on The Meadows. As a consequence the insurance on the event has made it unviable. Hopefully one day it will return because it gathered a huge following over its 25 years. Now here’s the good news. Visitors to the Stamford Festival have the opportunity in June to visit an entirely new venture which is aiming to encourage a wide range of music throughout the town in different venues, and the organisers hope that this will grow in future years. It starts on Friday June 20 and runs to the following Sunday June 29, with diverse venues all around town, like Mama Liz’s Voodoo Lounge, The Green Man, The Arts Centre and two churches (United Reformed and Barn Hill Methodist). The organisers are mostly gigging musicians themselves, and one of them, Penny Stevens of Pennyless, told ESP – “It’s a very exciting project and although we started with small intentions it seems that with so much interest being shown we’re already at 15 different gigs around Stamford. If it proves popular then there is no reason why it can’t get bigger next year.” So what inspired it? Penny told me – “A few of us were talking one night after a gig and we were discussing all the wonderful venues around Stamford, and how we would all like to really establish a great music vibe in the town. We know the pubs in the area have a vibrant music scene over the weekends, and we wanted to broaden the offerings by trying to also attract more visitors to see many different genres of music. So we formed an organising committee and the idea of coinciding with the Stamford Festival was a natural connection.” The bonus is that as most of the events are away from the river there’s a better chance of it surviving any adverse weather. There really is something for everyone with United Reformed

Saturday June 21, brings two rock gigs with Petrology delivering some classic rock from the 70’s and 80’s to their home town at The Green Man, whilst Evil Scarecrow are at the Voodoo Lounge with their entertaining parody heavy metal show with humorous stage antics. Support comes from two young Peterborough bands, Death Valley Piledriver and We Few Hollow Men. Caprice and Steve Bean are at The Stamford Arts Centre on Monday June 23, with the latter playing virtuoso classical, flamenco guitar and Caprice playing European café music on violin and accordion. At the same venue on Tuesday June 24 there’s an evening of a capella folk music from the powerful voices of trio Hex. In addition some poetry, harp and birdsong from Oundle’s Nick Penny and David Garrett. Mama Liz’s bar host Paspatou on Thursday June 26 featuring an entertaining show of traditional music played on a bizarre range of instruments including PVC tubing! The Arts Centre, on Friday June 27, has Orphicon String Quartet playing a range of music from minimalism to The Beatles. In addition local six piece clarinet ensemble Second Time Around play a set of classical and jazz. Saturday June 28 William East Quire perform in costume, some rural church music and poetry at Barn Hill Church whilst Voodoo Lounge features The Tin Pigeons and Opaque. Finally, on Sunday afternoon there’s an open stage and BBQ hosted by the very popular Pennyless, who’ve been featured at many festivals in the region in the last twelve months. This is at Mama Liz’s and there are bound to be a few surprises and guests on the day. We all want this sort of musical variety back in Stamford, so do support it and it will become a regular fixture in the local calendar. Lexie Green, Peterborough based singer/songwriter has released her debut solo album entitled ‘Breathe’ released under Fifty Road Records. Written, recorded and produced by Lexie, ‘Breathe’ contains an exciting mix of her own compositions, and they show off the versatility of her voice. Tracks ranging from the soulful swing of ‘In This Together’ to the countrified ‘Born This Way’. But her voice really stands out on the title track, ‘Breathe’ and my favourite ‘Goodbye Herotio’. I asked Lexie what her favourite track was. Coincidentally she named the same track but told me – “My favourite does change quite a bit. The trouble with being a songwriter is that after so long mixing a favourite song, you get fed up with hearing it, so you change your mind to another! But later you swing back to it.” Lexie is a prolific songwriter, and found the choice of tracks for the album really difficult to make. The nine tracks were chosen in collaboration with Pete Brazier who mixed the album. It was Pete, known for his work with Simon Cowell, Dolly Parton and John Martyn, who persuaded her to record the tracks that were written some time ago, but never published. “Pete awarded me Best Song at the Strawberry Fair and asked me if he could listen to some of my other work. Having listened to over 60 of my compositions, we eventually brought it down to nine tracks for ‘Breathe’,” she told me. Sounds like there’s plenty more ready for the next album then! Lexie has performed around the UK in venues and at festivals such as Brighton Fringe, Strawberry Fair, Ely Folk Festival and at the Peterborough Christmas lights switch-on, whilst her most recent local performance was at the Hearts in Harmony CD launch at North Street Bar. June starts off with a double date on June 7. Firstly, a return during the day to The Strawberry Fair in Cambridge which she’s looking forward to – “Last year we were in the acoustic tent, this year we are on one of the main stages.” The band is Lexie on vocals and guitar, Sam Carter on drums, and Steve Wilson on bass. Then in the evening of June 7, they appear at The Angel in Yarwell. That’s a busy day, so what about the future? “Hopefully the album will be well received and I’d love one of my compositions to be picked up for a commercial, but as long as people want to see me perform my music, I am happy with that.” With her quality of voice there’s no problem with the latter, and the album is well worth a listen. ‘Breathe’ by Lexie Green is available now and you can get more on www.lexiegreen.com

SOUNDS CENTRAL It’s great to see Sounds Central is returning with some great tunes and good time vibes in Central Park on Sunday June 15.
Organiser Chris Brocklehurst told ESP – “The first two instalments of Sounds Central, in 2012 and 2013, were a resounding success and we’re hoping this one will be even better.” This year's Sounds Central is happening in Central Park from 12 - 6.30pm. The event is free and there’ll be some fantastic bands, a range of arts and craft stalls, and tasty food provided by Magic Organic. Playing live music will be Lunatrix, The Gangsters, Blue Print, Battle Royale, Meg McPartlin and Bes. Central Park has been awarded the Green Flag Award in recent years which mirrors Peterborough City Council’s and The Friends of Central Park's commitment to making, and keeping the park a safe, welcoming, environmentally friendly and well maintained green space.

The National Foundation for Youth Music is calling on musicians, promoters, venue owners and music fans to put on and attend gigs to support the charity’s work and enable thousands of disadvantaged children and young people to have access to life-changing music-making opportunities. Whatever the gig is, in size or music genre, whether in a hall or pub, Give a Gig will be a fun way to bring musicians, friends and communities together to enjoy music, while raising funds to enable others less fortunate to enjoy it too. Youth Music developed the campaign idea as one of the few charities that uses music as a core part of its work.
He’s joining the HM Truants cycle team led by Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood and Alex Milas from Metal Hammer for a 160 mile cycle ride from Alexandra Palace to Download Festival to raise money for Nordoff Robbins, Childline and Teenage Cancer Trust. Gizz told ESP – “I’ve never ridden a bike for this kind of distance before so there is a genuine fear for the condition my a*** will be in , not to mention the fact that I have to wear Lycra which I don’t believe any man looks good in!” So why choose this torture? Gizz explained: “My incentive for this is that I have a very close friend whose teenage daughter has cancer. Her story, and the fact that this year in particular has seen many friends suffer from
the disease and others receive the first earth shattering news. “Now is the time for me to do my bit towards making a difference for cancer sufferers. Please give a donation. I’ll do the suffering for you but even a few pounds will make every bit of difference!” Gizz’s goal is to reach £1500 in donations and given his popularity in the area through playing in various gigs and his guitar teaching it’s highly possible that he can achieve it – with your help!
