Events in Mark and Mathew Mark 5:21-43 Jesus Raises a Dead Girl When Jesus moved away from his hometown, Capernaum, to the other side of the lake, he was surrounded by a big crowd. The scripture indicates that one of the Synagogue leaders, Jairus went unto him knelt on his feet and pleaded, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live” (Mark 5:23). Jesus then followed Jairus, but a large crowd pressed on him; a woman touched his body and was healed. The woman (Jairus’s daughter) had suffered from hemorrhage for over 12 years and had never been cured. Jesus then asked who had touched him, and noticed it was the woman; she came unto him and fell at his feet; but he told her she was healed because of her faith. In this event, role of Jesus was to heal the sick and spread the word of God. He followed Jairus to go heal his daughter, and as soon as she touched her, he told her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering” (Mark 5:34). Through his miracle, the people learnt about God’s existence even though they doubted the powers that Jesus had claiming that it is only God who can heal. In the event, the woman healed by Jesus has a key role; she proves the significance of faith. Because she believed in the power of God through Jesus Christ, her sins were forgiven. One of the lessons learnt about discipleship is that one must be a believer just like Jairus and the daughter. All disciples should also be ready to follow Jesus
