Stop press... GUEST OF HONOUR Filming for ITV1’s brand new daytime show ‘Houseguest’ came to town a few weeks ago, and we’ve been told that the Peterborough episodes air from June 23 at 3pm. Basically, the host has four strangers come for a dinner party, and one guest must stay the night! The hosts are competing for a cash prize and so they’re scored on food, hosting and the overnight experience. One local person who took part was John Elson, from Castor – you might know him as a cartoonist for the Evening Telegraph or as a compere and stand up comedian at the likes of King Knut’s Comedy Club or at Mi Familia, Stamford. He says filming was “great fun, if a bit gruelling” as it often didn’t finish until 2am. When it was his turn to be a host, he got the city’s Poet Laureate Mark Grist and local singer/ songwriter James Chadwick to perform as the evening’s entertainment, so keep an eye out for them too! The directors said that Peterborough was a real surprise and the city had a good feel about it. Visit www.itv.com/Lifestyle/House Guest for more details.
wide range of beers, spirits, wines and vodka-based cocktails as well as carefully selected bottled beers. The restaurant will be offering Chinese and Thai food served buffet style, so you can eat as much or as little as you like. We spoke to Colin from Praise, he’s very excited about the launch and told ESP – “Praise restaurant will offer a fine blend of Chinese and Thai cuisine that captures the flavours and colours of the countries, their culture and the soul of the people.” Sounds yummy, see you there!
Jemma Lee, who runs Stamfordbased dance school Jems HipHop, will choreograph the dancing in the video which is being directed by Joby Stevens, who’s worked recently on Casino Royale and Blood Diamond. You could be in it too – they’re filming it on Sunday June 22 at 10.30am at Radius and need 150 people to turn up and be extras in a gig scene for the video.

Hereward FM has launched a brand new charity for disadvantaged kids in the Greater Peterborough area called Hereward FM Kids. They’ll be giving independent grants twice a year to the most deserving local charities – Charity Manager Dan Robson told ESP - "I think that this is an amazing opportunity for Hereward FM to give back to the local community. We have a great relationship with our listeners in Greater Peterborough and with their support we can make a real difference." They’re kicking off the fundraising with ‘Brains of Borough,’ a massive quiz being held at the Marriott Hotel on July 3. It’s your chance to compete for the title of ‘Brains of Borough,’ as well as some amazing prizes such as ten tickets to see Girls Aloud or ten tickets for the ‘Rock With Laughter’ event at Elton Hall. A table for ten will cost £100, so if you grab your mates, that’s only a tenner each! You’ll also get free drinks on arrival and some delicious food, courtesy of the Marriott, who are sponsoring the event. For more information, hit www.hereward.co. uk/charity or call Dan Robson on 01733 281392.

BE IN THE BRAYS VIDEO As you may know, last month The Brays held an Audition at Radius to find the best dancers in the city for the video of their brand new single, ‘Sin.’ Lead singer Gavin Hyde told ESP – “We were completely blown away by how good the dancers are. Peterborough is a really talented place.” After much deliberation, they’ve chosen the final seven who will star alongside local glamour model Kelly Bell – they are Laura Anderson, Emma Sweeney, Natalie Reeves, Jemma Lee, Layla Eyre, Alex Kalandrani and Kimberley Sewell.

Yep The King is amongst us…well one of Britain’s best Elvis acts is. Tim Bassett is renowned nationwide for his excellent stage show and especially his rendition of the Vegas years. Spangled suits and trade mark black quiff are resplendent as he piles through hit after hit with an uncanny likeness. So where can you catch ‘the King’? Over at The Plough at Farcet Fen on June 21. The grand old rocker of the Fens, Colin Harrison is promising a great night - you can grab a meal beforehand, watch the show and if you’re of an outdoor nature, camp overnight to save on taxi fares. Give The Plough a call on 01733 844307 to book your place. It’s the longest day the 21st….the party could be a good one!
PHANTOMS FIRE UP FOR NEW SEASON The Peterborough Phantoms Ice Hockey Club have announced that their new head coach for the coming 2008-2009 season will be Colin Patterson. Colin has most recently worked with Kootenay Ice of the WHL, and was part of the team that took them to the WHL Championship in 2000 and Memorial Cup in 2001. Looks like he’s going to take The Phantoms to the top! They’ve also announced the return of Paul Bignell as General Manager as he proved to be invaluable last season, but are sad to say that Stevie Johnson will be stepping down as Assistant Coach so he can focus on junior hockey.
PRC IN FASHION Congrats to James Burrow (pictured), Kelly Graham and Dawn Fuller at Peterborough Regional College for coming in first and joint second place in a fiercely fought national fashion competition! The University of Northampton ran the competition and entrants had to design a dress with a fuschia pink theme that Lily Allen might wear to Glastonbury, then make it up in a size 12. James Fuller, who came in at first place, will get a VIP ticket to the Graduate Show at University of Northampton, have lunch with other VIP’s, receive a bag of fashion goodies and get a trophy presented to him on the catwalk. The three winners are doing a National Diploma in Art and Design at PRC, so keep an eye out for them in the future!
BIKERS DO THEIR BIT Last month in the mag we reported on The N.A.B.D rally at The Plough which was a charity event that raised money for disabled bikers. ESP - keeping you up-to-date with the latest gossip showed that they had hearts of gold and raised over £2500 for the cause. The bands were great, especially the young Kings Lynn band Termoil and with 400 people turning up and putting their hands in their pockets the atmosphere was brilliant. Creature (yep that’s his name) who organised the do, told Andy the stewards were selling T-shirts off their backs to raise money. Fine people indeed!
we went to press there was more news to come so keep an eye on www.peterboroughspeedway.net for all the latest. They’ve also just tied up a deal with Redcar’s highly rated young Aussie Tyron Procter, which sees the young star take over the No 8 race jacket from James Cockle. Catch the new line-up in action at home against Lakeside on June 19 and against Swindon on June 23.
SALSA SUCCESS
BOAT BOUGHT BY BEER BUFFS
The dancers at everybodysalsa.com are presenting two massive cheques to The Rudolf Fund and S.E.N.S.E on June 9 at 8.25pm. Everybody salsa.com, who run salsa classes at the newly refurbished Flares nightclub, put on a charity Salsa ball at the Polish Club, Stanground and the night was a swinging success. The Rudolf Fund is a local charity which takes special children on unforget-table holidays and S.E.N.S.E is a national charity which supports deaf and blind people. EVERYONE’S A WINNER Congratulations to Nigel Perry from Paston who was the lucky winner of tickets to Rockingham for the British GT3 and the chance to walk the pits and meet Werrington based racing driver James Gornall. The fantastic prize was given by the team at Marshall Dodge who are sponsoring the Peterborough Saxons American Football team this season.

If you thought all that members of the Peterborough branch of CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale) cared about was what their next pint should be, then think again. They collect every year at the Peterborough Beer Festival for the RNLI and so far have raised enough for three Lifeboats, at a cost of around £160,000 each! Their dedication’s led to them receiving the top Supporter Award, which will be presented to David Murray, Mike Lane and Claire Botton by Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall. The guys would like to remind us all that despite all the negative press you hear about young drinkers it was those who helped raise a large proportion of these funds! David Murray, Branch Chairman told ESP – “We’d like to thank everyone who’s donated to the RNLI fundraising over the last few years. We very humbly accept this award on your behalf. Remember at this year’s festival to continue your generosity and chuck it in the bucket!” Peterborough Beer Festival returns this year on August 19-23, so clear your diary. For more information, visit www.beer-fest.org .uk or call 01733 764296.
SPRINGFIELDS GETS EVEN BIGGER! Doesn’t she look fine! Our Face of ESP Kerry Bates was the special guest at this year’s Golden Ball and was the hostess with the mostess as she helped sell raffle tickets and hand out loads of fab prizes.
THE DOGS WITH A DIFFERENCE
We’d never lead you on here at ESP, and you know we always sniff out the best events – that’s why we’re begging you to come and watch the Human Dog Race at Peterborough Dog Track. These nights really take the biscuit, as entrants in dog outfits race around the track to raise money for Sue Ryder Care and Thorpe Hall Hospice. Last year they managed to hound up (like round up?) over £6000, from people placing bets on their favourite human pooch, donations and sponsorship. We spoke to Emma Long from Thorpe Hall, who says –“The Human Dog Race event is always great fun. It’s such a laugh and a bit surreal, plus it helps us raise much needed money!” If you need something different to do with your mates, or colleagues, then why not take part? You get free entry if you do, as well as two free drinks, two free bets and a free dinner – it won’t be Pedigree Chum, we promise! We’ll be there at the launch night on July 22 and the finals, so you might even get yourself in ESP! To enter a team of dogs to canine it down the track, call Emma on 01733 330060 or send her an email at emma.long@suerydercare.org. They’re also offering corporate sponsorship from £50, so you can do your bit for charity as well as getting exposure.
The night was organised by Claire and Sallie Hankins and was the third event in memory of their dear Dad. More than 200 people glammed it up and had a fantastic night at the Holiday Inn at Thorpe Wood raising around £3,000 for Thorpe Hall. Needless to say Kerry had a wonderful night joined by her boyfriend Chris Whelpdale from Peterborough United and our own Susan Saunders – “It was a fantastic evening with some beautiful prizes! I really wanted to win the Golden egg but my lucky number didn’t come up. Chris loved the champagne and the dance floor! I hope they raised a lot of money for Sue Ryder, they deserve to as it was such a lovely evening.” If you’re admiring Kerry’s gorgeous dress, she was decked out beautifully by Fusion, High Street, Market Deeping – if you have a posh do to go to we can thoroughly recommend them, they have a great range of dresses to die for! This one was even designed by former local girl and Arthur Mellows Village College student Jemma Vanner who now designs for Linzi Jay. Just give the girls at Fusion a call on 01778 344202.

RACE FOR LIFE HITS THE BORO
DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
After the fantastic success of the Stamford event last month, the charity run everyone’s talking about arrives in the Boro. On June 24 and 25, thousands of women from across Greater Peterborough will be grabbing their trainers, strapping on their sports bras and heading down to Ferry Meadows for this year’s Race For Life.
It’s time to ask yourself are you man enough this June as the Dragon Boat Festival returns to Peterborough to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
Raising money for Cancer Research UK, the annual event is open to women of all ages and abilities, and despite its sporty sounding title, there are no prizes for winning, or getting round the 5K course in world record time. Run, walk or crawl, it really doesn’t matter, because Race For Life is such a fantastic event that really, just to take part will make you feel like you’ve won the Gold. Everyone has had their lives touched by Cancer in some way, and that’s what makes this event so special – there’s no better way to celebrate those who’ve beaten the disease or more positive, uplifting way to remember those who sadly haven’t.
Not only does the festival provide a day of great fun and entertainment on the River Nene, it also raises cash for charity, Amanda Hussey works at Greenstones and has entered a team and told ESP “Another important factor to us here at Greenstones is being able to raise money for charity. In the past our staff have taken part in the London marathon and a bike ride from Land’s End to John O’ Groats so we’re looking to raise as much money as possible for the Dragon Boat Festival nominated charity, Peterborough SportsAid Foundation.”
The event starts at 7.30pm (although you should allow plenty of time to get there as the roads around Ferry Meadows get very congested) and you do have to pre-register for your sponsor form to take part. You should also take water and wear suitable shoes. Radio station 102.7Hereward FM will again be playing host with Kev Lawrence from the breakfast show compering and giving the girls encouragement as they cross the line. For more info, log onto www.raceforlife.org or visit www.hereward.co.uk
Teams from across the county will be sweating it out as they all go head to head in one of the most unique and fun competitions to compete in.
There’ll be loads of bankside events as well with live music and entertainment which includes ‘Dragon Idol’, this is a chance for your team to perform and basically have some fun on 102.7 Hereward FM’s roadshow stage. The festival takes place on June 22, the boats and racing equipment are provided and each team is guaranteed at least three races. If you’re interested in entering a team call Gable Events on 01780 470718. Liam Papworth

Kicking off this year’s Oundle International Festival is the ever popular Picnic in the Park fireworks concert on July 12. The Fireworks display will be as spectacular as ever, and this year the concert has a New Orleans jazz theme. Kicking off the entertainment will be Redbeans ‘N’ Rice parade band, who’ve led a fair few carnivals - and funeral processions – with their authentic style New Orleans Jazz. Following them will be The Jive Aces, who got the whole crowd swinging and jiving when they last played the festival in 2006. Headlining the entire evening is Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and it was a real coup for the organisers to get this world-famous band. ESP GIRLS GIVE FARMERS SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT! Not long to go to the month’s big event, the East of England Country Show and this year our ESP girls will be adding some extra glam to the event and will no doubt be giving the farmers something to cheer about! Our fabulous ESP Dance Crew will be appearing each day on the main stage in the new exec exhibition hall – have you seen this venue yet, it’s huge! Our models will also be hitting the catwalk for the fashion show over the weekend showing you some of the great gear you can buy from stall holders at this year’s event. Drop by our stand in the main hall too, to bag yourself some goodies. We’ll be there for all three days capturing the action. It’s not all tractors at the show these days, the event celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and things have changed a lot. There’s plenty for all the family including celebrity chefs James Tanner and Lesley Waters and our own ESP columnist Karen Devine in the food hall, where there’ll be loads of lovely munchies to buy. You can get plenty of retail therapy as there are over 400 trade stands to browse plus there’s main ring action and stunts as well as evening concerts with the Lounge Lizards and Boney M so you can really make a day of it. Catch the ESP Dance Crew around lunchtime on Friday June 13 and early afternoon. See the fashion shows on Saturday June 14 starting at around noon and on Sunday June 15 starting at around 10.30pm. See you there! It’s free entry on Friday but the weekend tickets are £11 for adults and £23 for families in advance. Call 0845 450 6425 or see www.showground.org.uk
The third annual ESP Big Quiz was another whopper of a success at The Brewery Tap raising hundreds of pounds for Sue Ryder Care Thorpe Hall Hospice. Here they are, the triumphant winners after three years of trying, ‘The Riseholme Ruffians’ with 85 points. These guys came second in both previous years, but finally beat ‘The Fen Boy Three’ into second place with 80 points. Well done guys – sweet success at last eh? In third place it was the bizarrely named ‘Hello Penguin Goodbye Fish’ with 77 points, then the ‘Whittlesey All Rounders’ with 73 points and finally the ‘Lite Fantastics’ from city radio station Lite FM with 72 points. The radio guys had snaffled our own Pep Cipriano into their team, who as you’ll see from his Man About Town column had a bone to pick with the quizmaster Ian Gray! Nobody mention the word ‘Bond’ OK! The winners racked up a cracking pot of prizes including meals at The Greyhound Stadium and The Cherry Tree who’d both generously sponsored the Big Quiz so thank you guys! Twenty-four teams took part including teams from Norwich & Peterborough Building Society, The East of England Show, Peterborough Environment City Trust and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee amongst others. We’ll have more photos from the night in next month’s Paparazzi pages so make sure you grab a copy at the end of the month.

MTV HERE I COME!
Yours truly has been handed a cameo appearance in a pop video, which is to be filmed here in the city at Radius and Angels at the end of the month. I’m to play a gambler in a casino scene with luscious local glamour model Kelly Bell in city band The Brays’ first ever video.
Their brilliant single ‘Sin’ tells the story of band members Keith, Badger, Edie and Matt sinning (seven deadly sins) while lead singer Gavin does his best to resist temptation. The boys have managed to secure the services of a top director who has worked on blockbuster films including The Golden Compass, Casino Royale and Blood Diamond. This could have been filmed outside of the city but the boys are determined to put something back into Peterborough after taking so much support and inspiration from their home town. The Brays were looking for local dancers to appear in the video and invited me to be on the judging panel at auditions. The search for all six girls came to an end after watching over three hours of dance moves from more than two-dozen hopefuls. Highlight of the auditions were a couple of lap dancers who insisted on performing on Gavin (one twice because the CD was scratched and she kept losing her ‘place’). I get all the rubbish jobs I know. You can join me in the video – they’re filming it on Sunday June 22 at 10.30am at Radius and need 150 people to turn up and be extras – with these dancers on show I’m sure they’ll have no problems! In the meantime you can check out The Brays here: www.myspace.com/thebraysbands

I haven’t a clue what it’s all about but it seems that loads of revellers in the city’s bars and clubs are doing ‘The Claw’ and having photos of them posted all over Facebook. Here I am doing ‘The Claw’ too, with lovelies Stephanie Plastow and Amelia Enright. I’m confused; someone please let me in on it!

CITY HOSTS FIRST DAVID HAYE DINNER
Undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world, David Haye, will be coming to Peterborough to host his first-ever dinner on June 12 thanks to promoter Kevin Sanders who continues to bring some of the biggest names in boxing to the city’s Marriott Hotel.
An Evening With David Haye follows the success of the recent night with former heavyweight champion Joe Bugner where I attended with Face of ESP, Kerry Bates, who thought she was going to see a ‘boxing game.’ Despite battling with a serious spine problem, Joe was a charming man and captured the audience with colourful stories from his boxing career including his two magnificent battles with the great Muhammad Ali. MORTGAGE YOUR
I’ve got one word to say, or rather one date – and that’s 1962. Yes, 1962. In fact I’ll write it again in case quizmaster Ian Gray hasn’t noticed it – here you go Ian, 1962. You see 1962 was the year of the first James Bond film, Dr No. Now anyone who regularly listens to the Lite FM breakfast show with Keith Dalton will know I have a Wednesday slot with the Yoda of the airwaves (8am-8.30am) where we talk about all sorts. You’ll be aware then that I possess an exceptional talent for knowing what year films and records were released, as Yoda will often quiz me and testify. With talent like this it’s no wonder Lite FM begged me to join their team (Lite Fantastics) at last month’s Big Quiz held at The Brewery Tap, which is staged every year to raise money for the Sue Ryder Hospice, Thorpe Hall. Naturally, I played a major part in the team finishing a more than respectable 5th place out of 24, but it turns out we could have come in joint fourth had quizmaster Gray got the right answer to the Bond question instead of announcing it was 1964! My appeals fell on deaf ears, as the quizmaster’s answer is final but I’m glad we never had to dispute the answer to: name all five British Eurovision Song Contest entries beginning with ‘J’ ?. We were the only team that got this right and that was thanks to Gregg Nunney who obviously doesn’t get out much, bless him.
AMARETTO MAKING ITS MARK
For someone who’s been drinking it ever since he can remember, it’s good to hear more and more townies ordering Amaretto over the bar instead of predictable JD or vodka. Steve Jason of Met Lounge and City Club fame tells me he was the first to sell it in the city (Met Lounge). This is a bold statement typical of Steve who loves the sound of his own voice. Surely it was sold as early as the late 70s / early 80s in places like Millionaires, Viva La Rock or Rinaldo’s? I’ll give him credit for being the first to introduce a new kind of ‘spicy’ whiskey though. Pop into The Met (if you like your hair in your face and wear eye liner) or the City Club (if you want to see a fit barmaid) and try some.
STAYING FOCUSED ON THE TASK AHEAD…
These two good-looking but sweaty Italian ponies completed the Eye 10k in a respectable time last month in Sahara-like humidity with a tight hamstring, flatulence and a few pounds of excess fat between them. They say completing feats like this is all about the fortress of the mind (not succumbing to pain or tiredness). I’d argue that the sight of quite a few firm ladies’ bums in cycle shorts in front of them for most of the race provided just the tonic for these boys to cross the finish line. Lock up your daughters; we’re doing the Abbey 10k this month…

A POULTRY SUM Something so nonse-hen-sical happened to me at Asda recently that I just had to get it off my ample chest. Asda, lovely people that they are, sell ready cooked roast chicken for £3.88 - great for lazy butts like me. And if you don’t want a whole one, they’ll be egg-stremely helpful and happily cut it and sell you half a one for two quid, genius. So why is it that this week, when I asked for a complete chicken, but asked them to cut it for me so I could freeze one half, did they try and charge me £2 each?! And when I questioned it, told me they “have to charge that, you’re having two halves.” Looking round warily before remembering Jeremy Beadle was dead, I asked if she was yolking, sorry, joking. “No,” she replied “you’re having two halves, that’s what halves cost.” The point that I was actually buying one whole one in two pieces seemed to be lost. Now I’m not ‘cheep’ so I didn’t argue over the 12p but let’s just say, I was totally clucked off!

SPICE UP YOUR SEX LIFE According to recent reports in a magazine, Posh Spice Victoria Beckham maintains her super slim figure on a diet of cigarettes and sex with husband David. Scary Spice Mel B has also declared that the body that has made her the new face, or rather bum and boobs, of Ultimo undies is maintained by burning calories during, you guessed it, sex with her husband. Anyone spotting a pattern here? Hmmm, call me cynical, but if that’s true, to get that skinny, they must have had a LOT of sex, and I’m talking Russell Brand proportions. No wonder they had to end their world tour early, they must have been shattered.

JOB LOT OF ID IOTS
Every Wednesday evening at 9pm, you can guara ntee that me and the husband will be sat goggle eyed, glued to The Apprentice. And every Wednesday evening about 9.10pm, I can guarantee that the husband will be saying - "You know, you really should go on this show, you'd be much better than them." And finally, every Wednesday at about 9.11pm, he rubs his bruised arm better and gets the point that I really couldn't think of anything worse. I just don't get these people. I've never had any interest in business, hate working in an office, have never "closed a sale", never power dressed, never proudly told the world that I'm arrogant because I'm the best and never EVER proclaimed that Billionaire Alan Sugar would be a fool not to hire me. So why is it that every week as the teams start planning their strategies for the latest task, I can be found screaming at the telly, frustrated at their stupid ity and utterly convinced that I could do it better. I can't have been the only one to immediately spot the irony of creating ‘eco cards’ to raise awareness of environmental issues , or to be cringing behind a cushion as the self proclaimed ‘good little Jewish boy’ thought a Muslim prayer would make a chicken Kosher, or sat agog as he employed his so called killer sales technique to try and harangue a brideto-be to put in an order for a £600 wedding cake withou t the groom. Planning my wedding, I had a travel agent telling me she thought I was "absolutely ridiculously stupid" for wanting to talk to himself first, rather than bookin g the honeymoon deal she'd found me on the spot. Yes lady, and just how much more ridiculously stupid would I have to be to shell out £2K of the budget without telling him first? I can so imagine the conversation later that day at home let's just say, no deal is that blooming good! And that is precisely my point, you can have as much ambiti on, arrogance, shoulder pads, flip charts, graphs, ‘blue sky thinking’ and sales patter as you want but if you haven't got a nano spec of common sense, or an ounce of likeability you might as well forget it. If only the show was a bit more Big Brother like, I’d have happily blown my honeymoon budget – on dialing the premium rate number to vote them all off. And on the subject of The Apprentice, if pillow faced super bitch Claire “lurves fasherrrn” as much as she claims to, why is it she never seems to wear anything other than black and her granny’s pearls – maybe funera l chic is in?

CityFASHION Trying to bag yourself your very own Mr Big? Why not shape up your wardrobe Sex and the City stylee. ESP’s Joanne Quinney delves into the world of high heels and Cosmopolitans…
ity style
It’s been four years in the pipeline, and finally the wait is over. Sex and the City has finally hit the big screen. Throughout the late 90s and early 2000’s the show set in New York was a style bible to girls around the world. You weren’t worth your Manolo’s if you hadn’t heard of selfconfessed singleton Carrie Bradshaw. The character played by Sarah Jessica Parker was a style icon, creating new and interesting (sometimes a bit out there) looks on a weekly basis. So where better to look when hitting the stores this month than the four fabulous women from the hugely successful show, each with different styles, but all creating the polished city look. Whether you’re more Charlotte than Carrie, more Miranda than Samantha, there’s a look to suit all tastes, styles and shapes. If you want a day time, office friendly look but still want to stay uber high in the fashion stakes opt for bright colours, perfect for willing on the sunshine! Go for bright greens, yellows and pinks; Warehouse is full of them at

the moment. There’s a variety of shapes for skirts around at the moment, go for full printed skirts dressed up with heels and a waist belt to make the transition from day time into evening, just in case you fancy a Cosmopolitan after work! Work the cute look like Charlotte with a prom dress - not to be left in the wardrobe just for the occasional ball, this flattering shape is all over the high street and makes the perfect dress for hitting the town with the girls or attending a wedding. The New York look may seem impossible to bring to every day life, but it isn’t. Whether you’re at the office or doing lunch, the fabulous foursome know how to inject that all important piece of glamour into any outfit. Mark it in your diaries girls, Sex and the City is back, and so are all the highly anticipated fabulous clothes! Our thanks to Latinis restaurant and cocktail bar on New Road, Peterborough for the use of their bar... and some fabulous cocktails!

likelihood that they'd get it to the top only for it to comically roll back down as they lean on it for a rest (Laurel & Hardy style) would be worth waiting for. If that didn't happen then I could see one of them dropping it on the other's foot like the monkeys in the old PG Tips advert "Hey, Frank, d'yer know the piano's on me foot?" "You hum it Stevie, and I'll play it son!" As you can see the possibilities are endless. Who wants to debate 4-4-2 when there's the important matter of who's going to do the grouting in Fabio's bathroom? Do you give it to one of the teams’ 'flair' players like Joe Cole, or do you get the versatile Gareth Barry to come in and "do a job for you", and hope he doesn't install a 1970's avocado coloured bathroom suite?
DIY ENGLAND SOS No, I still don't believe it either. A major football tournament’s about to begin and England aren't in it. Luckily I’ve got a solution…When Fabio Capello gave Rio Ferdinand the captain’s armband in a friendly match I heard Rio on Radio 5. He talked about what it took to be a captain and how in Gary Neville's absence at Man United, Ryan Giggs had stepped into the role commenting "Giggy's come up in and taken up the mantelpiece." I'm sure what he meant to say was - "Giggy's come in and taken up the mantel," but I could be wrong. Perhaps instead of working out at the gym, Rio and Giggsy build their body strength by ripping out mantelpieces in old houses? Wherever the phrase came from, all I know is that BBC and ITV are missing a trick. If there's one thing that the nation loves it's football and home makeover shows. Put the two together and what do you get – ‘DIY ENGLAND SOS’. Here's the pitch... Fabio Capello has bought a trendy London townhouse that needs renovating. To help him decide who should be the next England captain, he gives the job to the England players.

It would also give Gary Lineker a chance to sit back in his chinos and crack some of his lame jokes - "Let's go and have a look at how Ashley Cole got on with a wallpaper stripper... I hope Cheryl's not watching." But the fun doesn’t stop there, imagine seeing David James in charge of re-wiring the house (let's face it, judging by the state of his hair if he accidentally electrocuted himself, no one would notice). Peter Crouch could paint all the ceilings and clear leaves/dead pigeons from the guttering (he wouldn't need a ladder) and David Beckham can be relied upon to do at least 10 minutes hard graft when David Bentley's cream crackered from running cups of tea upstairs to Wayne Rooney. Of course one question that's puzzled England fans for years is how to get the best out of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. In terms of a house makeover, will they be able to work in tandem together or just get in each other’s way? If it was me I'd put them in charge of moving Fabio's priceless 18th century grand piano up Notting Hill and into the house. The

Any jobs requiring heavy lifting will probably be left to John Terry who’ll want to impress Fabio with his work rate. We also know that Fabio is a fan of Italian artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, so if JT's done his homework he won't be putting up a painting titled ‘Dogs Playing Pool in a Pub’. The focal point of the house will of course be the mantelpiece which is where Rio's knowledge will prove invaluable. And with any luck, in two years time, as Fabio sits in his living room there on the mantelpiece in pride of place will be the FIFA World Cup following England's thrashing of Germany in the final... either that or his P45 from the FA.
THE MR POSH MONOCLE UPDATE
Last month I raised the issue of the ‘monocle mystery’ as the Peterborough United mascot 'Mr Posh' seems to have curiously lost his famous eyewear lately. Several Posh fans I've spoken to feel it’s only right it should return, including Simon Bossett who's been a season ticket holder since 1980 and even has a 'Mr Posh' tattoo on his shoulder which he designed himself (complete with monocle). I've also spoken to Club Historian, Peter Lane who’s confirmed that he’d also welcome the return of the monocle, so my campaign gathers pace - watch this space folks!
JOKES OF THE MONTH
"Two dyslexics walking down the street, and one says to the other, 'can you smell something?' and the other one says 'Smell something?, I can't even smell my own name" - Ian Cognito "The reason Richard Branson didn't buy Northern Rock, is because he'd have to rename it 'Northern Virgin', and in my experience there's no such thing" - Marcus Brigstocke "Why is it when people call their cat in at night it sounds like they’re ordering food in a Moroccan restaurant - ‘Cous cous, cous cous’ " - Jo Enright
STAND OUT, STAND UP For those of you looking for a funny night out over the next month, here's what my brain recommends… Ken Dodd at The Broadway on Saturday June 27. Celebrating 50 years in showbiz, Ken Dodd deserves to be seen at least once in your life. His performances have a habit of over-running, so you might not make it home until Sunday lunchtime. My advice is to drink plenty of coffee before you go. The Broadway box office: 01733 316100. Barry Castagnola at Ship of Fools Comedy Club, Stamford, Friday June 28. I saw Barry in a comedy play in Edinburgh last year, and he was very good. Don't just take my word for it though. Sitting two rows in front of me I noticed Jimmy Carr who laughed very loudly, especially at Barry's impression of a German 'adult' film star. Stamford Arts Centre box office: 01780 763203. Also make a note in your diary for ‘Rock with Laughter’ on August 15 at Elton Hall which sees the likes of Jasper Carrott, Lenny Henry and Jo Brand lineup with some great live bands too including The Blockheads with Phil Jupitus and The Bootleg Beatles. You’ll notice an advert for it elsewhere in the magazine, and you can also get tickets from The Broadway and Stamford Arts Centre. Chris Bailey, event manager for promoters IML Concerts told ESP - “This is a show with something for everyone and we’re looking forward to having a good laugh with all the audience at this historic home. There’ll be three decades of music and comedy stars on one stage on one night – surely a first for an outdoor show in such a charming setting – and we feel that this show will appeal across many age groups. “We’ll be installing a giant screen at the venue to enhance viewing pleasure and hope that everyone will come along ready to ‘rock with laughter’!” Booking line: 01603 660444 or visit www.imlconcerts.co.uk.

CatwalkFASHION ESP was lucky enough to be invited to New College Stamford’s very own fashion show. The clothes were designed, made and modelled by the A Level students themselves. Joanne Quinney reports back from the catwalk… It was a night of glitz and glamour when the A Level students from New College Stamford took their work to the catwalk to show an audience of local press, family and friends what they were capable of. The show opened with an oriental theme, creations that looked to be inspired by Memoirs of a Geisha. I caught up with the fashion design student’s teacher at the end of the show and she said that the upper sixth students were given free reign to design anything they liked. This could have been a fatal task but they pulled out all the stops to create very different looks, all fit for the catwalk. Another project the students were given was to design a line that could be sold by George at Asda, then present their ideas in front of the board for George. The top three winners won vouchers to spend at George, and these were presented on the night by a member of the George team. I took a peak at the presentation portfolios that the students designed, and I have to say they were impressive. The college provided free drinks and gorgeous canapés during the interval. The night was slick and there was plenty to watch. I had my eye on a stunning metallic gold dress that opened the second half of the show, this range was wearable and bang on trend. Many of the outfits were wacky and quite out there, but were very fitting for the catwalk show and showed what inspired these individuals at that time. Well done to everyone involved, a fab night of fashion was had by all! his own studio! “It’s fantastic that Kerry and Susan have taken on the challenge of becoming panellists on ‘Talking Peterborough’ – they keep me on my toes because every time I turn the microphone on I wonder what they’re going to say next! The idea of the programme is for local people from all walks of life to talk about the things that matter to them, and both Kerry and Susan have a madcap fast-paced take on Peterborough that always leads to a few surprises. “James Wood from the Marriott helps me to calm the crazyness down with one or both of the girls every Thursday. “ Lite FM has had quite a revamp lately and the Talking Peterborough slot between 2pm and 3pm sees a variety of guests drop in to chat about whatever’s happening in the city or the news that day and to enjoy a bit of a laugh.
ESP tunes in to Peterborough The ESP guys and girls have been taking over the airwaves at Lite FM lately as the city radio station has made several of us regular participants on the ‘Talking Peterborough’ show with Gregg Nunney in the afternoons. In the mornings though, Man About Town Pep Cipriano has been a regular on Keith Dalton’s ‘Early Morning Wake Up’ for a few months now, you can catch him chewing the

fat with Keith on Wednesday mornings from 8am, but now the girls are causing chaos too. ESP editor Sharon McAllister pops in most Tuesday afternoons and Face of ESP girls Susan Saunders and Kerry Bates are regulars on Thursday afternoons. Sometimes Gregg even gets the pair of them in together and the poor guy doesn’t stand a chance in

“Monday’s I’m joined by the Primary Care Trust to talk about local health issues,” explains Gregg. “Tuesdays it’s someone from one of the City Council’s various departments, along with ESP editor Sharon McAllister. Wednesday’s regular guest is Ken Craig from Rawlinsons Accountants, while on Friday Dave King from The Broadway and Anna Elmore from Waterstones join in the fun.” Tune into 106.8FM weekdays or give them a call to throw in your views, you can be part of the programme too by calling 01733 704106 or by texting Lite and your message to 81800.

SUMMER HAIR FOR CITY GIRLS…
The new Sex and the City movie is already a massive hit and every girl can identify with at least one of the stylish foursome from New York, so why not make like Carrie and co this summer and give your hair a stylish new look?
Cancer Research UK has just launched its latest Sunsmart campaign, which focuses on alerting us to the dangers of using sunbeds. Over exposure to artificial UV on sunbeds can be just as dangerous as staying out too long in sun. The intensity of some UV rays from sunbeds can be 10-15 times higher than the midday sun and can lead to danger of skin cancer.
You don’t need to go for the chop to give the SATC girls a run for their money – we’ve got everything you need to keep up with the latest hair trends so you’ll look sweeter than Charlotte, trendier than Carrie and sleeker than Samantha!
Jane Redman, Cancer Research UK spokesperson for the East of England, said: “You can’t always see the damage that UV does straight away. It builds up over time. But every time you use a sunbed you are harming your skin and increasing your risk of skin cancer.”
Mick Bird from Michael John Salon in Peterborough has given us his expert tips for what’ll be hot for your hair this summer and top of the list is curls! So make like Carrie and work some tousled tresses, perfect when the weather hots up. You don’t need to come over all eighties and get a perm – you can use straighteners or even the new tool on the scene - ‘the wand’ - to create laid back curls which’ll be perfect for a summer of fun in Peterborough! If you’d prefer to go for a lower maintenance look, Mick tells us the bob will still be big for summer. So why not be brave and go for the chop like Miranda - wear it whichever way takes your fancy - asymmetric, curved fringes, tousled, layered and textured, feathery, the list is endless. If you prefer to make like Samantha and go blonde, Mick recommends natural, multitones for a relaxed, summer sunkissed style that’ll take you from the beach to Peterborough and back again! For all you Charlotte fans, it’s even easier to create a sleek and polished salon-style finish with the help of the new ProCeramic AC dryer from TRESemmé Philips. This groomed girl’s dream is available from Argos in Queensgate, a snip at £30. Whatever your style of choice this season, don’t let the styling take its toll on your hair. Try the new range of heat defence products from Andrew Collinge, available at Boots, independent chemists and supermarkets in our area. The shampoo, conditioner, protecting and conditioning spray, as well as shine spray help protect all hair types against heat damage, leaving hair smooth and shiny. Perfect. So what are you waiting for? Get styling!

BOYS - ARE YOU THE NEXT NICKY CLARKE?
When you think of celebrity hair stylists, Charles Worthington, Nicky Clarke and Lee Stafford come to mind straight away, so it’s hard to believe there’s a shortage of male hairdressers in our area. The team at Peterborough Regional College are turning this around by encouraging more young guys to take their courses in hairdressing. One of the few guys on a hairdressing course at PRC is 19 year-old Kieran Hanley. He’s in his second year of hairdressing and he’s loving every minute of it. He goes to college once a week to study with the rest of his class, needless to say who are all female, and works four or five days a week at PKai salon at Serpentine Green, Hampton. As PKai are planning to open a second salon in Westgate Arcade very soon, there’ll be even more opportunities for male hairdressers in Peterborough coming up! Kieran told me there’s loads of good points to being a male hairdressing student - “I’ve always shown an interest in hairdressing and I love being around people. Being the only lad in a class of 20 lovely ladies is a perk too! No seriously, I’ve always been very creative. My mates gave me some stick when I first decided to take up hairdressing but they’re envious now and are always asking me to cut and style their hair!” If you’re interested in hairdressing, contact the Information Centre on 0845 8728722 or log onto www.peterborough.ac.uk to find out more.

HOOTS MAN, THERE’S JOOCE, LOOSE ABOOT THIS HOOSE! No I’m not talking the wine gums, I’m talking real juice. Having just completed a marathon run of delivering detox retreats in Scotland I can tell you I have never drunk so many ‘healthy‘ juices in such a short space of time! The thought of not eating any food for a few days can be quite daunting for some as they cannot imagine one day without their favourite grub, let alone the choccie bars, beer or whatever else they crave each day. Most people who come along to the detox sessions I work on are generally surprised at how ‘not hungry’ they are. Juicing, supplements and other detoxification tools keep their bodies nourished which stops them ‘craving’ foods as the body in its wisdom feels that it’s getting what it has needed for so long. The benefits of juicing… Easily absorbed nutrients Gives the digestive system a rest from heavy clogging foods Brings natural enzymes Gives great vitality and energy Helps to decongest and de-pollute the body Helps the body to rejuvenate Great as part of a healthy eating routine For most of us however, juicing or detoxing is really not something we can do at home with kids, work, social calendars or whatever else in life takes our time. But taking good healthy vegetables and small amounts of fruits in a juice can boost our nutrient intake (make sure you drink them within 15-20mins of making them). Maximising nutrients is the key to good health. Imagine wading through a handful of carrots, celery and apples. Apart from jaw ache, most of us don’t have the hour spare to eat them! But juiced up, you take the best from the veggies. OK you’re not getting the fibre but by eating a good whole food diet you will be getting your good fibre from grains, fruits and veggies.

So what are you waiting for? Get juicing!
Talking of juices, it’s great to see we will soon have a natural juice bar in Peterborough’s Westgate Arcade (Fruit Aid), so there are no excuses now. Most people don’t like making juices as the cleaning of the juicer takes too long - pop along to Steve at the juice bar, and he’ll do it for you! Cheers! It’s just a jump to the left… Let’s do the Time Warp at Peterborough Festival! Fishnets at the ready, there’s a fresh and funky twist to the Fest this year as Peterborough folk get a rare opportunity to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show screened in the open-air. It’s sure to bring in fans of the movie from across the country as well and is just one of the great new additions which will rock the Peterborough Festival this year. New events like Hydromania, a lights and water show like you’ve never seen on the river, should open up the Festival to a whole new audience. So, don’t book your hols just yet and keep June 28 to July 5 free so you don’t miss a thing. You know we like it lively, so ESP Magazine is pleased to back The Rocky Horror Picture Show as the official media supporter and will be there on the night with the ESP Dance Crew making sure you rock your socks off.
CENTRAL PARK WEEKEND
Festival organiser Joe Ballard told ESP – “The Rocky Horror Picture Show is very rarely screened open-air and has never been done like this! We're going to have a live band for the pre-film warm up with the ESP Dancers helping teach everyone the Time Warp and the film will be on a giant screen on the Embankment. It’s the best way to experience such a cinema classic - and it's another free event!” For Rocky Horror Show virgins this rock musical is a parody of horror and sci-fi films which has become a cult classic. The stage show encouraged the audience to interact by dressing up, cheering and bringing various props and that soon followed into cinemas when the film was released in 1975. Joe added – “To top it off, we've got the lovely Patricia Quinn (original Magenta of stage and screen) to talk and meet fans at The Key Theatre before the film screening. After the film will be a Rocky Horror After Show Party inside the theatre, where more fans can meet Patricia - as they're all dressed up, they can all party on down!”
Festival brochures are now available at various outlets across the area, or check out www.peterboroughfestival.com

Confessions... Susan Saunders
susan.saunders@espmag.co.uk
Ready to bare all as a summer stunner, or have the snack attacks made you more ‘beach belly’ than ‘beach belle’? You know how it is girls, suddenly half the year has miraculously disappeared, summer’s suddenly round the corner and so I figured it was time to do my six-month checklist. 1. January – complete 14-day trail at the gym. Don’t sign up permanently because you get bored after day four. a 2. Pay off credit card from too much spending (yet again) on Christmas presents. Note to self – it is REAL money, which needs paying back! a 3. February - give up something for Lent (Brussels sprouts don’t count)a 4. Give up, giving something up for Lent (after two days) as Brussels didn’t count a 5. March – eat one of your ‘3 for 2’ Easter eggs that are left over. You bought five too many in error (sure) as you were never really going to send them to your twice-removed cousin who’s travelling in Thailand, were you?a 6. April – finish left over Easter eggs – blurgh!a
All was looking perfectly on target until I stumbled across the next point that was under May… 7. May – Begin fitness regime ahead of holiday in June and holiday season in general. X “Oh noooo!” OK so don’t panic (I thought to myself), there’s still time to remedy this situation, like three weeks and counting until my first of two gals holidays planned this summer. Due to time constraints, it became apparent that I’d no longer be able to run 10 miles a day for six weeks (shame!). I ask myself, would this have happened anyway – I think not?! Nor can I do two hundred sit ups every day for six weeks before my holiday… or possibly ever! There is something that I can do though – no, not the ‘lemonade diet’ (I only lasted three days on that and it made me feel ekky!) but to get myself down the gym with my iPod Shuffle (bought three months prior for this very purpose). Do this, or be doomed to wearing an oversized, but gorgeous, Kaftan* for the entire duration of my holidays. Brushing the cobwebs aside and lifting my untouched iPod from its packaging, and donning my snow white trainers, which had also never really seen the light of day – I set about my day trip to the gym. This making a pact to get myself toned malarkey seems to happen every summer. So much so that I feel I may need to make the date an official annual diary entry. It would slot in
between spring and official UK summer and be called the ‘get toned NOW season’. Perhaps if I could somehow second guess myself on a yearly basis, I might end up not having to tone up at all next year?! I cast my mind back to my tone up mission for last year’s holiday to Marbella. Being about five weeks behind schedule, I had to call in the heavies in the form of my personal trainer Adam (Adam F), AKA ‘The Machine’** My ‘get fit quickly, for those with big lazy derrières’ course***, consisting of running (soooo much running!), crying, boxing, crying, weights, crying and more crying! The first time a tear snuck out from behind my left eyeball, Adam was genuinely concerned for me. He soon realised however, that if I saw this as a way to get out of exercise, a few more tears would sneak out too. The events that followed are what gave him the name – ‘The Machine’! Needless to say, I had a fantastic time with the girlies in Marbella partying into the night and spending the days munching through my not-so-secret-stash of snacks, obviously undoing all the hard work that I’d undertaken at The Machine’s boot camp. Cringing on my trip back from memory lane, I am somehow not looking forward to the thought of bearing all for my hols. I am, however looking forward to non stop BBQ’s, trampoline parties and the general socialising that the summer brings (not forgetting my birthday in July, most importantly!) I can’t help but wish it was summer all year round! Happy hols guys – if you see me at the beach I will be fully equipped with my kaftan, Loréal tone up cream (plenty of it) and a big bag of Quavers! Susan’s disclaimer *Gorgeous Kaftan, bought from my equally gorgeous friend in Oasis at Westgate House (now that’s a plug if ever I saw one!). **When I say ‘The Machine’, please don’t think this is a bad thing, unless you need an oversized kick up the equally oversized derrière, like me! Adam is an amazing trainer and twice I have enlisted his help to drop 1.5 dress sizes in a matter of weeks. He can be found at Bannatynes gym in Peterborough! ***The ‘get fit quickly, for those with big lazy derrières’ course doesn’t exist . The course is nameless but if it did have a name, this is what it would be called!

Caught in the a ESP PAPARAZZI
BEERS AND CHEERS AT CHARTERS! This month’s Paparazzi crew of lensman Pep Cipriano and very glamorous assistants Kerry Bates and Susan Saunders dropped in on the Charters beer festival and took a few snaps of the revellers enjoying the sunshine! It couldn’t have been a more perfect weekend – glorious weather and Posh’s last game of the season meant that half of Peterborough went along to enjoy the 60+ Real Ales and to toast Posh’s promotion. Luckily, Charters’ beer garden was big enough to hold everyone who came down, football fans or not, and the drinks slipped down very easily indeed while listening to one of the many bands that played live over the weekend. For everyone that didn’t fancy a pint of Real Ale, there was an incredibly wide selection of special Belgian beers, continental beers, wines, whiskeys and traditional ciders – some of which where pretty lethal! There really was no reason to leave at all, as East, the Thai restaurant above Charters was serving delicious food to the garden as well as the fab barbeque that was going all weekend – if you weren’t hungry before you would’ve been after five minutes of smelling the food and our Paparazzi team tucked in!

in the act? Our Paparazzi man, Pep Cipriano likes a good party and dropped into the City Club recently to join the guys and girls from Marshall motor group as Wesley Wilkinson (aka Mr T), Business Manager for Marshall Jaguar and friend James Hallatt celebrated their 30th birthdays with a fancy dress bash. The Atrium was packed to the rafters with party goers celebrating big style. As you can see there were some fab costumes (a bottle of bubbly went to Mel B for best outfit) but everyone had made a real effort with costumes ranging from Rocky Balboa and Don King to Amy Winehouse and Rodney Trotter. The party was in full swing and the disco spilled out into the conservatory beer garden. Pep reported back that these were the best fancy dress costumes he’d ever seen – everyone was up for a laugh, even birthday boy Wesley’s parents! His dad had dressed up as Henry VIII. Meanwhile ESP photographer Emma Bothamley had taken our Face of ESP Kerry Bates out with the Peterborough Lambretta and Vespa Scooter Club who were holding a bash at The Cherry Tree on Oundle Road and an evening do at The Fleet. There were some amazing machines on display and these guys and girls certainly know how to enjoy themselves. It’s a great club and if you fancy getting involved just take a look at www.plvsc.co.uk. There are around sixty members now and they regularly meet up at The Cherry Tree and tell us landlady and landlord, Ann and Jess, always look after them superbly. Thanks for giving our girls some two wheel action guys! See you next time.

ESPCELEBS Sheryl Crow has transformed from hippy rock chick with a guitar to sophisticated singer song writer racking up the hits. Now she’s back with ‘Detours’… All she wanted to do was ‘have some fun’ as her first single shouted, but in recent years Sheryl Crow has been on an emotional rollercoaster. After splitting with champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, battling breast cancer and now adopting a child, Sheryl is back to prove she’s lost none of her song writing and performing vigour. The multi-Grammy award-winning artist has already sold over 30 million albums worldwide but now has one of her busiest summers ahead appearing at ‘Hard Rock Calling 2008’ in Hyde Park on June 28 with Eric Clapton and John Mayer before heading off on a huge US tour with James Blunt. The 45 year-old star is certainly back in the limelight once again for all the right reasons and has been clocking up the TV appearances on BBC Breakfast, Paul O’Grady and This Morning amongst others. Talking about her UK appearance in Hyde Park Sheryl told This Morning - "I'm really excited, John will play first, then I'll play before Eric. I'll be playing all the old songs, with a few new ones. The fans have really reacted well to this album, so it'll be nice to perform them live." The Missouri born lass has just released her latest single 'Now That You're Gone' which is the second track to be taken from her sixth album, 'Detours'. “This is the most honest record I’ve ever made,” she says. “It’s about being forced to wake up.” Lyrically the album is the most politically and personally outspoken record of her career, addressing the current state of the world from different perspectives as well as some of the personal challenges she’s faced over the last few years.
In 2002 she was back again full throttle with ‘C’mon,C’mon’, which featured the summertime smash ‘Soak up the Sun’. In late 2003, Sheryl released her first greatest hits album, ‘The Very Best of Sheryl Crow’ and then after an extensive international tour, Sheryl took a well-deserved rest, from which came 2005’s poignant ‘Wildflower’. In early 2006, Sheryl was diagnosed with Stage One breast cancer. The event changed her life, and her recovery’s reinforced her zest to live life to the full. There’s no doubt she continues to be an inspiration to women and cancer survivors everywhere. Speaking to BBC News she says it had a profound influence on everything – “My life really shifted in a huge way when I was diagnosed, but even more so in conjunction with having a very public split. “All that culminating at the same time really required that I revisit who I had become. “I think that's what these detours in our lives do. They take us on journeys that somehow lead us far away from what our original path was, or who we set out to be, and dictate that we come back and remember who we are. Sheryl’s moved from LA to Nashville to raise her adopted son, Wyatt Steven Crow, of who she says - "I was working on my new record when Wyatt was just three weeks old. He had such an influence on me - I could love something freely for the first time.” Now with the release of her sixth studio album ‘Detours’ there’s no stopping her. www.sherylcrow.com
Since exploding onto the global stage in 1993 with the multi-platinum ‘Tuesday Night Music Club’ album, the one-time music teacher and studio vocalist from Kennett, Missouri has forged an amazing career. Each new album was followed immediately by tours and the hits kept coming with tracks like ‘If It Makes You Happy’ and ‘My Favorite Mistake’ earning her legions of new fans.

FOODREVIEWS ROYAL FUSION
Main Street, Uffington, Stamford Tel. 01780 766888 After driving past this place for nearly a year saying “we’ll have to try it in there” we finally managed to get booked in at Royal Fusion for my birthday treat. The restaurant itself has a modern feel to it but is also warm and welcoming. The staff are fantastic and cater for all your needs without any fuss - this must be down to Deep Sengupta the restaurant manager. The restaurant is owned by Mr Hussain who runs the successful Royal Spice in Peterborough city centre and his idea of mixing Thai and Indian together under one roof has made a big impact on this small village. For a starter we opted for Crispy Aromatic Duck (for three people) along with poppadoms, and the duck was cooked to perfection. The main meal was a mixture of Red and Green Thai Chicken Curries with Thai Noodles and Thai Coconut Rice for myself and hubby, but our son opted for the Tandoori Mixed Grill, this was all served with Naan bread too and a nice cold Indian beer to wash it all down. We were all so full after that we said no to a sweet but Deep talked us into sharing one of their sweet dishes which is home made on the premises called Gulab Jamun - it was fantastic and you must try if you go there. All this was less than £60 which we thought was good value for three people. They also have a lovely patio area which will be great for parties in the summer and also Deep’s BBQ’s he was telling us about. Tuesday evening there is a special Spice Night with three courses for just £10.95. I was advised that it’s best to book for that one as they get very busy while Sundays are buffet style, which I for one can’t wait to go back and try. Shirley Frost
THE ANCHOR INN Norfolk Street, Wimblington Tel: 01354 742435
I had heard about the Anchor Inn over at Wimblington from a friend who said -“Although it’s a bit of a trek it’s well worth it.” So with the car fuelled up we set off to find this alleged culinary delight in the sticks and lo and behold 40 minutes later we were there! Tucked away on Norfolk Street this unassuming pub served up what I described on the night as one of the best meals I’d ever had. Check out Curried Parsnip Veloute, lemon curd foam and deep fried and flavoured potato skins, none of which were ordered by us but were in between course fresheners to liven the mouth! My partner Tracy chose Seared Tuna for starters which was cooked to perfection and laced with mustard foam. I chose to skip the starter, wisely as it turned out! For mains I chose Surf and Turf, Tracy opted for the Crab Linguine.

www.esp3.net ( June ) w w w.
The Surf and Turf was fillet steak and smoked oysters, the taste can only be described as outrageous. The fillet was steeped for three days in a Japanese marinade, cooked to perfection and electrified the taste buds on contact, the oysters were hickory flavoured and smooth as you like. The crab was plentiful, fresh as morning dew and the linguine cooked just right, neither of which were over seasoned but just enough to taste a delicate hint of tarragon. It’s not often you taste food this good. For dessert I chose white chocolate and cardamom mousse, on the surface a strange brew but its light fluffy substance made the flavours work. Tracy tried the home made ice cream, three flavours is the norm, she chose Vanilla, Wimblington honey and Snickers. I tasted them… they were the best… ever! The service was chilled and the restaurant has a relaxed feel to it, with the music pleasing, audible but not deafening. In terms of price, it’s not pub grub prices, but this is not pub grub, £50-60 should see you treat someone special to a three course meal with a couple of drinks, if you want to impress it’s £50 well spent! I could have used a dozen more adjectives to eulogise about this place but the best recommendation I can give is that we went back again three days later to do it all again, it is that good. My thanks to chefs John McGuinn, Peter Petrou and waitress Vicki for an experience that was worth repeating and repeating immediately.

SPACE TO GO WILD IN THE COUNTRY… on g a w s t r o 0 Sp Volvo V5
As soon as there’s the vaguest hint of summer it just makes you want to break free of the office and hit the open road, so this month I decided to see if the Volvo V50 Sportswagon was truly the outdoor type.
With its clean cut, modern look this estate car is beautifully finished, (it never looked that good when I had one I can hear my Grandad shout) and dispels all myths about what Volvos might once have been perceived as.

I had the diesel model which was incredibly quiet but also so quick and responsive to drive that I had a sudden urge to head out into the countryside to escape the city’s hustle and bustle.
The ‘R’Design V50 Sportswagon D starts at £20,995 on the road. It’s an amazing looking car and if you need a big family vehicle this is ideal. It has loads of space for everybody inside, so no dead legs for the passengers in the back. It also has folding centre armrests for the back seats with built in drinks holder and storage box which is good for keeping the kids crayons and toys in. There’s also the option of built in booster seats so no unsightly booster pads. Space is definitely the key word here - the boot space is big and the rear seats fold down easily too.
dontscrapthetap . c o m
There are loads of extras you can get for this car too, not just fancy wheels and leather seats but built in sat nav, sport textile mats, sun blinds, sunglasses holder, net pocket and load– securing net, electric cooler box and grocery bag holder. On the outside there’s more with rain sensor windscreen wipers, roof box, bike holders, bike lift, ski/snowboard holder and detachable tow bar so you really can go wild in the country!
Thanks to Charles and his team at Marshall Volvo in Peterborough for the loan of the car. Go on, give them a ring and take one for a test drive, you don’t know what you’re missing! Shirley Frost

Let’s buy it for the boys! Westgate Arcade stores into the place to go for the latest trendy gear for guys and specialises in some great brand names like Diesel, G Star, Replay, Lyle & Scott, Lacoste and Penguin – names you won’t find elsewhere in town. His team, including Aaron who helped Kerry with her retail therapy session, are all trained up by Diesel so know their stuff.
As the Face of ESP Kerry Bates has already enjoyed plenty of pampering and shopathons, but with her prize from Clues and C2 it was an opportunity to treat the men in her life! The two Peterborough stores gave her a shopping spree which meant Kerry could get all generous and share her new status as a local celeb to make sure her fellas looked equally fab. Kerry decided to keep this one in the family – “I treated my brother to most of this prize as I am so kind! He loved both shops and just wanted everything! “The guys at Clues and C2 were really helpful too and gave us lots of advice on what my brother should go for. I also bought my brother-in-law a few bits and pieces so I was a very popular girlie! “Everything is very trendy, especially those hats I was wearing in C2... I love those, it made me feel like Victoria Beckham!”
If you want to look a sharp dressed man though, C2 is also the place to go for Oswald Boatang suits and handmade Jeffery West shoes – very slick indeed. Again the guys are trained in making sure you get just the right fit to look the smoothest man about town. Talking of which, the guys have just put their name to Pep’s column so he’ll soon be looking the dogs danglies too! Kev told ESP that he and the guys aren’t your usual intimidating designer shop staff - “We like to think our service here is second to none. Everyone in both stores is fully trained so you get good honest advice – we will tell you if it doesn’t suit you rather than push for the sale. Our clothes are the names the High Street copies, but are far better quality and last.”

At the entrance to Westgate Arcade is Clues
which a few years back was touted by FHM as one of the best independent stores in the country. Clues sits a little more on the casual side compared to C2 and specialises in more street fashion like distinctive T-shirts. Dan helped Kerry choose from great brands like Firetrap, Super Dry, Gio Goi and Ringspun. Clues head honcho Gary told us - “People are coming back to the independent stores because of the service – that’s why we get repeat business here. At the moment Gio Goi is the hot name and is flying off the shelves.” Yep, much of it into several carrier bags on our Kerry’s arm. We reckon your brother owes you Kerry – big time! Clues and C2 are open from 9.30am to 5.30pm, open late on Thursdays until 8pm and Sundays 11am – 4pm so drop by and get yourself kitted out guys with some seriously gorgeous clobber!

Trizzacks returns to The Park this month with a launch party for MC Rowdie’s brand new video for his double A side single ‘Missing You/Hard Work’ on June 13. This night is your chance to be one of the first to see his video before it hits the music channels this summer. TIPPA IRIE
The Park has another big star playing this month, as they host Tippa Irie’s Official Birthday Party on June 7. He’s a reggae legend in his own right, but his biggest success was a collaboration with Black Eyed Pea’s on the track ‘Hey Mama,’ which earned him a Grammy nomination. They’re not telling us exactly how old he’s going to be, but he’s been making good music for over 20 years - his first Top 40 hit was in 1986 with ‘Hello Darling.’ Tippa Irie spends most his time now in the US
rather than in Brixton, so make sure you catch on this quick trip over here. Tel: 01733 310383.

Tony Stephens has the ESP guide to the hot new releases…
THE INCREDIBLE HULK Out: Jun 13
This is a ‘sort of’ sequel to the Ang Lee/Eric Bana Hulk, but also a reboot for the franchise aiming to stick closer to the comic books and generally please the fans more. Edward Norton takes over as Bruce Banner, and a new CGI model takes over as the big angry green thing. Banner is being chased by the United States army, which is stressful enough, but then Tim Roth has a familiar accident involving gamma rays and swells into the Abomination, a bigger and scarier monster that wants revenge. It’s enough to drive Banner up the wall, and we love it when he’s angry.
THE HAPPENING Out: Jun 13
M. Night Shyamalan brings us another thriller that like his excellent film Signs focuses on a family unit, this time headed up by Mark Wahlberg. The threat they come under sounds even grimmer than alien invasion, and crazier too; plants and trees are releasing neurotoxins that drive people to commit suicide. Nice. Being a Shyamalan movie there’ll probably be a twist to look forward to, though the plot sounds twisted enough already.
WANTED Out: Jun 27
Another comic book movie, with another skinny, geeky character that gains superhuman abilities. James McAvoy stars as Wesley Gibson, a guy whose father was a top assassin, though one that ultimately got murdered himself. But rather than getting out there to seek revenge or dish out justice, he happily (or unhappily) sits in his work cubicle, day in, day out. Until Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie muscle their way into his life to help him follow in his father’s footsteps and do cool stuff like fire bullets with impossible skill and influence, so he can shoot round corners!
SEX AND THE CITY OUT NOW
Would you believe it was ten years ago now that television audiences first met Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), a New York newspaper columnist and an authority on fashion (particularly shoes) who shared her experiences of love and her many failed relationships. And let’s not forget her best friends whom she’d join in gossiping and openly discussing their sex lives over coffee. Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is a self proclaimed ‘try-sexual’ (she’ll try anything once) who doesn’t form long term relationships at all, demanding that her sexual partners leave an hour after she climaxes. Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is her opposite; far more conservative and a romantic. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is a tougher, more career driven character and cynical about love and relationships. Yet she was the first to settle down, get married and give birth to a child. By the time the show ended the rest had more or less settled down too; Carrie’s on/off lover Mr. Big finally decided to stick with her, and even Samantha is able to stand by a man for more than five minutes. Now the movie is here, Carrie’s audience can catch up with her and her friends. All the makings of a classic romcom are here too; there’s a wedding, a baby on the way, plus the usual struggles with love and inspiration for a massive shopping trip for fashion lovers everywhere.

DVD SCENE
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN Out: Jun 2 In the Coen Brothers highly praised and award-winning adaptation of the novel, a three way cat-and-mouse chase across West Texas ensues after a drug deal goes wrong. Josh Brolin is a Vietnam veteran that goes out hunting, only to find the corpses of Mexican drug dealers, along with a satchel containing two million dollars. A hitman played by Javier Bardem (who won an Oscar for his work) is soon after the money, but this hunter too is being hunted by the sheriff Tommy Lee Jones.
JUNO
You’re more than just a number to
us!
Out: Jun 9 Juno, a sixteen year-old American girl (played by Ellen Page) discovers she has become pregnant by her best friend Paulie (Michael Cera). Her initial reaction is to have an abortion, but at the last minute decides to keep the baby, at least to have it adopted. She searches for suitable parents that she befriends, and for the remainder of the pregnancy tries to stick to the plan whilst walking down a rocky road of emotion.
RAMBO
Out: Jun 23 A civil war lasting 60 years rages on at the Thailand / Burma border, and John Rambo makes his retirement home nearby because it’s a good fishing spot, as you do. When a group of missionaries seek his help to navigate them through landmines, he reluctantly agrees. Two weeks later he is told that they are being held captive in a Burmese army camp. Cue Rambo going absolutely…Rambo. Like Rocky Balboa, this is a dignified return for an iconic 80’s character, though with a lot more blood ‘n’ guts flying around.
GAME ON SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL
(Wii) Out: Jun 27 What is Smash Bros.? An example: Mario kicks Pikachu so hard he flies off the screen, before he’s pounded into the ground by Donkey Kong’s massive fists. Out of the blue DK’s smacked by a baseball bat lobbed by Princess Zelda. Jumping back into the fray, Pikachu electrocutes the lot of ‘em. Mayhem. Throw in tons more Nintendo characters, modes for 1-4 players, online or offline, masses of stuff to collect and you’ve just about scratched the surface.
BATTLEFIELD: BAD COMPANY
(360/PS3) Out: Jun 27 Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. Not in Bad Company. Hiding out alone in a tower with a sniper rifle? Your enemies can blow holes in the building to expose you or to storm in. Or they could just order an air strike and bring the roof crashing down. But why stay in one spot anyway. Get out there and enjoy the expansive, interactive scenery, before people blow chunks out of it. There’s a war on, son! Scared? Well, you could always make your own crater and go back to hiding in it. (Release dates are subject to change.)

Loo roll and wellies at the ready – it’s festival season! Andy Slater has a round-up of some of the best local fields to be seen in this summer…
It’s that time of year again… you know when normally quite sane people don stupid hats, wellies and, in particular middle aged solicitors, parade around muddy fields in unfashionably loud shirts. You got it… it’s festival time! As I write I have done three small events - nothing major yet but just getting into the swing of things and sorting the bus out ready for the bigger festies that lay ahead. That doesn’t mean that I have not witnessed rank stupidity in a major way. Get this…I watched a bloke maybe 20 years-old attach his airbed to his exhaust pipe on his car to pump it up… now, is it me but if you are gonna top yourself at a gig that’s a fair bet. Fill your bed up with poisonous carbon monoxide and zip your self up in a tent with it for the night, as all air beds deflate slowly, by the morning you’re either dead or have a massive headache and nausea. Mind you he was wearing a Burberry cap… no great loss there then! You’ll find details of local music fests like the Stamford Riverside Festival on July 5, the Bourne Festival June 6, 7 and 8, City Roots August 2 and 3 and Randall Rootz August 15,16 and 17 elsewhere in the mag, so which larger festivals do I reckon will be worth a punt this year? Well apart from the obvious Glastonbury, Download, Reading, and V there are three fairly close to home that are worth going to. First up on June 13 -15 it’s The Big

Session set in the beautiful grounds of Leicester’s De Montfort Hall. The festival which prides itself on being one of the most environmentally friendly has a real eclectic line up this year and one of my favourite rebels, Steve Earle, is headlining. Steve is one of those characters that you should see. A protest song writer, an exprisoner, a campaigner - he ain’t no run-of-the-mill guy. You can also catch the Oyster Band, Seth Lakeman, The Blockheads, Cara Dillon, and Bellowhead and with camping all weekend and dozens of other bands at a paltry £65 for the weekend it’s a right old bargain too, check out www.bigsessionfestival.com for more info and to book. Staying in Leicester and at The De Montfort Hall and Gardens, check out their Summer Sundae gig on August 8-10 (www.summersundae.com) where such luminaries as Supergrass, Macy Gray, The Coral, Henry Rollins, Cold War Kids and Jose Gonzalez tip up. You can add to that another fistful of bands, again a stunning location and with weekend tix at £95 it’s cheaper than most other festies of this magnitude. The other great thing is that if it is hissing it down you can get indoors to the main arena with this one… great idea. Last year my personal favourite was The Rhythm Festival this side of Bedford at the Twinwood Arena and it’s back on August 29 - 31. It’s run by the very affable Jim Driver, a great guy who despite the stress and worries always has a joke and a laugh
dontscrapthetap . c o m
ready, and if you’re looking for a bit more of a sophisticated festy this should be your bag. It has a large decking area with picnic tables and parasols, woodland walks between stages, spotlessly clean loos and showers and uber friendly and helpful staff. As always this festival is primarily about the occasion but check out the bands - Big Star, The Saw Doctors, Jefferson Starship, Steve Cropper and The Animals, Michelle Shocked, Richie Havens, The Zombies, Jah Wobble, The Pretty Things, Delroy Williams and… Chas and Dave but to name a few, the list seems almost endless. You can also wallow in the atmosphere at The Twinwood Arena too. If memory serves it’s where Glen Miller was flying to when he disappeared and the whole place has a nostalgic wartime feel to it - kinda strange but it works. Tickets for the festival are a good price too, again around £90. Great bands, great place, great people… do it! Head for www.rhythmfestival.net for all the info. Finally, my top tips for surviving any festy… Sunscreen - even if it doesn’t seem that sunny (ain’t that right Alf?) slap it on. Hat - another life saver in the sun. Don’t accept drinks off strange people… that’s my job! Don’t get unconscious as a couple, one of you needs to find the way back to the tent. Oh… and don’t pump your airbed up with exhaust fumes…unless you are a chav of course. Enjoy the summer! Andy Slater

NEW TRACKS FROM ANGRYMAN
The new four-piece line-up of Angryman have been recording their first tracks together and are working on the band’s third studio album. With Julian Stone on drums/percussion and Chris Allen on electric bass, the band have added a new dimension to their progressive sounds and are really excited about the new recordings. Lead guitarist, Steve Bean told ESP - “The newcomers to the band have given us a real impetus to gig more than ever and we’re really excited about the musical direction we’re taking.” If you want to hear a preview of the new tracks (Dream As Children; and Distant Shore) and find out where you can see Angryman, log onto their website or MySpace pages for details and keep an eye on the ESP Gig Guide each month. I’ve had a sneak preview and can’t wait for the album! www.myspace.com/angrymanband www.angryman.info

CHILDREN OF THE REVOLUTION LIVE REVIEW
We recently went down to The Cross Keys on Oundle Road to check out a local band called Children of the Revolution. The band formed when the singer Rob gave guitarist Mike a copy of Guns ‘n’ Roses ‘Appetite for Destruction’ at school over six years ago and they’ve decided to try and become the busiest band in Peterborough. Their original drummer has left and gone to Mexico – but standing in is John who also drums with local heroes Acer and the new bass player Tom has ‘taken [them] up to the next level.’ All the guys are in other bands – Rob plays bass in Acer, the guitarist Michael is recording something ‘top

secret’ in Leeds and the bassist Tom has been working on an album in London, but the guys say they started Children of the Revolution because they just really love playing live. This enthusiasm was plain to see, with them in high spirits before their first set and lots of energy when they were playing. Songs from Jimi Hendrix, The Buzzcocks and Bruce Springsteen got an airing, as well as Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The singer’s voice was slightly better suited to the slower songs, but in all they were very talented musicians and certainly got the crowd going with their mix of classic Rock and Punk. In fact, during the second set, most of the
punters were on their feet dancing and singing along. Despite the drummer John being a bit like Otto from the Simpsons – he drives coaches and insists the passengers listen to his music to try and educate them – they’re a good band if you want a lively night in the pub, whatever your age. They play a wide mix of songs – all ones you know, but not ones you’ve heard covered a million times and you can tell the guys really love them. They’ve got gigs booked pretty much every weekend, so check our ESP Gig Guide and make sure you head out and see them! Liv Slater

Over thirty acts are booked this year, performing on the main Riverside Stage, the Marquee Stage where you’ll find indie, punk, metal and emo or the Acoustic Stage where you’ll find folk, blues and world music. There will also be a Buskers Stage, where you can play anything from a guitar to a bean can, if you turn up on the day and book yourself a slot. The beer tent run by Bourne Round Table will be back once again, this year it’ll be 200ft wide with an express-lane ‘Tinny Bar’ with 50% of takings going towards the festival’s costs and 50% to local charities. There’ll be a funfair and Arts and Crafts workshops to keep kids both big and small happy, as well as food stands offering treats from around the world and stalls selling all your festival essentials such as tie-dye T-shirts, friendship bracelets and badges. The organisers have asked people not to bring alcohol on site, like most major festivals, but unlike bigger festivals they’ve promised to keep their prices competitive and will be publishing a bar list on the website beforehand. They’re asking everyone who attends to donate at least £2 to the festival as they’ve had a little trouble with sponsors this year – an absolute bargain for the sheer amount going on! Meanhwile, Bourne Festival is back this year on June 6, 7 and 8, with a massive line-p of bands and beers. Organised by the Bourne Round Table, this three day weekend really does have something for everyone, with bands like The Houndogs, League of Mentalmen and Noasis taking care of the music. There’ll also be a funfair, face painting, inflatible golf and a human table football tournament. If all this sounds a bit too much like hard work, then you can always just flop on the grass at Well Head Park and enjoy a few of the 35+ real ales available from the likes of Batemans, Oakham Ales and Oldershaws. And the best part is, it’s only £3 for a ticket for the entire weekend! For more information, band programme and beer list visit www.bournefestival.com or call 07904 343514. Liv Slater

BANDPROFILE
Their management calls them ‘the best Rock ‘n’ Roll band in the UK’ – and we’re inclined to agree! Collars up boys and girls… it’s time to meet The Houndogs. Coming from the middle of nowhere in the Fens are The Houndogs, a local band who in around ten years have earned a reputation as one of the most exciting Rockabilly bands around. Just in case you’ve never seen them, the three brothers play fast fifties rock – influenced by the likes of The Stray Cats and early Elvis. In fact, The Houndogs supported Lee Rocker from The Stray Cats when he played Peterborough a few years ago, and Ian (who plays double-bass) told ESP – “That was one of our best gigs, as Lee Rocker is one of my idols.” The band tried to get a support slot for The Stray Cats tour in October, but sadly lost out to the one and only Vince Ray! Not that this bothers them, as they’re definitely keeping busy with bookings as far as 2010! They’ve already clocked up hundreds of top performances including the Peterborough Beer Festival and travel the country gigging. As well as this, one of their songs ‘Rock My Life’ is being used in a new independent film by Stamford based director Martin Tempest called ‘Stingers Rule’ which will be shown at Showcase Cinema, Peterborough this month.

fish were such amazing colours and patterns; so were the reefs,” although he did admit it didn’t do his quiff any favours!
They’ve got a brand-new EP out called Feel The Heat , which was recorded live at the Noel Arms, Whitwell at Ian’s birthday party. The band originally intended to just record a promo DVD (which they’re still releasing) but realised that the songs sounded really good! Check out their Myspace at www.houndogs.net to listen to a preview; the new EP really captures the energy of their live show. They’ve become known for onstage stunts such as David the drummer setting his cymbals alight, and Ian standing on his double bass. They’ve not given themselves any serious injuries so far, although as Ian said – “It’s controlled chaos, really. I’ve broken my double bass twice so far, and we’ve set light to a few carpets, although we’ve never had a fire engine turn up or anything! Maybe we should try and do that this year...”
Robert, the singer, also recently got married in the Chapel in the Woods, on the grounds of Graceland, Memphis – but didn’t tell his brothers about it until after they’d booked their holiday!
It’s not all work for the boys though, when we spoke to Ian he’d just returned from a snorkeling trip in Egypt - “It was brilliant, all the

The Houndogs will be playing loads of gigs over the summer, make sure you check them out in ESP’s Gig Guide. This month they’ll be at The Periwig in Stamford on June 8, the Bourne Festival on June 6 (tickets £3 from 07904 343514) and playing at Holbeach Football Club on June 12, where there’ll be jive lessons, a buffet and a DJ as well as a set from them. POSH W ESP was there as the city celebrated Posh’s promotion with an open top bus tour around the city and there was no shortage of fans to support them… It was a fantastic day but ever since the celebrations at Posh and the tour of the city, fans have remained eager to sign up their support. Phil Adlam from the club told ESP – “Peterborough United Football Club would like to thank all supporters who’ve purchased a season ticket for the 2008-2009 Coca-Cola League One campaign. Over 3,000 supporters have snapped up season tickets, which is more than any other season, showing the support Darren Ferguson and his squad have for the forthcoming campaign.” If you haven’t got yours yet, there’s still time to take advantage of the discount period with the Box Office open from 9am until 5pm, Monday-Fridays. Meanwhile, the club has confirmed the home pre-season schedule with Cambridge United arriving at London Road on July 16, a Liverpool X1 will provide Posh with opposition three days later while West Ham United will be bringing their first team on Tuesday July 29. The final pre-season home fixture will be against Premier League Champions Manchester United on Monday August 4. Ticket details for these four games will be announced on www.theposh.com in due course. Lastly, a quick thank you to the guys and girls at Starbucks coffee shop and Waterstones on Bridge Street for giving our photographer Emma some great vantage points for photos!

MARSHALL DODGE SPONSORS OF THE PETERBOROUGH SAXONS The Peterborough Saxons are sponsored by:
MEET THE SAXONS Over the past few months, we've been finding out more about the Peterborough Saxons American Football team and this month we highlight some of the players to keep your eye on during the 2008 season - as you can see, they come in all shapes and sizes and from all kinds of backgrounds. General Manager Mark Kerr told ESP - "It doesn’t matter how big or small, fast or slow, young or old, there’s a spot for everyone on our football team and if playing isn't for you, there's a ton of jobs behind the scenes you can help with. It's never too late to join the Saxon family so why not get in touch?" In the meantime, The Saxons have crunch home games against the Cambridge Cats on Sunday June 8, Essex Spartans on Sunday June 15 and the Watford Cheetahs on Sunday June 22 so if you like your sport fast, furious and physical, then Stanground College is the place to be - The Saxons are keen for your support so the more people and noise the better! Player Dale Hawes (pictured) is excited about the games ahead and hopes to see new fans come to support them – “We're the biggest up and coming team in Peterborough, so jump on the bandwagon because we're headed for the 2008 Britbowl!” For more information and all the latest Saxons news, check the guys out online at www.thesaxons.co.uk
