THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA

If you love historical dramas with a dose of fantasy, then this series will be right up your street. The Plot Against America, based on the Philip Roth bestseller, imagines what would have happened if World War II had ended differently.

The story is told through the eyes of a humble Jewish family that watches the political rise of Charles Lindbergh – an aviator and xenophobic populist who persuades his country to embrace fascism. The series was created by David Simon and Ed Burns of The Wire and Generation Kill – two highly acclaimed shows. Starring in The Plot Against America are John Turturro, Winona Ryder and Zoe Kazan.

THE NEW POPE

If you never thought a Pope could be quite so dashing, think again. This gem stars John Malkovich and Jude Law, no less, so it will make for some drool-friendly viewing (who’s bringing the popcorn and Coke?). The New Pope is a follow up to The Young Pope by Oscar-winner Paolo Sorrentino. It delves deep into the inner workings of the Vatican, exploring the flaws and virtues that unite ‘holy men’ to the rest of humanity.

It picks up where the first series left off, with Pope Pius XIII (Jude Law) having recently fallen into a coma. While he is ill, the Secretary of State manages to place a charming, sophisticated new candidate in power – Sir John Brannox (John Malkovich), who will soon be known as Pope John Paul III. Sorentino himself wrote the series alongside Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises. The series also stars Silvio Orlando, Javier Cámara, Cécile de France, Ludivine Sagnier and Maurizio Lombardi.

THE UNDOING

From Emmy®, Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning director Susanne Bier and the Emmy®-winning creator of Big Little Lies, David E. Kelley comes The Undoing – a drama starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.

It tells the story of a couple who are living the good life until a violent death and a chain of terrible revelations change their lives forever. The series also stars the magnificent Donald Sutherland and talented American Horror Story whiz, Lily Rabe.

I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE

From highly renowned director and writer, Derek Cianfrance (Drive, Blue Valentine) comes I Know This Much is True – a drama about identical twin brothers, Dominick and Thomas. The series takes us through the different stages of the twins’ lives, beginning with the present (when they are middle-aged) and taking us to their childhood through flashbacks that explain their differences and tensions. Also starring Melissa Leo, Imogen Poots, and Archie Panjabi.

WE’RE HERE

Like The Undoing, this series doesn’t have a precise release date, but we do know it will be out during the spring season. This one is a comedy with plenty of punch. It covers the ins and outs of a one-night-only drag show participated in by small-town folk across the U.S.

“Drag is about confidence and self-expression,” says Nina Rosenstein of HBO. In each episode, well known drag queens Bob, Eureka O’Hara, and Shangela Laquifa Wadley will teach their new ‘drag daughters’ how to shake their tail feathers and get noticed nationwide!
