TOP CHEFS BRINGING RECIPES TO YOUR HOME VIA YOUTUBE!

If you are an avid Instagram user, then you are probably already hooked on the Insta recipes provided by Dani García, Eneko Atxa and David López, then you probably know that there are many cool chefs doing the same on YouTube.

COMPILED BY MARISA CUTILLAS

In this post we suggest just four that are cooking up a storm during COVID, opening readers up to a beautiful, mindful, rewarding hobby that makes a cook even happier than the people he or she is feeding.

JAMIE OLIVER

He’s the king of home-cooked, traditional meals that can be made in a flash. Jamie Oliver, arguably best known for his unique skill at Italian cuisine and his aim of bringing healthier food to UK schools, has a simple yet powerful motto during this crisis: ‘Keep Cooking & Carry On’.

He averages around a recipe a week and has made the following treats so far: homemade quesadillas, chocolate cake, minestrone soup, and a scrumptious harissa chicken tray-bake. Kids can tune in to his son Buddy. Oliver’s recipes, which include pancakes, a simple steak sandwich, and (believe it or not) instructions on how to fillet a fish! GORDON RAMSAY

When watching Gordon Ramsay doing his thing, it is impossible to feel sorry for yourself or unmotivated to make a cracking meal. He is one of the most enigmatic people I have watched onscreen in my lifetime – the perfect blend of talent, wit, and nerve – impossible to take your eyes off. During the lockdown, he has been posting frequent recipes – sometimes as many as four a week, made at home and often featuring his family in the background. He also has pre-recorded vids with celebrities like Ronda Rousey, always good for a laugh. Check out this recipe on how to make a stir fry at home.

EMMY MADE IN JAPAN

I love Emmy, a home chef who may not be as well-known as Ramsay and Oliver in ‘the real world’, but who is a huge hit on YouTube, with a 1.88M-strong following. It is hard to describe this channel but the best words I can think of are ‘visually beautiful’. She makes really pretty desserts such as soufflé pancakes, ice-cream that looks like fried chicken, mochi brownies and many more recipes that incorporate Asian influences. If you’re interested in Emmy’s channel, please watch the viral vid of the month – the recipe for Dalgona coffee. This quick, cheap recipe is just amazing. With two ingredients plus a dash of water, you can make arguably the yummiest iced coffee ever.

GEMMA STAFFORD

I am convinced that deep down we all have a baker inside us and with the newly found time during the lockdown it’s screaming to come out. My social media is full of people showing off their talents and let’s face it, there is nothing more comforting than the scent of fresh bread in the morning.

Searching for puff pastry recipes, I came across this charming Irish lady and her Bigger Bolder Baking brand and found that she covers everything from cakes, cookies, breads, doughs, mug cakes and meals in the most daringly modern and quick ways. You can not only find colourful videos on frozen yoghurt, the best ever cinnamon rolls and the likes, but also an entire community of boldbakers just like me and you.

“It’s about taking risks in the kitchen and being confident that you can create the best results” -– says Gemma and I found she was right when my first ever pastry prepared in just 30 minutes came out all flaky and puffy from the oven. Her video doesn’t have close to a million views for nothing, it’s well worth a try!

CHEF JOHN

Food Wishes is the title of Chef John, who has a whopping 3.45M following. He is all-American but somehow very French at heart and indeed, most of his dishes are easy-to-prepare fusion delights that marry tradition and practicality. He self-records his content and, usually, all you see are his hands in action. He talks over the video, giving tips and making observations as the images go along. He also has an offbeat sense of humour that makes his show equally watchable for non-cooks in a household. Feast your eyes on this recipe for penang pork satay.
