Located in Kings Domain on St Kilda Road, Melbourne, it was first built as memorial to men and women who served in World War I, but now it’s memorial to all Australian that served in the war. Not only the building that is beautiful; it also has beautiful garden surrounding it and Melbourne skyline to boot! Make sure you go to the top of the shrine and see 360 view of the garden. This place is suitable for a walk and refreshment. You may also visit here to see the brief history of Australia’s involvement in both world wars, especially if you aren’t aren’ raised in Australia.
The idiom, “Let’s meet under the clock!” may refer to the Big Ben in London. In Melbourne, this idiom points to the row of clocks in Flinders Street Station that state the time of departure of each train. Meanwhile, “Meet you under the steps” refers to wide staircase underneath the clock. Flinders Street Station is the busiest station in Melbourne’s metropolitan network. It’s noted that Flinders Street Station gains 92,600 daily in weekdays in 2011/2012. It was completed in 1909 and is a cultural icon of Melbourne with its prominent dome arched entrance, tower and clocks.
Ballarat is a city in Victoria, Australia, located 105 km north of Melbourne. It’s the third most populous urban city in the state. It has unique buildings that can’t be seen often, especially for Indonesians. Just look at the picture! Beautiful, ain’t it? Feel the different atmosphere and ambience than what you usually feel in Indonesia! You may also find many subjects of interest here, such as Sovereign Hill, where you can feel the atmosphere of 19th century town; Botanic Garden, a garden full of old trees and statues; Lake Wendouree, where you can see a beautiful sunset; and so on.

Who doesn’t love penguins? These adorable birds that usually live in antartic are available for viewing in one of the attractions in Phillip Islands Nature Parks. Penguin Parade provides the best chance for people who want to see these exotic animals, especially if you are from tropic countries like Indonesia. It may be the place for you to have great time if you enjoy the beauty of nature. The best part is seeing the penguins arriving at the colony at dusk together. You must be careful, though, as the crowd of people may get overwhelming.
Tucked in to the foothills of the Yarra Ranges, Healesville Sanctuary offers a distinctly Australian wildlife experience and an introduction to the sights and sounds of the bush. Get close to over 200 species of Australian wildlife, including platypus, koalas, emus, Tasmanian devils, lyrebirds, wombats and eagles. Daily ‘Meet the Keeper’ sessions are an ideal way to learn from the experts who care for the animals. Catch the spectacular ‘Birds of Prey’ presentation everyday at 12pm & 2.30pm, starring the wedge-tailed eagle with its two-metre wingspan, and the peregrine falcon as it dives from the top of a gum tree.
Twelve Great Apostles here are the big rocks that potrude into the sky. It lays in the Great Ocean Road, Princetown VIC 3269, Australia. They are the central feature of the rugged Port Campbell National Park. The Twelve Apostles have been created by constant erosion of the limestone cliffs of the mainland that began 10–20 million years ago. Sunrise and sunset offer particularly impressive views as the Twelve Apostles change colour from dark and foreboding in shadow to brilliant sandy yellow under the sun. A great spot for a romantic date
Puffing Billy has been the Australia’s oldest surviving and famously preserved steam railway. The 25-kilometre journey takes visitors through thick forests and lush fern-filled gullies from Belgrave, only one hour east of Melbourne, to Emerald Lake Park and Gembrook. Puffing Billy also offers first-class travel and dining experiences, with lunch, Devonshire tea and evening meals available on the ‘Night Train’. You can catch the train at any of the stations along the way, or simply watch it leisurely go by from one of the station’s refreshment rooms.
When you hear the word ‘farm’, it is not as dirty as what you imagine it would be. Warrook Farm is a great place to travel. Like its name, Warrook Farm is an animal farm where you can do many things including milking the cow, watching sheep shearing, petting a gentle bull, etc.. Warrook Farm offers a great tour service to present the knowledge about these animals. It also provides good lunch. Overall, people like the service provided in Warrook Farm, either for the kids or the adults. This place is located halfway between Melbourne and Phillip Islands.

LEARN THE SLANG
GETTING AROUND WITH MELB CITY TRAM
Vegetables? Check. Fruits? Check. Beauty? Now that’s what is great about this place. Queen Victoria Market does not only sell daily necesities like fruits, veggies, meat, clothing, accessories, etc., but it also offers such magnificent beauty. Located in 513 Elizabeth St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia, Queen Victoria Market is said to have great services because of their concerns to customers. Just don’t visit this place in Monday and Wednesday, though, because it is their days off. Besides the Queen Victoria Market, you can try going to the mall in Woolsworth or Coles
Maybe for most foreigners who start to live in Melbourne, a tour around the city will be nice. You can take Melbourne City Circle Tram. Not only it is free, but it also goes around a number of places of interest in Melbourne. You can also get commentary to understand more on what you are seeing. The route is: Flinders St > Harbour Esplanade > Docklands Driver > La Trobe St > Victoria St > Nicholson St > Spring St > Flinders St
SHOPPING, SHOPPING, AND SHOPPING
You may also get the tram that goes the opposite way. TO get to the main campus of Monash University in CLayton, you can just simply get on the train! The living cost in Melbourne depends hugely on how you choose to spend your money. The nearest area to University of Melbourne is the Central Bussiness Direct For Monash University students, you will usually opt to stay in places near the hospital where you will be doing your research. CBD is however a little bit more pricey. If you want to rent a studio apartment, you will need to pay more (approx AUD1000). But if you share with roommates, the prices ranges from approx. AUD 800-1500. Not only do you get to share the price of your apartment, but you can also split the weekly grocery money which may cost around AUD20/person. Cooking is cheaper than dining oustide. And like what they all say, Sharing is caring.
LIVE WISELY, SPEND WISELY
BEWARE OF THE PMS WEATHER
So unfortunately, girls are not the only ones who experience PMS. You have to bear with the PMS weather in Melbourne too. Sorry boys. During summer, the temperature can go up to 44 C and it can decrease down to 0 C when winter comes. What’s even worse is during spring or fall. It can be really cold in the morning and suddenly the weather feels really hot. So it is recommended that you check the weather forecast often so that you can wear appropriat clothes and bring umbrella if necessary. Also, make sure you bring a strong umbrella or it will run with the wind
