FOOD PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2022

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, yet it also attracts some of world’s most talented photographers, as was evident at the recent Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2022 Awards. The event, one of the most highly anticipated on the international photography scene, seeks to highlight the growing importance of gastronomic photography as an artistic discipline. The competition received thousands of entries from 60 different countries. View just a few of the winners below. COMPILED BY MARISA CUTILLAS

1 This year’s top prize went to a powerful image entitled Kebabiyana, by Indian photographer, Debdatta Chakraborty. Taken in an ordinary street in Srinagar that transforms into a culinary hub by night, it features traditional Wazwan kebabs emerging from a pit of smoke and spice.

2 Amanda Farnese Heath from the UK won the Pink Lady® Apple a Day prize. Her work, Autumnal Woodland Apple Party, depicts a tea party in a beautiful Scottish forest. 3 The Champagne Taittinger Food for Celebration award went to Traditional Skill by Chen Ying from China. Taken in a small farm, it shows a family getting ready to prepare traditional rice dumplings, which augur prosperity for the New Year.

4 Jon Wyand of the UK was the winner of the Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year award. His photo, Gathering Prunings on Corton Hill, displays winter pruning in the vineyards of Burgundy.

5 The Claire Aho Award for Women Photographers went to Marguerite Oelofse from Cape Town for At the Table. Taken in South Africa, the image is reminiscent of the postimpressionistic work of Matisse.

6 The Food at the Table award went to John Carey from the UK for his fiery work, Putting on the Ritz. The work displays The Ritz’s theatrical ‘Arts de la Table’ experience.

7 Weining Lin from China took home the Food for the Family prize for Traditional Food. The photograph depicts people in Western Hunan making tuansa – a local sweet made of glutinous rice that is given as a gift or offering.

8 Yuliy Vasilev won the Fujifilm Award for Innovation for Central Park, which is part of his ongoing project, Foodtopia. The latter features a miniature world made with food items.
