FOREVER HOME BY GRAHAM NORTON
Carol is in her forties, divorced with a grown-up child and working as a teacher in a small town in Ireland. When she begins a relationship with Declan, who is much older than she is, it feels like she has been given a second chance at love and happiness. Declan’s ex-wife, and mother to his two daughters, disappeared mysteriously years previously. As the relationship deepens, the town’s gossip about his past only serves to bring them closer together. However, when Declan becomes unwell, his daughters quickly move him into a nursing home and kick Carol out of the house, seemingly more concerned about their inheritance than their father’s health. Relationships are tested and secrets uncovered in Graham Norton’s tense and humorous new novel.
NEXT IN LINE BY JEFFREY ARCHER
London 1988. Royal fever has swept the nation and Britain has fallen in love with Princess Diana. The Royal Protection Command are tasked with keeping Diana safe. However, when doubts arise as to the Command’s ability to do the job, Detective William Warwick and his team are sent by Scotland Yard to investigate. It becomes apparent that an underground organisation has the security of the country, and the crown in particular, in its sights. But which target will be next in line. Archer has woven together a story with plots and subplots, crosses and double crosses, wrought with tension. Although Next in Line is the fifth book in the William Warwick series, it can be read independently.
THE ROMANTIC BY WILLIAM BOYD
Boyd is back with a beautiful and picturesque story of life and what it is to live. Told in the style of an autobiography, The Romantic is the story of Cashel Greville Ross born in December 1799. The novel follows the ups and downs of Ross’s life as the 19th Century unfolds. Through his eyes we experience the battle of Waterloo, become acquainted with Byron and Shelly and travel from Europe to Africa, Asia and the Americas. Although historical events feature throughout, the novel’s focus is on a single life, lived to the full, by a hopeless romantic. This novel is an immersive, atmospheric, emotional, and fun read.
A HEART FULL OF HEADSTONES BY IAN RANKIN
Rebus is long retired, and his health isn’t what it used to be. Unfortunately, retirement doesn’t really suit him, and he continues to try to help DI Siobhan Clarke catch criminals. When his old nemesis, Morris Cafferty, asks for his help in locating a former employee who is missing, presumed dead, his investigation appears to overlap with Siobhan Clarke’s case. A police officer from Tynecastle, who has been accused of domestic abuse and police misconduct, has gone missing and Clarke has been tasked with finding him. As the case unfolds, the lines between the good guys and the bad guys become blurred and the investigation threatens to expose senior police officers and Rebus himself. When Rebus finds himself on trial, Clarke is not entirely sure if she can trust him. An explosive, nail biting crime thriller. IT STARTS WITH US BY COLLEEN HOOVER
It Starts With Us is probably the most eagerly anticipated book of the year. The sequel picks up right where It Ends With Us left off. Atlas has just asked Lily out on a date and Lily has said yes! However, although she has been separated for almost two years and relations with her ex-husband Ryle are civil, Lily knows that Atlas is the last person Ryle would want in Lily’s or their daughter’s life. Alternating between Lily and Atlas’s perspectives, It Starts With Us follows their new budding relationship while shedding more light on Atlas’s past. An emotional rollercoaster of a novel, just as you would expect from Colleen Hoover. Keep your tissues at the ready! e
