Introduction to COP3 Lecture program: Be individual in this project The project is mine and the expectation is that we are becoming he expert. Tutors are there for advice. Successful projects enervate stuff as well as communicate wether I understand if something is working. Bringing opinions to statements as well as analysis of current work and practical work. Project should be something I feel I should be getting something out of. It should be feeding into my EP & PP modules. It had to be relevant. A body of research that has a written and practical outcome. Written and preparation skills should be professional and at a higher graduate level Come from an informed point of view. Reference research continuously. What do I want to say and why?

Organisation is key to success in this module. Make this he priority. Consistency in engagement with research and corporal investigation. How you apply theory to my practice is up to me.

5000 words EXCLUDING QUOTES it’s all about core language and communication. The quality of what is written. Bring opinions beliefs together with facts to build and show my understanding. Fact: objective Opinion: subjective Formalise curiosity. What am I writing about? What am I making? Should be about a subject I know a bit about or want to know more about. Should be focusing down on a subject, theme, practice. “Colour as a visual language”

What am I trying to prove? Blog: what do I want to know? What do I need to know? The relevance and usefulness of What I’m finding out This research project is not about finding something new. Take on source material and research from a variety of places and respond to it unique to me.

Agree with certain theories and disagree with others - and explain why. This is critical. Generate meaning from evidence: interpretation As you develop your project - opinions will change. This is part of discovery. Create experiences I can evaluate.

Blog should be a document which organises all the different things I’m doing. Document the work and bring it all together. Does my research add up to my other research? Does it contradict it? Why? Do I agree?

New research: Is it interesting? Now is it relevant to the direction my research project is taking? Don’t just open up and open up a subject as you will be preludes by the amount of information. I need to be on point and focus it down in order to complete this module. There is a point where I need to stop researching. To Do Focus on colour and identity and have a look through my books just looking at this .DONT NEED TO READ ALL OF BOOKS - be specific

This is the time to talk about the struggles. It’s not about what I haven’t done - it’s about getting the support I need to move forward. Any issues with writing essays or structure or where to take the project needs to be discussed. Tutorial 3 - end of research Tutorial 4 - is solidifying ideas and moving forward / resolutions

decisions on what I’m going to say / how I’m going to say it What case studies Images Quotes

Use these tutorials to print progress to the tutors - I feel good about this but I need help with that. Get stuff up on blog daily because the tutors need this for the sessions. Bring clear work and clear questions to receive clear feedback.

Dissertation structure overview Chapter 1: intro (400 words) Write a quick intro - my written piece is about this and this and this. It interest me because of this and I’m going to respond to this practically like this. Telling the reader what to expect. Like a prologue. What point of view am I writing and analysing this from? Should be written last (easier to write after essay is done) Main body q: (chapter 2) 10 keys quotes 5 or 6 practical work or applied theory In this im going to show you that I understand what this is about and I’m using these clear examples to show you I know it. 5-6 quote and theories 1 or 2 that I want to contrast and compare Do not write a history of my subject. Do you understand all the different elements of your subject. What’s useful and what do they prove. What relevance has this to my practice? Have a mini conclusion Chapter 3 Analysis of practitioners, works. Relate previous theories to these examples. I’ve looked at the theory and this is what I’ve been looking at and this is why it is relevant. Identify the key elements - visually analyse and deconstruct! Where does this previous chapter relate to what I’m talking about. Further contradictions & critical analysis. How does it relate to contemporary practice? Chapter 4 How theory practice and research relate to each other - synthesis Summarise and evaluate Synthesis Chapter 5 - conclusion No additional info - a summary of everything that has come before. Answer my initial essay question!

Your practical response could be driven by the content I’m finding out - the research underpinning my dissertation Could be process lead- could be that I identify a process that I want to investigate and find a format to deliver it practically. It could be product lead - I want to make this (a book, prints, etc)

Research project Examples

Practical could form the solutions to the problems I discover in my research. Dissertation is the critical.

LECTURE SUMMARY Need a purpose What am I trying to achieve READ AND RESEARCH MORE. The more I research the more informed I become and the more ideas I get. What I’m proposing needs to be achievable.
