one of the dutch photographer's facebook groups i am in, launched a summer project. take a series of at least 25 photo's during the summer months july and/or august, bundle them together in a small photo-book (pdf). show them in the group photo by photo and in the end together as a book. and because i am ‘prints and patterns’ all over lately, i thought i’ll mix up the two. (photography and the pattern thing) and that is how the theme of the book became clear: non-printed patterns. my intension was to find non-printed patterns with my camera as an inspiration source by designing new patterns. which i created in little sketches and impressions. very fun to do. i discovered a new way of looking at my surroundings to find the pattern treasures that would gave me material i could work with. and after that, it was a great way to practice my skills in sketching, in this case on my ipad. for this project i used the app.’sketch express’ for ipad. it has enough tools like brushes, layers, scaling, flipping, rotating, transparency, etc. and any color i would like to pick up. to show the source together with the invented pattern in the facebook group, i added the two in mini-collages. for the book, i used the separate photo and sketch on two facing pages. some additional information in text and that's it. so every day i finished one or two sketches of patterns out of the photo's i had taking earlier. in the end i came up with 31 photo's accompanied with their sketches. have fun flipping through the pages as i did creating them. esther
