or some holiday impressions

my days off of this summer were not different than those of others. we went to two different parts of the country and did the usual things like other people do on their holidays. visiting a city, visiting a church, some shops. taking a walk through the countryside, making some food outdoors, reading an interesting book, watching your beloved ones while they are busy doing something they really like to do. taking the opportunity to visit friends, having some fun in the swimming pool and arriving back home again. of course i do not leave for some days off, without my camera and in this book i gathered all the images that represent my impression of those ordinary holiday events. some weeks before my time off, i run into a copy of ‘expressive photography’ written by ‘the shutter sisters’ a very interesting book and more important, it’s all about my way of photography. some remarkable quotes caught my attention. i did saved them and while working on my SoFoBoMo book, i got the idea to use them in the book, adding some interesting information to the images. so this photobook is a bundle of all those things that challenge me. SoFoBoMo, the Shutter Sisters and all those simply things we run by, in life. enough writing, let me take you with me and show the impression of my Time Off.

SoFoBoMo is short for Solo Photo Book Month - a group event where a bunch of photographers all make solo photo books start to finish in 31 days

elements such as lines boundary repetition or reflection may separately or together serve to create a compelling composition

by reflecting on your own perception of a place you can use an unique perspective and it also affects the way you capture

a greater part of our lives takes messy place between the milestones

a simple composition without distracting elements along the edges is probably the easiest way to transfer stillness

maybe it depends on where we are at the moment we take the picture, in need to save

ourselves or to express ourselves

i work from awkwardness. by that i mean i don’t like to arrange things. if i stand in front of something, instead of arranging it, i arrange myself [diana arbus]

the eye of the photographer is trained to pay attention to those details which, although they are very small, transform a snapshot into a beloved remembering. these little details have the power to open the door to our most precious memories

capturing moments in nature is a exercise in opportunism - or spontaneity

animals often exhibit behavior that is characteristic of the kind. how can we capture the essence of an animal and still create an unique snapshot?

if you look closely, you see that everything in nature is perfectly composed. there is a delicate balance between the sophistication of form and the necessity of the function

why i always see pictures everywhere i look why i can not help to search for tiny points of light in the most ordinary moments

our tables are witnessing of our family rituals, our preferences, our passions, from almost everything which is related to us

details give direction to the story behind a photo

the expressions of nature require translation, they desire to be sought and ask for someone to explore, the stories of the immobile, non-speaking and faceless things

light and atmosphere go hand in hand and both can be effective telling tools to turn images into meaningful visual stories

stillness in photography revolves around a sense of calm and peace that often radiates out of details, issues and situations in our daily lives, without us even notice

details often tell more about someone than a traditional portrait

a camera is an ideal medium for self-expression, far beyond the simple recording of events

it are the small things that hold our attention simplest details create perfect stills little things of those which speak to our hearts and influence our images

the pursuit of light for a photographer feels somewhat like having a fickle and inconsistent relationship with a lover

with taking pictures we do ourselves a favor

photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. what you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything. [aaron siskind]

when a picture needs to be taken is usually an instinct, not a well considered decision

each image in nature is meaningful and therefore the emotional response a given whatever the subject

in portrait photography we sometimes forget that a portrait does not only consist out of a head. sometimes highlighting other aspects causes a more compelling story.

use detail to illustrate the essence of a place or space. your choice will affect the impression that the picture will make

the humblest details sometimes show how color and form and simplicity of a subject can deliver an inspiring and striking picture

details are the small pieces of a large puzzle

apparently insignificant details are often not proportionate to the emotions they can evoke

photographers notice things which other people escaped. they emphasize with their lens and make them the focal point of a story

just as we are not constantly aware of of our breathing or of our heart, we often not realize how important light is in our pictures

a useless background does not exist, regardless of where you are, there is always the sky above you
